Yay dollar scoop nights (Tuesdays!). This is pretty much the only time I go to BR. I really like their french toast ice cream! YUMMMMMMM and BR ice cream cakes are always the best (and yes I've eaten a lot of ice cream cakes!). I had my first visit at this Baskin- Robbins in 2004 after seeing "Mean Girls" at a movie theater in Davis, one Tuesday night, and I've been a fan ever since then. Back then, there were two Baskin Robbins in town, and the other one was on Anderson street. Both used to do one dollar scoop on Tuesdays, but this one always gave bigger scoops, making our nights just so much fun. While I was in Davis high, and later on in UC Davis, I used to come here for a dollar scoop. Now, I come by in September and October all the way till Decemebr for the German Chocolate Cake, and once in a while I might visit for a friend for Chocolate Fudge or Gold Medal Ribbon. I like this store because it has always stayed consistent. The service is good, and the scoops are generous, and a little bigger than they should be, which is great because a little bit more ice cream always puts a smile on our lips doesn't it? I gave them four stars because on more than one occaision, they've had issues which has signaled to me that they don't follow the clean up process. For example: problems with the hot fudge. The hot fudge container needs to always be checked to make sure it has enough water, to avoid burning the fudge. the pump itself needs to be cleaned nightly with water, and every morning, needs to be put back together to make sure the pump stays clean. on a couple of occaisions, I've seen that the carmel or the hot fudge pumps won't work. Other times, the nuts I have requested on my scoop have had a rancid flavor, which means that instead of throwing away the old nuts, and cleaning the container before adding more crushed nuts to the container, they've just topped the old ones with the new. Visited this Baskin Robbins today to receive my free birthday scoop. The lady that greeted me was rude and disgusting. I asked if I could use the coupon and she said in a hoarse tone "Let me see that *grabs my phone*". Anyway, as I was looking for a flavor to try, the lady coughed. INTO HER HAND! not even her elbow nor did she go wash her hands. I was pretty close to leaving and coming back at a later time but I was already there so I stayed. As I continued looking for samples to try, I notice out of the corner of my eye that the worker was picking her ear or something. Gross... I decided to look at her name tag because I was pretty disgusted and angry. Her name is Shih-Mei, and under her name says ASSISTANT MANAGER. How did that happen?! Maybe she forgot her name tag and used someone else's. I ordered a scoop of Jamoca and it was way sweeter than what I was expecting. I should have just stuck with mint chip!! I think the workers put all their sweetness into the ice cream because they certainly were not. I decided to sit outside and there was someone in the store studying. She needed an outlet to charge her laptop and I guess she asked the workers and the only outlets they had were near the ceiling where the signs were. The studying girl proceeds to stand on the table with her shoes to try to plug her charger in, while the workers have their phones out as it looks like they are taking pictures of her on the table. After a failed attempt, she got off the table and I was expecting someone to wash/wipe the table down. I didn't see anyone wipe it! After this experience, I don't think I'll visit anytime soon, and if I do hopefully "Shih-Mei" not serve me again. read more

It's Baskin Ribbons! What's not to love! My favorite is Blue Medal Ribbon! Located in downtown Davis, surrounded by parking spots. It might be hard to find one if you come during the busy hours though. They have so many flavors, even if you can't digest dairy, they have plenty of sorbet to choose from. Came here for the first time to this location after watching a $5.50 Tuesday night movie. Forgot they have $1.25 kiddie scoops and $1.75 single scoops specials on Tuesdays! I must admit, I worked here in the 90s, but the smell of waffle cones being made in the morning still brings a smile to my face. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing on a wrong day, but my first time at Baskin Robbins did not impress me. - THE ICE CREAM I ordered the Jamoca almond fudge after having a sample of it, having high hopes for it. The ice cream was SO sweet and I couldn't finish even one scoop. I felt like I was eating just an entire snowball of sugar. I ordered the waffle cone because it's typically the best tasting cone. The cone wasn't crunchy and even tasted a bit stale to me. I wonder how long the cones are kept there for... - THE PRICE Two orders of single scoop ice cream with waffle cones came out to be almost $8!!! I was so shocked by how expensive this was. My friends and I only come here for the Tuesday dollar scoop night. There a great selection of ice cream, and we can always taste it before we buy it. I'm pretty simple, I love vanilla ice cream. The staff is very friendly especially with the non-stop customer service on Tuesday nights. There always a line out the door, but people don't have to wait too long. When I was a kid, I would love coming to this place(at a different location)! The staff seemed so bored with their jobs & didn't even greet us when we walked through the door. When I finally got my ice cream, it seemed to melt right away. Which is odd because outside it was pretty cold as well as inside. Maybe their freezers are a little bit off? Possibly. I always upgrade to a party cone (sugar or regular cone dipped in chocolate & covered with sprinkles!) for only $0.79 more. Give it a try, you won't regret it! Got to love $1 scoop Tuesdays! I recently came here to get their $1 scoops. They were busy and I had to wait in one for awhile (but I didn't mind). Once I got there, I ordered the colorful sherbet (forgot its name). It's has a sour hint to it, which is why I liked it. Prior to picking the sherbet flavor, I asked to taste their Easter Egg Hunt flavor. There were pebbles of candy inside but I didn't know that yet. I asked the lady what it was and she shrugged and said "I don't know" in the rudest tone ever (as if someone had just shoved ice cream down her pants). I normally don't have a problem with Baskin Robbins but this lady just ruined it. She was also rude to the other customers. I wouldn't mind coming back. I just hope I don't get her again. This place is not that great. I've been to this establishment multiple times and been helped by multiple employees and none of them are ever friendly, no smiles or anything. Also, the scoops here tend to be a lot smaller than scoops at other locations and the ice cream is usually borderline melting. Overall, I think there are a lot better places in Davis, with much friendlier employees and much better Ice cream, especially for the price. read more

I live in Vacaville and my daughter and I wanted ice cream at around 8pm. We're vegan so we wanted specifically some delicious non-dairy ice cream. Called Vacaville, they only had ice. Went to Dixon and they had began to defrost the freezer early so that type wasn't available and since we had already committed, decided to go to Davis. I'm so glad we did! I've been house sitting in Davis the last 10 days so I've been into this Baskin Robins probably at least 5-6+ times in the last 10. Almost every time I have gone in, I have seen the young man named Carlos. He was always friendly but tonight I ran in and by ran I mean I almost fell into the small bush before the door..literally 2 minutes before close and he was still super friendly. I was impressed because usually people seem inconvenienced right before close even though they are still open.. For that...he gets a gold star! read more

Hard to say much bad about an Ice Cream Shop. Ice Cream is of course bad for you - and so in a health conscious place like Davis their revenue is going to occasionally suffer. They might consider offering Yogurt. Or some type of Gelato. I have not seen any great Gelato in Davis and their might be a niche that could be exploited. All that being said - they make a tasty ice cream cake here. Their customer service is sometimes of the dumb variety - but generally at least quite nice. The Ice cream is in no way gourmet - but yummy none the less. Parking can be a nightmare here as well. If nothing else their proximity to Thai Bistro makes me more apt to stop for a cone. They are very centrally located and generally seem pretty busy. I recommend. Just don't go with gourmet expectations. read more

Every time I have gone in I've been given great service and a great product. But there's usually at least one condescending snatchy customer (Lisa W) who stomp their feet like a 2-year-old at a perceived slight of service because their scoop wasn't big enough, or fast enough, or cold enough. It's ice cream for f's sake. Ever get a cone at Rite-Aid? It's literally running down your hand if you don't attack the perimeter immediately within seconds of receipt.
