Barber was so kind and genuinely interested in getting to know me as a client. However, he took almost an hour to cut my hair to a simple cut that couldve taken 30-35 minutes to achieve. Then proceeded to charge me for the hour long session. Nice place, friendly service. Haircut was $15, which is more than I pay in NYC but it was a good cut. And fast, too! They have a shoe shine guy there as well. It's in the basement of an office building and the inside of the building is beautiful. read more

I was in terrible need of a cleanup and noticed they were located right down the street from my hotel - The Monaco Pittsburgh. They take walk--ins...major plus for travelers like myself and at $17 for a cut...I'm all in. This is an old style barbershop....they cut it close and I really do love the straight razor clean-up. I called 412-391-9866 to schedule a haircut appointment with Ron this morning. I've been getting my hair cut by Ron for quite some time. As an Army Reserve Soldier, I need to get my haircut about once a month and I have never had a bad experience with Ron. He's a very personable gentleman who takes pride in what he does. During my conversation with him today, surprised to learn that he's been cutting hair in the Koppers Building 47 years! He also told me that he started cutting hair back in1964. The barbershop itself is pretty "bare bones" basic and nondescript . You're not going to get a perm or colour there; just a quality haircut. And although I haven't gotten my hair cut by anyone other than Ron there, I've never seen a bad cut leave the place. If you need a haircut, this place is a pretty safe bet... but as others have mentioned, it's best to call ahead for an appointment. read more

Hidden gem! In the basement of a beautifully restored building lies one heck of a hidden gem of a barber shop. You would never even know it's there if someone didn't tell you. The beautiful and spacious shop looks like it would be old school, but that's not really the case. The lone barber is young....and one heck of a nice guy. Was pretty excited to come here seeing all the great reviews. Unfortunately, I guess this business is past its prime, as most the reviews are from 7+ years ago. It says they are open at 7 am on google maps, so I showed up at 8:15-8:30 ish (Wednesday), and the lights were off and no one was there. Even says 6:30 on the sign at the door. Coming from a family of small business owners, I absolutely hate leaving bad reviews. I don't know if covid messed this place up a little, but I guess they don't care enough to update their hours. This place has become my go-to downtown for getting my hair cut. While walk-ins are welcome, it's best to call ahead and schedule so you're not waiting. I hate to throw anyone there under the bus, but be sure to ask for Judy, Shannon, or Ron when calling to make an appointment. As one should be, I am very weary of trying a new barber. Of course they are all competent at cutting hair, but are they good? Will the hold an awkward conversation? Will they be open to doing the cut how you want? Many questions to be answered. I went down on my lunch break as a walk in and was scheduled for a cut within 30 minutes. Great service, always timely and a fun atmosphere. I love walking to this place during lunch to get my haircut, walking into a place that has some of the same charm it was supposed to have when it was built in 1929. I've been going here for a few years. They do take walk-ins, and it looks like all of the barbers do a pretty solid job. I go to Judy, and if you want her, it's best to get an appointment because she's in high demand. She listens to what you want and reliably delivers.
