My first visit to Bat 17 was outstanding. We didn't know that the restaurant is actually a 2 part layout, the smaller side was completely full as we were debating to wait for a table or not, the staff member (perhaps manager) was beyond accommodating and offered the option to be sat at the bigger side (which we didn't realize it was the same place) and fixed a table for our group immediately. We asked our server for suggestions and she was great, we even made modifications to the items and the server was extremely flexible to take care of our order. The food is AMAZING AND UNIQUE, it was explained that all their bread is baked exclusively for them as well as all the deli meats and everything else is made in house. FINGER LICKING GOOD! Huge portions, you get your money's worth! No wonder why they have been voted best restaurant in Evanston over and over. Overall great experience, food, service, ambiance, beer selection, prices. After visiting Northwestern University, my family and I went to Bat 17. When I walked in, I was immediately struck with the bar vibe. We immediately went to entrees, and I got the pulled pork sandwich with fried onion strings. I made a mistake with my dish, but the food was worth it. The pork was rich with barbecue and was perfect in sizes. The onions gave a feeling of texture to the dish. I suggest to eat the dish with a fork and knife if you are a messy eater. I was definitely full after eating. I mean, this restaurant has been ranked the best: sandwich, burger, bar, restaurant. When you are in Evanston, you need to go to Bat 17. read more

One of the best burger places to go to in Chicago. They have a lot of unique burgers choices. I usually opt for the burgers over the sliders because I love their onion strings. I've never been disappointed with anything here. I do think the chicken and biscuit sliders were overrated though. Service can be a bit slower here, especially during peak hours. During my most recent visit, I ordered the Ricky-Bobby burger. Not sure if the BBQ sauce they served on the side was house made but it was really good! I also love coming here and splitting the nacho platter with friends! Really, the best value here are the burgers and sliders and if you don't intend on getting that, you're wasting your money. read more

I heart their Sunday Bloody Mary bar. They provide mountains of fixings and all you have to do to customize is add your favorites to the tomato concoction of vodka. Their bartender is pretty good at creating martinis as well. The meat is fabulous and I love their potato salad, but it's too expensive for our college student-esque budget to hit up more than a few times a season. Their alcohol is decently priced, however. One time I ordered a pastrami sandwich and got a turkey sandwich instead and they gave us a free drink. The omelets aren't bad but aren't anything to write home about. I like their potatoes, however. Also, I am a bat lover with tattoos to prove it, so I feel right at home when I walk in and see their bat mural and their Bat Festival posters from Texas. Re: brunch Blueberry muffin french toast was very good. But I'm not sure it was really french toast. It felt much more like a very good blueberry muffin with a little egg and blueberry cream cheese frosting. But it was tasty, so I'm not complaining. I did find a bit too sweet toward the end - there might have been a bit of brown sugar added which could be removed. The fruit on the side wasn't at all tasty. It was bland, and tasted like something a supermarket might have prepared a week prior with unripened melon. Get here early. At 11:30am there's a line out the door. read more

This place is amazing. The Voo Doo with onion strings is my idea of the perfect lunch... that then becomes a perfect dinner because these sandwiches are so big I can't eat it all in one sitting. And a special thanks to the crew today - 10/5/18. I was working with a company that realized this morning they'd forgotten to order lunch for a noon event. I had them reach out to Bat 17, and 2 hours later, a spread for 40 people showed up, complete with plates, napkins, utensils, condiments, etc. Everything looked (and tasted) great, and the delivery people were super friendly. My favorite bar. This place has a great beer selection, several pool tables, and a great staff. The bartenders are sympathetic, the waitresses are gorgeous, the beer selection is superb. Not to mention the food there is amazing. I ordered a burger with an egg and bacon and fried onions, and it was specacular. I'm a pretty big burger lover and this thing was cooked to perfection, not a hint under or over medium rare. Perfect. My friend likes the buffalo chicken sliders, you can get them while you play pool and sip on a Revolution IPA. Extensive menu with high quality food. Two great bars in one, the old side (on the left) is a sit down place with a full bar and lengthy menu (including breakfast!). The new side has a bar menu, pool tables, and televisions. This place was great minus bring too cramped, but with their new addition they leave little else wanting. The beer selection if not extensive is satisfying. The beer towers are a great gimmick and work especially well on the spacious tables in the new wing. Theyve added pool and more tvs which is never a bad thing. As for the food, frankly its on point. The portions are large, and they cater to all bar food palates with well thought out and executed sandwhiches, fried dishes etc. Im a big fan of the pastrami and the jerk chicken sandwich. At the bar the $5 sliders on sunday nights are delicious for those like me who dont mind drinking on the sabbath. read more

This place is a JOKE! Overpriced and crappy food! And they have newspapers articles on the wall too! I got one burger, the other two ladies got a turkey burger and some fried chicken biscuits. Our burgers were disgusting: overcooked, bland, and the buns were very old. Let's not even talk about the chicken: soggy and bland, and the biscuits were made in the Prehistoric age. The waitress wouldn't even bother to top off our water cups. If you make me pay $15 for a burger, I want an award-winning burger, not the CRAP that you guys feed to people. YOU GUYS NEED A GRIP! This place is great for grabbing a burger, beer and a game on tv. Once side is more of a sit down sandwich/burger place while the other is more of a sports bar with pool tables and food service. They also have beer towers which I have yet to see anywhere else in this area. The food and service is great but if you are coming to watch a hawks game late in the season it fills up quick! I was taking a class at northwestern and everyone was raving about the burgers at this place. As a burger fanatic I had to go. First off the servers are great. Attentive and friendly. Menu is definately diverse and seemed delicious. I ended up ordering the royale with cheese. About 15 minutes later got this massive burger and fries to my table. Gotta say after a few bites I was let down. The cheese and sauce tasted amazing. Kudos for the toppings. The problem here is the lack of flavor from the beef. Didn't really taste like anything. Imho you can't have an amazing burger without properly seasoned good quality meat. If I were out drinking and needed something to fill myself up with this place may have it but as for what I was seeking it fell short. read more

Went here last weekend. Wanted to watch a specific bball game (which was on Nat. television), so walked up to bartender and asked if he could put it on one of the 7 TVs in the place. He goes "NOPE, only Blackhawks and Illinois tonight". Um... seriously? For one, this guy wasn't even nice about it, and secondly the games he referenced didn't even start for another 2 hours. That's fine if you don't want to put on a requested game, but don't be a dick about it, and then don't be squeezing a lime into a drink in front of me and then complain how it stings because you have a cut on your finger. Cut on finger. Food preparation 101. Really?... I looked up and on two of the 7 TVs there was a replay 1975 Wimbledon. This remained on the entire time we were there. Thanks, bro. Be careful when buying the beer towers. Some of them are a good deal and some of them are a ripoff -- for instance, right now the Dirty Bastard is $6.75 for 18oz or $45 for a 105oz beer tower, which means the tower is about $5.63 more. Most of the beers average around saving $2.75 by buying the tower, though the Affligem Brewery tower is a great bargain -- normally it's $7.5 for 11.2oz, but the 105oz tower only costs $49, which saves over $20! The menu on their website is out of date currently, there was another beer there that had negative savings but I don't recall which one. Anyways the place is very nice, I'll raise my rating to 4 stars if they fix their beer tower prices. read more

This is the best burger in the northern suburbs, and one of the top in all Chicago area! Service is a bit crabby, but the food is just amazing. Portions a BIG, specially because all Burguer come with generous side fries (ask for sweet potato ones!). For the adults, plenty of great beers! Just keep in mind it's an extension of northwestern, so the place is packed with hungry students all the time! But I think makes everything more authentic and fun! read more

Been here before, food is usually very nicely prepared and served hot. This was the first time that we were disappointed. Burgers were ordered medium rare and arrived well done. Fries were room temperature. To be fair, we did not address these problems with the server as we had to be back at work and didn't have time to wait for a properly prepared burger. This place is great. More burger and sandwich options that one could dream up. The price is right for the area and the food is simply amazing. I'm a huge burger person and this hit the spot. The staff were super nice and I would definitely stop in again. My only small gripe is if you have a group and people pay separately know that you can all put your card in and there's a form you fill out saying how much to pay. If your total is 18.95 write that amount to be put on your card. After they swipe it you'll have the option to tip so don't write the tip in until after the card is slid and you fill it out. read more

Came to Bat17 after a movie and to watch the Cubs game. Pros- big tasty burger. Meh- nachos, service was a little slow. Cons- overpriced food. I briefly read the spiel inside the menu about why the food is overpriced and thought it was comical that the restaurant owners know it's a ripoff but are trying to preemptively stop you from judging the food costs. Overall we had a good time and I would stop in again if my friends were meeting there but I might just opt for having drinks. read more

Can I give them zero stars? Having visited this restaurant several times in the past and receiving ok food and ok service, I absolutely refuse to ever go again based solely on the attitude of the owner. I recently ordered food to go on a Friday afternoon. It wasn't very busy and my order was simple: a burger with their sides of potatoes and coleslaw, plus an extra order of potatoes and coleslaw, which I knew would cost extra. Fine. Guy (who I recognize as the owner from previous visits) charges me for my food, I look in the bag and everything looks ok, I even add a tip of $2 to my bill for pickup. I get the food home, and they gave me only one order of potatoes, after charging me for two. Wouldn't be a big deal, except that these stupid potatoes cost $3, plus tax. So I called them to ask to please just refund my card for the food I didn't receive. And this is where it all goes wrong. The man I spoke to said that they'd give me an extra order of potatoes the next time I came in. Uh, no, I'd just like my money back please, which is easy since I paid with a credit card. He said their "system" doesn't allow them to adjust bills, and I either have to take the extra potatoes or if I'm going to be a pain about it, maybe they can send me a check for my $3 and tax. His tone was the rudest I have EVER heard from anyone speaking to a customer. I asked to speak to the manager or owner, and that's when he identified himself as such. Uh oh. I explained that I've never heard of a credit card system that doesn't allow money to be refunded, and what do they do if they accidentally overcharge someone? His response was "There are 30 people standing in here and I don't have time to deal with this. Give me your address and we'll send you the check for your $3." Again, tone is everything. Having asked a friend later who worked as a waitress, this is absolute BS. There is no system on earth that would not allow a return to a credit card, ESPECIALLY in food service, when you have to add and adjust for tips after the bill has been rung up, etc. Based on his tone, and knowing he was the one who gave me my food (and thus my $2 tip, which was based on an inflated bill anyways) I asked that the tip be refunded as well. He said "Oh so you want to punish the server, too?" I said "No, I want the money back that you overcharged me and based on the service I'm receiving right now, no tip is merited." That was more than two weeks ago and I'm still waiting on that check. Not holding my breath. ON TOP OF ALL THIS, they have apparently subscribed me to their e-mail list, which I never signed up for nor do I have any idea how they got my e-mail address. After unsubscribing, I received another e-mail the very next day "from one of the owners" promoting his new book and including a ridiculous and inappropriate YouTube video. Not only that, the e-mail was sent such that everyone could see the e-mail addresses of everyone it was sent to. Very long story short, I will never, ever, EVER patronize this place again, due to their owner's terrible customer service, outright lies, and completely unprofessional and inappropriate business practices, and I hope no one else does either. read more

Will NOT order from here using Grub Hub EVER again. NEVER have this consistent problem with other restaurants--this is a definite problem with how the restaurant prepares their orders for delivery!
