If their was an option to leave a 0 star review, I would! I am visiting from out of town and have loved Tampa thus far until I reached this restaurant. We were excited to try this as it was our first time. My fiancé and I (she is 24 and I am 25) each ordered a margarita. Our waiter asked for our IDs and asked to take them to a manager which is fine but than he has the audacity to come back a couple minutes later saying that he can not serve us. I then pulled out my passport card to prove my age as well as my debit and credit card to prove my name. This so called "fake ID" works at every other restaurant in town and works to get me to travel by airplane. This is a joke of a situation and they will not be receiving any more of my family's business. This is my first review as I have had other problems but none was more irritating or infuriating than this was. I wish this review could include the food as well but the experience was cut short. read more

I love this little Hyde Park gem. It makes you feel like you are in a different place when you sit outside and enjoy the island music that they play. We were only there for cocktails and a few snacks and the service was amazing even though we weren't going to be a large check. Kudos! I also loved their accommodating nature as me and my guest were determined to dine outside, but it had rained earlier and they hadn't yet put the seating back together, but they made it happen for us. I ordered the plantain dish and it was so yummy! The server told me that they have strict standards with that dish and won't serve it unless the plantains are up to snuff. I love that!!! All in all a great visit and I'll go back with a bigger appetite next time. :-) read more

The ordering process is ridiculous- First you scan the QR code, fine NP. Then your spouse has to join as the host (assuming they iare paying- this must be decided up front)..Then they go thru the 'are you a robot' guess the pictures exercise... then you scan your spouses QR code. You think you are ready to order now right,'? wrong. Now the person paying must enter their credit card information and that must be confirmed .... then you can order. Too much effort for a couple of tacos and street corn for lunch. read more

4 stars for my one ribeye taco. I was across the way trying on wedding dresses, and on my way out I decided to give this place a try. I first looked at the menu before deciding to take a seat and I immediately got excited that the tacos were only 2.50 and 3.50 each, Wow what a good deal...so I thought lol. All the tacos are different and have different toppings/fillings. Some have corn, salsa, slaw, cilantro, etc...so they aren't all lettuce tomato and sour cream or whatever. I ordered the lunch special for $10 where you get soup or salad and 3 tacos, so I ordered the chicken soup, fried oyster taco, Mahi taco, and ribeye taco...again I was thinking, wow what a good deal, this is going to be the best cheat meal ever! So about 5 min later out came my 3 Tacos. I Knew They were going to be on the smaller side, but dang! These things were super mini. When I looked at all 3 my brain was trying to process it all, like why the heck are these things so small!? Is THIS A Joke!? The only reason I'm not completely disappointed is because I tried on wedding dresses 30min before coming here, and I looked Hella good in them since I've been on my diet. So after eating here, I dont feel like I did any damage to my progress, Ha! Also that ribeye taco was really good, it had an asian sesame flavor,I would order 5 of those next time. I really want to order the churros as I sit here and write this review, but they looked small and I don't have time to play when it comes to my sweet tooth lol. When I go out to eat it's to have a cheat meal, and when I cheat I like to CHEAT since I only have one a week, this spot isn't cheat meal worthy for me, so I'm partially writing my review from that angle. I would have to order atleast 7 to 8 tacos to get full. Would I come back, yeah I guess, but I'm not going out of my way. read more

Trendy taco bar. Good vibe. Great food! I couldn't pass up the half rotisserie chicken. Everything is a la carte, so I paired it with chipotle slaw. I swear it was the best tasting rotisserie chicken I have had in a long time. Very juicy meat and a good-sized piece. Reasonably priced as well especially since you're in the heart of Hyde Park. Sophia had chicken soup and a chopped salad. They are appetizer portions. The soup broth was spicy-good with huge chunks of chicken and fresh vegetables such as two chunks of corn on the cobb, potato, celery, carrots, onion and jalapeno. She rellay enjoyed the chopped salad, too. Service was excellent as you can tell whenever the manager makes it a point to stop at each table and ask if everything is alright. It's ironic that the restaurants that need to do this the most are the ones with generally average service. Iced tea only comes in a carafe for $3.50. There was enough for both of us to have multiple glasses, so it actually works out to $1.75 each, which is a bargain because the tea itself had a good fresh-brewed taste. There are lots of food choices close by, but you can't go wrong with Bartaco. read more

This place is awesome. The atmosphere and decorations are upscale casual. They have a nice outdoor patio. Everything on the menu was flavorful from the starters to the tacos to the desserts. The service was quick and friendly. Offered up top recommendations and made my group feel welcomed. The owner even checked on us himself. Highly recommended!! read more

First time at Bartaco and WOW! The food was fresh and full of flavor. Our server took the time to explain the menu and his favorites. We started with the guacamole made fresh in house. It was probably the best I've ever had. Crispy, salty tortilla chips scooped up chunky avocado, onion and cilantro. For dinner I ordered the falafel, duck and ahi tuna tacos. Each was about the size of three bites. My favorite actually was the falafel. What a kick it had! Unfortunately I didn't save room for the delicious churros I kept seeing. I guess we are coming back as soon as possible. read more

My first time. NOT my last. Lunch - which for tacos, is perfect. We sampled more than half the taco menu. Three different ones each. Each had its own unique flavor, texture, color, and style. The salsas and guacamole were excellent. We both had cocktails - mine was the "old thymer" which was extraordinarily smooth and my wife had a refreshing margarita. Our server, Jake, was informational, professional, prompt, and quite tolerant of my ignorance to Bartaco nuances like a server call card and an order pad. Otherwise, the service tempo, which is so wrong in so many other establishments is spot-on here. From our entrance to our seating to Craig the Manager checking in on us to our check - everything moved at absolutely perfect speed. In some ways I'm proud to have spent many afternoons and evenings in this restaurant's "great-uncle" Barcelona, in South Norwalk, CT. That being said, our dining experience at this Bartaco rated 5-stars on its own, and will definitely be on my short list of favorites in Tampa Bay. Thoroughly enjoyed, guys and gals of Bartaco. Thanks! read more

Bartaco would've earned five stars if it weren't for a minor mistake regarding my drink order...but that aside, Bartaco is a FANTASTIC addition to the Old Hyde Park area! A friend and I first visited Bartaco last night - a very busy Saturday night. Upon arrival, we noticed large crowds gathered outside which we feared equated to a long wait before being seated. To our pleasant surprise, our table of two was able to be seated right away (big groups may want to call ahead if that service is offered). The tacos were SO GOOD - no better words are needed - they were just THAT good! We started with the Salsa Verde which is served with large tortilla chips for dipping. My friend asked for more salsa and they happily delivered more at no charge. The questions we had about the menu were eagerly answered by a nearby gentleman whose job appeared to be to oversee/monitor the activity in the dining areas. My friend being a vegetarian, she ordered 2 of the Falafel tacos (which she LOVED) and 1 mushroom taco. I ordered one of each of the following tacos: Chicken, Chorizo and Pork Belly. I didn't love the chicken taco. The chicken is served coated in a bright orange sauce with a look similar to buffalo sauce but it did not have that flavor at all; it was just a flavor I didn't love after eating the two pork tacos. The server happily replaced the chicken taco with an additional pork belly taco and I ordered an additional Chorizo taco. Other Yelp reviews recommend ordering three tacos for fulfillment but the flavors offered in each were too delicious to stop there...so we ordered one more each to ensure we were adequately sated. The only let down occurred during the placement of our drink orders, which they do not write down - I ordered a glass of the cab (Cabernet) and a runner brought me what tasted like a Pinot Noir. After taking a sip and noting the light body of the wine, I double checked the menu to read the wine descriptions again. I noticed that all of their red wines are South American. Not wanting to make an issue of it I figured that their cabernet must be on the light side, like a pinot. Upon receiving our bill, it turns out our server keyed in the Pinot Noir, so I paid an additional $1.50 for a glass of wine that was not what I ordered and that was more expensive; the taste wasn't one that I enjoyed either. They were turning tables all around us so we just paid the bill and I sucked up the extra cost. I was just glad that I did not order a second round when our server asked. Overall, Bartaco is a four-star worthy restaurant that offers a lively dining experience with dishes that feature unique, ultra-fresh ingredients. I will definitely be back to try more tacos and share experiences with family and friends! read more

This is one of my favorite places to grab lunch in Tampa. The tacos are on the smaller side which means you'll have room to try more! Which I'm all about variety! Also be sure to ask about the #secrettaco! The one I had was the lamb taco and boy oh boy it was DELICIOUS! The order system is awesome is well! To get someone's Attention you place a card up and someone will come to your table! Instead of awkwardly waving your hand waiting to catch a waiters eye. Makes things much smoother! Also you should definitely definitely get a side of corn! You can also ask them to make it off the cob! Makes it much easier to eat. I've brought all of my out of town guests to have a meal here because it's just honestly the cutest place to show off Tampa! read more

What an amazing experience we had. My husband decided to make reservations at this restaurant for my mother in laws birthday and I wasn't sure that was the best selection since we were taking our toddler. I'm so glad he did! Their guacamole was perfect. So good, we had to order it twice. They have a "secret" scallops taco that is out of this world. So so so good. We ordered 15 tacos, yes, 15. For 4 adults and it was just right. They do run on the smaller side so if you are hungry prepare to eat like 5. We had carne asada, pork belly, scallops, shrimp and even tuna. There was not a bad one. They were all amazing. For my son I ordered a quesadilla and fruit skewer which he loved. Also, their margarita pitcher can get you in trouble. It is really good. Our server was amazing, I wish I remembered his name because he even gave us churros on the house so we could sing happy birthday! Definitely recommend it and definitely coming back! read more

Definitely my favorite restaurant in SoHo! Although it comes with SoHo pricing, the variety and freshness are fantastic! To start, we went with the guacamole and salsa verde with chips. As far as tacos, we went with a variety that included a pork belly, fried oyster, shrimp, fish, falafel, and a few others. While the tacos are extremely small they are very good! For sides, we went with the black bean salad and corn with cocito cheese and I also got a pork tamale which was delicious. To drink, I went with the old thymer which is kind of like a refreshing take on an old fashioned that I really liked. The place has both inside and outside seating, and the place opens up nicely and has an open air vibe to it. The managers on duty were very friendly and made great efforts to engage each and every guest while keeping the staff on point. We will definitely be back the next time we are in the area. read more

I've been to Bartaco a few times and still have yet to write a Yelp review...so here we go! First off, Bartaco is in Hyde Park. There are a lot of reviews that are complaining about the price of the food, but realistically, you're eating in Hyde Park. Nothing is going to be that cheap. The atmosphere in Bartaco is very hip and modern. It goes diverge from the typical high-scale Hyde Park restaurant. In regards to the drinks, I would HIGHLY recommend getting the margs here. Not too strong, but also strong enough to give you that kick before you dive into the copious amounts of tacos in front you. The actual tacos are delicious, my favorite being the oyster. Warning though, when they tell you the tacos are a one to two bite taco...they literally mean it. I ordered three tacos and ordered another round of three because I wasn't remotely full. However, this means you have the opportunity to try different tacos! Mix and match! If you're looking for a place to get a small bite or drinks, Bartaco is your place. read more

My favorite place for taco Tuesday for sure. The best margaritas ever! Always a good time and the best service whenever I go here.

My husband and I tried bartaco on Thursday night, one of the first nights after they opened. It is a great addition to Hyde Park Village. The restaurant is decorated really nicely, it's chic but casual. It's a sit down restaurant which I was a little surprised about after looking at their menu. I liked the system of displaying a dragonfly card to request service. To order, you fill out a card, like at a sushi restaurant and put it up with the dragonfly card. The service was good, almost overwhelming. We had a server and a trainee but several other servers also helped us. Our service request card was only up for under a minute each time. When I saw the menu, I was shocked at the low prices. $2.50 or $3.50 a taco? However I learned they are very, very small. Literally 3 bites. For 2 people, we ordered salsa and chips, 9 tacos, 2 sides and stopped for ice cream on the way home. The bill was a little over $40. Our server told us the portions would be small and we were able to try a lot of different items, so just go into your meal knowing that you'll have to order a lot! The salsa verde reminded me of Moe's with an extra kick. I really love Moe's salsa verde so this isn't a bad thing We tried the curry shrimp, chicken, fried oyster, Baja fish, Mahi Mahi, sesame beef and pork belly tacos. The Baja fish and sesame beef were my favorite. I didn't try the fried oyster but that was my husband's favorite. We also had the stewed beans with pork and chipotle slaw. They were both unimpressive, like something I could buy at the store. The chipotle slaw was just coleslaw with nothing Mexican or special at all. Bartaco also has several vegetarian tacos that sound really interesting. They have Portobello with queso fresco, falafel and cauliflower. I will come back to try those and get my favorite tacos again. I'll definitely skip the sides in favor of more tacos! read more

PROs Easy check in process with the app. Very cute coozy CONS The app does not list menu items missing until you're trying to confirm an order and even then, it's most frustrating. I placed 4 unsuccessful orders till my helpful server informed me that rice was unavailable for the rice bowl! I wish this had been made evident on the menu since we had our heart set on the rice bowl. Since it's an app, this is easy to fix and it's shameful that they can't be bothered to. I also received an additional 1 dollar charge that is unsolicited and unattributed on my credit card read more

Ok, I HIGHLY recommend calling ahead at this place. We went on a Friday night around 7:00 and it was packed. Had we not called ahead, we would have been on a 30-45 min wait, but with our call ahead, we waited maybe 15 min. The tacos are very reasonably priced and oh so good! The churros are definitely worth a try and you can tell they are freshly made and not frozen. We will for sure be returning...with a call ahead. read more

OMG, the QR code ordering is horrible. Food was delivered way before the drinks. Can't order a lime with your beer in the QR code. Staff doesn't give a shit if you have your drinks before your meal or not, instructed to not follow the directions of their app that allows each person to order from their own phone because it confuses the kitchen. Tacos are good, but, am I am not kidding, the smallest I have ever seen, seriously. Honestly the staff clearly does not give a shot about your experience. read more

Great spot for a date night for ladies night out. Definitely get the plantains and the grilled corn with Cotija cheese as a side. They were amazing. You can't go wrong with those!! Hey, my husband and I checked in here about 1pm. We were greeted by the host in a very welcoming manner. (Very comforting to us...we lost our home in Nor Cal fires and have moved to the Tampa area) Got seated outside... where our server proceeded to clue us in on the menus, drinks, etc. He was awesome and tuned in to our enjoyment! Yes, we loved the tacos ... had a variety...all delicious. The Bartaco Margaritas were perfect...(not often do we find perfect) We also want to give a shout out to ERIN... she engaged us in welcome conversation. This place needs a health inspector visit. Food was horrible, poor food handling. Idk how this place has 4 star rating....

This is our favorite family lunchtime spot in Hyde Park. If you have kids on a nice day, the patio is a great spot with the cushion seating. We always start off with the Guac and chips - be careful it's got a little bite to it. Then we love their specialty - the tacos. Our favs are the baja fish taco, the carnitas and the pork belly. Each one gives you about four bites of goodness - so order accordingly. read more

Amazing! Everything from the food, service, drinks was exceptional. The wait for a table was long but it was worth the wait

I really want to give this 4 stars. I really do. The wait was about 45 minutes on a Saturday 7:50 pm. Fine. We are lucky enough to shop around until then. We get in, everything is great. I had three tacos -- chicken, fried oyster and duck on lettuce. The lettuce wrap was not large enough to hold the duck and chicken tacos so there was a lot of spillover. We were served a plate we did not order -- plantains with aioli sauce ... we reported it and the first server said we could have it. Our main server came by, after we took a few pieces and noted that we didn't order that dish -- we told her what happened. She immediately grabbed the dish and sent it back to the kitchen . she continued to be grumpy about it, saying it was the party next to us that ordered it -- we told her that it wasn't our fault. The churros were OK. Best part of the whole thing. I don't think I'll come back unless I am craving something post-workout. read more

I love this place! It goes without saying that the food is delicious, I have never had a bad thing! But I actually came to write a review based on how fabulous our service was at lunch. I was there with my 4yo daughter and the servers and host were so welcoming, the food came quickly, and everyone was friendly to both her snd I. The foods great and service is also great too! My favorites: the chips from the guacamole, corn in the bowl, fish tacos and the mint chip ice cream! I enjoy this place a lot but i hate coming here because of the dogs. Eating next to dogs in the restaurant and if it's windy will have dog hair fly g around you and the food. Food: the food is great, the prices not so much. My friend and I shared a small order of guacamole. Their guac is delicious. I ordered the baja fish, shrimp banh mi, duck, and ribeye tacos. All were very good but you end up paying $3.50 each for a very very small taco. We each ordered two drinks: sashito, mojito, and then two hot spiked ciders. Each were around $8-9 and honestly I don't think there was very much alcohol in each drink. But they were good ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Atmosphere: open restaurant. I think it's an open kitchen? Not sure. We were seated on the other side of the kitchen. Everything is nautical themed. Open doors to the outside and big windows so it doesn't really feel like you're sitting inside but you are. Lots of small tables really close to one another, which I kind of don't like if you don't like hearing other people's conversations and vice versa. Wait staff: very nice and attentive. There's a card that you put up to signal your waiter/waitress if you need something. Pretty neat. 3/5 stars only because I wish the tacos were bigger, or the prices cheaper. And for the drinks to be stronger, or the prices cheaper. read more

Bartaco - Hot spiked cider: Apple cider + apple pie moonshine - Mexican Near Me - Tampa, Florida

"Mexican street food served family style" is how our waitress introduced the menu. We ordered grilled corn, plantains, several different tacos, and a sesame ribeye rice bowl. I wasn't prepared for the food to be as inspired by Asian flavors as it was. The atmosphere was definitely the best feature of the restaurant. They got our order wrong, probably because the staff is still very green due to the number of crashing plates we heard throughout our evening. The clatter certainly added some spice to the experience. As we tasted the different dishes we found ourselves elated by some and put out by others. Dishes we loved: chips and salsa, grilled corn, and plantains. Dishes we didn't: all of the tacos and the rice bowl. Kind of disappointing for a place called bar taco. read more

This was a fantastic restaurant! I've been there twice now, once pre-COVID and then again last week. Their food is fantastic. We tried the Baja fish taco, prime rib taco, carnita taco and chicken taco. They were all phenomenal, especially the carnitas taco...so authentic! For sides we tried the corn, chips and roja and plantains (which were the winner because they were tasty and the sauce they are served with was the perfect accompaniment). The spicy margarita was super tasty and I highly recommend it with its perfect blend of slight sweetness and spice. We had a child with us that ordered a platter from the kids menu and it included a quesadilla, fruit skewer, taco and corn. Putting the extra effort into presentation of a kids meal was very impressive and made our child excited to dig in! read more

Bartaco was a miss for us after it came highly recommended. It took a while to get seated even though there was no wait because the hostess was MIA. I can only hope the hands off/wait staff free ordering process goes away post-pandemic because something is really lost here; namely, customer service and the ability to customize an order/ask questions about the menu/ be warned about the spice level in some of their items. The margarita was good. The guacamole was decent but their "chips" are laughable. The tacos all fell apart on arrival and while the duck and baja fish tacos were okay, the chili-lime shrimp tacos were so spicy they were unpleasant. And I am not overly sensitive to spicy things. Overall, another restaurant that falls victim to trend over actual quality. read more
