I think batteries plus is an excellent store. I have yet to visit one throughout the Chicago suburbs that does not have a knowledgeable, friendly, and competent person working there. This store is no exception. It is a pleasure to deal with people and not automated phones. I was looking for a camera battery and while they did not carry it in the end, the batteries plus representative made all the efforts to look the battery up. Confirm that she did not have it at her store, but checked all the other batteries pluses in the area and confirmed that none of the stores carried that particular Battery But even offered another company for me to try. Unfortunately, that company was a big box store that I had already reached out to and hung up because all I could get was an animated service that could not help me. I called when I didn't have access to a computer. I asked if they had AA sized Nimh rechargeable batteries in stock. The individual (Mark) asked for a part number. I said I wanted a AA Nimh battery. He said to bring it in so he could get a part number. I asked for the manager, Mark said that he was the assistant manager. I told him that he should know this. He hung up on me. Very poor training, rude. That is a standard product available everywhere from hardware stores to home centers. A quick search when I got to a computer of AA Nimh shows exactly what I was looking for, two brands at Batteries Plus. Available dozens of places. I used to be a Batteries Plus franchisee. They dropped the ball with my latest project. I've used them at least a dozen times over the past 5+ yrs. I had them rebuilt a battery pack for my 24V DeWalt tools. It was working fine after the repair, but it slowly stopped holding a charge over the past 6 months. I took it back to them and they commented it was likely a bad weld. I stopped back after not hearing from them in over a week and they indicated they left me a message that they needed my charger... I never got that call. I actually had it with me when I dropped it off originally, but they said they didn't need. Once again, I didn't hear from them so I called them. They indicated the voltage is fine and it should work. I explained that the tools only run at low speeds and have no torque. I brought the drill in for them to experience it. The store manager Jason, has zero customer care skills. He obviously isn't a tech either. His logic that it was the drill was wrong. I brought in the circular saw and it too had no torque. I left 24 days later from dropping it off with no resolution to my problem. I would be very careful with trusting their diagnostics. I took it to the BP Montgomery location (they're franchises, different owners) and the owner Ron opened it up and troubleshot the problem within 15 minutes. Ron found a bad weld and a defective cell. He repaired it and had me all fixed up in no time. I highly recommend you take your business elsewhere. I contacted corporate to vent and they called the store. It was then determined the battery packs only have a 6 month warranty. This is the 1st I'm hearing this and again find their diagnostic abilities are subpar. They had led me to believe that there wasn't going to be any charge. They didn't ever generate a service ticket, they only printed out a copy of the original repair made 9/2017 when I 1st brought it in. Update: I stopped in the following day and showed Jason the drill he believed was the problem, is good as new. The Montgomery location has a different owner and he had me diagnosed and repaired in an hour for $10. He found a bad weld and replaced a cell that had a short and low voltage. Jason seemed to be full of excuses. He didn't explain how they misdiagnosed the problem, or why they needed 24 days to try and repair it. read more

Great local find! I needed to find a bunch of batteries for my home phones that are discontinued and getting hard to find replacements! At the cost of the batteries at other places I may as well just buy whole new units and forget the batteries, unless the units are no longer made!! Well this was a great find, cheaper batteries!! New concept! Thank you, I found a bunch of NEW batteries for about half the price! I am going to have to check this place out next time I need a new laptop battery! I would not recommend taking your watches here. In the last year, I've taken 4 watches in here and they were able to replace the battery in only one. My most recent experience in the store was awful. I took a new watch in for a battery (watches can sit in warehouses for a few years, apparently), it was a Movado watch. The guy there took it into the little shop area, I could hear him grunting with the effort of getting the back off. I then heard a file of some sort, he was sharpening the tool he was using to remove the back. I heard more grunting for a while until he brought the watch back -"sorry, couldn't get the back off". OK, he tried. When I looked at the watch at home, he'd scratched up the back of the watch pretty good. I took it back to complain, he said "nothing I can do". I thought it would be convenient and a little less expensive to shop there. I was wrong. read more

Did you know Batteries Plus sells car batteries? Yep. They do. I assumed this was the place you go to get over-priced cell phone replacement batteries or weird watch batteries, but no. I went to the MINI Cooper owner's message board to get recommendations for an inexpensive place to find a new battery to fit my Cooper. After 6 years running on the original, I knew it was only a matter of time before this one went dead. MINI's are fun but strange little cars and you have to be pretty careful about the battery fit. So, I was pleasantly surprised to get a recommendation on the board for Batteries Plus. I had no idea they sold car batteries. I called the store, and the very helpful guy on the phone found the exact battery I needed (the one that would actually fit the weird MINI dimensions) and it was a decent price. Definitely on par with the price of all the other shops that sold car batteries. I didn't get the chance to go in right away to get the battery, but when I called a couple of weeks later, the guy remembered me, confirmed they still had the battery I needed and we went right over to the shop. Installation took about 10 minutes. I paid, we left. Seriously easy. And the guys working were very polite and helpful. Fantastic service over all. Definitely recommend for car batteries and more. read more

I went to the Ogden location in Naperville to resolve a battery issue that I have been trying to resolve with the Bolingbrook store for 3 months to no avail. They gave me a refund at the Ogden location, were wonderful, and I will definitely go back to that store--never to the Bolingbrook location. read more

I have a little alarm I take when walking my dog. It is has an odd size battery so like I always do when I need batteries I go to Batteries Plus Bulbs on Ogden Ave. Ralph knew right away which battery I needed. Not only did he sell me the correct battery but he put it in the alarm only to find out something was still not working. He checked it out got some electrical tape and worked with it until it the alarm worked. He also pointed me to some batteries on sale for smoke alarms which I tend to forget to buy. This is not the first time I have come in when the employees went the extra mile to make sure everything was working in addition to selling me the battery. My key fob battery was going out after three years of owning the car. My coworkers suggested batteries plus. I went there and for 11.00 they changed my key fob battery. Three months later my key fob starts acting up, so i think that i just changed my key fob battery, must be something wrong with my car. Before taking the car in i go to walgreens, buy a new battery for 5.99, just on the off chance it could be the battery. It turns out the battery was out, the battery they gave me only lasted 3 months. Apparently they charge an extra 5.00 to change it for you. What a rip off. read more

Brought in a watch (moderate priced Seiko) they promised no problem, did not ask anything about the watch, just took it from me to an area where I could see what he was doing with the watch. He struggled to get the back off from what I could tell, and instead of stopping and admitting he did not have the correct tool he scratched up the back of the watch, and then acted like nothing happened, and he did not acknowledge he made a gouge on the stainless steel back (case) and worse, made no effort to fix or make the situation right. of course no apology and I am sure he was hoping that since they were busy, it was a Saturday, I would just be pushed away and out by other customers. Beware, do not take your watch to this place. All Batteries Plus are not the same, some are awesome (Awesome is on Kirk Rd. Aurora where they actually discussed the situation and were replace the battery, had the correct tool, and were super nice people over all!) Stay away from Ogden Ave Store if you value your watch, no matter how much the watch is worth. Very poor customer service, felt bad when I left. Overpriced. Go to Amazon or anyone else. Tried to recycle a small bag of household batteries and was told there was a charge! Saw another customer being gouged to have auto fob batteries replaced. Go to your dealership and they will probably replace them free. I know mine does. Or, check the manual. Chances are you can do it yourself. OMG! I went in to buy a battery for my watch. Didn't have my glasses and asked him to pop the back of my watch -----he told me it would cost $10. I said just give me a screw driver or sometime and I will do it --was told it would cost $10. I said I tell you what---I am going to try and pop it off with my key. If i can't I am going to leave and go home and and pop it of ---and I will not be back to buy the battery from you. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PHONES HERE. I was scammed by the technician and now my home button doesn't work properly. Read below for more. Took my phone in for a minor fix a few months ago. The tech damaged my phone then stated he would fix the screen for free which he did. Once he finished he gave me the phone back stating there was some bad news "the home button stopped working". He stated Batteries + couldn't fix it since its Apple's proprietary hardware and that Apple would fix it for $20 (a complete lie). I took it to Apple but they said it would cost $150 to fix, so I went back to Batteries to get it resolved. It turns out the work order, which he had me sign, stated the phone wasn't working when I brought it in. This is a complete lie. I also never received a copy of the work order. Because of this work order Batters + won't fix my phone. After numerous talks with the owner, managers and their corporate customer care they all stated they wouldn't fix my phone. I was scammed by this company and they employ disgusting business practices. They've lost a customer for life and I'll make sure everyone I know avoids this place. EDIT: this is in response to their reply to me: When I brought the phone in the screen was popping out of the casing a little bit, everything was working fine including the home button. When I signed the work order the tech just said the work order stated he replaced the screen. It said nothing about the phone not working when I brought it in. If I had known that I would have never signed it. The biggest mistake I made was trusting the tech that did the work on my phone. He damaged my phone then flat-out lied on my work order and screwed me out of a repair! Most untrustworthy company I've ever dealt with in my life. read more

I bought a sealed marine battery for $300 in December 2013 for use with my Basement Watchdog battery backup sump pump. The battery came with a 24-month warranty. Fast forward 18 months, and the battery dies (discharged, will not charge). I took it back to Batteries Plus, and they gave me fairy tales about how it could have been my Watchdog or it could have been this or it could have been that; basically any excuse except that their battery failed during the warranty period. I escalated to the store owner and he gave me the same song and dance, refusing to honor the warranty. Stay away from this store and this company, they are dishonest and will not honor their warranties. read more

I cracked my Iphone6 screen. I have the Verizon Insurance through Asurion but it was going to cost $200 for a replacement and i would be without my phone for a day or 2. I did reseach and learned Batteries Plus can repair the screen for only $129.00. So I made appointment on line and got a $10 off coupon and they had it fixed within an hour. I am very pleased with the service the person explained that they stand behind their work and if I had problems to bring it back in and they will fix!! Very happy! read more

They charged me a 20% "restocking fee" for a supposedly new battery that did NOT hold a charge. They told me since the voltage on the battery was OK that the battery was fine. They sell junk from China that doesn't work. I guess their 20% restocking fee is the only way they can make money. Sadly, someone else will have to go through the same thing because they'll walk 15 feet across the store (you know they thing they charged me 20% for) and put it back on the wall. This is the first negative review I have ever written on yelp. Horribly disappointed in their service. I have always visited this location and been met with helpful employees. Saturday I went in and was met with two employees that did not greet me or even ask what I needed. After I explained to them I was looking for a battery for my key fob one employee took my keys and went into the back to open the fob. The other employee came out to chat with her about leaving early and night plans. 10 minutes later the girl informed me she couldn't open the keys and gave me a bland response of "I don't know what to do" several times. I would think that selling me the battery, asking me to come back another time, or having a recommendation would have been the right response instead of blank stares. I smiled and left, knowing that with responses like that I was getting nowhere. I drove down the street to the other location and the employees were helpful, kind, and able to replace my battery all within 5 minutes. read more
