I met with Will for an estimate on March '24. Nice guy and clearly knows his stuff. Accepting the contract was simple and done via email. The crew were out a couple of days later and went straight to work. No drama, a little noise but to be expected. The job required less piers than estimated, so bid price was reduced. After finished, the lead for crew asked if I wanted surplus dirt anywhere (I didn't) so they removed it. Area of activity was watered and leveled so grass will have good shot at growing. Overall, as simple and easy a process as can be imagined. I've always heard that the company operates primarily off of word of mouth - and stays quite busy. Flashy ads clearly aren't needed. Don't work with this company! They damaged my bathroom, possibly harmed the integrity of my foundation, did not uphold standard procedures, did not verbally communicate to me the limits of the warranty or the likelihood of damage and were completely unyielding, unhelpful and uncaring when they did create damage. I initially contracted them to replace a rotten beam along the bottom of the house and to assess the integrity of a joist once that beam was removed. There was no permit pulled for moving the ground. The workers at no point entered the house to assess whether there was any movement from their work (which is standard operation). No measurements were taken to ensure correct levels. On the day of the repair, I asked the workers 5x whether there was damage to the joist, was told no, only to discover that they had confirmed damage to the owner. After the repair, I found that the bathroom floor had sloped, the wall had separated from the floor and the tub from the wall, the tile and wall had cracked. When I contacted the company, they were indifferent to the damages they caused and said that this was common. They never once, in the many communications I had with them told me that the beam would shift the level of the structure. Since I declined leveling (thinking it was unrelated), they were totally unprofessional to not mention that the leveling was necessary with the type of work or that damage was likely. The owner was borderline rude and insisted that the contract did not cover damages. Evidently, it didn't even cover leveling correctly so as to avoid damages or correcting the level that they upset. They also do not cover a certification by an engineer which is common. Without that inspection, I am not even able to get a new company to fix the problems they created. read more

We recently purchased a pier and beam home that had prior foundation work done by Bruecher, and since the house was still not level we reached out for repairs. Some of the existing repairs were covered by Bruecher, but he explained that for the home to be "completely level" we needed additional work done as well. We agreed. Scheduling was delayed at first, but once the team was here they were consistent. While Howie was always communicative and overall good to work with, his crew was not supervised well. We noticed that one crew member was drinking on the job daily. When we brought it up to Howie he told us it would be addressed. One of my big issues was that without telling us, toward the end of the job the crew took some extra concrete and slapped some on the front of the steps of our walkway up to our front door. They never mentioned this to us. Well, with three kids and a dog, someone accidentally 'smudged' that extra concrete and now there is a large mark on the front facing side of the front steps of my home. I complained a bit about this and they said they would fix it, but there is still a large mark that is darker than the rest of the concrete, which looks shotty and we never asked for to begin with. Overall the experience wasn't horrible, the crew did a very decent job on the project, but I would hope that in the future there is better supervision and communication with Howie's crew. read more

I am very upset with my experience with this company. I have a warranty on my foundation, although the previous owners already had done it two years ago. Obviously things shift and get damaged when foundations are fixed but the extent of this damage has cost me thousands to fix, and this company did not inform me of the ins and outs of what they needed to do and how this might impact my house. My deck has completely shifted and when I was told, the owner was very unhelpful and did not provide me any recommendations to remediate this problem- he simply said he wasn't a "deck guy". You would think that if this was his line of work that this would be common in his practice and he could recommend me with a company or how to fix this. I was shocked everyday with the scope of the work and the mess that was made, and given no warning of what my living conditions would be like until this was repaired. "This is messy work ma'am" I was told by the owner...My floors had to be taken out-(I asked for recommendations about someone who could help me with this task and again I got, "I am not a floor guy, m'aam")- but the drawing they had of where I needed to take them up were off, so when they removed more of my floors they were damaged and now I am needing to pay thousands in new flooring. Again, I know these things happen when foundations are fixed and houses are moved but I am very upset I was not told of the scope of this work beforehand. All I was told is it would take 3 days and I need remove some flooring. Also, when they put a hole in my floor they came across a pipe with duct tape on it, and stopped their work and told me I needed a plumber to look at it or else they couldn't finish. I got a plumber in and it turns out wrapping piping in duct tape is very standard as it protects them from the concrete poured, and the plumber even said that someone who specializes in fixing foundations should know that. So this further delayed my project. The lack of transparency and help with recommendations felt really jarring and rude. I was feeling so frustrated I actually had my father communicate with the owner, and go figure, apparently the owner was more communicative with him than me....doesn't make me feel great. Just wanted to write an honest review of my experience. I truly hope that they were able to fix my foundation so I don't need to use my warranty again. If I do, I really hope that they read this review and take it to heart, and can be kinder and more transparent with their clients, and really educate people who don't do this for a living so we're not left confused and shocked. read more

I hope to be able to update this rating after the work is completed, as I have heard that this company does quality work, but so far I have only experienced frustration and disappointment. It appears old reviews identify timely responses and clear communication as pros. Not sure what has happened with that, but I have a hard time getting responses at all, much less in a timely manner, from day one. The contract was set up through my realtor, and past reviews looked good so I agreed. However, I am almost always the one reaching out about my repair, versus being updated. My repair has been pushed back twice now. The first was for a completely understandable reason (snow), but it was not communicated to me. I reached out midday of what was supposed to be the start date to see when the crew was coming, only to find out it was re-scheduled to the following week. Today, after being told I was 'for sure" slated to start this morning pending a downpour, that it is being pushed to tomorrow. At this point it is hard to feel confident that will actually happen. I have other contractors that will be doing critical work on my house, which I cannot schedule until the foundation repair is completed. I have communicated this several times with Bruecher, but continue to get no response, significantly delayed responses, or communications only after I send e-mails asking for information. Given the cost of a foundation repair (in line with other companies, just a large sum in general), it would be nice to have communication and be treated with respect in terms of scheduling. I also have been given no information about what to expect during the work. To be perfectly honest, even if the work goes well, it will be difficult to provide more than an average rating, as scheduling, updates, etc. are a crucial component of major house repair decisions. I thought Mr. Breucher was a good guy -- until he disappeared and left me totally in the lurch. At first everything seemed perfect. Not only was Breucher Foundation (hereafter BF) going to do guaranteed work, but it turned out that he needed a service that my company provided, and we made a handshake agreement to trade services. The only sour note was that my friend warned me she'd been in a deal with BF that went south. Should've listened. When the time came to sign an agreement, BF started to flake out. I could talk to the secretary, but Mr. B didn't return my calls. Meanwhile, time was passing and all my other renovation work was waiting for the foundation. I had materials to store and lots of work to do, and still nothing. Mr. B wouldn't respond to email or phone. A couple weeks went by. I finally left a polite message saying that time was tight and I needed help. If he wanted to kill the barter deal, fine. But that didn't win me a response. Finally I just gave up. Thanks for nothing, BF. Use Centex instead; those guys rock. read more

do not use this company. i paid for foundation leveling 10 years ago and they told me my house would never move again. a few years later the cracks in my walls reappeared after the drywall was professionally repaired and they made adjustments but would not cover the wall repairs. fast forward some years later, more and more cracks in the walls and ceilings. i called multiple times over a span of a couple of years and they came and took measurements once in a while but hammed and hawed about the rain and drought and said it's best to wait. no response to the multiple times when i called to follow up. now my doors are either wedged shut or won't latch or bolt. this last time the owner finally came out and said there was a lot of movement , told me to get a hydrostatic pressure test , which showed i now have a drain leak under my house and, of course, this voids their warranty. and sent over a new quote for 18k. no reason not to believe that all the shifting they didn't want to address was the cause of the plumbing break. again, do not use. read more

He also didn't leverage the situation by fabricating a repair that didn't need to be done - he advised me that what I saw and was initially concerned about were not structural concerns and to just keep an eye on the piers for any changes over time. read more

Will stopped by to give our home an evaluation and free estimate, and it was good news. Our house is over 12 years old and has some settling, like any house would. We're looking to sell in the near future and since a neighbor a few houses away had foundation issues and a lot of work done on their house, we thought we should have our house checked. Turns out that we are within specs and no work is required. However, since I asked if there is anything they could do, Will is working on a proposal for minimal work that is proactive and preventive maintenance if we so choose to move forward. Although no work has been done, I still want to thank Bruecher Foundation for giving an honest assessment and for not using scare tactics to drum up work. We had a horrible experience with Howie Bruecher and Bruecher Foundation. We hired them to install a new pier foundation for an addition to our home, and there were so many issues. They initially told us the work would take a few days, and it took a couple weeks. The crew would show up between 9:30-10am every day and be gone by 4pm, with an hour lunch break in the middle of the day. They would leave a mess of trash in our yard every day - cigarette butts, empty cans, food wrappers. Our hose was broken, and one day they left our water running. Everything about how they did the work seemed off. They used small power tools and hand tools, where it seemed heavy machinery would have been more fitting to blast through rock. They hand mixed bags of concrete instead of having a concrete truck out. Over time we became skeptical of their work, and my husband starting to take notice of issues. At one point, he let them know that one of the piers that had been poured was out of line with the other piers. The crew even confirmed that he was right and attempted to fix the issue after concrete had been poured, and of course it looked sloppy. Howie later told my husband that he shouldn't have made his crew stay out later and work longer hours. When they said the work was complete, we inspected and noted several piers were not level, among other issues. We expressed to Howie and his team that we were not happy with the work and did not feel confident about moving forward with our build on this foundation. We detailed everything via email and asked them to please correct the issues. They told us for two weeks that they would come back out and every day they said they would be here, no one showed up. Howie made excuses that we lived too far away (Liberty Hill), but why take the job if it's too far for you to drive? Finally Howie came out, took a look at the piers for 30 minutes, and we never heard from him again. He wouldn't answer our calls or emails, and next thing we know he's filed for a lien on our property. We ended up calling another company, and they fixed Howie's horrible work. They knocked down several of the piers he installed, and we found he did not use the correct grade of rebar or enough rebar in the piers, and the piers were not far enough in the ground. They confirmed that several of the piers were not level, actually off by inches in some cases. Overall, terrible experience, poor quality work, and very unprofessional. I do not recommend hiring Bruecher Foundation. read more

I first called Howie Breucher because I asked three different building inspectors for recommendations for foundation companies and two out the three independently recommended Breucher Foundations. Howie did the foundation work at two projects that were pretty tough. One was my own house, which involved replacing the pier and beam foundation on the existing house and putting in a new foundation for an extension. The other was replacing the foundation for an investment property. He was extremely prompt and responsive on both jobs and his bid were at or lower than the cost of the other estimates I got (can't remember how much exactly now, sorry - I remember these guys generally charge "x" amount per peir and beam and Howie's cost was as low or lower as anyone else.) The great thing that he did recently was that I have the investment place on the market and the buyers came back requesting $20,000 on foundation work. Howie's bid to do exactly what they described was $1600. As someone who moved to Austin from LA and has had disappointment after disappointment with respect to Austin construction types (contractors, plumbers, electricians, framers, you name it) it has been a huge relief to have a great foundation guy and to have been able to count on him throughout. read more

I have a slab foundation house with an addition. Just my addition needed "lifting." After calling Bruecher Foundation, Howie came out about two days later and gave me a written estimate within a week's time. Work was scheduled to be done about two weeks later and completed in one day. The crew, including the workers and the two supervisors, were polite and professional. After the work was completed, the area was cleaned up and looked better than before they started. Overall, I am very happy with the work done. The price was also extremely reasonable. The first one ended up being a lot more work than expected, but the price they gave me stayed the same. On the very next project the work ended up being less than expected and the price was lowered to reflect that. Had Howie come out and make some repairs to my pier and beam foundation. Generally had a good experience. it was difficult to schedule and the start date was continuously being pushed back although it was promptly completed when started. the only complaint i had was that it didn't seem like howie was around to supervise his men. there was a misunderstanding about which joists needed replacing. at the end of the day, all the necessary work was completed although it required me to go under the house and show him what his guys missed. my suggestion would be to make sure you know EXACTLY what work needs to be done to begin with and make sure he and his team understand the expectations. Don't count on him to find the problems, find them yourself and make sure his guys complete the work. Howie was nice and easy to deal with when problems arose. read more

It took a call to my realtor and some emails to the office but he got back to me, sent out a plumber to evaluate the drainage lines, and I think we're going to add some concrete piers (under warranty) when his schedule frees up in 2 months. He's in the field alot, supervising his workers. So, you will reach his secretary periodically. I tried calling few companies to get an appointment scheduled to take a look at any potential foundation issues because of some cracks in the foundation for a house I got inspected. Howie Bruecher returned my call the next day and fit me in his busy schedule. As promised, his son Will turned up promptly at the house and checked the foundation and much to our relief, said that there are no foundation repairs that are required and also assured that those cracks are cosmetic and nothing major.
