2 scoops - tiramisu and spumoni
    Sho R.

I stopped by on a Saturday noon, The place was not too busy. The establishment is around for really long time. I loved their cannolis. I had a chocolate chip and a pistachio cannoli. Both were fresh squeezed and was really good. I also tried 2 scoops gelato - tiramisu and spumoni. Both were excellent flavors.

Finally came in the area to try Romolo's Cannoli! I used to live in Boston and ate Bova's a lot, so after moving back to the Bay Area, I desperately missed cannolis. Found them through someone else's TikTok and decided to go try! They had a seasonal pumpkin filling in addition to the original and chocolate fillings, so I opted to try the original and pumpkin. The worker was very kind and made suggestions for toppings when I asked. I got the original shell with pumpkin filling and toffee topping and an original filling with chocolate chips. The store was super cute too! I was the only one in the store, so it was definitely on the quieter end, but the ambiance of the bakery is so cozy and warming that I'll definitely be back if I'm in the area. Definitely also want to try the tiramisu! Note: parking is a little difficult if you're trying to score along the street Romolo's is on, however surrounding neighborhood might have some available spots!

This is how a cannoli should taste. We stopped in on a Friday evening just to try the cannoli--and wow. We ended up getting two: one traditional, one pistachio. Both were incredible, but the pistachio one stole the show. Perfect shell crunch, creamy filling that wasn't overly sweet, and the pistachios gave it the right nutty balance. The traditional one? Also spot on. Classic, fresh, and satisfying. Service was friendly and helpful, and the whole experience felt warm and inviting. You can tell they care about what they're doing here. Definitely worth a stop if you're anywhere nearby--and honestly, worth a detour if you love a good cannoli.

Forget what you think you know about cannoli. Romolo's is magical, loaded with character, and will ruin you for other version of the pastry. Delicious build-your-combo cannoli - I had two traditional cream in a chocolate-dipped shells, with a mix of pistachio, chocolate chip, and toffee dipped ends. So good. Tiramisu looked great so we brought one home to toss in the freezer for later.

Super fresh, tasty cannoli with great service. I love that each cannoli is made to order, with lots of customizations. My favorite is chocolate dipped shell + original filling + toffee.

These cannoli are the real deal. I grew up in NY with access to amazing cannoli, so I have a high bar when it comes to these tasty treats. I was excited to try Romolo's after reading the positive reviews. This place is about an hour drive for me but it was worth the trip! Highly recommend trying these freshly filled cannoli! Start with the original filling with chocolate chips or pistachio garnish.

Such an amazing story on how this place came to be! The cannolis were great - a bit more on the heavier side than expected! Recommend the original filling with pistachios

Parking can be tough here. They have ice cream and cannoli options here. They fill it as you order it and there's option to buy a kit to fill later? Service was quick, only one employee on a Friday afternoon. Lots of children drawing on the walls, very cute. We got a vanilla ice cream with toffee cannoli and a chocolate dipped chocolate cannoli. It was ok. This was on the way from the airport so we came, I wouldn't go out of my way for this place.

We've been coming to Romolo's Cannoli for years whenever we are in the area. Cute, nostalgic shop where they make the best cannolis and they also have DIY cannoli kits! Also their icecream is pretty darn good. We especially like their strawberry and spumoni. Granted I never liked spumoni at other places BUT you have got to try it here! Spumoni is made up of Strawberry, Pistachio, & Almond icecream with finely minced nuts, cherries/fruit mixed in. It is soooo good! The customer service IS always nice, friendly, and helpful. Today, I stoppednin and Paige was nice, and so sweet. Thank you for your welcoming smile and great attitude! They have a few tables inside to sit at. Come support your local business! They have been around since 1968 proudly serving the San Mateo area and beyond.

Holy Cannoli! I was stoked to discover a local hidden gem in the Bay Area dedicated to cannolis. I've had decent cannolis before, but the best one I ever had was on the East Coast. This shop is cute. You have ice cream and desserts in the fridge. For cannolis, you can choose between a mini or standard size, with options for a plain or chocolate-dipped shell. The fillings include original ricotta, pistachio, and chocolate. I loved that they made the cannoli right in front of me, ensuring it was freshly prepared. With the first bite, you get a satisfying crunch and this is exactly what a good cannoli should have. I did notice it gets a bit soggy if left in the fridge, but that's not a big deal. Overall, I'd definitely come back when I'm craving a cannoli!

Love the cannolis at Romolo's! Bought some for my friends to try. Since they will be devouring the cannolis at a later time, I thought to give them a kit to fill the cannolis themselves, so the cannolis will be eaten fresh. You get a tube of original filling for 6 cannolis. That's the minimum if you want a kit. 6 cannolis for $36. On the day I visited, they had chocolate, original and lemon filling. I also bought 2 cannolis for myself. I ordered the chocolate and original filling with chocolate covered cannoli shells. As for the garnishes, they had cherries, chocolate chips, pistachios, and toffee. I chose toffee and pistachios. Maybe next time I'll be adventurous and choose something different, but that day, I wanted something familiar. Service was friendly and quick. A few other customers were also in line, so there was a bit of a wait, but it was fine. They sell other sweets as well, but I came just for cannolis! The shop is cute, just more of a grab and go spot. I'll be back again when the occasion arises!

This is very nice cute cannoli spot in San Mateo that one must visit if you like Cannolis! My fiance and I were taking a walk around the area and decided to swing by for dessert. This is a mom and pop shop and we got to meet the current owner who said this store has been running for over 50 years! Turns out his grandparents started it. The owner was super duper helpful and we ended up ordering: * cannoli with ricotta filling and pistachio/chocolate topping. This was delicious, fresh, creamy and crunchy * ice cream cannoli - we got this with the vanilla toffee ice cream and gosh, my fiancé finished this before I could say holy cannoli!! You can see how yummy it was. Overall the food was great and as someone who hasn't tried the ice cream cannoli I personally really enjoyed it. Would go back for more!

Stopped by for a sweet treat and the cannoli really hit the spot! There was no wait when I went on a Tuesday afternoon. They have a variety of fillings and topping options, making this a fun make-your-own treat. They also have other desserts like ice cream, Italian cookies, and tiramisu. I got a traditional shell cannoli with the tiramisu filling and pistachio topping. I like that filling inside is not too sweet, and I enjoyed the texture combination of cream and the crunchy shell. Will definitely be coming here to try more flavor combinations!

Ask the Community - Romolo's Cannoli

    Do the Cannolis contain egg?

They contain trace eggs, yes. Probably 0.1 percent of the recipe. Egg white glues the shells closed.

Is the filling made with pasteurized ricotta?

Yes, pasteurized ricotta, the best from New York.

Can I get a cannoli kit shipped? I don't know the exact zip code yet but it's in Fresno, ca.?…

How many cannoli (6 multiples) and what zip code?

How are the cannoli's the next day? Thinking of buying some for the office co-workers but have to get a day ahead as live and work across the SM bridge.

Get the kit and fill the cannoli on the day you want them. No extra cost, quantities of 6

I'm not sure how it managed to happen, given how long they've been around and how many times I've…read moreeaten around 3rd Ave, but I had no idea Dessert Republic even existed, let alone been here. Presumably, never walking down their block of the Main St. alley had a lot to do with it, but who knows how much longer it would've taken if not for my friends suggesting we come here for dinner. Which is kind of ironic, considering the name of this place! While nothing about the outside of Dessert Republic really stands out, the decor inside is great. It may not be all that flashy nor have much of an IG aesthetic, but I like how it has a Hong Kong/Chinatown alley sort of look to it. As for the menu, true to their name, there's no shortage of desserts to choose from, whether it be hot desserts, like glutinous rice balls, sweet tofu, or egg pudding, cold desserts, like mixed fruits, sago, or ice cream sundaes, egg puffs, and crepes. In addition, they also have a bunch of regular food options, from snacks and dim sum items, to rice plates, noodle soups, and even lomo saltado. -- (#A03) POPCORN CHICKEN Not terrible, but not popcorn chicken either. Rather, this felt more like the salt & pepper porkchop dishes I've had in the past - the batter was thick, the chicken was unmarinated, it was seasoned with just salt and pepper, and it was topped with cut peppers instead of crispy basil. -- (#S01) BRAISED BRISKET & WONTON NOODLE SOUP Overall, this was a mixed bag. On the plus side, the bowl was decently loaded, the wontons were plump, and it had chunks of beef tendon, which were tender. On the other, while the noodles were fine, the veggies were way overcooked and the beef was chewy. -- (#M08) SUPER STRAWBERRY - Strawberry Freeze, Aloe Jelly, and Strawberries Topped with Strawberry Ice Cream Undoubtedly, this had a lot of strawberry flavor to it. Even though the strawberry freeze didn't do a ton for me, especially as it melted, I liked how well the aloe jelly, strawberries, and ice cream complemented each other. As far as service goes, I've seen some folks mention running into issues, but I've actually found it to be entirely unremarkable, for better or worse. Each time I've been here, the workers haven't really gone beyond the basics (take orders, bring out dishes, take care of checks, etc.), but I never really expect anything more than that either. Still, they do seem to be relatively friendly and get orders out decently fast, which certainly counts for something. Since I've clearly only had a small handful of what their menu has to offer, there's the distinct possibility (probability?) that I haven't had the best of what Dessert Republic has to offer. However, based on what I've ordered and my friends' egg puffs and sweet tofu that I've tried (both were fine), the desserts here definitely seem to be the safer bet overall. Which is handy since they stay open so late, especially on Friday and Saturday nights (until 1am).

The fried intestines appetizers here are the only fried intestines I've ever liked. They're crispy…read moreon the outside but soft on the inside, and extremely snackable. I love the night market decor too, especially the outdoor buildings facade. It's such a fun treat to look at the signs and the fake shops while you wait for your food.

Granted, my friends probably hyped it up a bit too much while we were waiting in line (I think it was already their second or third time going), but, regardless, I thought it was just okay. Fast forward all of these years later and I have to say - whether it's because my tastes have changed or because I found a flavor that I really liked, this place is so much better than I remember! With so many boba joints and dessert shops nearby, it's pretty easy to overlook Beard Papa's. Being located on the edge of downtown/3rd Ave certainly doesn't help, but, for something quick and convenient (and different), they're a decent option. While the menu may not look all that extensive, it has a fair amount to offer when you consider how you can mix and match your choice from their near dozen cream puffs/eclairs and handful of cream fillings. Add to that the occasional seasonal/featured flavors they'll have and their assortment of lava cakes and cheesecakes and there's plenty to choose from! -- ST. VALENTINE'S RASPBERRY ECLAIR - Raspberry Cream Custard-filled Eclair with White Chocolate Coating and Raspberry Frosting This was a seasonal offering (admittedly, an older one), but if they ever added this to their regular menu, I'd easily get this again. Surprisingly, this actually wasn't super sweet and I loved how well the raspberry and white chocolate flavors complemented each other. -- GREENT TEA ECLAIR WITH VANILLA CUSTARD FILLING Not nearly as good as the St Valentine's Eclair, but way better than the original Vanilla Cream Puff I had before. The frosting had a strong hit of green tea to it, and the custard was fine, but, this time, the cream puff felt a little stale/dry-ish. While I definitely enjoyed Beard Papa's cream puffs/eclairs more than I did before, I can't say I've loved everything about this location. Mainly, the service here has been a little uneven - the first time we stopped in, the guy behind the counter looked really annoyed with having to help us and seemed like he was dying for us to leave (FWIW, we walked in almost an hour before they closed). Our last visit, though, the workers were friendly and super fast, as they handed us our eclair before we could even finish paying. Even though my opinion of Beard Papa's has definitely improved, since I never really crave cream puffs/eclairs and limit my sweets to the occasional scoop(s) of ice cream or milk tea, I can't say Beard Papa's is on the verge of getting into my regular dessert rotation. However, given how much I enjoyed their St. Valentine's Raspberry Eclair, I'm definitely more open to coming back than ever before if/when should the desire come along, especially since they don't have those same long lines anymore! THREE AND A HALF STARS rounded up for now.
