They charged me double ($400) for a simple job which only took 20 minutes. When I called to…read morecomplain about being overcharged, they insulted and ridiculed me. The fact is that there is only one competent mechanic there, and they overcharge to cover the cost of paying 4 additional employees who don't do anything.

Horrors, driving into Durango on a recent Saturday afternoon I noticed the red light on the…read moretemperature gauge on my vintage Porsche Boxster flashing. No indication of overheating, just the annoying flash. I planned to stay two nights in Durango before heading out first thing Monday morning on the next leg of my return trip to North Carolina. Instead, plans changed. Finding someone to troubleshoot and possibly repair a Porsche in Durango is no easy task. My third stop referred me to Village Auto Care. There I met Danny Petrie who brings honor to the thankless job of managing a repair shop. Danny moved heaven and earth and got the Boxster on the rack where the shop's Porsche expert Jed determined that my water pump failed the pressure test. Soon the part was ordered from who knows where, probably Albuquerque, and then the waiting began. Tuesday Danny offered to put the car back on the rack and remove the malfunctioning water pump, reducing the time to finish the repair on Wednesday. I can't imagine another shop in the world that would make that offer. Sure enough, the part arrived at noon on Wednesday, and I was on my way around 4 PM. Jed gave me the remaining coolant and showed me how to add it in case his bleeding job was less than perfect. Not to worry, Jed aced the fix and I rolled into Amarillo around midnight and was back home in Pinehurst Friday night so I could take my daughter to the airport Saturday morning. My regular repairman told me that he insists that the vehicle remain in the shop overnight after a water pump replacement to make sure the system is bled properly. Many thanks to Danny and Jed for the way they responded to my emergency and their quality work getting me back on the road. If you find yourself dealing with any issues with virtually any make and model car while in the Durango area, don't hesitate to stop into Village Auto Care and place your fate in Danny's hands.
