We stepped in and were overpowered by the cleanser odor. It was comparable to a gas station bathroom. (Like heavy cleaner over sewage.) I have found several Baskin-Robbinses to be badly maintained in recent years, but this location did appear to have fresh, well chilled ice cream so we proceeded - though I changed my cone because the odor made the air feel toxic. Whoever is deciding how to clean that shop should start fresh with a different approach. The ice cream server was super pleasant and efficient. She was unflappable even as the sunny weekend afternoon started to pack the shop. I had taken note of an earlier review that the owner steals the workers tips and acted accordingly to reward her prompt service hoping to avoid tip theft. I got off from early today, and I had a sweet tooth that's been with me for the whole week, and I think it's because of the dreary weather we've been experiencing. I ordered the double scoop of chocolate chip with the waffle cone. 600 extra calories for today didn't seem so bad, especially since I haven't even had ice cream since last year! This store serves as dual restaurants, and there were 3 workers who asked if I needed help. The place is big, but I got the sense that it lacked some modern amenities. Nostalgia at its best. My parents used to take me to Baskin Robbins all the time when I was young. I always would order a clown cone or get one from The freezer. It appears they are still located in the freezer even in Virginia! My memories are from Pennsylvania for context. LOVE this place!! It's the only Baskin Robbins I've encountered that makes the old-fashion ice cream sodas - best chocolate sodas ever!! Seltzer and extra chocolate sauce blended, then a tbsp. of vanilla ice cream mixed in to make it creamy, then big scoops of their yummy chocolate ice cream, all topped with some extra seltzer. YUM!!! This is a solid ice cream option, and I have to say that their specialty seems to be the good old ice cream cake. The staff at this Baskin-Robbins is amazingly efficient. I've popped in here from time to time since its close and I frequent other shops in the plaza, but tonight's visit was for 31 cent scoop night to benefit the National Junior Firefighter Program. The shop was completely packed but the staff kept everyone moving very quickly and it took less than 10 minutes to get my 3 scoops. I like this particular BR because its still just a BR - and not a BR/Dunkin Donut hybrid. They offer up all the traditional ice cream shop options and services which sometimes the hybrids don't. My scoop of old fashioned butter pecan was staple BR creamy goodness that I have known and loved for years. Scoops 2 & 3 were from BRs "Bright Choices" (read = healthier) flavors. The Premium Churned Light Raspberry Chip Ice Cream had a good strong berry flavor and the ice cream was smooth. Also had the Premium Churned Reduced-Fat, No Sugar Added Caramel Turtle Truffle - I WILL DEFINITELY BE GETTING THIS ONE AGAIN! I'm amazed at the quality of both these flavors. They lacked the odd aftertaste that healthier options often have and if I hadn't seen the no sugar added label on the one - I never would have believed it. I don't indulge in ice cream often, and when I do I certainly don't have good nutrition forefront in my mind. But it is refreshing to find a quality product that I would choose to have again simply on the quality of the flavor. They used to have such great service- Tonight I entered the store and there were two teenage girls who cursed when we walked in even though there was 40 minutes until closing. Baskin Robbins is a good place to satisfy your ice cream cravings. You can get a double scoop for $4.99, which isn't exactly cheap, but hey, the ice cream is high quality. Apparently you can get a free waffle cone with 2 scoops, but I prefer mine in a cup. The service is pretty friendly and efficient, but the size of the scoops can vary. They have a good selection of ice cream pints to take home, ice cream pies and cakes, ice cream cake bites (dying to try those!), and my favorite - ice cream clown cones! As a kid, nothing was better than getting one of those. If you are a BR ice cream lover like me, make sure to sign up on their website and you can get a free scoop for your birthday :). My recommendation is to try the world class chocolate ice cream and the chocolate oreo ice cream - heaven! I had been given a gift card for my birthday and I also had a coupon-buy one sundae get the second 1/2 price. They charged me the full amount on the gift card, said there was nothing else they could do-would not let me use the coupon. I asked them to cancel that and start over, they said they could not. I asked them why they didn't tell me before they rang up the order that I couldn't use a coupon with a gift card and they just shrugged. Plus, the young man was very rude. He never said he was sorry. Took 30-45 minutes to get 1 scoop of ice cream! Yes, it was delicious, but definitely not worth the wait! The store was also pretty dirty (cakes were quickly placed and were falling).
