My mother in law was wanting Italian for dinner. There were a few options by us that was close to the U of U hospital. I had spent the whole day at the hospital and was starving. I could have eaten my weight in meatballs by the time they released me. I did creep out the menu and didn't see meatballs as an option. I have been to other Italian joints that didn't list meatballs on their menu so I was hoping that this was the case. This joint is 10 minutes from the hospital in Sugar House which was nice. It was an easy drive to the venue. We made our way in and was instantly greeted. We got sat away from the door which was nice. It was cold and pouring rain so sitting next to the front door didn't sound fun. We looked over the menu after our server dropped off with our water. Everything on the menu looked delicious! I didn't see meatballs as an option so I wanted to ask my server if it was even an option. My mother in law ordered the rigatini bolognese. I got the salmon without the parmesan risotto subbed for extra veggies. I wanted some meatballs on the side but it wasn't an option. So, I was hoping that my meal was going to be enough food for me. My plate came out looking amazing! My salmon looked perfectly seared. My broccoli rabe and asparagus had beautiful char marks on it. It came with a bright, charred lemon on the side. I added the fresh lemon on my food and a little salt to taste. I was ready to dig in! The brocolli rabe and asparagus were cooked perfectly! They were both charry with a nice bite to it. I took a few bites of my salmon and it was fresh. After a couple bites, I did notice that it was not cooked all the way. With my new kidney, I have to be cautious with undercooked food. I also don't care for rare meat or fish so I would have asked for it to be recooked anyways. I didn't want to waste the veggies so I offered just to take the veggies off my plate and they could just reheat the salmon. They were so kind about it. My server gave me my original side of veggies off my plate. They were preparing a whole new plate of salmon and veggies for me. So while my new plate was being prepared, I polished off the vegetables. My second plate that came out was lovely. The fish was seared nicely again with another helping of vegetables. Again, I topped my food off with the juice from the charred lemon and some salt. I did notice that this second piece of salmon was a bit smaller than my original plate. It was good piece of seared salmon but there wasn't any real seasoning to it besides the lemon juice and salt I added. Overall, dinner was great and the service was nice. I appreciate that the chefs for remaking my plate. The venue is pretty and romantic. My mother in law and I had a great dinner here. The only thing that I would have liked was a little more flavor on my salmon. Other than that, it was a delicious meal that I needed after my long hospital stay.
Amazing food! We couldn't decide which pasta we liked best because they were all so different. My personal favorite was the bucatini but my husband liked the spicy rigatoni the best!
Food is A- okay. Pasta is cooked al dente, which is a bit chewy for my liking. I got the mussels and clam pasta in white wine garlic sauce and garlic bread, which was descent. Six mussels didn't open, so I didn't bother. Clam chowder wasn't bad and the Cesar salad I'd say pass on it. -Same with the garlic bread if you order it separately. Parking was a breeze and service was fair.
Found this restaurant while visiting Salt Lake and I recommend it 100%! Food was amazing, everything tasted delicious, home made feel and the portions are great!! The service was very good as well and the ambiance! If you are looking for Italian food, definitely choose this restaurant, you won't be disappointed! Ps: pics of the food was after eating some, oops!
This is the second time I've been here, and it is just as amazing as the first time. I tried the chicken Parmesan, and it is the best chicken Parm I've ever had in my entire life. The chicken is juicy, and if you get a side order of Alfredo sauce to mix in with the marinara, you will have the most perfect flavored sauce in this world. All of the side vegetables are delicious and large enough to share with others. The grilled garlic bread is to die for! The service is amazing, and our server was so sweet and so fun to talk with. The ambience looks casual, but it's not casual at all. You can work any type of clothing, and they have tables to accommodate parties of every size.
This was my second visit to this cute little Sugar House restaurant and both times service and food were excellent. I highly recommend taking your time and having a drink and appetizer before your meal. We love the olives and pickled vegetables with focaccia and this time we also tried the Ricotta Toast (with Gfree bread!!) and I honestly could of eaten two orders of that alone! My hubs tried the Asparagus and Pea Rissoto and while good, a little too lemony for his tastes. I had their slow cooked beef and pork bolognese for the second time and it was delicious. We will be back over and over.
Had a reservation on a Saturday evening before an event at Kingsbury hall. It did get pretty busy so I would recommend a resy for sure. This restaurant has its own small parking lot but that's a win. There is even ADA parking and the bathroom is ADA accessible. It's small and quaint and can get a little loud but overall a nice spot. Our server was fine, and they have food runners. Now to the meal. Everyone I was with enjoyed their meals, I had the special filled pasta and it was tasty and filling. It had a beef and pork filling in a simple brown butter sauce. I would definitely go back!
What a great experience! The food was phenomenal!! We had visited this restaurant a year ago and the food was good then but this past experience really was top notch! The service was amazing and the staff were so accommodating through our time there. Always a great time and the restaurant is super clean! Can't recommend it enough! Go right now!!

We just enjoyed a fantastic brunch at Bartolos. I'm surprised there wasn't a line out the door, as everything was so delicious and service was great. We started with a Moka pot of Lavazza coffee, served in these adorable mini coffee mugs and soaked in the calm and upscale atmosphere while trying to decide on what sounded like several excellent options. After a long while, we finally settled on the chorizo biscuits and gravy and the egg white frittata. But I just also HAD to try the blueberry pancake, too. RIP my waistline. I think it's a great sign when your food takes some time and doesn't magically appear 5 minutes after you ordered it. That is exactly what we got here. Perfectly prepared, high quality food. The potato wedges my SO subbed for the roasted veg that came with the biscuits and chorizo gravy were quite possibly the best I have ever tasted. Perfectly crisp on the outside, soft and pillowy on the inside with plenty of salt. I enjoyed the egg white frittata, which is best if you're looking for something light, but the blueberry pancake was a standout. It had an excellent texture and the toppings were a perfect compliment. A little indulgent without being too sweet or too rich. We were so impressed, Bartolo's is now our go to brunch spot. Order a Moka of coffee, sit back and enjoy.
I ordered food to be delivered and was incredible disappointed. I got a side of the "roasted" broccoli, it tasted so watery and was cold. It was clearly from a frozen bag. It actually tasted worse than the frozen bags you can buy from wal mart. The pasta was ok. Not very flavorful but just alright. The cheesecake was weirdly warm but was mediocre as well but was a good portion. Super disappointed considering how expensive this place is. It was $10 just for a side of broccoli.
We stopped in here for a casual dinner for the first night of vacation. We were quickly seated and our waitress was very attentive and helpful. We got the pickled vegetables and garlic bread for appetizers and the lasagna and mushroom bucatini for entrees. Everything was amazing and portion sizes were large for the entrees. If we were going to be in town longer we would definitely go back.

4 years later we came back and they did not disappoint! I got the Truffled Mushrooms Bucatini (although that was a difficult choice because my last review said I wanted to lick the plate of the muscles and clam spaghetti). Hubby got the Butternut Risotto and son got the lasagna Only complaint was a bit too much balsamic on the risotto. read more

A Hidden Gem That Earned Its Way Onto My Regular List. Bartolo's Sugar House is the kind of place that sneaks up on you. The ambience is simple but warm. Nothing flashy, just a comfortable space that lets the food do the talking, and the food has plenty to say. We ordered the pistachio pesto campanelle, and it was outstanding. Rich pesto sauce, artichokes, and sun dried tomatoes coming together in a way that felt both rustic and deliberate. We also had the Caprese Bucatini, a spaghetti style pasta served with a small ball of fresh mozzarella in the center surrounded by marinara. Do not skip the garlic focaccia either. It is grilled, which adds a smoky depth you do not expect from a bread course. It was exceptional. The tiramisu trifle was the one miss for us. It needed more moisture to really land. Skip it and spend that room on more pasta. A note on the experience: there was one server covering the entire floor and what appeared to be one person in the kitchen. The restaurant was not busy, but we still waited longer than the situation seemed to call for. It did not ruin the meal, but it is worth knowing. The bathroom also needed attention. We spent $85 for two with non-alcoholic drinks, which felt fair for the quality and the neighborhood. They apparently do brunch, and I am already planning a return visit for that. This place deserves more attention than it seems to be getting. read more

This place was so busy and it took a bit to get our entrees but the grilled garlic bread helped our wait. The food is a bit on the heavy side and nothing really stood out. The scratch-made pasta and bread was a plus. Overall, a decent Italian place but we left feeling as if there was something missing. read more

This is one of Sugarhouse's best finds. Arguably, top of the list for Salt Lake overall. It's the kind of place you show up for a late, late brunch on Sunday and find yourself changing your dinner plans for later in the week because you just cannot get enough! Let me start by saying, any place with a well curated drink menu in Salt Lake is going to win you a perfect review from me. I was blown away by the red wine I enjoyed with some of the best rigatoni bolognese I've ever experienced. Please do not tell my Italian grandmother that! My husband opted for the breakfast side of things and loved his eggs. He very much enjoyed his perfectly plated seasoned to perfection breakfast. We both left with dinner for the evening! The portions are generous. What are you waiting for? This should be on your list this week for "Must Do!" See website for hours and more. Parking in the lot. read more

We tried brunch here today- the pancake was thick and sweet, the biscuits and sausage was different than what my husband expected but he loved it. I tried the pistachio's pesto and would order again. We have enjoyed Bartolos more each time we visit. read more
The service was great. Very warm and friendly. The restaurant itself was super cute and homey. Definitely had a neighborhood feel to it. I really wanted to be excited about the food. I will say that the garlic bread was delicious. The Pork Belly Puttanesca was not it though. There was an interesting taste to it that I just couldn't quite get past. The Chicken Parm was okay. The sauce and the dish overall seemed to lack flavor. read more

Food is consistently good here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner which makes it a family favorite. Service was good and there has consistently been a welcoming atmosphere. The pizza was delicious. Pasta was also good and the pasta shape held the sauce and cheese very well. Steak was pretty standard. The lattes, Moka Pot, and hot chocolate are always incredible and a main reason this restaurant is beloved by our family. read more
This is such a nice place; we got two different pastas, and the menu looked good. We tried the lamb campanelle and the risotto with shrimp. They were ok; I just think it was overpriced, and the shrimp did not have any flavor, and the lamb was ok. Great customer service. read more

I had such a good experience here...until the bill came. My friend and I came here for dinner. I knew this place was on the pricier end but wanted to take my friend out to a nice restaurant and didnt mind. The waiter was very attentive, gave great suggestions and we ordered drinks, appetizers, and entrees. Food was yummy and I was excited to come again with my boyfriend in coming weeks. They offered us more bread for our dip. Suggested I do a mix of two pastas which I agreed to. What I didn't know is I was charged money for additional bread that was offered. They saw that 4 small pieces was not enough for the dip and asked if we wanted more since we still had so much dip left. Was I told this was an extra cost? No. Did I know that his "surf and turf mix of pastas" would be uncharged $9? No. I know that ~$20 bucks or so extra wasn't not that big of a deal but I think it's unfortunate when business offer things without being transparent about how much more its going to be. I still think customers should come here because the food was tasty but make sure to question if what they're offering you is extra. And make sure to take close look at your bill while in the restaurant, something I failed to do. read more
Bartolo's is one of my favorite underrated brunch places in Salt Lake. There's never a wait and the food is so tasty, they do have smaller tables so I would recommend calling in if you have a party bigger than 5. Food: Chorizo Biscuits & Gravy 4/5: I wasn't sure if I was going to love or hate it but it's such a delicious twist on this breakfast staple. The biscuits are fluffy & the chorizo gravy is delicious. I only wished we could choose a different side. Tiramisu 5/5: THIS TIRAMISU IS SOOOOO GOOD!! I would rather have it here than gourmandise (and I love gourmandise). You just feel the love soaking through this dessert. read more
