Phil is a lifesaver. In a city where most places are appointment only, this is somewhere you can rely on a great cut as a walk-in. Got a cut from one of their newer guys,Kevin, last week and was completely satisfied with both the conversation and how my cut turned out. I'm very particular with my hair and he cut it exactly the way I wanted it, a mid bald fade with some slight adjustments that most barbers tend to ignore when I ask for: slight flare on my left side/back side so my longer top doesn't just stick out awkwardly. I had a great experience my first time here! I made an appointment initially with Floyd's on Harbor and left after walking in. The customers and workers at Floyd's seemed bored and the haircuts didn't look cool or progressive. I yelped another shop and found Basic Barber. I could tell walking in it'd be a good haircut. The store has a cool remodel and looks clean and fresh. It was a Thursday night and the four chairs were full. Their was one guy waiting in front of me. The line moved quickly. The prices are way more affordable than Floyd's and he haircut was great! Same gave me a great fade and listened to all my wants for the haircut. Basic barber is a great name because Kevin is one of the most basic guys you'll ever meet. I trust Kevin w my hair and go to him every two weeks. Try not to be too distracted by his muscles when he's cutting your hair, but don't fret, you'll always leave with a fresh clean cut as clean as a newborn babys bottom. So one of the Barbie Barbers-- Priscilla Garcia, is my absolute favorite! Fell in love with her style since day one. I've been following her since I met her during her days at the Paul Mitchell School in Costa Mesa . She was the only one who knew how to cut my fauxhawk perfectly! I've been with her since 2009 or so, 5+ years! Living in Irvine, I even drove to Long Beach when she worked at a prestigious beauty salon near the beach. I have been coming here per recommendation of an acquaintance of mine for months now. Been loyal ever since. I judge barbershops primarily by a mix of quality of cut, atmosphere/ambience, price, and location. I've tried plenty of places while in OC - the late Salon loxy @ DJ, multiple Floyd's 99 locations, multiple 18|8 locations, Danckuts, you name it. Yet I can genuinely say, nothing compares to the overall experience here. Only Crowns in Huntington Beach might hold a blade (no pun intended) to the fades they do here, but it's just so inconveniently far away. Tam & Phil are two of the most attentive barbers I've ever had the privilege of getting a haircut from, and it's always great conversation before I even sit in the chair! Amazing price for the service compared to the greater OC area, and I'm always in & out within an hour. There aren't appointments or anything, but they always have more than one person cutting and the wait is never more than 2-3 people, even during the busiest times. Plenty of parking in a huge lot, super safe location. Don't come right before they're about to close up shop for the day! read more

I've been going to TAM for 5+ years now. He was an employee at a very reputable barber shop and I would always remember telling him he needs to open up his own shop and thats exactly what he did! We went here on a whim since yelp had good reviews. We got Phil who was super kind and precise. My son loves his haircut and Phil was so nice he even changed the channel on the TV and put on Cartoon Network to keep my son entertained. I have to say that my husband is super picky when it comes to hair cuts for our son but since he can't take him and I have to all the time, he is so critical every time He sees him in person. Well, today was the first ever where my husband wasn't criticizing the cut at all! He said the fade looks really good and clean. That's what I liked about Phil. He took his time! First time here, stopped in based on the reviews. 430pm Sunday. Standard men's haircut = $15. Haircut takes about one hour. Shop is extremely warm, poor ventilation, TONS of hair all over the floor, generally a wait if you are just walking in. I asked for a faux-hawk with '1' on the sides and tapered into a '3' at the top. I asked that the front NOT be squared off, but that it would be rounded. I explained everything to the barber and he said he understood. Super disappointing. He ended up cutting some kind of military style flat top. I was sweating in the chair so I left and finished it up at home. 2 stars for affordable and friendly. read more

Want to give a shout out to the person who instead of taking the 1/2 an inch off the top of my fourteen year old's head as asked, left him with maybe 1/2 an inch of hair total. Now he looks like he's entering the Marine Corp. not a bad look except not at all what he asked for. On top of it this was his haircut for his first high school dance and now he feels like crap. When you're a kid and you have a lot of nerves about your appearance, these things mean a lot. My normal barbershop was closed, so I tried this place out. Quality of the haircut was 2 stars. The barber gave me a pretty weak fade - looked like what I could do at home. Honestly, wasn't even a fade, just looks like a 1 all the way up the side. Had to ask him three separate times to clean up my side part because there were some shorter hairs sticking out, but after all that, I still had more that he didn't clean up. Back was a bit uneven as well. Eventually got tired of asking for adjustments and just sucked it up and thought on to the next one. Cut was $18-20, so it's not expensive. If you're not picky about your hair, it's a decent place that's clean and convenient, but don't expect anything great in terms of quality. read more

Tam's my go to guy for a couple years now. Wouldn't go to anyone else. He hooks up the cleanest fades but also does a lot of other cuts, shaves, trims, and line ups. He's also great with kids haircuts as well! Unlike some other barbers, he actually went to barber school so take that for whatever its worth. If I could give 1.5 I would. The "owner" or "manager" recommended Vince who was "good with beard trims". When I show up Vince (an older gentleman) had no idea I needed a beard trim and wasn't prepared. He was talking about shaving my whole beard but I just wanted a trim. He eventually gives me a C- beard trim with the lines being so inequivalent it hurt to see. I told him and he sharpened it up a little but the damage was already done. I purchased a Groupon to try a new barber shop. I went in for a TRIM(!) because I have to get photos take for my job in a few days. I went in with my hair styled the way I always wear it. I told the stylist, named Fairy whom I think is the manager, that I wanted the sides faded in and a little off the top for a trim. Fairy completely ignored my requests, and essentially hacked down the sides to almost buzz cut level, not a fade. Then chopped down the top, not a trim. When I made a comment about the buzz cut she stated that she was cutting my hair to the bone structure of my head. Now, I could be wrong, but I've had my head for about 34 years now... I know what looks good, and what doesn't, and when I state that I want a TRIM, I expect a trim. That's just crappy customer service to ignore what the client wants. She went on to try to style it in a completely different manner than I told her I wanted, than I came into the place with, and stated that my hairline is more appropriate for a faux hawk. I'm a F'n attorney, a judge would likely throw me out of court if I walked in with a faux hawk! The piece de resistance, is when I got home and was able to take a good look in the mirror. I have a slight widows peak, which she literally chopped all the way down to about 1/16 of an inch, and only the widows peak part, while leaving all the rest of the surrounding hair about an inch or so, so it looks like I have a bald spot with a few randoms hairs sticking out right in the middle of my forehead! It looks like SH!T! Steer clear of this "barber shop," or if you do go, definitely steer clear of "Fairy". read more

The first time I came here was pretty positive- I got a great haircut from Brittain, who knew exactly what to do once I described my normal haircut. The place was clean, the staff very friendly, and the manager hospitable (free snacks and a beverage). For those reasons I wish I could give a better review. Unfortunately, Brittain apparently is gone, and my second visit ended much worse. My stylist was Leah, and after telling her my usual (clippers on the sides, just a little bit off the top), she turned the chair to face the TV they have in the shop and I wasn't able to see the progress. This may stem from the fact that they put a lot of emphasis on the barber shop "experience," perhaps at the expense of actual haircutting. Suffice it to say, I now have a fauxhawk, which is not what I was looking for. My hair has started thinning in the front and I have a moderately receding hairline; she ended up harshly exaggerating these realities, and not really following what I asked for at all (sadly, she never checked for my approval at all during the cut, and her confident attitude had convinced me that she was doing exactly what I asked). Moral of the story: ask to be faced towards the mirror. I can only say that once everything (hopefully) grows out again, I won't be going back. read more

I found this place with my Yelp iphone app when I was looking for a place where I could get in quick and get a decent looking cut. I was pleasantly surprised to get 25% off on my first and have been back 3 times since. Fairy really knows what she is doing and is a great stylist. I've been to a lot of barber shops and they never really cut your hair the way you ask them too and I usually leave not liking the way they cut it. Either too short or not enough. Fairy is fast but more importantly good at what she does. I haven't had enough time to enjoy the beer they offer you, but it's definitely on my list for next time. Barbie Barber is brand new...just opened up in the strip mall where the Moscow Deli and MC Pet grooming is. I needed a haircut so I decided to try this local little shop to support my community. From the moment I walked in (I had the wifey with me) the 1 lady working that day greeted us. There was a flat-screen TV mounted to the wall. The shop is nice and neat, a barber-stylist shop. "Fairy," who I later found out, is the owner and sole barber that day. She washed my hair and gave me a nice cut. She offered me a beverage and talked with my wife and I. The experience was great. I'd recommend her to anyone of my male friends looking for a good haircut at a decent price. read more
