BEWARE! This guy is a joke. The sad part is, we didn't choose Basinger on a whim. We met with FIVE auctioneers to auction a property and contents for us. Basinger seemed very sincere and knowledgeable, and was offering competitive rates, along with online selling which we figured would help drive the prices up. Obviously, nothing is guaranteed when you go the auction route, and we're certainly not here complaining that "we didn't make money." No, this man is a liar. I'd go so far as to call him a fraud.
To begin, we paid him up front for advertising and for them to go through the building to 1) clean out the clutter, and 2) get items together that would be good to sell. This is all documented in a contract. Yet, he tried to then charge us more for labor after the fact. Labor that he created. He didn't want to stay in the building and sort through items. So he rented a truck and took the things off property to go through ($85/per hr for, supposedly, 6.5 hrs, plus labor). That was a cost he should have eaten. It's not my problem he didn't want to go through items on site, like he was supposed to. No, I don't really care that it's cold and you're in a garage - not my problem. Especially after we had to wait WEEKS for them to start, and had he started when he said he was going to, it would have been plenty warm for them to be comfortable. Instead, he made excuse after excuse of why they hadn't started. Even as the the auction was going to start within a week, he had yet to take any pictures of the building OR items. In fact, he never took pictures of the inside of the building at all, which was the point of cleaning it out.
Oh, and while they were cleaning, they decided to open a garage door, without permission, and proceeded to break it. I had those breakers turned off so no one would use certain power throughout the building. Without permission, he turned breakers on (never turned them off, and left lights running 24/7), and then broke my door. They weren't even working in that garage. They were only to be in the other one. So there was absolutely no reason for them to even open it. But, of course, he's not going to pay for the damage he caused.
The first contents were auctioned. Then he never paid us. The contents he took off property to go through? It took him MONTHS to even go through it and auction those off. Still was never paid for the first contents auction. Second auction closes. It then took over a month before we were finally paid for both auctions. (Which, he messed the checks up and I had to wait for a reissue on top of that.)
Now, for the house. We ended up making a deal with someone for the property. I signed paperwork agreeing to the deal and for paperwork to be sent to the title company. I hadn't even signed official transfer documents yet, and the buyer showed up at the property with a dump-truck and parked it back end to the front door. What does that have to do with Basinger? Well, it doesn't - it's a tasteless move on the part of the buyer. Except for the part where the front door was open. The only other person with a key? Basinger. I had just checked on the property about a week and half prior. I always lock the door - I have to hip-check it to make sure it actually locks cause it's finicky. I didn't forget. All just circumstantial, right? Except for when I called the cops because I wasn't having the guy's truck on my property (it's not his yet and he could have just asked), and when the cop called Basinger in front of me to get the buyer's number, Basinger said he didn't have a key, he never had a key. So, apparently, I didn't make him a copy and he wasn't using it all that time to get in and out of the property. Right. Even the officer didn't buy it, but there's nothing she can do about any of it, save for getting the guy to move his truck.
This whole experience was an absolute NIGHTMARE. He always had excuses for why things weren't getting done, he tried to talk his way around things at every turn, and my mother and I caught him in several lies over this, oh, seven or so month long process. He's a smooth-talker and knows how to manipulate. In the end, he's nothing but another con.
