Basic City is such a great neighborhood haunt in Manchester. Owners Sara and Curtis are great people, so it's easy to want to support them! They offer a nice variety of beers and non-alcoholic options, and they're starting to include guest taps, which is great. I prefer their sours. They also offer a nice private room that can be used for events or markets. I've attended more than a few events at BCB over the years since they took over the space and they've all been well put together. Prices are affordable and the vibes are good. Came here for a trivia night recently and it was a nice brewery. It's nice to be able to step away from the usual Scott's Addition options for a bit, particularly when you can find a parking place for a change! Two of my friends and I were glad to give this place a try and see how tough their trivia night was (spoiler: it was tough, but we managed to get third place, and I was very little help since many questions were movie-related). Got to enjoy a great stout they had on draft, and I saw plenty of beverage options there to keep pretty much anyone happy. The food they have there (pizza) looks quite good but is a bit rich for my blood for a personal-size pizza. Their seating is quite interesting, with most tables being different heights, designs, and seating capacities, which can be charming or frustrating depending on your needs. I rather liked it, as it could lead to you having a "favorite" table, which is fun. I mentioned it before and some people think it isn't important, but I HATE struggling to find parking. That's not a problem at Basic City Beer, as they have a private lot that has lots of spaces. For me, that's a big selling point, though if you're riding with someone else maybe it's not a big deal for you. Enjoyed my visit here and would be glad to return again! Overall: 4.0 stars ---- Pros: - Great draft beer selection, plenty of options there. - Charming interior with varied seating. - LOTS of parking, absolutely love that. - Didn't have too many service interactions but they seemed nice. The service was great! Friendly and informative bar tender. I appreciate his composure during my questions about the different brewery items I saw. It's like an adult history. I enjoyed the local flavor of chips and the meeting of new friends. There is an area for shows( which I attended). There was plenty of table space, dance room, and a beer pong table. This area was perfect for this Saturday night event. The sound system gave each artist life with no seen difficulties. The parking outside was sufficient out front and there was also off street parking as well. I love the transformation of a old warehouse into businesses. N&W Porter- you get the coffee notes in the smell but not too much in the taste. Definitely a Roasted flavor but not as dark as anticipated. Pretty good Porter. I'm always happy to find another casual place to spend time with friends and enjoy a good beer. Basic City Beer definitely fits the bill! Tucked away in Manchester, the brewery is large with a taproom and outdoor patio with lots of seating on one side and a game room on the other. There is a decent amount of private parking behind the building as well as free street parking on the surrounding blocks. The atmosphere is very laid back and it was relatively quiet when I visited the taproom on a slow Saturday afternoon. There were small groups of friends like my own hanging out and chatting, and there were even dogs allowed inside. I loved the very industrial, almost steampunk-esque decor. The exposed brick walls and cement floors show the history of the building, and there are old pieces of machinery and gears, mannequins, abstract art, and other quirky, sculptural objects that give the space character. The staff is friendly, down-to-earth, and helpful when deciding on what beer you want. I've tried their DIPA, a lager, and a locally brewed coffee-infused stout and all were really enjoyable and reasonably priced. I will definitely be back. read more

We took our dogs to the farmers market and then looked for a few places after but it was just scorching out. Basic city welcomes in your pups with open arms (and treats!) and they are allowed to be inside with you! We were having our house worked on and had to be out for 4 hours with the dogs another night and thought what better place to go so we head back got some good beer! The Tart Up is definitely my favorite at the moment but I will happily try all the new one they come out with. We enjoyed trivia, charcuterie and a ricotta and mushroom pizza! Highly recommend! Basic City Beer is a HUGE brewery in Manchester close to the water and train tracks in the middle of modern development. There's parking in the front. Once you walk in, you'll see the main bar. To the left are games like jenga, couches, TVs, and seating. To the right is a hallway that leads you to a giant game room with air hockey, fussball, ping pong, etc. (most require quarters to play). The beer itself is good. It's mainly IPAs and double IPAs, but all preferences should be able to find a beer for them. The beer is also pretty affordable too. The restroom is large with a raised toilet and i didn't notice any significant floor transitions for accessibility. He's been here before so we ordered a pizza and quickly headed over to the ping pong tables hidden in the back. They do have some paddles available (not pro grade or anything, just for casual play - bring your own if you have some) and Jenga. From the entrance, you wouldn't know that there's a hidden play room in the back, so I do encourage you to check it out if you've been here before. A good place for friends and families too - if you have kids. We did come on a Thursday, so I can't recommend what days to come, however, I would assume they'd be more busier on weekends. This place recently opened next to the Rivers Edge apartments and Legends Brewing in Southside, Manchester neighborhood. In the space that was formerly Twisted Ales in an old brick warehouse building that reflects the industrial vibe in this neighborhood. I met Skyler who is one of the Staff and part of the local start-up team from their home base in Waynesboro, Va. They have a nice selection of beers and rather go with the standard test flight I dove right in and took Skyler's recommendation of the Bask Double IPA. My first impression, wow, great first taste with excellent citrus flavor and aroma it was 16 ounces of goodness. We arrived on a Friday afternoon and had plenty of parking available. Upon walking in it has a good vibe, lots of exposed brick with couches and tables set up throughout. It was another Wednesday night and I was finishing up work. My wife has been binge watching Friends for the first time and the prospect of going home only to watch her laugh hysterically as Ross frantically screams at Rachel that they were "On a break" loomed over me. I knew I needed to come up with an activity and quick. I began looking up trivia and saw that Basic City Beer had trivia from 7-9 which is that sweet spot of getting done at the perfect time so i could be home and asleep at a reasonable hour. Despite Basic City Beer being out in Manchester, it was not a bad drive at all. They have a full parking lot with plenty of spots. After exiting my car I walked up to the very large barn style door and pulled with all of my might only to realize that it was not in fact the main door and wasn't intended to be opened. After trying this several other times I was finally able to locate the main door (located in the center). Upon entry, I saw it was a good sized space with some industrial equipment still inside from it's previous life as a factory. There were board games available, TVs, couches, and plenty of tables. They had a good beer selection and I ultimately chose a dark raspberry beer that was delicious. The raspberry was not overpowering in the slightest and really accented the chocolate notes and other flavors. After grabbing my beer I began to explore a little bit and walked into one of the adjoining rooms to find an arcade with pinball machines, ping pong, pool, cornhole, skeeball, among various other arcade games and a large projection screen tv. Ping pong was free to play and the other games were very affordable. While they did not offer food while I was there, they were opening up an mexican restaurant in the space that should currently be serving food and I am anxious to try it. My only complaint was that there was only 1 bathroom and I can imagine that it may get a line as it gets more crowded. I will definitely be going back read more

There is also really awesome decor/art everywhere and has an 'industrial' feel. Also HOPS kitchen is outside in the food truck and the food is AMAZING! I've only had the veggie dumplings and veggie burger with beer cheese and chips so far, but it is scrumptious! This is one of the larger breweries in Richmond with some unique decor. There is a decent amount of parking to accommodate the weekend crowds. The staff is friendly and willing to let you taste a brew before purchasing. One side of the brewery is a large game room, and the other side is the taproom to enjoy a brew and conversation. The beer was tasty, and there was a couple I'd have a full pour. Our Daily Pils and Lithia were my favorites. I'll be returning in the future. I was already a fan of Basic City before they moved across the street from me in the space that has already housed the original location of Blue Bee Cider and more recently Twisted Ales. It's a Waynesboro staple that I'm glad has found a second home in RVA! The Bask DIPA is my favorite, but I also really enjoy the Aragon Coffee Porter. They've definitely improved on the space from when it was Twisted Ales and in my opinion the beer is overall better than Legend (though I still love Legend). They've expanded the tasting room so there is ample seating. They have their own food truck, which we were really fans of- overpriced for what it is. read more

I stopped by this place on my way home from work on a Friday and it was close to closing time. The decor looks like an old factory of sorts but it had its own flavor that I like. I asked them if it was part of an old factory and they said it was actually brought in as decor. I order a flight and I was pleasantly surprised. I'm a fan of wit beers and lagers. I ordered lady in red, old Manchester ale, our daily pils, and the lady with mango. The lady with mango was my absolute favorite. I will definitely order that the next time I go! Love having this brewery within walking distance of my apartment. It's a huge space with plenty of tables and they even have a few seats on the patio out front. Staff was wonderful and attentive, but it wasn't very crowded at the time I was there. They said it can go from empty to bursting with crowds in a 15 min span. Plenty of nice space, lots of tables, some TVs, there's an entire other game room with ping/pong and billiard tables and such. They host some events, trivia night and that's cool.
