We have had Bartlett put several times for tree pruning and removal. Based on our property topography, it's very challenging. They have done great work for us at a reasonable price. And they are arborists, so they won't do something that's harmful to the health of the tree. read more

In January 2024 two huge trees fell onto my house in a windstorm breaching the roof. Jonathan Pierce with Bartlett Tree visited a day after the storm and I immediately knew I was in good hands. He surveyed the grim situation and patiently explained what we were up against given the wide spread devastation throughout the area. He was able to get a crane and the crews needed to remove and process the trees quickly. The crews he assembled were always professional, answering my questions and concerns respectfully and cleaning up before leaving. He also clearly was experienced dealing with insurance companies which in this case was important. On September 8, 2020, contacted Bartlett Tree Experts because a tree limb came down during the wind storm. Drew D. Professional Arborist was very professional and friendly over the phone. He provided immediate service mid morning to assess the tree damage and was respectful and professional in person just like over the phone. Bartlett blew my mind with the high quality of work performed on my 120' Redwood tree which had been partially damaged during the 2021 ice storm. Bill and Quentin arrived early which my husband and I appreciated and spent time listening to what we wanted them to do for our tree. The work was intense and took nearly six hours to complete. The work included: raising up the canopy by 12'; add a cable to stabilize at the top two large branches which had split to prevent possible future instability; trimming up and thinning out the entire tree all the way around --especially the backside which hangs over our neighbor's driveway. Our tree is once again beautiful. Bartlett performed the work thoroughly and stacked up all the branches. Without asking, Bill and Quentin also removed the small branches and debris on top of the storage shed. Many thanks to Bartlett for a job well done. We have used Bartlett for treating plants for lace bug, tree care, and trimming shrubs. The services provided were satisfactory. Their prices are a bit higher than local tree care services we have used. I made an appointment for their arborist to do a walk through of our property for a more comprehensive bid. I waited and then called. It wasn't on the schedule. The scheduler said, "Mistakes happen." That's true but couldn't there be a more proactive answer? Like, I'm sorry could I find another time right now? I can call the arborist to check on availability in your area immediately." I wish I could say this was the only time Bartlett was not very responsive to requests to hire them. They were NOT responsive to my urgent call. After the ice storm of 2021 it took them two weeks to get back to me to tell me that they wouldn't be able to take care of our trees for at least 6 weeks or more. I was okay with it because it was a busy time. However, other neighbors were serviced within two weeks of calls for similar (non-life or property threatening) circumstances. read more

I would give less than one star if I could. I had Drew come out fall of 2020 to look at a Magnolia tree in desperate need of pruning and was interested in fungal treatments for my 30 roses. He came up with an estimate which I signed and approved in January (was quite pricey but my friend recommended them so I went along with it). Roses were to be treated March 1, April 1 and May 1 (or thereabouts). Work on Magnolia tree (and possibly Rhody) was to be done in March. Well, March came and no word from Drew or anyone. I contacted Drew and he said he'd have a tech come to do the first fungal treatment the following week. I requested several times to have the tech tell me when she was coming so I could watch and make sure she got all the roses. She ignored my request and sent me a text when she was DONE with the treatment. That was on 4/1/21. I had to look at my security camera footage to see what she had done. She arrived at 10:08a.m. in truck. First surveyed the property, then pulled hose out of truck etc. At 10:18a.m. she was driving away. 3-4 minutes of actual spraying time. I don't know if this is the norm, but I was shocked considering the price is $110 per treatment (series of three). But I figured if it works, then ok. Two weeks later, my roses had blackspot. My roses *never* have blackspot in early spring. And that is the last I've heard from them. I've called and emailed several times and gotten no response (not just to Drew, but to the company itself). I did NOT get the series of three fungal treatments, nor did I get the pruning. I wasted $110 on one fungal treatment lasting only a few minutes. I absolutely do not recommend this company. read more

Really frustrated with Bartlett. In the beginning they were responsive so I signed up to have them treat our sick Weeping Alaskan Cedar trees (maybe cypress I'm not sure). They did the treatments but the trees, over a year later are still in poor condition. That's not my complaint as signing up for treatment is not a guarantee of success. My complaint is after the year was over and I called, emailed, texted my representative Lyle he never returned one call, one text (he did reply to one text but thought I was someone else) or one email. I called the office directly and spoke to several people who assured me they'd have him return my call - weeks later I have had NO reply whatsoever or from anyone from him or anyone from Bartlett. All I wanted to know was what would be the next option to try and save my trees. This is a terrible way to treat a customer and I am incredibly disappointed. Today is my third experience with Bartlett Tree Experts. The work performed was originally scheduled for mid February 2021, a week after our ice storm event which wiped out so many trees in the PNW. The work I needed was more annual maintenance than anything so I was only too happy to put it off until the more crucial work could be done clearing our neighborhoods from all the downed trees. Then their wonderful arborist, Drew Derrick, left to pursue very noble work with fire and storm damaged trees and a whole bunch of customer files were transferred onto another company rep. Imagine having your workload doubled right after an ice storm like we had! But they finally got around to me and the crew who came out this morning were as usual very highly skilled, professional and thorough~~and so personable. I received an estimate for $3,575 to trim two trees from this company. I was told the trees needed to be trimmed approximately 15%. At the time of the visit, I was warned against using someone not licensed, bonded, and insured. A week later, I received an estimate for $700 to trim the same exact trees from another licensed, bonded, and insured tree company. I strongly recommend that you obtain a second opinion before using this company. read more

Normally I would be praising Bartlett from times past with their efficient service. Due to February's ice torm it is a given the overload for all tree services. We contacted Bartlett asap and were forced to wait till this month. Not a big issue for my husband & I even though my next door neighbor's tree service was able to take care of her trees in late March. The tree service she used is comparable in area coverage and in cope of work just like Bartlett. We receive a text in mid-April from Giles G. of an exact date & time he would be here, as well as a follow up text. However, we are unable Giles directly by phone because his mailbox was and still remains full. We phoned the office as well but there isn't a designed person to answer the phone. The date set for Bartlett to come out to our home was last Thursday. Giles even gave us a one hour window of estimated arrival. However... No one showed up. No text message initiated Giles. No reply to our text messages. Nothing. Nothing on the weekend either. Yesterday my husband sent Giles a message and stated if he didn't receive a reply we would cancel our contract with Bartlett. THAT got Giles' attention with a a reply that he had rescheduled the date for this week. Bottom line: Bartlett has controlled all the communications. An overly prolonged waiting period followed by shoddy communications by Giles G. has resulted in canceling our contract with Bartlett. Suffice to say I have an appointment with my neighbor's tree service. read more

I wanted to say how impressed I've been with a couple of employees of Bartlett Tree Experts. First off, Giles Gardner came out a few months ago to look at a couple of problems I was having in my landscape regarding health of a large shore pine and some of the azalea's and rhody's. He came across as truly interested in my concerns/needs and spent some time in understanding the history of the yard. After touring the front and back he followed up with recommendations in writing. He suggested a fertilization program, a disease control regiment (3 visits) for the pine and highly recommended a day of trimming my 25 foot Hinoki Cypress trees in the backyard. I was a bit reluctant due to the expense and having always done my own landscape work. I told him I was very particular regarding my home's landscape. He assured me that the person he would schedule for the trimming would do an excellent job. He told me he shared my bonsai interests and was very detail oriented. Upon his glowing recommendation, I agreed to have all the work done. Yesterday, I met Johnny who did the Hinoki trimming work. He actually had to climb the trees, a harrowing task in my mind! I have to tell you how impressed I was with his listening skills, personality, professionalism and attention to detail. I consider myself quite detail oriented myself but I have to say he met and exceeded all my expectations. These two representatives of Collier/Bartlett were impressive! It's rare that I find service up to my standards these days! It was indeed a pleasure to work with these two and I thought the world should know. My yard is now looking better than ever and my small piece of tranquility is now seeing more light and more use thanks to the Bartlett/Collier team! read more

Disclaimer: They were hired by a neighbor, not me. I granted them access to part of my backyard, to make their job easier and to be a cooperative neighbor. They left a mess, both in my backyard, my front yard and on the street in front of my house where they parked their chipper. As they dragged the limbs from my backyard across my front yard, they pulled gravel from the backyard path into my front lawn. They broke a weird wood "table", which they warned me about and I didn't mind, but they did a lousy job of cleaning up. Hire them only if you don't care if a mess is left behind. Multiple neighbors have had extensive landscaping done over the last few months, and those contractors make sure to clean up after themselves. Not Bartlett - they make the mess and leave it for you to clean up. read more

We attempted to use Bartlett two times. The first time they did a wonderful job - we actually had a tree branch fall on our car from a neighborhood tree that totaled it. We immediately contacted Bartlett to have someone come out and inspect the rest of the trees near our home, they recommended some pruning services and identified the rot in our neighbor's tree that had caused the branch to fall. Their price was slightly higher than other quotes, but the level of service and communication was great, they actually reached out to our neighbor and scheduled services for the same day to avoid additional disruption. Fast forward two years, after a move we reached out to the same representative to have the trees around our new home inspected. We had to reach out twice to get a consultation, but again had a wonderful experience with the representative and agreed to a series of pruning our healthy trees and removing a couple that weren't receiving the right sunlight and had shown early signs of dying. A week before the work was scheduled, we got a voicemail saying that they had started the permit process late and would be unable to come out for our early August appointment, but would be in touch once the permits were complete. A month later we reached out since we hadn't heard anything - no response. Another month later we reached out again - no response. We finally reached out to notify them that we intended to seek services from a different provider - at which point the representative (finally) replied and said that was best to go with someone else, as they were "overbooked and understaffed" currently, and they would cancel my bill (which, unfortunately, has not been cancelled even three months later...). We can understand that things happen and timelines aren't able to be held up. But it was completely inexcusable to not hear anything for nearly three months. By the time we were advised to go with another provider, it was late fall and leaves had already begun to fall - missing our window for a consultation where they can see which branches didn't sprout leaves and so on. Given a 5 star first round and a 1 star second, we believe they should get 2.5 stars, which we're rounding to 3. Hopefully the second round was an anomaly and not their new level of service. read more

We used Bartlett's in 2017 and had a great experience. They were professional, responsive, and did a great job. In spring of 2020, we contacted them to trim some trees and take one out. Someone came out and we had a great discussion, and he said someone would call us in the fall. No one did. By the time we got someone on the phone, they couldn't come until New Year's Eve. When they did come out, they did the tree trim but took out the wrong tree- the one they took was an established rhododendron, instead of the scrub tree that clearly needed to go. They couldn't do the stump removal because they hadn't brought the right equipment. That meant another visit, and even then things were done wrong. It's now been over a year since our original request, and the work STILL isn't done. We've called at least 20 times, and although the receptionist is friendly and kind, no one ever calls back. I understand that 2020 was a mess, and we've been more than understanding. Not only will I not ever use them again, I will warn everyone I know against them. Moral of the story: Always have an arborist come look at your trees, and my recommendation will be for Bartlett Tree Experts. You will see a lot of similarities in my review and Kellyn B.'s review (Feb 2018). This is because she was my tenant and connected me with Russell of Bartlett Tree Experts. Safety is always a number one concern. In December, a neighbor had their tree "pruned" by a different company. That company spoke with our tenants and said that the tree on our side (which had been nearly enveloped on one side by the tree that was just trimmed) was leaning drastically, was an imminent danger, and should be removed immediately. Of course I freaked out and asked how much to remove it, how quickly could they come, etc. As a former wildlife biologist, I know that it is critical to get an arborist's point of view. I didn't know if this company's technician was an arborist or not... I didn't know what to do and was ready to have the tree removed within days. Luckily Kellyn B. had worked with Russell previously and reached out to him. Russell responded immediately and came to assess the tree. Although the tree does not grow straight, Russell was able to assuage our fears and quickly provided a comprehensive report and additional recommended maintenance actions for all trees on my property (at my request). He even came back to the house to meet with me in person recently so we could discuss the tree and all of my concerns. Russell's knowledge of the type of tree, his observation that it bowed back toward vertical (in other words it is not falling, but had long ago formed this shape to reach sunlight), the direction of winds in the area, the best way to conduct maintenance on the tree to keep it healthy, etc. let him assess the tree in a way a layman (us) can't. I will continue to have Bartlett come out annually to assess this tree (because once fear is in your head, it doesn't leave) and maintain all trees on my property per their recommendation. Within days of approving all maintenance they recommended (on a total of 4 trees), Bartlett was at our house, conducted the proposed activities, and left the place in great condition. Oh yeah, and if I had removed the tree, Bartlett would have done it in less time than the other company proposed. Any tree concerns you have, this should be the company you call. read more
