After a trip to Maui, we've been on the hunt for actual Hawaiian shaved ice ever since. This is as close as it gets in Washington. It's the best. A sno cap and scoop of ice cream are musts. So refreshing on a hot day.

I was in Walla Walla for the Gentlemen of the Road music festival, but arrived a day early to get the lay of the land. I was bicycling around town in the 100 degree heat and contemplating what temperature a brain would actually steam cook at when I saw a sign in a dingy strip-mall next to a supermarket that said "Pineapple Pete's Shaved Ice". I'm going to level with you, it doesn't look like much on the outside, about as close to a zero on curb appeal as it gets. However, it sounded a lot better than heat stroke, so I locked up my trusty stallion of a bicycle and wandered over, only to see to my dismay that there was a "Closed" sign on the door. I started to turn away in despair when a man walked through the door holding a styrofoam cup and said "Hey, they are actually open!" Turns out that guardian angels are real and mine is in his mid-40s with a respectable pot belly and a love of sugared ice. That seems about right. From the inside Pineapple Pete's is a surf oasis that carries off its Hawaii theme quite well. Pleasant decor, fun signs, picnic table seating. There are too many options, but I quickly settled on a rootbeer float shaved ice, that came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the middle. A medium was more than enough for me, and I'm not what you would call a dainty eater. I could go on, but what is the point? If you are in Walla Walla and you like snowcones this is the place you should be, hands down. If you aren't in Walla Walla and/or you don't like snow cones then I don't know what to tell you, I'm not sure why you started reading this review, let alone finished it. You need better time management skills! Pro-tip: Don't believe their sign, if they say they are closed try the door anyhow.

Literally the best shaved ice! The guys who work here are super nice and friendly! The punch card has a pineapple on it and it's super cute. They've got shuffleboard and connect 4 and board games free to play while you hang too! The menu is awesome. Try the dragon's milk. It's the best

They may have moved from College Place, but it's sure worth the drive to Walla Walla. They're right next to Loney's grocery store. Best shaved ice anywhere except Maui.

Tons of flavors to choose from!

This is probably the best shaved ice I have ever had. The people working there are very nice and chatty.

We ordered the IMUA Mix Plate three choices: double poke (shoyu) and breaded teriyaki beef, Loco Moco, Chicken Katsu, & Kalua Poutine. Everything we tried was 'Ono (in Hawaiian means "delicious" or "tasty"). My wife and I were pleasantly surprised how good the breaded teriyaki beef tasted, highly recommended! All the kids liked a little bit of everything. Francesco (5) loved the Kalua Poutine and ate most of it. Kepha (6) ate a bit of everything and made sure there was no leftovers (mopped da plate clean). Lily (8) loved her loco moco and was told she had to share with here brothers, lol. Wife and I enjoyed the breaded teriyaki beef and the katsu. The Katsu sauce was just like the back home style/japanese style. I gotta admit looking at the poke I had my doubts, but after tasting it, "SHE GO" this poke would guarentee sellout back in Hawaii, the flavor of the poke is just like Hawaii but Imua's unique way. We also had 3 shave ice ube, mango, and blue vanilla, so far best shave ice I've tasted in the mainland. Imua's is authentic Local Style Hawaiian Food and the quality is undeniably top notch, this is the first restaurant in the mainland that I've been to where all of the food taste like back home (Hawai'i) and all the food taste good! There wasn't a dish where I was like only this one or these two taste good, noo, all the food tasted 'ONO, broke da mouth kine good food! If you missing the taste of the (Hawaiian) Island this is the place to go!

I could not be happier with my experience at Imua! I called ahead of time to ask some questions…read moreabout their gluten-free options. They were so kind, explaining the precautions they take to accommodate their customers with Celiac (including a dedicated gluten-free fryer for their fries, only having gluten-free soy sauce in house, and changing gloves/utensils to reduce the risk of cross contamination). I felt very safe eating here and great afterward (no symptoms of having gluten). The food was incredible and full of flavor. This will definitely be a staple for me when visiting the area.
