Dr. Barton and his staff are very competent and very personable. I have used other chiropractors in the past, and his office is one of the best. Yes, this is a high-traffic practice, and thus the cubicle system, but it's no worse than any other medical office I've been in, and offers more privacy for those that want it than a standard waiting room arrangement. Yes, I watched the short film, but it isn't a hard sell. For those that are not familiar with chiropractic care, it is informative, since chiro does require repetition to be most effective. I found them through a "LivingSocial .com" deal, and being out of work and in a lot of pain this was a godsend. My 'deal' came with 2 consultations, x-rays, and a small number of visits. Yes, I was presented with a treatment plan, but as I'm out of work and have no insurance, continuing treatment is not an option for me. When I explained this, Dr. Barton & Dr. Stockton (his newest associate) let the matter drop and have not put any pressure on me to try to continue when it would be a financial disaster for me to do so. I knew coming into their office that my back was really messed up, so the extensive treatment plan was not a surprise. I have suffered from back pain for years and was seen by other chiropractors before going to Barton Chiropractic and had little to no improvement so I was on the hunt for a new doctor. When I came for my 1st appointment there was an issue with the xrays from my primary dr so Doctor Barton took me into his xray room and shot a new set right on the spot. We put together a treatment plan and, 2 years later, I am feeling better than I ever have while my alignment continues to improve. This place is completely a scam. I came in here a few days ago with severe vertigo, couldn't even walk. I cried my eyes out as I was leaving here considering I had no help at all. Their fees are outrageous and they were trying to put me in a position where I was paying out of pocket even though I have insurance. The dr even said "we may take all insurances but not all insurances take us, just pay the $3,000 out of pocket and then see if they'll cover you later" who has that kind of money just laying around? On top of it he was saying he wouldn't even be able to treat me until the following week. Made a different appt and was fixed by beyond chiropractors. I highly recommend her. I have been a patient of Barton Chiropractic for a few years now and have referred many people to his practice; my fiancee, son, and daughter, all with wonderful results. My fiancee has only seen one chiropractor his entire life and was not wanting to change, even after his announced plans for retirement. After seeing the wonderful care, and progress, I was receiving he decided to try letting them do his maintenance visits - he was very happy. When he was in a car accident, Dr Barton made sure they were there for him immediately. In a short time he went from not being able to sit for even 5 minutes without pain, let alone walk or attempt to work, to being only weeks from returning to full duty at work. The family doctor said he was looking at 6 months of therapy and may never recover from the neck injury. There are 3 doctors in the office and you can see anyone you want to see. They rotate days and back office work, and all consult on every case (at least the ones for my family and people I have referred). They are open for care 6 days a week and 10 hours a day. I am so thankful for the cooperation of all the doctors in the practice, this means that I can get care whenever I feel I need it, even if I don't have an appointment. read more

Very poor personal skills from this chiropractor. The reviewers that are giving him the 1-star reviews have experienced him first hand, including myself. Don't bother going to this practice, and read the reviews carefully! I had to visit with him because the other chiropractor that I would see was not available. When I went in, I had my child with me which appeared to turn him off. He didn't speak to either of us, never engaged in a conversation and was quite abrupt with his technique on me (maybe because I was the other chiro's patient possibly?). I felt worse after leaving the office, so my first impression from him was a negative one. He seemed like a nice guy, but refused to bill my insurance (told me he would send the forms in for me so that I would get reimbursed by my insurance (which never happened)) Also I had to sit threw a movie that drilled into my head the importance of repeated visits, he tried to get me to sign up for the 5 year plan & wanted a 2000 dollar deposit! All this was after I repeatedly told him I was a college student living on student loans. It's unfortunate that this is the kind of guy who gives chiropractors a bad name. I've been to 3 or 4 chiropractors in my life and they've been nice and ethical for the most part. This guy is truly a criminal. Once he found out that I was going to switch chiropractor to one that was closer to my home, his face immediately changed and proceeded to do an adjustment that was in exact opposite to what he had been doing for the past 7 sessions. I felt a bit stiff walking out of the office (very unusual) and woke up the next morning and couldn't move my neck. Of course I have no solid evidence that this guy did this intentionally but if I could make a wager on this, I would bet everything I have that it was intentional --- his facial expression and his sudden decision to go with an adjustment that counter to what he had been doing - both seem too much of a coincidence to conclude otherwise. I really liked how the doctor talked he seemed very confident that he could help me. But I came in with insurance and was told over the phone they would see what they could do for me to just come in that the initial consultation was free. Thinking about it now the office is kinda scary they all (front desk employees included) seem so fake like you are walking into a scary movie like "get out". They are all smiling but it's all fake they just want to brain wash you to get your money. The Chiropractor wanted me to pay $300 for xray and $94~ for initial exam. To start it he wasn't even informing me this he just went on and said "let's get started we will do an xray and then an exam, come on let's go to the next room" and then I was like before we get started with that I'd like to know the cost and that's when he told me the prices. Because they do have you sign a form that you will pay services rendered to you before hand and I actually read it. Because the front desk girls only tell you it's a simple 3 signatures. And I was like give me a second I gotta read what I am signing. Then, I was like I have insurance and he said ya we do not take that insurance no Chiropractor does. And I was like yes they do because I had already been to one but I didn't really seem confident in what he was doing that's why I decided to try another place. I found Barton Chiropractic and they fixed my problem within 3 months! They do an awesome job and they know exactly what to do. Dr. Jacob J. Barton is very patient, very welcoming and very nice. I went to a chiropractor in Livermore for over 20 years and it was wonderful. When I moved, I looked for another one. Why 1 star? 1- Comparing the cost to my Livermore Chiropractor and now my new Chiropractor, he charges almost three times as much. (And I would be willing to pay top dollar for my health, so this factor is only a small piece of my rating.) 2. I felt really uncomfortable every time I went into the office. Often only his associates were there to see me. And, when I did see Dr. Barton, I felt he wanted to rush through as fast as possible and then hand me a pile of his cards to pass out to get more business. 3. Although I don't think his adjustments caused me any problems (like others have noted), I did not get any relief from the adjustments he gave me. (On the other hand, a couple of his associates were quite good.) 4. He makes it seem like you are totally screwed up, and it seems like he does this to charge you more. Neither my first chiropractor or my current one found all the "horrible" things that Dr. Barton said was happening to my spine. Bottom Line - I paid a lot of money for treatment that did not harm me, but did not help me in any way. read more

I'm so stunned by the negative reviews. I had been to this chiropractor for a few months and I seriously felt like I had a fresh, new body every time I left. It is a bit pricey but they have different payment options/ insurance coverage. They also make cookies fresh daily.. and who doesn't like fresh warm cookies? They have fruit (apples)/ water/ tea also in the waiting area and a big tv and some toys to keep the little ones occupied. Dr. Caponio is great! My husband's back was really in bad shape...he was having terrible headaches neck and back related.....we were desperate when we got there. The whole crew was great....took us in, made all exams and figure it out a way for us to be able to make the payments and start the treatment in no time. I don't even have severe back problems, but all of us get a little unbalanced every now end then...specially working at the computer all day like I do....I started my treatment and I always get out of the clinic feeling like new. I recently visited Barton Chiropractic and wanted to share my experience. I went to Barton because of a groupon that my mom had purchased for an exam, x-rays and a massage. I have been getting adjustments for at least the last 10 years. In my high school college days it was more for a pain but never anything major. So my first impression everyone there from the front desk to the doctor himself were very nice and polite. The exam was fine, we did the x-rays and the massage was wonderful. To go over the x-rays I was asked to return a few days later. On my second visit again everyone was polite but my experience was much different. The doctor Zachary Stockton went over my x-rays with me pointing out all the things that were wrong. He asked me "how did you let it get this bad?" He showed me where I had some growth of bone spurs. He told me that my spine was trying to fuse together and suggested a program for me. He had me scared, thinking I'm crippled and then he shows me the prices. For almost $4000, he would see me 3x a week for 16 weeks, I'd get more x-rays, and some re-examinations. Of course they would give me a discount if I paid up front. He also suggested that I get preapproved for a medical loan that would cost me $5000 overall. Well Daddy didn't raise no fool. I knew I needed to talk it over with my family and possibly have a second opinion. On second opinion from Dr. Eric Belusa (who I would highly recommend), I was relieved to find out that the condition of my spine was not nearly as bad as Dr. Zachary Stockton lead me to believe. Dr. Belusa looked over my x-rays, confirmed that I did have some bone spurs but that I didn't need such an aggressive program. For 2x a week, over 4 weeks I was getting adjustments. Overall I was initially impressed with Barton Chiropractic and Dr. Zachary Stockton but on the second visit I was taken back. I feel like he saw something that needed correction but pushed it too far to "try and make the sale". This is just my opinion but I would choose a doctor with higher integrity for my chiropractic care. read more

He's a Thief, stay away!!!! Going to Dr. Barton could very well be the biggest mistake of my life. Not only was my time wasted by this crook, but he also stole over $3000 from me. Dr. Barton told me that I needed to come see him 3 days a week for 3 months for him to fix my back. After going in for 3 days every single week for 5 months straight, I did not feel any better. My back felt the exact same from the first day I ever walked into his office till the last day I walked out. The only difference about me was I had $3000 less in my bank account than I did before. But that's ok, Doc needed the money to pay for his Cadillac Escalade and all of his other fancy cars. Do not make the same mistake I made. He will use all of these fancy words and make you feel like you can trust him, but in reality he is tricking you and conning you of your money. Came in and did the consult, the X-rays and because my significant other was unable to come in I was never given my x-ray results. It is very difficult to schedule appointments with my SO because we work opposite schedules. This was something the doctor could not understand. He refused to see me at a second appointment for this one reason. The office is a no-frills kind of office. No traction beds, no beds that adjust, everything seemed old and dated. The tactics of selling chiropractic care are scare tactics and hard selling. Like if you don't start care you could have degeneration of the disc & sub-luxation (never got what that was all about, it was a word he kept using in the consult). I like to think of this particular practice as the used car salesman of the chiropractic industry. Everything in this practice is cheesy and unprofessional. The video I had to watch at my appointment was just awful. It's unnecessary & the only reason they have you watch it is so the doctor can finish up with patients. They seem to double schedule new patients with current patients. I felt rushed through my entire appointment & did not feel like they had my best interest. First off I want to thank Mary for her review. After my first visit with DR Barton and his staff something told me to visit Yelp. I just thought it sounded funny that the whole office staff insisted that my wife come along for the 2nd appointment. So I talked it over to my wife and showed her the reviews on Yelp. We both felt like we should at least hear what he has to say and keep what we read in mind. So we get there and first off he made my case sound really bad same as Mary's and then he hit me up about how many times I needed to come and see him. SAME NUMBER AS MARY'S!! After I told him that there was no way I could afford his service because my co-pay was 20 bucks per visit ( he wanted me to see him at least 3 times per week). He then turned to my wife and said. " Well what do you think?" My wife said. " Its up to my Husband".. Then I saw his face drop and not look to happy and understood why he wanted my wife to come along. After we were walking out of his office he started asking me about my credit and wanted to see if I can get some kind of loan for his service. Dr Zachary Stockton is the worst doctor i've ever seen! Dont waist your time and money going to their office. All they care about is to get you back to their office to suck more money from you I purchased the Groupon package for one particular reason - to X-Ray my hip, which only hurts sometimes when im working out. After hour of talking and talking ...and trying to make it look bad without even seeing my X-Ray dr Stockton said that he doesnt have time to check my X-Rays and i would have to come back with my husband ??? for a next visit. I told him several times that my husband is a very busy man, but he kept pushing for another visit ..... with! my husband. Finally i've got mad and told him that i'll have my family doc requesting my Xrays from Barton Chiropractic. He said that the regular doctor cant see everything, and only him (Dr Stockton) can. And ... he kept pushing and pushing again for another appointment! This was ridiculous! This Chiropractor office uses tactics that Car Salesman use to pressure a person to buy a vehicle. After reading other reviews i see that they used the same tricks with other people. And i see now why he needed for me to come back, so he would have more time to sell. They don't care about your time, they want you back to their office and they pushing hard for it. Thank you for your time and please you stay clear of this place! I Think Dr. Barton is a great Chiropractor. He took the time to actually find out what was wrong with me. His prices were more than fair. My initial exam was $95.00 My x-rays were $150.00 I called around and everyone was about the same. I Chose Dr. Barton because my girlfriend is a patient of his and all she does is talk about how good she feels now. I have been seeing Dr. Barton for about 4 weeks now and my back pain that I have had for almost 5 years is almost entirely gone. I can work out now. He has given me excersises to help make my back stronger. I feel great. I had been to a couple of other chiropractors in town but none of them really helped me. I had actually given up. But my girlfriend assured me that he had been practicing for almost 25 years and that he was really good. So I caved and went with her one day. I have to admit the office is really busy, there were patients everywhere. But I never felt rushed, and Dr. Barton has always taken the time to listen to me. The short story: I would strongly advise !AGAINST! using the services of Mr. Barton. He's quick and effective in taking your money (or your insurance's money) - aside from the first visit, every other visit lasts no more the 3-4 minutes. When it comes to your health though, he's slow and careless. It's a pity that his years of experience have resulted in a weird kind of chiropractic "assembly line" - I can only describe his method of examination and practicing as medically irresponsible. The long story: In May 2011 after most probably a leg-press injury from a workout, I developed the following symptoms: - low to mid-grade pain in sacroiliac joint area - torso was "shifted" slightly to the left above the waist - couldn't lift my right leg more than 15 degrees from a laying on my back position. I visited a young chiropractor in Walnut Creek, but after 5 visits had no improvement. Chose Dr. Barton because I wanted someone who is familiar with the Gonstead technique. We started 3 adjustments per week schedule. After the first 4 adjustments I felt no improvement and communicated it to Dr. Barton. He said that it's too early to see results, but I should definitely feel better at the end of the first 2 weeks. I reminded him that I already had 5 adjustments from another chiropractor (for a total of 9) but he simply dismissed it. At the end of the first 2 weeks I still didn't feel better and asked for a more thorough examination - similar to the initial exam - so that an objective assessment can be made. I was told that such an examination was scheduled for after the 12th adjustment. I again shared my concerns that my condition was NOT getting better, and agreed to continue the treatments only if a 'full' assessment was done on the 9th visit. At the end of the 3rd week I arrived at Dr. Barton's office feeling worse than before and the full exam was performed. Most of the parameters had no change, one had a very small improvement and two had gotten worse (one of the two significantly). Those results were presented to me by Barton's 'protégé' (forgot the name of the 'young practitioner') as an 'improvement'! When I asked for Dr. Barton's opinion he reviewed the results and to my surprise agreed that things were getting better!!?!! I obviously disagreed and decided to end the treatment. 2 days later, after getting out of bed in the morning I felt sharp pain in the area between the right hip and the spine and after a couple of steps was on the floor unable to move my right leg. To give you an idea about the level of pain - 20 mg of liquid oxycodone didn't make a dent in it. Several days later an ambulance took me to the nearby hospital where an MRI revealed a herniated disk with a large herniation pressing on the L4-L5 nerve. I ended up having surgery and now almost 9 months later, my right leg is still not fully recovered (according to the neurosurgeon the herniation most probably did some nerve damage). In my opinion Dr. Barton is too vain to admit when patients are not responding to his treatment and that leads to unnecessary but serious complications. Next time it could be you! read more

I went to get help because I was in so much pain that I could no longer tolerate after being rear ended on the freeway. I was greeted by the receptionist who was very pleasant and courteous. I saw the older Dr Barton after I had my X-rays done and explained to me what the X-ray findings and the course of treatment. I was then asked to wait in the room and another lady came in to talk to me about the payment plan. I was totally caught by surprise when she started talking to me about a 2 year treatment plan and that if I paid upfront for the discounted price - they will bill my insurance and I will be able to pocket the difference. I was shocked. I am in the medical field and I have not cone across a medical office have this kind of business practice. I was ready to pay for my office visit and I have medical insurance that covers chiropractic care but they were hard selling me this payment plan to make me pay $4k instead of $6k if I was to pay every time I came for treatment. This was my first time to go to a chiropractor and my visit was not even 10 min and the doctor was done. He would do a couple of "adjustments " and done. I stopped going because I felt uncomfortable and it felt like the people there were too nice and too sweet it felt fake. read more

Several years ago I was at the County Fair in Antioch. Barton had a booth set up there (that should have been a red flag right there) and he talked me into coming to his office so he could fix my back that i hurt starting an outboard motor. I had never been to a backcracker before. He cracked my back and offered to "adjust" my neck. I told him there was nothing wrong with my neck. He said it would feel good and would be beneficial to me. That was many years ago and I have had nothing but a lifetime of pain because of his "beneficial neck adjustment". My neck was fine when I went into his office. I wish I could turn back time and say no to his neck adjustment. What a jerk. I too had a billing issue where i was quoted one price and given another. There was also double billing issue also that i had to fight them on. Later in life I read to never never never let a chiropractor crack your neck. Too late. This Hack already got to me. This review is for Dr. Coponio. He was a life saver this weekend! I totally tweaked my back somehow and could barely walk. This happened over the Labor Day weekend, and I had the worse pain on Sunday. I was frantic to find anyone to help me out. I called the emergency line with Barton Chirpractor and Dr. Coponio calls me back about an hour or two later. He was able to get me all fixed up later that evening. He was super nice and very thorough! I totally appreciated him coming out on a Sunday night over a three day weekend! From the other reviews, it looks like Dr. Barton may not be so good, but Dr. Coponio was great! I would make him my chiropractor if we live up in Concord, but I was just visiting from SD. read more

Don't buy any groupon or other deals causes its just a way to rope you in! The massage was not even close to an hour. Of course the diagnosis is that I need about $5K in chiro care. The down side to this office is that they are VERY "sales"y" which I do not care for when it comes to my healthcare. And its like a cattle call in terms of how many people they see! I think its not professional and could be against healthcare privacy to be able to hear the patient being treated in the room next to the little booth you are waiting in for your turn. Went few times then I found another chiropractor I like way better. So for the total of about 18 mins. All chiropractors do the same thing, at least they should be making you feel better. I'm a financially strapped individual, so when I called the office to find out how much an X Ray and the first visit would cost, they told me not to worry, that the consultation would be FREE. The "consultation" comprised of 3 minutes with a pretty face-nurse/secretary who asked me a series of questions about where the pain was and its history. At the end of the three minutes she did not give me any advice, she informed me to even visit with Dr. Barton would be $75 dollars and if he recommended X Rays that would be an extra $150 dollars for a grand total of my consultation coming to $225 DOLLARS/ very different from FREE. I was in pain so I said whatever, he X Ray ed me that day and said he would have to examine and process the X Rays and that I would have to be back! When I came back in two days ( don't worry, we made sure I was not getting charged again) he explained to me that I have back problems, and that is, the cause of the pain......(clap)(clap) thank you doc. I will just start out by saying that I was in dying need of care from a chiropratic I was referred to Barton from a friend. I called to make an appointment and was in that same day just so they can take my funds. First I was pressured into a treatment for 72 sesssions for $7,500.00 I was in so much pain I decided to sign up for the plan. All was well untell I found out that I was being way over charged for the services. I also noticed that when I had questions regarding my care and why I was not getting any better. All I was tolb my MR. B that I need more care. When My 72 sessions where supposably up I noticed that on my card I was being charged an extra $600.00 because my 72 sessions where up. Well I refused to pay because no one explained nothing to me they just kept taking my money. When I asked to talk to the office manager regarding the EXTRA CHARGES from the back office a lady came out very bitchy and started demanding me to pay the extra charges because my sessions where up. I told her that I was never informed about the extra charges or that my sessions had ended. This so called office manager that should not be a office manager she and her husband Barton are just money hungry bastrads said that I had to pay the entire amount before I can receive any more treatments. I told her that I was not paying because I have never received a second exam to see if I had improved and second my neck and back still hurt. The office manager told me that I was not going to receive an exam if I didnt pay the money. I talked to Barton to try an explaint the situation finally barton stated to me that the fault was the girls that work for him they never went over the wellness plan with me to explaint the extra $200.00 per month. They I was givin an exam and Barton told me that I needed another year of treatment and tried to suck another $3,500.00 and wanted me to pay upfront. Well I told him and his money hungry OFFICE MANAGER TO FORGET IT. I never got answers to any of my question just a bill for the price of the bill that never even took away my neck pain or back pain. There was times that Barton was not even in his office he had assistants helping me when he was out on his big fishing trips due to over charging for the services. I noticed that they where more interested in the patience and there care not money. well after a couple of months I noticed they had left Barton's office for the same reason Barton Is not interesed in his patience care just there checking account. Well after doing some searching I found them. And He is my new chiroprator less expensive and more involved in the care not the checking accounts. ANYONE THINKING ABOUT GOING TO BARTON FORGET ABOUT IT. HIM AND HIS OFFICE MANAGER CAN GO TO HELL. read more
