Not my cup of tea. I came on a Saturday around they time they were opening and I was lucky to get a cut pretty quickly. The place got very busy within 15 minutes of me getting there. There is nowhere to hang your coat so you have to put it on one the benches where other patrons waiting will have to move it around to get a seat. My barber was kind of a dick. Swore a lot, was arrogant, and pretty rude. The haircut was basic and had to listen to the guy swear and talk about his date that night and how hung over he was. Tried this spot out for the first time and got myself a really great haircut! Parking: It's going to be tough in this area but if you're patient you'll find something. This is certainly an added cost to going to this establishment that you might not get elsewhere. Facilities: It was a bit in disarray but they were super busy. Hair was all over the floor as they jumped from one patron to another with no breaks in between. Plus, it's a barbershop so I'm not necessarily expecting much. Service: This was the tough part for me. I called ahead to see if I needed to make an appointment and they said no, which is totally fine. However, there was a considerable wait to get my hair cut as a result. I knew this going in so I wasn't upset about it but I actually like the appointment system that other places have. We are visiting Pittsburgh and were walking past this very nice barber shop on the South Side. I turned to my husband and said, "You wanna go?" Which meant, "You need to go!" What an amazing job the owner did. My husband got a haircut, his edges cleaned up, his brows groomed, beard trimmed and edged- all for $20.00. Absolutely not the place to go if you're over 30 and want a haircut that doesn't resemble one from Paris Island (Marine Corp. boot camp). Granted, I don't have much anymore, but now I have next to nothing because, as the barber said, "not much we can do." Really? Every other barber could, but you decided to, or didn't care, or didn't have the talent, to even try. As my Grandfather use to say, "The difference between a good haircut and a bad one is two weeks". After going here, however, it's probably more like a month. Unfortunately, next week I have a major business presentation. This is a hit and miss barber shop. As any barber shop is, you need to find the guy that you like. I've been here 4 times and all four experiences were different. I only liked my cut once and only that time was worth it. The others were either disinterested and trying to get you in and out...speed cuts and half-assed shaves. That being said it would be un-fair to say all the barbers in the shop do this. Just moved to the area and used Yelp to assist me with finding a new shop. I liked the previous reviews and ratings here and it's one of the few shops I saw open on Sunday. They were open on time and I was greeted by RC. RC is an amazing barber. He's kind, makes you feel at home, and truly amazing with sheers. I felt like I had been coming to this place for years. I started taking my boys here for hair cuts a few years ago. It started out real well. Then the one guy got arrested and he was no longer in the ship. We went again and the guys that cut hair can do a decent job. But then my boys got a bad cut again so I quit going for awhile. This past week I went again to give it another shot because it wasn't terrible. Well I was dead wrong. The dudes cutting hair there now are not very good. And while they gave me one free cut because it was so bad, it didn't help. They cut my boy with the straight razor, the other ones line is so crooked it ain't even funny no more. The one guy on the end I didn't catch his name would probably be the only dude I would trust to cut either of my boys hair, but it's so hot or miss there, that I'm just done going there for good! read more

I have never received a bad haircut from this place. I have been coming here for a few years and they are very versatile in the styles of cuts they can pull off. I've seen them cut smaller children and older men. They even do style cuts on females from time to time. The only problem I've ever had with South Side Barber is that they are very unpredictable as far as what staff is going to be working. It's incredible that they are open seven days a week and even offer appointments (for an up charge) but if you like a specific barber, it's hard to tell when he's there. Wait times are like any barber shop. Hit or miss. Go on a Friday or Saturday, you're gonna wait a bit. Sunday through Thursday though, you're out in less than an hour. read more

Went to this shop today for the first time since my regular barber is on vacation. The "barber" that cut my hair was not only rude, but totally messed up my hair. I ended up coming home and just doing a buzz cut with my personal clippers. "Fade the sides, just below finger length on the top" were the instructions I told him, in addition to showing him a picture on my phone. This place is legit. The guys are hillarious and always getting underneath each others skin. They need their own TV show! They always have a line and they cut a lot of famous peoples hair. I would highly reccomend to anyone out of town looking for a a good tape up/fade who is fed up with the other so called barber shops in pittsburgh. Two things that I don't like - they only accept cash which is kind of a bummer (they used to use square? not sure what happened to that). I've been coming here every week for a year and I came in today and two of their best barbers don't work here anymore. They have had a pretty high turn over rate since I've been coming but I was able to get Chuck, who in my opinion is the best barber in Pittsburgh, to give me a great cut every time. I don't think I'll be going back now, I think it speaks to the management/ownership of the joint when two of your most popular barbers don't want to cut there anymore. Got my beard done by one of the new guys today and the attention to detail was just lacking, he did a fine job, but I could go to sports clips if I wanted just adequate. Apparently Mike is now cutting somewhere on Mount Washington so I guess I'll start there until I find where Mike is cutting. We've never been to a barber before but, we drove an hour and a half to get here. There were only 2 barbers the day we went and the wait wasn't bad at all for a walk in. The barber was awesome, precise and it was so much fun to watch. What an art. I would recommend them to anyone. I have gotten cut at this place twice now. The first hair cut was actually very good but I went for my second time and I asked for a low skin fade up to a 3 and half an inch off the top of my head. Sat down never got cut by this barber before but I figured we would try it. The barber continued to fully 0 out my sides and cut more than 3 inches of bulk off the top of my head. Now I am thinking about just shaving everything and starting over because more than cutting an excessive amount of hair off, the whole top of my head is uneven. The only redeeming quality of the cut was that the people that work here are very sociable, however I don't think I will ever go back again. If you do go here know that you can get a good cut, but make sure you KNOW the barber can in some capacity give you the hair cut you want and don't roll the dice on just anybody. read more

This is a pretty solid barber shop. Most of the dudes here can do a nice fade and will take their time to make sure you look good leaving the shop. Except the old dude Mike who is stationed near the register. This guy cuts rakes the clippers over my head without ever changing the extension to do a proper fade, and the whole haircut is over in 5 minutes. It seriously felt like that scene in full metal jacket. Thank god hair grows back but Mike left me looking like a ducks ass. No attention to detail, completely rushed. Go here. Avoid Mike. read more
