Stopped in for the first time to get cupcakes for my niece's birthday. I was impressed with the selection that they offer. The bakery had cakes, cupcakes, cookies, tons of pastries etc. They also had a full menu for breakfast, lunch and of course all of the fancy coffee drinks. Although they were busy the employees were friendly and got the job done. The girl who helped us answered all of our questions and gave us instructions on how to let the cupcakes defrost. I stopped here to get takeout this week and was overall disappointed with my visit. I had just left a lunch meeting at panera across 19 where I just had a drink; it has been about 6 years since I had Bartram's and I was curious to try it again since I was so close and in the area. I tried calling for takeout and no one answered so I just went across the street to order. You have to wait in line to order at the counter, and I had to wait about 15 minutes just to order. No big deal. I ordered a chocolate croissant, a cuban sandwich with chips, and the spicy asian salad; I was starving and was hoping to have leftovers for dinner. After ordering, I sat in the restaurant to wait for my order. It took 30 minutes which was just frustrating- I waited over 45 minutes total including the ordering time, all of which could have been avoided if I could've ordered over the phone and waited at Panera with my work until my food was done. While I was waiting for my order, a kitchen staff member seems to be having a very loud meltdown in the kitchen that could be easily heard in the dining area. I heard slamming and a man yelling the F word and screaming for two minutes. I get having your moments in a restaurant or even being understaffed- I've been there- but this behavior within earshot of customers was ridiculous and really turned me off. I didn't check the bag until I got back to work. My chips were missing, and I explicitly asked what came with the sandwich. The cuban sandwich was awesome! I would definitely order that again, but it was sort of small for the $13 price tag- especially considering I didn't get a side with it. The asian chicken salad was just simply not good. The chicken and spicy dressing were fine, but the salad was like a wedge salad- it was a giant piece of iceberg lettuce cut in half. I asked what came on it and was told it had walnuts but those weren't on my salad. I liked the snap peas on it, and it also had carrots and red pepper. It was just pretty tasteless, and the iceberg lettuce just made it all seem very plain. I ate the chicken and the peas out of the salad and threw most of it away, a waste of $15. I loved the croissant part of my pastry but the chocolate wasn't my favorite- I would get a plain one if I went back. The staff was very friendly, including the man who took my order and the man who brought me my food. I would return for a plain croissant and a cuban, but based on the other elements of my visit, I would be hesitant to return when there are so many other restaurants in the area. read more

We really like Bartram House Bakery, we've been coming here for years for their yummy treats. This time we came for brunch, given the severe lack of quality brunch-type places in the area. It's very very tight on the inside. If it's a Sunday morning, good luck finding a table. We happened to get very very lucky; we had to stare down some people that were clearly finished eating, and had to rush over there to claim the table. I've enjoyed all the food I've had here, but my absolute favorites are the pecan bars and the croissants. For brunch I got an omelette, and this was pretty tasty! If you're coming here you need to be strategic with what time you get in. You're gonna have to be patient or plan ahead of you want to eat in. However if you have to just get a treat to go, you'll be more than fine. read more

I used to really love this place for pastries. I knew they had breakfast so my husband and I stopped in. The place looked kinda empty. It used to be such a visual display of pastries but there wasn't much to look at. The woman who took our order was new but didn't try to get answers to our questions, she just said "I'm new, I don't know." On top of the poor customer service it was a little dirty in there. I noticed a bunch of crumbs around the cash register, our table was dirty when we sat down, the coffee car area was messy and the bathroom was kind of dingy. The food was just average. My breakfast sandwich came on just white, dry bread. And the turkey sausage was links cut up which you can see fell off of my sandwich. For what they charge, the service is poor, the place is not very cleanly and the food is average. We won't be going back to this location. read more

Came in on a Saturday at 10am expecting it to be slammed. There were only a few people inside and outside. We ordered immediately and had no trouble finding a table. The inside was clean and bright and all of the tables were free of crumbs and trash. My friend and I both ordered build-your-own omelettes. I asked for tomatoes, spinach, and banana peppers. My omelette came to me with bell pepper inside I'm not allergic or anything, but I don't like the flavor. Luckily, I was able to pick them out. I also purchased a chocolate chip scone and pecan roll to go. The chocolate chip scone was delicious! Not too dry at all. The pecan roll was perfect. Not dry or tough and was loaded with pecans. Everything was priced well for the quality. The baked goods were both $3.29 and the omelette was $12, I think. The bathroom was ok. The toilet and sink were clean and there was soap and paper towels, but the paper towel machine was jammed. The wall had a hole in it where someone clearly swung open the door. Overall, I'd recommend! The staff was friendly and came by to pick up our trays. read more

I was just at their McMurray location at 7 AM on Tuesday, February 11, 2025. The woman working should not be permitted to work with the public. She was highly agitated that I arrived at the opening time of 7:00 AM. After letting me in she told me she would be with me in a minute. A guy comes out of the back and she says loudly to him "we're not allowed to open the doors until 7 AM correct?" He said "yes why? what happened?" She said loudly "I'll tell you in a minute". Arrived around 9:45am on a Sunday with myself and two guests. The tables lined the perimeter of the room for social distancing. Mask were worn by the employees. The gentleman behind the counter advised the corner was open for eating in. My guests ordered a cannoli, chocolate sugar cookie, and a bear claw. I had a sample of each, and all tasted very good. I ordered a breakfast sandwich. The lady that took my order had a nice manner. The veggies for the sandwich were a great option. My sandwich contained eggs, bacon, american cheese, spinach, mushroom, on a croissant. It did take a bit of time to get my sandwich. In the meantime the kitchen was pushing out food. My sandwich arrived nice and hot. It was a bit greasy though, I needed another napkin. The bacon should be cooked a bit more to get crispy and cook off the fat. For a $10 sandwich, it should be perfection on a plate. When guest left their table, the employees cleaned the table. The bakery as a whole seemed well kept. As far as bakeries go that do unbelievably good stuff, that is far from "donuts", Bartram House takes the cake. Literally. I personally feel they are one of the best I've ever experienced. Highly recommend....anything. But, if I had to choose a few to let people know about--try these things: the Pain au Chocolat (fresh homemade croissant with chocolate baked in, drizzled with chocolate...warm it up!), any of their Macrons, their Apple Strudel, Cupcakes, Fruit Tarts, or danish. They also offer food. I've never personally tried it yet, but everyone I talk to speaks highly. I will try eventually and will update about that! Service has always been phenomenal, too. I have been to this location multiple times and never once have I had any complaints. It's great to go with friends, coworkers, Or even a little Lunch date with your significant other. The service is friendly and fast, food fresh, and the place is always clean. The crab cake sandwich is one of the best in the area. all of the wraps, delicious, and I absolutely love their homemade honey mustard dressing, as well as the house Italian! I order the white raspberry truffle cake pretty often and it is truly incredible. I am pretty plain when it comes to cake... I usually get your typical chocolate cake with white icing, so this cake made me step out of my comfort zone. The raspberry mousse filling makes your taste buds explode! Great place for deserts ! It's got a huge selection to choose from . Everything looks great and is presented well. Not very busy on a Saturday night which I believe will be the case in a quite neighborhood like McMurray . It says that the place closes at 10 PM but they were shutting shop at 9 which gave us just 10 mins to as our the goodies . All things we tried - the Oreo cheesecake, the lemon tart and the cookie dough milkshake were all great . Don't think I'll tire of this place for a long time to come:) read more

Used to get sweet treats from here over the past say 10 years or so..... This place still doesn't disappoint ! Got an assortment for Valentine's day weekend, my favorite being the mini key lime pie it was amazing. Some of the other favorites were the Fruit Tarts and cheese cake oh can't forget the classic Snickers doodles. So I will definitely be back again in the future. I ordered the French toast on Brioche. My experience with brioche is that it has been a very light bread. Bartram's was very dense. What dominated was a sense of mushiness which grew worse as each piece cooled down. I don't know if it was underbaked. It was just not very enjoyable. Perhaps I just ordered the wrong menu item. Stopped by for a latte and the worker complained that they didn't want to make it... I was about to change my order and get an iced coffee instead, but they rang up the latte and made the drink anyway. When I got the latte it was scorching hot, so I let it cool for my 20 minute drive before taking a sip and it was STILL too hot to drink (and did not taste very good either). I have not tried the food, and the pastries in the case do look really good, but overall the service was bad and the drink wasn't much better. read more

The triple chocolate cake used to be good until they changed the design and icing. Decadent chocolate shavings and a beautiful chocolate frosting have been replaced with flavorless frosting and a poorly executed chocolate ganache drip. The icing on the cake (pun intended) is they sell the cake on a plastic plate which made it virtually impossible to cut. We literally had to cut the lip of the plate off to cut the cake. disappointing overall- bring back the original! read more
