Did you know Bartolo's has many options on their menu? Including pasta and bread, that are Gluten Free?!? They do and therefore is one of my favorite special occasion places when celebrating with family or friends with dietary considerations. We recently visited the Sugarhouse location to celebrate friends birthdays and more than half our group is GF and it is so nice to be able to visit someplace and feel everyone can enjoy the food care free. On top of that, this location is super cute and the staff at every location is always super friendly! The charcuterie is a great appetizer for a larger group. The rigatoni bolognese is my favorite (ask for extra ricotta) and the lasagna is some of the best I've had! read more

My mother in law was wanting Italian for dinner. There were a few options by us that was close to the U of U hospital. I had spent the whole day at the hospital and was starving. I could have eaten my weight in meatballs by the time they released me. I did creep out the menu and didn't see meatballs as an option. I have been to other Italian joints that didn't list meatballs on their menu so I was hoping that this was the case. This joint is 10 minutes from the hospital in Sugar House which was nice. It was an easy drive to the venue. We made our way in and was instantly greeted. We got sat away from the door which was nice. It was cold and pouring rain so sitting next to the front door didn't sound fun. We looked over the menu after our server dropped off with our water. Everything on the menu looked delicious! I didn't see meatballs as an option so I wanted to ask my server if it was even an option. My mother in law ordered the rigatini bolognese. I got the salmon without the parmesan risotto subbed for extra veggies. I wanted some meatballs on the side but it wasn't an option. So, I was hoping that my meal was going to be enough food for me. My plate came out looking amazing! My salmon looked perfectly seared. My broccoli rabe and asparagus had beautiful char marks on it. It came with a bright, charred lemon on the side. I added the fresh lemon on my food and a little salt to taste. I was ready to dig in! The brocolli rabe and asparagus were cooked perfectly! They were both charry with a nice bite to it. I took a few bites of my salmon and it was fresh. After a couple bites, I did notice that it was not cooked all the way. With my new kidney, I have to be cautious with undercooked food. I also don't care for rare meat or fish so I would have asked for it to be recooked anyways. I didn't want to waste the veggies so I offered just to take the veggies off my plate and they could just reheat the salmon. They were so kind about it. My server gave me my original side of veggies off my plate. They were preparing a whole new plate of salmon and veggies for me. So while my new plate was being prepared, I polished off the vegetables. My second plate that came out was lovely. The fish was seared nicely again with another helping of vegetables. Again, I topped my food off with the juice from the charred lemon and some salt. I did notice that this second piece of salmon was a bit smaller than my original plate. It was good piece of seared salmon but there wasn't any real seasoning to it besides the lemon juice and salt I added. Overall, dinner was great and the service was nice. I appreciate that the chefs for remaking my plate. The venue is pretty and romantic. My mother in law and I had a great dinner here. The only thing that I would have liked was a little more flavor on my salmon. Other than that, it was a delicious meal that I needed after my long hospital stay. read more

Food is A- okay. Pasta is cooked al dente, which is a bit chewy for my liking. I got the mussels and clam pasta in white wine garlic sauce and garlic bread, which was descent. Six mussels didn't open, so I didn't bother. Clam chowder wasn't bad and the Cesar salad I'd say pass on it. -Same with the garlic bread if you order it separately. I was a bit disappointed with my chicken parmesan dish. First of all the portion were good. The chicken came topped with cheese and Parmesan however it was overcooked and a bit crispy. The cheese was somewhat burnt and the flavor was that of burnt cheese. I was being gracious as we were celebrating the occasion and so I ate my meal. The pasta was thick and I had to cut it rather than swirl it around my fork. My wife had Lasagna and the topping of cheese on it was brown and overcooked as well. I did taste it and a burnt flavor indeed. Under the cheese it was a bit more flavor able and tolerant. My grandson found a piece of cardboard early in his meal and had to get another plate. Ther service as great as they kept the beverages full and always asked if we needed anything. The rest of my families plates were just fine. The ambiance has a comfortable setting and was clean and appealing. I guess it was just one of those busy nights and the cook didn't pay attention to what was being sent out. The waitress should have seen that before was served. I will think about it for a while before I consider going back. read more

This is the second time I've been here, and it is just as amazing as the first time. I tried the chicken Parmesan, and it is the best chicken Parm I've ever had in my entire life. The chicken is juicy, and if you get a side order of Alfredo sauce to mix in with the marinara, you will have the most perfect flavored sauce in this world. All of the side vegetables are delicious and large enough to share with others. The grilled garlic bread is to die for! The service is amazing, and our server was so sweet and so fun to talk with. I truly love Bartolo's. I love dining their weekly sometimes twice a week and it's always exceptional from the way I'm greeted at the door. It is always exceptional. Aiden is a bartender that I've watched grow from being a busser to a server to a bartender and he is exceptional. He is extremely professional, conversational and if you are regular, he remembers your order. Also the kitchen staff and cooks are to be commended for the excellent dishes that they produce. We stopped in here for a casual dinner for the first night of vacation. We were quickly seated and our waitress was very attentive and helpful. This was my second visit to this cute little Sugar House restaurant and both times service and food were excellent. I highly recommend taking your time and having a drink and appetizer before your meal. We love the olives and pickled vegetables with focaccia and this time we also tried the Ricotta Toast (with Gfree bread!!) and I honestly could of eaten two orders of that alone! My hubs tried the Asparagus and Pea Rissoto and while good, a little too lemony for his tastes. I had their slow cooked beef and pork bolognese for the second time and it was delicious. Had a reservation on a Saturday evening before an event at Kingsbury hall. It did get pretty busy so I would recommend a resy for sure. This restaurant has its own small parking lot but that's a win. There is even ADA parking and the bathroom is ADA accessible. It's small and quaint and can get a little loud but overall a nice spot. Our server was fine, and they have food runners. Now to the meal. Everyone I was with enjoyed their meals, I had the special filled pasta and it was tasty and filling. It had a beef and pork filling in a simple brown butter sauce. We just enjoyed a fantastic brunch at Bartolos. I'm surprised there wasn't a line out the door, as everything was so delicious and service was great. We started with a Moka pot of Lavazza coffee, served in these adorable mini coffee mugs and soaked in the calm and upscale atmosphere while trying to decide on what sounded like several excellent options. After a long while, we finally settled on the chorizo biscuits and gravy and the egg white frittata. But I just also HAD to try the blueberry pancake, too. RIP my waistline. I think it's a great sign when your food takes some time and doesn't magically appear 5 minutes after you ordered it. That is exactly what we got here. Perfectly prepared, high quality food. The potato wedges my SO subbed for the roasted veg that came with the biscuits and chorizo gravy were quite possibly the best I have ever tasted. Perfectly crisp on the outside, soft and pillowy on the inside with plenty of salt. I enjoyed the egg white frittata, which is best if you're looking for something light, but the blueberry pancake was a standout. It had an excellent texture and the toppings were a perfect compliment. A little indulgent without being too sweet or too rich. We were so impressed, Bartolo's is now our go to brunch spot. This is one of Sugarhouse's best finds. Arguably, top of the list for Salt Lake overall. It's the kind of place you show up for a late, late brunch on Sunday and find yourself changing your dinner plans for later in the week because you just cannot get enough! Let me start by saying, any place with a well curated drink menu in Salt Lake is going to win you a perfect review from me. I was blown away by the red wine I enjoyed with some of the best rigatoni bolognese I've ever experienced. Please do not tell my Italian grandmother that! My husband opted for the breakfast side of things and loved his eggs. He very much enjoyed his perfectly plated seasoned to perfection breakfast. We both left with dinner for the evening! Let me paint the picture so you understand why I decided to pair a dirty chai with a heavy plate of pasta- I just went tubing and was hungry and tired lol. This dirty chai was presented beautifully and was perfectly warm, not too hot. This chicken fettuccini may very well be the best fettuccini I've ever had. The sauce was so creamy and had spinach, mushrooms, parmesan, chicken, and breadcrumbs for texture it was a huge portion so I didn't finish it and it was just as good eating it the second time. I had such a good experience here...until the bill came. My friend and I came here for dinner. I knew this place was on the pricier end but wanted to take my friend out to a nice restaurant and didnt mind. The waiter was very attentive, gave great suggestions and we ordered drinks, appetizers, and entrees. Food was yummy and I was excited to come again with my boyfriend in coming weeks. They offered us more bread for our dip. Suggested I do a mix of two pastas which I agreed to. What I didn't know is I was charged money for additional bread that was offered. They saw that 4 small pieces was not enough for the dip and asked if we wanted more since we still had so much dip left. Was I told this was an extra cost? No. Did I know that his "surf and turf mix of pastas" would be uncharged $9? No. I know that ~$20 bucks or so extra wasn't not that big of a deal but I think it's unfortunate when business offer things without being transparent about how much more its going to be. I still think customers should come here because the food was tasty but make sure to question if what they're offering you is extra. And make sure to take close look at your bill while in the restaurant, something I failed to do. read more

Bartolo's is one of my favorite underrated brunch places in Salt Lake. There's never a wait and the food is so tasty, they do have smaller tables so I would recommend calling in if you have a party bigger than 5. Food: Chorizo Biscuits & Gravy 4/5: I wasn't sure if I was going to love or hate it but it's such a delicious twist on this breakfast staple. The biscuits are fluffy & the chorizo gravy is delicious. I only wished we could choose a different side. Tiramisu 5/5: THIS TIRAMISU IS SOOOOO GOOD!! I would rather have it here than gourmandise (and I love gourmandise). The service was friendly but there were little things e.g. bringing out the main dish despite appetizer still being worked on that were extremely off putting. This place has a great ambiance with an open patio and open concept kitchen. I love that they make their pasta in house. We ordered the carbonara, the bolognese rigatoni and the pesto pasta with a side of focaccia bread. All was pretty average tasting. I'm not a huge fan of the thick noodles. Bartolos is fantastic. I came interested in the Italian brunch experience. Not used to eating Italian for brunch but surprisingly is a good change from your eggs and ham. Lol. Reservations were easy to do and they were not crowded. Usually brunch is a crowded time so I was very happy to get in right away. I highly recommend the shrimp spaghetti! They put a good amount of cherry tomatoes and shrimp which I love. In addition has a good kick. The shrimp spaghetti I was told was popular item for good reason. Finish off with the tiramisu. You can taste the aromatics of coffee and mocha. read more

Bartolos is decent, even though I am a little picky about Italian food, having lived in Italy in college. My Bucatini alla Carbonara (one of my favorites that I order everywhere) had ground meat instead of smoked bacon as was stated on the menu. It seemed like maybe a sausage blend. I do appreciate that they don't throw peas into the carbonara, like many American restaurants do. No peas in carbonara!! The grilled garlic bread sounds amazing but both times I've ordered it, it has a weird char taste to it that's almost bitter that I can't figure out. read more

"An off putting experience" We arrived 35 minutes before closing (at 1:55 PM) today to try to have a nice family lunch together at this, one of my mother's and father's favorite restaurants. We were told by the hostess that they were closing at 2:30 PM. The hostess said that only if we ordered and ate quickly we could be seated. We were shocked and confused as to why we couldn't be seated 35 minutes before closing. So we left! We felt horrible, embarrassed and that you didn't want us in your restaurant. We've come in here for dinner and most recently for brunch. The food is good but can be a bit underwhelming. It looks great but the taste can be lacking on some dishes. The best thing to get that's on both menus: beet and burrata salad ... Hands down Things that are good but not like WOW good: avo toast, blueberry "pan"cake, pork chop Ambiance is great and we love being able to make reservations. Parking is limited with a smaller lot but there's plenty of street parking. Great place for families, dates, or just a dinner. Service was amazing at brunch but not the best when we came in for dinner. Given it's cute and local and they make a lot of things in house we will be back to try more dishes out. read more
