Amazing desserts! The German chocolate cake was the best I ever had and the cake was very heavy! The only bad thing when you pay that much for a cake they should at least spell the birthday boys name right! First time...very busy, but excellent food. We ordered two kids pizzas, they are both big enough for adults, come with a drink, and are only $5. I had the Reuben panini and my wife had the chicken dijon panini. Both were excellent as were the pasta side salads. One of the kids' pizzas was a little burned on the bottom, so we sent it back and they brought another with no fuss. Fed a family of four for less than $40...we'll definitely be back! Get there early on Fri/Sat evenings if you want a place to sit while you eat. read more

I ordered a birthday cake for my daughter: italian rum cake with raspberry moose. Well, they did beyond better than i could have asked for! The cake was covered in REAL whip cream and sliced almonds, like it should be. It was amazing!!! My 9year old loved it, and so did everyone else. The lemon cake was fantastic with the lemon custard, and chocolate rum custard with fresh raspberries! We are pretty snobby about our food and they surprised us. By far the friendliest owners I have ever run into, they stayed open a few minutes after close for my wife and I to order take out. They told us about their opening of Orofino downtown (which is also AMAZING), and talked to us about their homeland and their passions. Food is great, especially the desserts, we go often but we like the dine in waitress experience of other places or else we'd go more often but can see how this fast casual concept can work for the type of crowd. I am a regular here for two or more years. Food is always great. Dessert an gelato bar are on point. However, last weekend we paid a visit and the place seemed to be under new management. No one seemed to know what was going on. Food took an extremely long time to come out with no explanation. My sandwich had way too much mustard. Everything else was good. I've eaten here twice & both times left more to be desired. First time, I got the Italian sandwich-- not terrible, but very, very bland. I decided they deserved another shot. Next time, I got the Cuban, which was the absolute worst Cuban I've ever had. It didn't even taste like the real thing. Bland this time as well, and basically bone-dry. Both times I got the Greek salad, which was the redeeming factor, but ridiculously priced for how much they actually give you. I probably won't come back again. read more

Basilico's is one of those places that just keeps getting better and better. They had a good, if small, deli before, but since the expansion, it's been wonderful. Now there are plenty of places to sit, and pretty much everything I've ever ordered here has been fantastic. The sandwiches are the real stars of the show (I particularly like the Cuban, the Reuben and the veggie Garden of Eating sandwiches), but the soups, calzones and salads have all been good as well. Stopped in for lunch when we had family visiting and I was craving pasta. I decided to try the special that day--linguine with chicken and broccoli in a garlic wine sauce. It was....eh. The pasta was cooked a little TOO al dente for my taste, and it was, well, pretty bland. The sauce was very runny, just liquid, like it didn't reduce at all, and it desperately needed salt. The side salad served with it was good, nice and fresh with a healthy serving of toppings. And the garlic bread was ok. Service was average, although I didn't expect to be waited on because it's an "order at the counter and seat yourself" place. All in all, I won't go out of my way to come back, but I would consider trying it again with the hope I order something better. read more

I loved this place!! It's laid back and relaxed but not when it comes to the food. We got a pizza with tomatoes, mozzarella and fresh basil. It was one of the best pizzas I've ever had. Better than anything else in the area. And dessert...oh wow. Their dessert case is amazing. I got tirimisu. It's the best in Fredericksburg by far. Ive had tirimisu at every establishment in Fredericksburg and that was the best. My boyfriend got a cannoli and it was perfect. Not so rich you couldn't finish it and so delicious you wouldn't think about finishing it. Next time I'm going for the gelato. I'll be going back soon for sure. read more

Be warned: their desserts are on display and you will have a hard time not giving in to your sweet tooth! Basilico's is a great casual restaurant. Their food is decent and haven't had any issues with anything I've ordered. My favorites include the greek salad, the chicken pesto Panini and their calzones. I won't even start with the desserts, because everyone one I've tried has been awesome. My gripes: The ordering/table delivery process. This is more of any issue when they are busy, as you wait in a long line to order (I become irrationally irritated when I've waited for 15 minutes in the person in front of me still can't decide what to get! Or the lady that is in front of you and just before she orders here 7 other friends join her in line, jumping in front of me, with no clue as to what they want to eat. Come on now, I just want to eat my dinner so I can get my gelato on! Rant over..). I've also had an issue on a busy night where half of our order was missing and we weren't sure if it was coming out or not (you don't have an assigned waiter/waitress) and then it took another half an hour to get the rest of the food. They have great customer service, and awesome food, but their desserts are to die for! They have so many things to choose from, cakes, gelato, cannoli's, and much more. I love this place! I'd lived within walking distance for years before trying it, and I was missing out! I haven't tried their desserts yet aside from the gelato (which is A+), but they have a crazy selection and all of it looks beautiful. The service is pretty great (any hint of slowness is usually explained by the number of people inside), everyone seems friendly, and the couple dishes I've tried turned out excellent. I love the mac and cheese with mushrooms! When it gets warm, I can't wait to walk my dog here and enjoy the ample outside seating. I think the only issue I've ever had with them was ordering takeout once, and got home to find out they'd put meat sauce on my baked ziti instead of red sauce (making it inedible for me since I don't eat meat, but my roommate ate it and said it was fantastic). Either I didn't specify well enough, or it was a simple mistake. Oh well! Definitely give this place a try :) read more

Family stopped by here on a road trip and didn't regret it. Everyone was very pleased with their meal; personally I very much enjoyed their margarita panini that had ample amounts of excellent prosciutto, layered on top of slabs of fresh mozzarella, basil, and tomato. It is clear that they use authentic fresh ingredients, and it was truly all i ever want from a panini. Other family members were content with their meals, especially the marinated chicken panini with smoked bacon.
