Coming here after dinner for a sweet treat for the toddlers left me questioning if we should've just went somewhere else. Usually our go to spot for no frills ice cream for the kids. Asked for a kid scoop with rainbow sprinkles, and an extra cup and spoon. Got charged for a single scoop and rainbow sprinkles were $1.89 and the extra cup and spoon was another extra $.29 total came out to just over $8. Probably could've just went to Walgreens down the block and gotten a pint of ice cream and headed home or maybe I'll have to keep a jar of sprinkles in my purse to shave a little of the cost down! I wouldn't be as annoyed if the service was better, but it just seemed really rushed and that's probably why he got my order incorrect. read more

Not sure why the rating is so low for this Baskin-Robbins. I had a pretty good experience that took place on a weeknight after dinner. The person who helped me was friendly, the scoop of ice cream was a fair portion. One of my favorite flavors, Gold Medal Ribbon, tasted as expected (I get this flavor at most Baskin-Robbins). Baskin Robbins honestly has become a staple if you want very convenient and tasty ice cream. Although they don't have some of the exotic flavors like other locations, every Baskin Robbins that I have ever been to has always stayed true to what they are. This particular location is a bit smaller than most and it's because it's located in the downtown area of San Mateo. But it can holds probably 10 people 12 max comfortably and they do have an assortment of flavors that everyone will enjoy. I came here after an event with some friends and I was able to buy a ton of ice cream for kids and adults and only cost me 20 bucks. Not bad for an evening of ice cream and walking around in a social gathering. The staff here was pretty chill and ultimately very friendly and although I wish I could've gotten their nails to give them a special shout out I do want to say I appreciate your hard work and the fact that they were able to take care of me and my friends. read more

I've always had great service at this BR location. Staff have always been friendly. They make great recommendations especially, when I try new flavors to add to my BR favorites. One of my all time favorite is their "Pralines N Cream." So good, and so buttery. Their mint chocolate chip is another favorite. Very refreshing. I called this location multiple times and nobody answered. I finally went in to talk about my cake options and ordered online. I called again to see if the cake was ready and no answer. Once I picked up the cake I wasn't given any instructions on how long to leave it out before cutting. I called again, no answer. This Baskin-Robbins is on par with any other standard Baskin-Robbins. The location is pretty small but offers all of the flavors offered at other locations. I ordered a scoop of their cookie dough ice cream which is fine enough - your basic vanilla ice cream dotted with a sufficient number of processed cookie dough bites. There is no discernible difference between what I got and the Baskin-Robbins-Robbins pint you can buy in stores. The location of the store is nice as it's situated near other desert places (boba, shaved ice, smoothies, fruit dishes, etc.) so you can satisfy the tastes of everyone in your party. read more

Ordered 2 custom ice cream cakes for my son's birthday party. One Mario race car cake and another Warriors basketball cake. The Warriors cake was supposed to be an edible photo print, but they were not able to print it. The manager called and explained it to me, but said they could decorate it with frosting instead. It turned out so beautiful! Even better than the photo cake. I wish I had a good photo to share, but we cut and ate it too quickly. It was also easy to order, pick up and super delicious! Their mint ice cream was good, but their snickerdoodle ice cream was very bland and didn't have like... any snickerdoodle taste at all. Kinda just like a chocolate ice cream. Little boy (literally, he doesn't look like he could even work) came up to the register and asked what we wanted. Friend and I said, "Eight gift cards." He turns and looks at the girl. She's washing the ice cream bins, but doesn't stop or turn and continues to ask the guy how many are there eying the gift card display holder. He seems clueless and says, "Looks like there's two." The girl asks my friend to sign and explains the gift card numbers and reference to the receipt. This was the part where I thought she was thoughtful and generous. Dropped in here on Sunday night while visiting San Mateo. Hadn't been in a Baskin-Robbins in many years, but I've always preferred their ice cream to cold Stone, which I find rather oily. They were somehow out of both Oreo cookie ice cream and hot fudge sauce, so whoever is ordering their supplies needs to up their game. But the outgoing employee Teresa was so upbeat and friendly that I decided to stay and have a three scoop sundae with caramel sauce. It was delicious, and her banter was a lot of fun. Low ratings? Rude service. There were two girls working and they barely acknowledged us until we called them over. Eventually one of them asked what we wanted and we got a couple of samples and she not seem happy at all to give us samples. We finalyl decided on 1 scoop of birthday cake and she unhappily scooped some in a cone and when we asked for a cup to put it in as well, she charged us 15 cents without even letting us know! First of all, it's only 10 cents for a bag and you're suppose to let the customer know that there is a charge. I know 15 cents is not much, but I didn't appreciate the added price on top of an already overpriced scoop. The ice cream was good, but I would never come back because it seems like they hate ther jobs and it totally kills your ice cream eating vibe. Average shop, nothing noteworthy aside from the fact that it's a Baskin Robin's. We just came it to grab some ice cream quickly, and decided not to stay as the place is small. It took about a minute for the teller to come and greet us, she seemed a bit distracted, maybe because during the lunchtime we were there the place was entirely empty. Nothing extraordinary about the food, the chocolate ice cream was nice and sweet, but nothing more. Would come here again if we had a craving for ice cream in the area. We only went here because the person I was with wanted ice cream and not frozen yoghurt, as there is another place that we saw on our way there that Yelp had higher reviews for. Disappointed with this location! Walked around after having dinner and found ourselves walking into this BR. A couple was sitting down, two other gentlemen waiting at the end of the counter and us. No one greeted nor acknowledged us as we entered. The staff person behind the counter I thought was servicing the two gentlemen but after a few minutes more, she finally asked them what they wanted. I guess she was so engrossed in what she was doing that she didn't notice or see everyone walking by. We finally got served and I have to say, not in a very cheerful manner. "what do you want?...on what kind of cone?" My friend and I looked at each other and were surprised at the behavior we were greeted with. I looked into the freezer to see what I wanted and I saw icicles in the ice cream drums and the freezer was full of ice. You could actually see the melt/refreeze appearance on some of the flavors. I ordered my usual Jamoca Almond Fudge on a regular cone. Got this really funky scoop and the employee proceeded to shape it by using the scoop dipped in their scoop bucket . To make a long story short, after my second taste of the ice cream, it nearly fell off the cone. Definitely would not withstand the cone test! I'll go to my neighborhood parlor instead. If BR corp is reading...you'll need to revamp this location and retrain the staff. I even took photos as I was that disappointed! read more
