A Gem in East Liberty. I needed a bald fade desperately, and had heard for years that Bat's was the place to go. I walked in on a Thursday afternoon, expecting a wait of at least 30 minutes, but I was in the chair in 10. My barber asked what style I wanted, and asked a couple times during the cut if I was pleased with the progress. The cut will take a while. I was in the chair for about 20 minutes (only have 2/3rds of my hair that gets cut). The result was good, much better than any SportsClips or Super Cuts job, but on par with other barbers I have experienced. What made the experience especially refreshing was the conversation in the shop. There was no swearing and there was no lewd or inappropriate talks. So you can bring your child here without having to explain anything they likely picked up already from public school :) There is an option to make an appointment if you don't want to take a chance. read more

Most of the barbers do not care as much as they should. They only see you as an opportunity to make money. And don't expect your haircut to be anything special. Great barbershop. Neighborhood feel, multiple barbers who know what they're doing and make decent conversation while doing it. Parking is usually easy to find, and prices aren't bad either. Can't go wrong. The only issue--and it's actually a good sign--they're always packed. So either go early and be prepared to wait, or make an appointment (not all of the barbers will accept but some do). read more

A quick review of my previous post, you can easily see I travel a lot. Key with moving/traveling is finding a good (scratch that Great) barbershop! Man this place is on point! Professional, courteous, and a good mix of old school vibe with the freshness of today's hip or trendy spots. The decor is barber shop 101...8 chairs up front and a couple in the back. Got my cut from one of the junior guys in the shop (the owner has been cutting for 35 years). It was great to watch the level of mentorship (without intrusiveness). These guys have a brand and they make sure all are living up to the high standard they've set! Aaron was my barber, young, personable, very respectful, and extremely comfortable cutting my hair (which sends most barbers scratching their respective heads trying to figure how my hair seems to have a mind if it's own, each stroke of a comb). Aaron, took a minute to study, asked important questions about styling, hats vs no hats, type and length of fade I wanted, in what was akin to a new doctor getting a health history. I was each of the barber's take great care to professionally deliver a great cut! My friend got her eye brows done and they looked sooooo good when she stepped away from the chair. Called the day before to set up an appointment because I had to work at 11. Kevin told me to come in at 9:30. Got there at 9:13. Left at 9:50 when the barbers called up other customers and didn't acknowledge me. Realized I would be late for work. Stopping to watch sportscenter was more important than cutting hair. read more

Out of town and went here for a haircut based on reviews. The gentleman (big dude) that cut my hair did a pretty poor job. Not sure if the clippers even cut my hair. Not sure what kind of scissors he used. Didn't look like barber's scissors. Where he learned to cut hair is beyond me. His skills could use some MAJOR polishing. Gave him the payment and did not get correct change. Either he thought he was being clever or didn't know how to count, because it did not deserve a tip. Got back my change after I questioned him. More a $5 cut than a $15 one. Maybe if I got someone that knew how to cut hair, the experience would have been better. This shop is way old-school and needs a modern touch. Not impressed. Can't wait to get back to my stylist for a real cut. read more
