Badia seasonings and this one in particular!! Awesome find!!
Chanek H.

Taking the time to review a grocery store cause Yelp isn't just about food/restaurant reviews. A little pricey but you'll always find amazing service, especially in the deli which has a pizza oven. They were making pizza when I was buying Boars Head meat/cheese. They were excited about making a pizza, and I ALMOST ordered one just because! They have items you'd never expect to find or find anywhere else! I can shop anywhere, but this visit will make me come more often. They do have self checkout, but an actual cashier (multiple) always around! Quiet, clean, helpful staff. YES..YES..AND YES. The cherry on top...BADIA SEASONINGS!!

Self checkout open. Attendant lane closed. No attendant nearby.
Charles E.

8:45 PM: "we encourage people to use self checkout" with a full basket of produce. When questioned as I was bumbling through produce codes, "yes, I would've checked you out." Meanwhile, there is no light on the attendant lane and she was nowhere to be found when I entered the queue to indicate I had an option. I don't mind doing my own part to keep costs down, but this is literally the most expensive grocery store in the mid-range category. Their premium brand, AJs, offers FAR better service, better products, and they do not expect me to do algebra figuring out produce codes... and the prices aren't terribly off from Bashas. Ensure you always have an attendant available for larger orders so we don't have to guess if a closed lane is actually open, and instruct your attendants to offer checking help for larger orders when they come through. This person was totally aloof and unconcerned.

a bunch of garlic in a wooden crate

I was so excited that I found American grown raw Gilroy garlic. I'm glad that my local Bashas carries it. I've been using the jar stuff made in America. Most of the bulb garlic you find in stores are from China. I prefer Gilroy garlic or grown in the USA. Thanks to Julia Child she said we didn't have to be a nation that used only garlic salt and powder.

There are customers line up at the self check-out, yet not a normal check out open. I ask a worker who is chatting with another worker if they are going to open a check-out, she looks at me as if I'm bothering her and says nope then goes back to chatting. Again, WTF? I've got a cart full and already put in my 8 hours for the day. Now they want me to do their job as well. Self checkouts weren't made for that. Originally they were made for the guy who has 2 items and didn't want to wait in the normal checkout. He could get out quickly. Now after 7 they want everyone to use them. Maybe if I got a discount, I would be more willing to self checkout but I'm paying full price. Like I said, I already put in 8 hours at my job, my job is hard physical work. I don't feel like doing their job too. What do you think? Are you ok working for Fry's for free after you worked all day? No other place makes you work when you go there, no restaurant makes you cook your own food, no doctors office make you do your own physical, no bar makes you pour your own beer or make your own drink. What does Fry's think they can make you work for free. I hope someone from corporate reads this and does what's right go back to the way they did it for years and years. Or I'll be driving a little farther to get the customer service that Fry's lacks. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Huge selection, everything looked fresh, and it actually felt like a real market instead of just rows of the same old stuff. I spent more time over there than I expected. The associates were another pleasant surprise. Every person I talked to was friendly and genuinely helpful. You don't always see that anymore, so it stood out. What really caught me off guard was the bulk section. I've never seen anything like it in a regular grocery store. Nuts, grains, snacks, all kinds of things you can scoop yourself. Pretty neat idea. And the vitamin section? Honestly the biggest vitamin and supplement selection I've seen anywhere outside of an actual vitamin store. All in all, a really solid first experience. Clean store, great selection, and good people working there. I'll definitely be coming back.

First things first: this review is not about the employees. They are all awesome and this store is…read moremy go-to Albertsons. This review is for corporate. Albertsons corporate offices clearly have not spent much time in the stores judging by the decisions they make. For example. Today I did some light shopping but big enough to need a cart. When I go to check out there is only one cashier lane open (as usual, even though they need more) and the line was full of several people with large quantities in their cart. So I go to the self check even though it pains me knowing self check just means one more person without employment. Anyway they now have these massive bins holding sale items smack in the middle of the tiny self check square. Total nightmare! If you have a cart you are unable to pass to exit since other people are at a kiosk checking out and there's zero room between them and the sale bins. It is one big traffic jam and the poor employees are forced to move people around while they're trying to check out just to keep the line moving. There was so little space that I am fairly confident this is not ADA compliant. I truly think Albertsons corporate believes that only people with small items and no cart go to self check. If you only employ one cashier however, this is not the case. Especially on a busy weekend. I will never understand forcing your customers to be employees and not paying or even trusting them but that's a whole other topic. Every customer and every employee was frustrated and complaining about these stupid sale bins. It does not take a genius to know this was a bad idea. Remove the bins!

It's nice to discover some new things you haven't tried before. The bakery has some tempting things to look at. The store is large with wide enough aisles so you can browse easily. Prices are a little higher than other places but some things may be worth it. The parking is limited only because of all the other businesses in the area. I'll go back and look around again. They also have ready made sushi, which is what I ended up getting. They have a little something for everyone ranging from your typical American food like pizza, pasta, chicken fingers and salads to Mexican, Indian and Asian food. The sushi I got was really tasty. The spring rolls I got were okay but the dipping sauce is not what I expected which was a tangy sauce. Usually for spring rolls it's a peanut sauce. For sushi they have low sodium soy sauce available which is a plus. There is very limited seating at the store to sit down and eat so most likely you'll have to bring your food home. All in all, it's not bad. Fairly cheap, and a decent selection!
