I made my first gun purchase here. I had no idea what exactly I wanted and was able to ask questions and the employee asked me questions and made recommendations and walked me through the whole process. It was a no pressure sale and I feel like I was extremely informed and educated on the gun that I purchased. Love love love Bass Pro! We typically only come once or twice a year. Whenever my dad comes to visit (he is a big hunter) and during the Santa's Workshop event. The kids love the carousel, crafts, games, activities, and of course, meeting Santa and his reindeer! It has been the same Santa the last 2 years which makes it even better, and I'm 99% sure that beard is real! We like to roam the shop and check out the fish tanks, walk across the bridge over the stream and play over in the children's area. The staff is always very friendly and the store is well kept. Disappointed in my visit to this store with my son yesterday. Positives - Overall the sales floor looked good, and merchandising was on point. It was a bit hard to find help, but when I did Pauley in fishing was friendly and answered the questions I had. Gun department (thinking about adding to the collection) greeted me multiple times. Check out - big miss. Started when I Requested a price match on a item that Walmart had for $4 cheaper. Mind you, I have already visited the bass pro shop site and saw that they price match so I decided to purchase everything I needed at your store, instead of making a second trip to Walmart. I was told by the cashier Mark, that Bass Pro does not price match all stores, only other sporting good stores. After I showed him that Bass Pro policy online, he called a manager Britni that said that They cannot match Walmart. Mind you, this is a regularly stocked item, fits all the stipulations on the bass pro website, and there is a Walmart right across the way. Britni's indifference and the fact that she takes price matching personally, and not as a tool to stay relevant in the consumers mind and gain sales leads me to believe that she may need further training. Trust me, the value of the customers is more than four dollars. Then, The two poles that I had selected based on the price point of $19.99 came up as $29.99 at the register. I walked back to where I got the polls and even asked Pauley in fishing to come with me to make sure I'm reading the sign right, and sure enough there were many of these polls stocked with a $19.99 price. I understand if a customer puts the polls in the wrong place, but this was obviously a stocking error and could be a Maricopa County weights and measurement issue (fines). Again the manager was called at the register, and I was meant to feel like I was trying to cheat somebody, I felt undervalued as a customer, and waited over five minutes as They tried to get a hold of someone on the radio, before they ultimately changed the price. All the while my son was asking what was going on, it was a good teachable moment as him and I discussed how the employees, Did not do a good job delivering on their company's brand image. I have enjoyed shopping and in the past, and was clearly disappointed by the interactions on this visit. Skip to today. My son and I get to Tempe town Lake to do some fishing, only to find out the reels we bought had no string on them. I understand, I should've noticed it when I purchased it, but I would challenge you to ask yourself is it good customer service to allow a customer purchasing a new reel ( that shared they're going fishing the next day) to do so without what is needed to use the pole? Would it not make more sense to suggest add-ons like fishing line, lures, and other items needed for fishing? Wouldn't it raise the dollar per transaction? Aren't add-on sales a high gross margin product? If I was buying an electronic toy, I am sure a customer service rep would offer me batteries so that the toys and given to a child who can then not use it. Don't know if I will be back. Looks like I have to go buy fishing line now, but there are other options for that. read more

I just picked up a grinder for $60 less than I could get it online so I am a little jaded. This is an incredible store and the designer should be winning some kind of reward. All I can think about as I walk up to store is "this is where I'm coming when the zombies come" :) Great selections, good staff, good prices and I've never seen more than two people in line in front of me. I haven't ventured into the clothing there but I did pass a few specials for great deals. Great place for kids too. read more

This is the worst place to try to buy a firearm. There is nobody you can ask a question to before you take a ticket and wait. So after waiting 2 hours that's when I find out they were sold out. I tried calling and checking and could not get thru. I will gladly pay al little more at a actual firearm store. read more

We took the Girl Scout troop here tonight. They have some free activities for the kids every Tuesday during the summer months. They got to practice a little archery, and after that we sent them on a fake shopping spree. We wanted to see what they would buy for $250. They came back with everything from pooling their money for a kayak to $250 in fresh fudge. It was a fun time. The place itself was not really a place I would go out of my way to shop or feel I need to travel to for supplies. Just a bit too hunter for me, but I can see why it's a popular place. Went on a Sunday afternoon needing to kill and hour of time. Plenty of things to look at including live fish, all kinds of sporting goods and equipment (including boats and ATVs). I found the dozens of taxidermy big game animals and information on the walls about the hunter who killed the animals to be very interesting. There seems to be something for everyone. My kids really enjoy coming here and it's been a while since we've been here. We definitely noticed how run down things are becoming. The children's toy area has stuffed animals, and pretend wooden rifles, stick horses, cowboy hats and a few other unboxed stand alone items. All of which have been so played with they are used. For a new toy they are overpriced. For a used one, more so. The elevator glass is so dirty and smudged and fogged you can hardly see the awesome fish. The animal displays and windows and ceilings have a substantial amount of cobwebs. All in all everything here seems overpriced. For the most part the displays are clean and organized and the service is friendly. The little old Western shooting range is fun but multiple guns were broken. They changed their policy and you can't pay to shoot with a card and will need cash, Fyi. The animal displays and the trout stream are so cool and worth the trip. It is still a really cool place I just hope it will continue to be maintained and isn't on the decline. read more

Sorely disappointed that this shop does not have any girl hiking shoes. They have women's but no girls kids hiking boots. They carried girls sandals and regular boots with heels. Given that Cabela's some, we figured bass pros would have had some also, but no. They had boys hiking boots. read more

Wanted some gear and went to Bass Pro website. Said Dobson store was "low" on it. Called 3 times to see if in stock. No answer at all first time. Second 2 times I was transferred. After letting it ring 10-15 times, I hung up. Not even a weekend so was surprised. Sent email to manager, Bob, given on the site explaining and gave my phone number. Eventually got email answer. Later, he called. Bob not happy I emailed, no apology. Just said, "I've got customers." Then, "You've got me now. What do you want?" By this time I had called another store, they answered, transferred and told me it was in stock. When I told the Bob, he interrupted me and said in irritated voice, "Then I guess we're done." She got a 'more experienced' clerk/supervisor that when I asked questions...all I got was attitude. I mean really??? You don't want to sell or order me a $600 chair or 2? Finally I just walked away and called Springfield and complained. The person at corp office said to stay there and they would call someone to help me. I waited...waited...waited...finally left and called Springfield back. The person there had called a store in California....not Mesa. Really Bass Pro??? Get your crap together. This is my home away from home... when I can't escape the big city but still need a break I tend to find myself as Bass Pro. Love the fish... and the stuffed critters... and the fact that they have an amazing restaurant attached is even better. Recently I was looking at the archery scene and I will be the first to admit - COMPLETELY CLUELESS about archery. The guys in there were great and very knowledgable. If they didn't personally know the answer, they would ask someone else. Although they were out of stock for the bow they stated would be best suited for me (regarding the draw etc) they provided me the names of the bows, websites I could read up on about them and were all in all very friendly. The store is huge and very entertaining to walk through. The aquarium in the elevator is very neat! Its a wonderful place to take your kids, and better yet they even offer free activities every now and then. It gets 4 stars because they never have the ammo I need (yes I know about the whole lead thing, but at least other stores give you tips as to when they restock) and it is kind of pricy. I like to fish and I can find some of the exact same bait at Walmart for a much better deal. Their poles are good too, but again, just for a little fishing trip you can't beat walmarts $12 flip reels. Here you can get a rod for cheap, but it doesn't come with a reel. Honestly for my sportsman needs I prefer to shop somewhere else, but I just like to come to this store and look around. Just don't go if animal heads freak you out! read more

Worst customer service in the world. This is a box store and it shows. The staff rarely seems to be around unless you track someone down and even then they barely know the products they are trying to sell. But they will try to get you to sign up for a credit card.... Get a manger involved and the customer service gets even worse. They immediately start defending their employees without even knowing the situation first. So management is just as bad and obviously leading by poor example. It's like pulling teeth to get decent customer service here. Save yourself the headache and go to the many other outdoor stores in Arizona. Especially the locally owned stores. They are always more helpful, nice and "actually" know their products and want to help. You can tell the employees at Bass Pro Shop are just there to collect a paycheck including the management. It's huge like a mall! I like to come here to browse at items, look at the fish in the giant fish tanks, and play the shooting game for 50 cents per person (Top floor in back). They also have the Buck Hunter game arcade style version, and on a big screen. My boyfriend loves that game so we decided to play it on the big screen and had some fun. I also enjoy browsing the ammo and guns every time I visit. The employees I have encountered have always been friendly and helpful. You can easily spend a few hours wandering around because there are so many different sections for sports, hunting, clothing, etc. I had no idea that there was a restaurant in Bass Pro Shop. My first ever trip to Bass was overwhelming. Like walking into a Sportsman's Warehouse that had mated with Dick's Sporting Goods, and then gone on steroids. Bass Pro Shops is an outdoor person's dream. And it's good for the whole family, oddly enough! Once you get inside this massive place, you have an upstairs and downstairs. There is a kid's area, a restaurant with fresh fish, a huge women's section and mens, and areas for fishing and boats and hunting and camping and survival and gear for any occasion. You can look at the giant fish tank, climb up a faux rock side for $3, and just be purely entertained for ages. They have snack foods and jerky and sweets. BBQ grills. Do they have guns? I don't know, probably! They have GPS equipment and water bottles and on and on and on. It was exhausting in a great way. My camping/outdoors needs tend to be more mimimalist oriented so I prefer an REI. But I like it here a lot. I picked up some socks that have a lifetime guarantee, and a nice woolen shirt for almost nothing, and a couple of gifts for the hunter/outdoors people in my life back in Tucson. OMG - no I'm not a pre-teen, I only like to talk like one when I'm so excited about a place. This place is amazing. I never would have considered coming here if my friend had not needed something and promised me lunch if I went with her. I don't fish or hunt or do most outdoorsy things, but this place is so cool. There is a river and fish and a climbing wall and a fudge shop! Yes, a fudge shop; with very good fudge BTW. They have everything one would need for the outdoor life and look forward to going back and spending more time going thru most departments (can't see going thru hunting, but you never know). One and only caveat so far, slow check out. I went there the day after black Friday and was in a long line with only 1 checker. 1. From fishing equipment, hunting, boating, camping, and there is even a restaurant. I would suggest that you go in there and know what you are getting cause if you have no clue to what you are getting you will get a brain malfunction like I did there was so much products I did not know what to get..on the other hand I'll probably go back with a plan to get something.. The only reason I didn't go five star is that their prices run a little high. It is really hard to beat their selection, quality, and service. The staff is always friendly and helpful and surprisingly knowledgeable about their areas of the store. I'm always able to get good answers about product selection. Pretty much anything that I would want for the outdoors is right there in stock so this is also a dangerous place to spend free time. I don't think I've ever left the store without spending more than I expected to! read more

The best place on the planet for Santa Pictures each year. My kids love visiting this place, and I love that they are always welcomed here. Its the kind of place that makes me feel on edge as a parent because my kids can't resist the idea of making a run for it and doing something obnoxious like jumping on the ATV's, climbing inside a display tent, or "riding" a pillow fish...but never once have they gotten a sideways glance from a Bass pro employee. It would seem that even at their most obnoxious, they are welcome here. I like to tease that the displays are a "zombie zoo" which makes my kids say "maaaawaaaaaaaaaam....they're not even real, and zombies aren't even real either"....I have to allow my son to believe that the displays are made of plastic and fake fur or he'll cry. We went to eat at the restaurant inside for lunch. Service was terrible. We had a waitress who was not friendly, she kept going outside to get on her phone. It's great for kids to see the vast array of North American game animals as well as the giant fish tank that kids can press their noses against and be face to face with walleye, bass, crappie, catfish and other species. The restaurant is decent, prices overall are higher than specialty online stores. Convenience is the key to getting your weekend camping, fishing, shooting or hiking gear. I've bought a Tracker fishing boat and a Tahoe run about from Bass Pro and they are quality boats and economical. read more
