There aren't many places open in the area on Sunday, but I saw this place had coffee and pastries…read moreso we decided to give it a try. It was pretty busy inside, but after a bit we were able to order. I ordered an iced soy latte with a pump of almond. Also a regular iced latte. I also ordered a few pastries, the Kouign Amann, Almond Croissant, and Goat Cheese and Herb croissant. They unfortunately don't heat up any pastries which I wish they would because I do think it would make the pastries better. The Kouign was my favorite. It was crunchy and delicious and sweet, I would get again. The goat cheese croissant was pretty good but nothing too special. As for the Almond Croissant, I was very disappointed. It had hardly any almond filling, and there was no almond flavor. I wish they would put slivered almonds on it but it was completely lacking. I would skip the almond croissant completely. As for the coffee, I got a regular iced latte and a Soy almond latte. The coffee was not good at all and it makes me sad to say but after a few sips... I had to throw it away! I felt like it threw away $7. It was very watery and the syrup tasted off. This is usually my go-to at other shops but I just couldn't drink this at all. Overall it was cool to try a pastry or two but I wouldn't make another trip here.

The 1st time I went, not long after I moved here, I got a burger at lunch time. I remember thinking it was meh. The meat was dry and the bun was stale. That's about all I remember. 2nd time, I got their version of Eggs Benedict. The eggs were overcooked (jammy-to-dry yolks) and the cheese sauce was terrible. 3rd time was the salmon filet, which was significantly undercooked in the middle. 4th time, I got the Country Biscuit Breakfast: gravy was terribly salty and the scrambled eggs were rubber. Tonight, it was the corned beef hash with two poached eggs and a Belgian waffle: the hash was more green pepper than meat or potatoes, the "poached" eggs were white hockey pucks with completely solid yolks and the Belgian waffle was a fluffy waffle-shaped pancake, no crispness on the outside at all. The waitstaff are fantastic and extremely nice. The setting is ... dated, but serviceable. The place is still better than the truly awful Denny's in town. I really hate ripping the place because the folks are so nice. I guess I'll sum it up this way: I've never had a truly bad meal at Clarette's, but I've never had a truly good meal there, either.

I was bicycling around town in the 100 degree heat and contemplating what temperature a brain would actually steam cook at when I saw a sign in a dingy strip-mall next to a supermarket that said "Pineapple Pete's Shaved Ice". I'm going to level with you, it doesn't look like much on the outside, about as close to a zero on curb appeal as it gets. However, it sounded a lot better than heat stroke, so I locked up my trusty stallion of a bicycle and wandered over, only to see to my dismay that there was a "Closed" sign on the door. I started to turn away in despair when a man walked through the door holding a styrofoam cup and said "Hey, they are actually open!" Turns out that guardian angels are real and mine is in his mid-40s with a respectable pot belly and a love of sugared ice. That seems about right. From the inside Pineapple Pete's is a surf oasis that carries off its Hawaii theme quite well. Pleasant decor, fun signs, picnic table seating. There are too many options, but I quickly settled on a rootbeer float shaved ice, that came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the middle. A medium was more than enough for me, and I'm not what you would call a dainty eater. I could go on, but what is the point? If you are in Walla Walla and you like snowcones this is the place you should be, hands down. If you aren't in Walla Walla and/or you don't like snow cones then I don't know what to tell you, I'm not sure why you started reading this review, let alone finished it. You need better time management skills! Pro-tip: Don't believe their sign, if they say they are closed try the door anyhow.

It was fresh grapefruit juice which was delicious. Also got started with Seared Ahi. The mango salsa was refreshing and I loved the plantain chips that came with it! The sauce, bok choy, everything! I still am thinking about this dish days later. The chicken Marsala was also so delicious, I really enjoyed the chicken and it was perfectly seasoned and cooked, and I loved the polenta paired with it. All the dishes were so delicious! I would return here again and have the same dishes, but I can't wait to try their other dishes they offer. It's one of the best restaurants I've ever been to! We particularly enjoyed the Ahi which was full of fresh salsa and plantains, the subtle Black Sea salt was the perfect touch. The pulpo or octopus was also really well executed and had a nice fresh green garnish with the perfect amount of parsley. As a side note the owner and chef was onsite, clearly keeping an eye on both the back AND front of house during the meal. You just don't see that commitment often, Thanks Jose!
