8/31/2021: I bought my Bosch Microwave in June 2017 in Oakland CA before closing escrow on my newly built Placerville House; however and sadly, my Bosch Microwave's door began sagging after several years of providing flawless service. Therefore, I contacted Bosch Corporation in Los Angeles CA inquiring where I may have my Bosch Microwave's door repaired in NorCal but, upon receiving unsatisfactory referrals from Bosch Corporation which I must state I thoroughly researched ALL the repair service companies' reviews . . . Still curious, I contacted these appliance repair services located in Sacramento CA who were typically renown for habitually price-gouging their customers as per the YELP! Reviews which I vehemently refused becoming their next financial prey, i.e., charging in excess between $350.00 to nosebleed, chump fees of well-over $900.00 for one measly repair: The repair services located in Sacramento CA would NOT check the other components associated aside the initial repair quoted; they would merely quasi-fix the initial repair and egregiously charge you at least, $350.00 MINIMUM! Frustrated, I began performing my due diligence researching the Internet: Happily discovering a local appliance repair service located in gorgeous, serene Garden Valley CA . . . Not too far from Placerville CA . . . Immediately, I contacted Bartels Appliance Repair and began expounding my Bosch Microwave's door issues with Bartels. Since I never visited Garden Valley CA and I am a truly adventurous soul, I decided driving to Garden Valley with my Bosch Microwave in tow where I met both Brett and Vicki Bartels who expertly repaired my Bosch Microwave's door which btw, the repair cost was heinously inexpensive! Aside, their business' location is across the way from their house so, I saved a BOAT LOAD of money driving to Garden Valley in order, having Brett repair my Bosch Microwave. Overall, doing business with Bartels was extremely delightful, Brett and Vicki are very awesomely gracious, kind, and Brett took the time copiously repairing my Bosch Microwave's door plus, Brett checked the overall operation insuring my Bosch Microwave was safe using on a daily basis! I know should I need any of my household appliances repaired, it's worth the gas hauling my appliances visiting Brett and Vicki like old friends I haven't seen for a while! read more

I didn't technically get to use their services. But here is why. A few days before much family descended upon my house for the Holiday. The drawer broke in my overpriced refrigerator. I had an entirely non functional drawer when the refrigerator was packed to the gills. I spent an hour on the phone with Thermador only to have a work order sent to Bartles. I called them and found out that they don't actually service my area. And they had been trying to rectify this with Thermador for years. I explained my plight, even though I knew they could not help. They could not come to my area. She offered to FaceTime or use video exchange with her service guy to help me. At no cost. Just a kind person helping out somebody in a difficult spot. I ended up being able to fix it on my own and they didn't collect a penny . That tells me who these people are. read more

Physical assault in my own home. I called to have a warrantee repair, The Owner of the company in Placerville came, lightly accused me of insurance fraud and told me his repair was fine. I said let's call the warrantee company and see what they say and he went off about his 30 years of experience, proceeds to walk toward me slowly, screaming at me, with the "murder look" in his eyes. He then steps on my foot so I cannot move backwards and gets into my face making the "I'm gonna jump you" pumps with his arms. I yell back to have him get out of my personal space & my home, and he starts to leave, then drops his stuff to come back to my face with his pumps. He then shook his head side to side furiously like he was gonna blow and then something clicked off and he started to leave. This was absolutely uncalled for behavior. All I could think of is what if he does this to others people alone at their house in the middle of the day. This is class A workplace violence, completely uncalled for, and scary. Please proceed with caution when having any repairs done to your home by Bartel's Appliance. I really still can't believe this happened... read more

One part of our dual oven would not fire up. Brett did a more thorough inspection than another previous contractor and came up with a different diagnosis. He was knowledgeable, professional and generous with his time and efforts. He ordered parts and then scheduled to finish the repairs within a very short timeframe; and was very responsive providing updates via text messaging. Both Brett and Jim took extra care to render repairs, which required them to remove doors, dismantle parts and move the entire oven. They brought blankets to protect our floors, and even swept up part of our porch of shavings and debris. They did a thorough job making sure everything fit back together, was working properly and even leveled the oven to our counter tops. I think their sense of humor is caustic and funny and we were quite entertained by their playfulness. We would not hesitate to recommend Bartel's Appliance. read more

I went through fidelity home insurance, and they came out for two items: First issue: fridge not holding temperature either freezing or defrosted all our freezer. The technician blamed it on the vents being blocked with food items. They put it on the correct setting set as "recommended." They also blamed it on us not closing the door. Two weeks later the entire fridge shut down. The light stayed on, but no cooling. All our food was wasted and had to be thrown away, and we had to live out of ice chests as we waited in their call. Second issue: microwave was installed incorrectly, and said, "we should get a new one." He put a new sensor bulb in it, and it worked for one week, and the microwave continued to turn on by itself, or not turn on at all, or turn on only partially. They had me sign that they can't fix it. This appointment was a waste of time and money loss. They were going to charge me another $75 fee for them to come out here and tell me and fidelity the same thing, so I canceled. I'm over it, and will pay someone to fix it permanently. We are professionals and understand the important value of excellent customer service, alongside with having competent, thorough and personable technicians and receptionists. This company failed all aspects. We have not received poor and disrespectful communication and incompetent service in a long time, and we are usually accommodating for mistakes, but their visits to fix our kitchen appliance was a waste of money and time...which by the way, did not get repaired. This company - the owner, the elder Bartel - is both dishonest and to be avoided at ALL costs. I would give this review NEGATIVE stars if possible. He was rude, impolite, unprofessional, made threatening gestures, accusing us of fraud. I will preface this review by stating that I am a military veteran - 3rd generation - a former Naval Aviator (F-14s) and selected to Top Gun. I state this because I am not given to fabricating stories with unsubstantiated facts; therefore integrity is paramount in my world. Our gas range was already in the house when we purchased it some 4+ years ago - and although older, it had always functioned well enough. Last year during COVID, I was turning on one of the burners to prepare dinner with my wife - there was nothing on the stove at the time and it was completely clean/dry; after starting, the temperature was set but the burner ignition continued to spark unabated. I turned it off immediately - but it continued to ignite, with sparks flying which caused a fire. We called the fire dept, who arrived immediately to access the stove underneath (which could not be access due to the sparking/fire) and turn off the gas line and trip the breakers. Between the fire and fire retardant, the stove knobs, etc, were burned and destroyed. Filing the claim with our warranty company - they sent out Bartels - unfortunately, I could not be at home. My wife had to experience these behaviors firsthand - with his verbal abuse and shaking his fists - my wife had enough and told him to leave. She had done nothing to this man and was polite until the end. Once I returned home, I called our warranty company, and over the course of the next few days explained the facts to them in great detail - and filed a FORMAL COMPLAINT. Upon discussing the matter with the warranty company customer service manager, it became clear that Bartel had neglected to include several facts in his report which I clarified and emphasized to the manager; which he said explained some 'holes' in Bartel's report. Fortunately, Bartel's report was dismissed and the warranty company covered our claim. read more

I went through my home warranty service to have Bartel's Appliance repair my refrigerator. I have never before had such a horrible experience with a vendor. Bartel's said I was a no-show for one of my appointments, when in reality they had given me a different appointment time (that both me and my husband heard and wrote down). They re-scheduled that appointment (blaming me, and saying they were doing me a favor), and then did not show up on time to the rescheduled appointment (over an hour late without notice or a phone call). Every interaction I had with the technicians and staff was unprofessional. I wasted taking time off work, waited two months for the repair, and still don't have a fridge. I would highly suggest you look elsewhere for a company with basic customer service and integrity. read more

Bartels was the ONLY company willing to come within 48 hours and willing to do service while tenants were at work. Wait with others companies was 4 to 15 days. We have been forced to use this company due to them being the only "authorized dealer" for our particular appliance, and this is the 4th time this same gentleman (I use this term LOOSELY) has been sent out. I called Sub Zero in Madison WI as my refrigerator had lost all its Freon and was not cooling anymore. They gave me three referrals for authorized repair service in my Grass Valley area. Best, Bartels, and Value. I didn't use Value Appliance as their inspection visit price was high. I tried Best and Bartels. Best had the highest repair bid at $2666 plus a $99 inspection visit. The inspection visit was a visual inspection only and could have been done on the phone considering what the Best repair man did when he arrived. Bartels total repair bid was $1395 plus the $89 inspection fee which included actual testing of the parts during the inspection. Both companies came up with the same conclusion i.e. Freon leak. Both companies recommended replacing the compressor, heat exchanger, and the evaporator. Both companies purchase their parts from West Coast Parts in San Leandro, wcpdistributing.com. The Best repair bid was higher as their markup on parts was 75% to 270% above West Coast Parts wholesale and their estimated labor charge for two workers was $1,600. Bartels parts were 0% to 170% above the West Coast Parts price and their labor estimate for two people was $800. In addition Best wanted to charge $142.50 for Hazmat and Recovery even though all the Freon had escaped and there should have been nothing to recover. I chose Bartels. It took him 2 hours to install the parts and complete the job. Side note: I read some of the other Yelp reviews. Brett Bartels is a repairman and acts like a repairman. Just deal with it. We all have different personalities, I enjoyed his. I also noticed Best does a lot of YELP advertising. I'm uncertain if that advertising does anything for reviews or positioning. Bartel's Appliance recently repaired my dishwasher, oven, and refrigerator. The repairs required two trips to my residence (a replacement part had to be ordered for the refrigerator), and in both instances, Brett Bartel and his employee arrived promptly. Initially, I identified Brett as being somewhat unfriendly and cold, but I quickly realized that it's a product of his natural demeanor and not him being rude or unprofessional. Brett briefly explained each issue with each appliance to me and the repairs were completed to my satisfaction, including both he and his employee being respectful of my home furnishings. Contrary to some of the negative reviews on this website, I would not hesitate to recommend Bartel's Appliance based upon my experience. read more

We had Bartel's come to our house twice: first time to repair a dishwasher through home warranty, and second time to install a replacement glass plate for the cooktop. Both times, Bret showed up and I somehow felt very uneasy with him. When he was here for the dishwasher, he said he found suds (which nobody was supposed to use) in it, and blamed me for using suds. I told him I had never used soap suds in it, and that I always used only the approved automatic dishwasher cleansing pods. He didn't believe me until he said he remembered that he used something looking like suds to test the dishwasher's function. Bret came here the second time and installed the glass plate for the cooktop. After the completion, I found that all the electric burners were working, except that each time I turned on a burner, there was a loud clicking noise, which I had not heard with the old glass plate on (the rest of the cooktop is the same). Bret said it was the relay switch that made that noise. I understand that, but why is the noise so annoyingly loud this time? He got defensive and annoying himself. He does not know how to deal with customers. I saw it on two different occasions. And he himself says he had a great sense of humor. Year right. When the customer has been anxiously waiting for a part for three weeks and when it finally arrives for installation, you just don't say, "I got a white one, instead of black (like you used to have). Is that alright? ... i'm just kidding!" I understand jokes, but this is nothing to joke about. And while I was on the phone asking my spouse about the clicking noise, Bret left without telling me he was leaving. The woman who mans the office is no better. If you (mistakenly) call her "Patty" instead of "Pat", she gets upset. If you call her about when to expect shipment, she says, "I'll call you when it's here," with an annoying attitude. Horrible company!!! My dish drawers made by Fisher & Paykel has a couple of problems with the top drawer. I called the parent company in New Zealand and was told that according to my serial number I had a 2 year warranty that expires October 30, 2017. I was told by Bartels Appliance last week that someone would come out and repair the drawer today, October 24, 2017. This guy shows up and stated that he was only here to look at the drawer and had not ordered the part that needed to be replaced. They were told that my warranty ends this Monday and that I needed to get the drawer repaired now since we are selling the house. The guy stood in my kitchen arguing with me, actually yelling at me, that he couldn't order the part and that my warranty was only 1 year despite what the home office told me. What a jerk! I threw him out of my house - don't ever use these idiots - they have no clue what customer service means. Only customer service with a bad attitude!!! read more

We have a teenage girl who uses our washer and dryer more than I can say! Our dryer broke down yesterday and I called Bartels Appliance this morning at 7:40. He came highly recommended from a neighbor who said that everyone uses him up here on the mountain. Brett was at our house at 8am and not only fixed the dryer, he also serviced the washer, cleaned out the whole dryer pipe to the outdoors, and also taught me a few things about keeping our appliances clean and maintained. I would highly recommend Bartels service. I had a very good experience with Brandon of Bartels appliance. My 13 years old GE monogram frig could not stay cold (sub 0) and Brandon came out to diagnose the problem. He first tried the least expensive fix (which happens to be cleaning certain parts). He said to call him if this conservative fix did not work (after 24 hours), then he would have to switch out certain parts (which would get pretty expensive), and he would return to our house free of additional trip charge. First American Home Warranty company sent out Bartel's Appliance company in Sept., 2013 to fix a broken burner in the two-year old cook top in our vacation home. The Bartel technician (the owner) lifted the cook top up by himself to diagnose the problem. He came back another day to fix the burner, arranging to do so on my last day in Placerville before returning to my primary residence in southern California. He asked me to lift the cooktop with him as it really is a two person job, so I did so. However, after fixing the burner, he put the cook top back without my assistance. I left later that day for my primary residence and when I returned a month later noticed I saw a large stress crack in the glass cook top. I notified Bartels but they refused to take responsibility. My home warranty company submitted a claim to Bartels' insurance company, Hartford, but they said Bartel's coverage does not extend to damage Bartels does while on the job. So that means they have no coverage for this AND they refuse to take responsibility!!! And they were extremely rude over the phone, as other reviewers have noted. Frankly, I've never dealt with a company that is this unprofessional. Bartels has told the warranty company, the state licensing board (where I lodged a complaint that they investigated and that is now formally recorded), and my husband that if we want them to replace the glass cook top, we need to take them to small claims court. How is that for customer service!!??! They know we do not live in the area making small claims court difficult. I've talked to attorneys to represent us and we will have to go that route, suing outside small claims court for legals costs as well. This has taken a great deal of time to process these complaints through various channels and the atty says I can expect to get damages too. As someone who worked as an undergraduate for Ralph Nader's Public Interest Research Group (a consumer protection org.), I am committed to seeing this through. Meanwhile, consumers need to beware of how this company responds to damage they cause while in your home. read more
