We had an area of ceiling sheetrock repaired twice and the problem recurred. When contractors gave us estimates to repair it a 3rd time, they told us there would be no warranty on their work, because it was likely that frame movement resulted in the cracking... and that the root cause could be a foundation problem. They suggested we have it looked at. I spent some time looking at reviews of foundation companies, and settled on Bats. When I called, I was asked a few questions about my issue, and an appointment time was set with Calvin Burnett for about a week later. Calvin called ahead because he was running early the day of the appointment. He spent over an hour inspecting our home inside and out. He took precise measurements from a high point on our floor, and at points throughout our home. When he was done, he explained what he found, which was that the foundation measurements were within specification. He sent a report including a map of our home with the measurements later that same day. There was no charge for this, and Bats will keep the data in their records for comparison if the need arises in the future. Both the person I spoke with over the phone and Calvin were professional and helpful. There was no obligation or charge for the excellent service we received. I scheduled foundation repair with Bats. They said that the polyurethane foam injection would be a good solution for my problem. I didn't realize that they were outsourcing this work to a different company. The 2-year warranty should have been a red flag. The 3rd party performed the work. They seemed very unprofessional. I don't think they used the engineers report I had available at all, they appeared to just be eyeballing it. When they said they were done I asked to see the new elevation readings and they hadn't taken any. Less than 2 months later, all of the familiar problems returned. They did return to honor the warranty, but broke 2 water pipes in the process. I had a plumber jackhammer through the flooring to make the repairs and needed the flooring replaced. They said this was my problem and not theirs. Again all of the problems returned shortly, but there is no way I will risk them touching anything again. These photos are 1.5 years after the work was done. The house looks like a warzone and I'm out $6k. So Bats did not perform the work but they refused to take any accountability in my case which I find very unethical. read more

When I discovered cracks in my exterior foundation that connected to cracks in my interior tile flooring, I was distraught. I knew nothing about foundation repair, and I had to learn a great deal very quickly. After researching several companies and examining multiple proposals, I selected Bats Foundation Repair. I went into the process as an apprehensive homeowner seeking honest guidance and August Walker provided just that. August prepared a fair and reasonable assessment, took the time to explain what needed to be done, and answered all of my questions. Upon engagement, Brent Parks coordinated scheduling and payment. Brent is amazing! Much like with August, communication was always top notch, and both were incredibly patient with me. I watched tons of YouTube videos and expected loud construction noises, but the process was far more extensive than I had envisioned. While in the home, you can hear and feel everything! I work from home and if I had chosen a weekday as I had originally intended, I wouldn't have gotten anything done. So, I'm truly thankful that Brent offered and suggested a Saturday project date. The project foreman was great! He explained the plan for stabilizing my home's foundation and kept me informed throughout the day about what was happening and why. My home required eleven steel piers, and to my complete shock, the crew had dug under my home and installed all 11 piers before lunch! The engineer arrived around noon, inspected the work, and signed off on the project. The crew then completed the work by filling in the holes with dirt and restoring the driveway with concrete. They were done and gone by 2 or 3pm. Upon final payment and submission of a successful hydrostatic test result, Kalia Moua helped me wrap up things by providing me with the warranty packet which included the engineer's report and warranty transfer information. Each person from Bats with whom I interacted was warm, kind, and considerate. Along the way, I felt like I had a team of highly skilled professionals working with me towards a common goal. The entire house was raised due to a dropped of over 5 inches since the remodeling in 2006, which was a very wet year. I live in East Austin where the soil is clay. Mike suggested I hire an Engineer, which I did and his report was pretty close to Mike's. The sewer pipe separated, so a plumber was needed. I called Austin Water to request they come out to locate my "home owner "sewer clean out. Everything worked out great. The crew was courteous and cleaned up afterwards. They were friendly, until recently, but the work was subpar. The correct action to repair my peer and beam foundation was not done, so they had to redo the work. This was after I kept on them to review the engineer's report that clearly showed all of the levels were worse after they did the work. When redoing it, which I am happy to say they agreed to, they didn't put in as many new footings as they should have, seemingly to avoid fixing the bathroom floor I had just replaced. Once done, they left large mounds of dirt around and along 1/2 of the house without pounding it down. This led to giant tunnels being created when it rained which caused water to get under the house. Their response was that I needed to buy dirt from Home Depot and fill them in and pound them out....since they didn't. read more

I was initially extremely happy with Bats. The initial evaluation was done quickly, and the guys who came out to fix the foundation in my guest house with polyurethane foam seemed great. However, when they left, a 3" wide, and 3-6" deep crack was left across the entire room. They explained that my flooring repair company would be able to fix the crack. I spoke with multiple flooring companies and handymen, and they all told me that the foundation company should have filled in the crack. I spoke with Bats two more times and was told that they could not fix the crack and that I should find a handyman to do it. I was stuck without being able to replace the flooring until I can find someone to fix the crack. Also, they unplugged the fridge in my guest house and didn't plug it back in, causing the entire thing to become covered in mold. And they also sprayed the foam on a piece of wooden furniture, and I cannot remove it. I'm really disappointed. read more

Living East of I-35, I'm a victim of the area's legendary expansive clay soil. I think that the foundation repair itself is probably fine, but I was disappointed that Bats did not adequately set our expectations prior to the work. While we received a drawing of where the piers would be placed, I would have appreciated having it explicitly stated that any plants we wanted to save should be removed by us prior to the work. Even though they sort of replanted them, the plants didn't survive. Unfortunately, it rained on the Friday they did the work, resulting in lots of heavy wet clay mud. They finished the same day, but left too much dirt around the foundation. While we inspected the work, we didn't do so closely due to the mud, or we might have realized. There was a trench on the side of the house. They rebuilt it after the foundation work, but they left too much dirt inside it. When it rained 2.8 inches the following Saturday, the water in the trench rose to 2 inches above the bottom of the siding, resulting in the house flooding with muddy water that night. This week, I removed several cubic feet of clay from the side of the house (to clear the trench) and from the front of the foundation (to restore the slope away from the house). A lot of work for a senior. I read online that we can expect the foundation to settle for anywhere from 4-6 weeks to 6 months. They should make that clear, so that interior repairs aren't started too early. read more

Could not have been more pleased- professional, honest, on time. Scheduled an appointment in Sunrise Beach, TX as we had cracks in tiles in a 4 year old home on a slab. Steve arrived early for our appointment...how often does that happen?. He did thorough inspections of the exterior, & interior and shot elevations of the interior. His conclusion was there was no structural problem for them to work on and he made suggestions for us to address soil expansion & shrinkage problems that could lead to problems in the future. Also explained that now that they have existing elevations for a baseline, they could later come & recheck to see if anything changes. He gave us a copy of the plan with elevations for our files.
