Bless my poor little Chinese soul. Raised with soy sauce as my main condiment, I have close to zero spice tolerance and yet my adventurous palate often pursuades me to wander into South Asian cuisine. The first thing I asked the employee when I got here was, "can you make it not spicy?" to which he replied "yes, I can make no spicy". Delighted, my boyfriend and I ordered 2 biryanis ($7 each), one chicken and one mutton, as well as 5 mutton pattys ($2). As there wasn't much space to dine-in (only one table with 2 chairs) and the Bollywood music was playing fairly loudly, we took it home to eat. I took my first bite and I thought it was delicious. The portion size was MASSIVE and the biryani came with a large chunk of chicken (drumstick or breast) and a hard boiled egg. I took a second bite and then it began... I. WAS. SWEATING. THROUGH. EVERY. SINGLE. PORE. IN. MY. BODY. Including ones I never knew existed. Dear lord, bless my soul. I think I had a total of 5 spoonfuls before I called it quits. Granted the portion sizes were so so worth the price and the flavours were actually enjoyable before it made me profusely sweat, I would highly recommend this place to people who can handle their spice. Sadly, that is not me.

Wasn't in the menu but is a vegetarian dish.

Loaded saucy Biryani with a kick. Super tasty with loads of flavour. Wow... I will be bold and say this place is a real gem and for me is the best Biryani I've tasted. I had a real craving for Biryani and searched for something authentic than restaurants catered to standard palette. This place puts some sauce/gravy during a quick fry of the Biryani and boy is it good and wholesome tastiness! The Biryani is loaded with chicken pieces, a nice moist piece of tandoori chicken, a boiled egg and a sweet onion side (raita?). I can eat spicy and the fresh chilis gives this Biryani a serious kick. All for 7 bucks tax included. Why would you even try to cook Biryani at home if you live in the area? I also order a vegetarian dish shown in the picture. It's not on the menu and I did not understand the chef when inquired, but ordered it anyways since it was so different. The flavours and spices lead me to think it's more of a Sri Lankan dish, like the fried roti. This place will be our regular Biryani fix!

Summary: South Asian classics AND new dishes (chili chicken kothu) cooked right in front of you (although the kothu is precut), prices are fair, with portion sizes that will make you smile (kothu roti) or downright gasp and pinch yourself to ensure you're not dreaming (Biryani). Customizable spice levels. Contending for best kothu roti place in the area. What We Got: chicken biryani, mutton kothu roti, vegetarian kothu, vegetarian biryani, mutton patties, mutton rolls, chili chicken kothu roti What We Liked: ...pretty much all of it What We Don't: ... I didn't think the mutton rolls were special Trying Next: I don't know yet. MENU The triple TV menu does not have everything on the menu (ex. It was missing vegetarian biryani and chili chicken kothu) so you can generally just ask. Now that I think of it, I'm not sure they have non-chili chicken kothu, so maybe the chili chicken is the chicken. The MUTTON KOTHU ROTI is freakin' delicious, fresh, fair sized, and something I'd order again and again. Except... Except there's the biryani (spelled briyani here and for this review). Holy portion size! So most Briyani places give big portion sizes. This places give MASSIVELY ENORMOUS, INHUMAN meat briyani sizes. I ordered a kothu and a bryani. At most places I could finish both with some effort. I WAS NOT CLOSE HERE. That sucker walloped me (FULL DISCLOSURE: I told them I had a big appetite so I'm not sure if they didn't make it extra large just to mess with me. But basically, when I took it for take out, and I opened it, a lot of rice overflowed to the TOP lid... And the bottom part was still packed.) Chicken briyani is served with a banana leaf base, is very carby and greasy, but so tasty... Comes with an egg and tandoori chicken. Egg? Tasty. Chicken leg? Bit dry, but still good. GO FOR IT!

Solid food at low prices. Mutton Buriyani was really tasty with tandoori chicken and a boiled egg.

Chili chicken kothu roti is soooo bomb. The flavor is on point with the right amount of spice. Generous portion too. Just amazing.

It is quite spacious and has a lot of seating to come dine in but does also do take out options. The staff is quite slow here to come take your food and even for your food to come out, so be prepared for that! It took quite some time for one of my friend's dishes to come out while the rest of us had even finished eating. But the staff are very nice and we were seated quite quickly, on the plus side. When it came to the food, everything was pretty good!! We got quite a few appetizers including: Gopi 65 (which was delicious), Chili Idli (would come back just for this) and the Bhaaji. And for our entrees we got the Garlic Parotta with Kurma (would pass on this), Paneer Biryani (was okay), Paneer Masala Dosa (was good) the Mushroom Uthapam (was good) and the Chili Parotta (would pass on this). Overall the food was good, definitely had some dishes I would come back for. If you're looking for some South Indian food in Scarborough I would recommend! 7/10 Recommend!

I won't lie, I was overwhelmed at first on what to pick, so I highly recommend going with a group so you can try a bit of everything. The portion sizes are great, we had so much leftover! The variety is so nice. Taste wise, every dish had my heart. It was all packed with flavour and tasted authentic. The stars for me were the Paneer Chettinad and Parotta with Kurma. Atmosphere -5/5 The interior of this place is insane! It feels like walking into an emperor's house! All the walls have paintings of hindu gods, and the restaurant is decorated so well. It's pretty big so perfect for smaller or larger groups. I'd try to get a reservation on busier nights. Service - 5/5 The staff is super helpful ! We asked a lot of question on what to order and they were so helpful. They would check in on us to, when it's super busy it happened less frequently but totally understandable. Will I go again? I had the pleasure of going here for a family dinner, and I'm really glad we chose this place to eat! Dum Pukht is beautiful decorated with a dark ambiance inside. Lots of seating available, would suggest making a reservation ahead of time to ensure you get seated immediately upon arrival as it can be quite busy. The staff were also super kind and explained all the dishes while also providing alternatives too! We ordered several items off the menu because there was a huge selection to choose from! We started with the Crispy Cheese Balls (9/10 Absolutely delicious and crispy), Tibetian Momo's (7/10 was a little too spicy for my liking), and the Chaat (6/10 on the sweeter end but still good). For the main dishes we ordered some Garlic Naan (10/10 probably one of the best naan's ever), Paneer Tikka Masala (9/10 creamy and delicious), Chicken Vindaloo (8/10 spicy and very flavourful) and lastly the Dum Vegetable Biryani (7/10 a lot of vegetables inside). Overall was such a pleasant experience, also their portion sizes are huge so you really don't need to order a lot if you are coming as a small group. I would highly recommend you come check out Dum Pukht in Markham! 9/10 Recommend!

Upon arriving, the first thing I notice is how dark the restaurant is. Tbh, I think a little too dark for my liking. Food took a looong time to come out but redeemed itself with it's taste and quality! Here's what we got for a party of 4: Chat Papri 5/5 - I might be bias cause I love chat. These were little pockets of crispy wafers topped with chickpeas, diced potatoes and yogurt sauce. It came with 2 sauces to pour into the chat which were mint and tamarind sauce. Loved this! It was a flavour burst in your mouth! Butter Chicken 5/5 - Chicken breast marinated overnight with yogurt and spices. Loved the cream butter tomatoey sauce and paired perfectly with the garlic naan. Can't wait to have this again. Dum-Phukht Biryani 4/5 - This came beautifully presented and opened table side. Thought there was a lot of chicken in there which was nice! Rogan Josh 5/5 - This was hearty and delicious with the lamb. Slow simmered in a rich spiced gravy sauce. Definitely would get this again! Flavourful and spicy. Mixed grill 5/5 - Thought this was a nice mix of meats to share with the table. Came on a grilled platter. Overall, great dining experience and food was fantastic. Only complaints was the waiting time and the super dark interior. Definitely worth a try and will be back for more Indian eats!
