The food was great and unique. The atmosphere was interesting, you ordered on your phone and didn't have to wait for a waiter or waitress. There was a cool vibe to the restaurant and the way you ordered food made things a lot easier as a customer. It was a little on the pricier side but there was plenty of options to choose from. Even though bar taco is a chain, it's one of those few restaurants that aren't a cookie cutter version of its sister locations. This Hyde Park location is great for grabbing drinks after work or having a quick bite for lunch. If you're coming after work I would definitely suggest being prepared to wait for a little bit because this place gets busyyy. The atmosphere/vibe is just great. They have happy hour Friday's from 5-7 as well, with some delicious cocktails and margaritas. During my visit I had the fried oyster tacos, the pork belly tacos and a couple of the steak tacos as well. The oyster was by far my favorite, it's such a great mix of flavors and the oysters are fried just enough to give it a great crisp. Love the atmosphere service and food. Moving here from Texas I'm always looking for a good freshly made margarita. Bartaco met my expectations. It was perfect for me. Made with fresh juice, not too sweet not to sour. Ohhh and the food was good too. Cucumber salad is very tasty along with the corn. I also had the salad and added fish. SPEECHLESS If I could review this place in one word, that would be it. I have heard so many good things about this restaurant and it took me way too long to try it out. The atmosphere is awesome. Outdoor seating with couches and chairs for all of the tables. The inside bar is in the center of it all and when the weather is nice, everything is quite open. You order your meal like you would at a sushi restaurant with a piece of paper and pencil. It's nice to do it this way in case you have any requests that you'd like to make known to the chef (aka carrot allergy like myself). For those of you that don't frequent Hyde park, there is a parking garage LITERALLY next door to bartaco and it's free. So don't worry about that. We went during happy hour, 5-6:30. It's just drinks but they are phenomenal. I tried the sanguina which is a hibiscus infused tequila with orange and lime. I had a few of those (more like 5) and never switched it up because it was that good. Then we ordered chips and guacamole and salsa which was all yummy. Everyone got a few tacos and sides. I chose to order the pork belly, duck, and sesame ribeye tacos and a side of corn. When I tell you everything was to die for I MEAN IT. My favorite was the pork belly taco for sure. The corn was addicting and I wanted an endless amount of it. The servers were really funny and personable and we chatted with them for quite some time. I will be back. If you are in the mood for some addictively delicious tacos or some finely-tuned margaritas (or both) look no further. Had a chance to come here with a few colleagues. Bartaco did not disappoint. Started off with some spicy margaritas. Freshly chopped jalapeño to provide the kick, so buyer beware -- these really are spicy. Generally these were fantastic, until we got to the bottom of the pitcher. All the seeds collect at the bottom, which means the last pour is not for the faint of heart. We decided to order a couple of appetizers and a whole gang of tacos. Tacos are on the smaller size (3-4 per person seemed to be the right number). Note not the appetizers: Guac was on point (comes with house-made tortillas). Same goes for the poke bowl. Ceviche was yummy but a little soupy. All important taco ranking: 1). Pork belly (order these -- massively awesome) 2). Fish taco (also order these -- lightly fried, perfect crunch and balance) 3). Falafel (also order these -- right there on the level of fish tacos, which was a surprise) 4). Lamb barbacoa (pass on these -- overpoweringly acidic and there are many other options on the menu) Docking a star for the service. Fantastic people working here (really personable), but all our meals came out at different times. I personally don't venture to Hyde Park often because I live in Lakeland and I try to not to be only speck of pepper in a sea of salt (really though, I need diversity in my surrounding, B). I arrive to greet my comrades and this place was packed. Friday nights are lit in this location, I guess... So, you have to order everything a la carte and they may bring your tacos on a tray with someone else's tacos. I strongly disagreed with that but it's not Tyrone's restaurant where you don't have to worry about other people's grubby hands near your goods. The tacos were good! I had some awesome pork belly tacos and shrimp tacos. No complaints on the food but the service is trash, yo. It took forever for my first drink and I don't really want to blame the whole staff but our waiter was cause of the delay. Later on that night, 10pm to be exact, we requested our checks... Queue the tumbleweeds and the extended slow motion sequence where we look at each other wondering where our waiter had gone. This dude was behind the bar conversing on the highest on levels. We don't normally hang out in this area of town, so I was a bit skeptical as to the personalities that we were going to run into. To my surprise, the staff was very friendly which I was pleased with. We arrived during a weekday, and we were seated almost immediately. We sat outside which had a great ambience. There was construction going on nearby, but since it was evening, it didn't really affect our vibe. Not sure if it would be the same during the day. We picked this place because of the veggie-friendly options. They had 3 variations of vegetarian tacos which was awesome... they were falafel, portobello, and cauliflower. I personally thought they were all delicious, and really really enjoyed the falafel (but I'm bias towards falafel). We also has the corn dish which was just great too. I found the way of ordering on the slips pretty fun and engaging too. A couple things that weren't the greatest if I had to get picky was that the food took a little longer than normal to arrive, and the churros were breaded very different than your traditional version. So let it be noted, my real rating is 1.5 but can't do halfies. Therefore, I say this because I've been to Bartaco many times before from when it's slammed pack for Friday Happy Hour to a weekday lunch/dinner. Well, yesterday was a dinning experience at Bartaco that left a very bad taste in my entire groups mouth. I'm used to great service (even when it's slammed) and that was not present yesterday (when it wasn't busy). Let's start at the beginning, we sit outside and now a days we ALL are very use to using the CR Code at the table, right? Well, they took a simple CR Code Scan to view the menu to another level that is SO NOT USER FRIENDLY! I MEAN LIKE AWFUL! Our group wanted to be all on the same tab as it was a BUSINESS meeting. Should be easy, well not anymore at Bartaco. So, we sit down outside and immediately struggle with the CR Code. We can't figure out how to combine checks so we start passing the phone around to order AKA NOT USER FRIENDLY. Eventually someone comes to the table with waters and explains how to order from our individual phones on the same check. Well, that turns out to be a HUGE issue. All of our food comes out at different times. 3 of us had food delivered at the same time, 10 minutes later two others get their food, leaving one individual with out any food (keep in mind she ordered 3 tacos like the other 2). We then ask about her food and where it is? "It's on the way" or "Let me go check". It starts raining to we move inside and STILL one person in our party hasn't gotten any food, while everyone else is done eating and they've even removed the rest of our plates from the table. LIKE NEWS FLASH PEOPLE- SHE STILL HAS NO FOOD!!!!!!!!! Finally, her tacos come out and she's eating by herself while we sit there. That's not how dining out is supposed to be, especially for a work lunch. We even asked an employee "Why is it taking so long? Do you all not have servers anymore?" The response we got was "No, we just scan the tables." I'm sorry WHAT?!?! You may as well be a damn food truck at this point. So Bartaco, why are you steering away from what has worked in the past and has made the business as successful as it was? Customer service is important and you've removed servers, added a terrible app to order on while still keeping your price point the same. It's not okay and INCREDIBLY unacceptable. VERY good! The tacos are fantastic, especially the brussel sprout one; if anything, I recommend you get more than one of those, I wish I had! I also got a cauliflower bowl which was delicious (the sauce especially) and very filling, likely due to the rice. Overall my total for a bowl and a taco was under $15, so definitely a great value for the quality of food you're getting HIGHLY recommend this place! I love Bartaco! Unfortunately this location is always super packed, so be prepared to wait. The nice part is they text you when your table is ready so you can wander around Hyde Park in the meantime. I love the whole vibe of the restaurant and how the inside and outside areas feel like one. The décor is absolutely beautiful, lots of wooden booths and tables with hanging lights and plants. It almost has a beachy/modern vibe to it. I don't think you could go wrong with any of their cocktails. Their margaritas are so tasty! Unfortunately, they're also expensive ($10- $12) which is a shame because they go down so easy I always want to order 2 or 3! They do offer happy hour on the weekdays though. I always start off with their chips & guacamole. Their chips are very unique and served in little disks that you break off and dip. They're perfectly salted and crunchy. The guacamole is fresh and has great flavors. Bartaco recommends ordering 3-5 tacos since they're so small, I usually go with 4 because I can never make my mind up. The tacos are served family style, which is fine if you have a couple people but with larger groups it can be an issue. I've had a variety of tacos from here, Baja Fish, Carne Asada, Chicken Pastor, Roasted Duck, Ribeye - all are super tasty! Carne Asada is probably my favorite. I loved their Fried Oyster taco but sadly they took it off the menu (pleaseee bring it back). You can also swap out the tortillas for Bibb lettuce if you want to save some carbs. The only reason I'm docking 1 star is because of the prices and the way they have the tables set up at this location. Every time I come I easily end up spending close to $100 for two people. Don't get me wrong the food and drinks are great but it adds up rather quickly. Also, the tables are seated SO close together. You can't walk comfortably between 2 tables, let alone have a conversation since you're so close to your neighbors. I wish they would spread the tables out just a little bit so you don't feel so claustrophobic. read more

Walking into Bartaco, for a small corner restaurant, it does feel nice and open. The booth my friends and I sat at were comfortable and spacious. Our server was friendly and gave some great recommendations for tacos he enjoyed. We started out with some chips and guacamole which were delicious. The guac has a little kick in it that I thuroughly enjoyed. I ended up getting four different types of tacos since they were a bit smaller in size. I wanted to try out different types and I was not dissappointed. The Duck and Rib eye tacos were my favorite by far. The meats really were just savory and delicious. The pork belly taco was also really good, satisfying. The chicken taco was basic of course for being a chicken taco but I didnt hate it. I frequent Bartaco a lot and it is always hit or miss. I love the atmosphere at bartaco on a weekend: chill music, lively crowd of people and still the service is always five stars from both the bar and dining room. I love their cocktails, especially the Red Sonja which is a citrus-jalapeño cocktail but I also find the cocktails to be inconsistent and taste different every time I order one. After eating here on five different occasions and repeatedly ordering the tacos, I have finally thrown in the towel and refuse to order the tacos. Other than the fact that all of their food is covered in cilantro(the devil), the tacos have minimal flavor and they skimp on the protein. I randomly ordered their chicken soup and a chopped salad the other night and was pleasantly surprised when it was delicious! I've also figured out that you can get a guacamole without cilantro if you ask for a kids guac (mashed avocado and lime) then ask for a side of jalapeños and onions. Overall, it's still a place I'll come back to on a weekend but Bartaco is not a place I'm telling the entire neighborhood about. read more

I give it a 3 because the food is phenomenal. I've given this place so many chances but every time im meet with piss poor service. I only ever sit at the bar. This last time I ordered the tuna poke, the pork belly tacos & the duck tacos. My poke & pork belly tacos come out with a mushroom taco, taken care of immediately probably got my duck taco in 3 minutes, however there was a bone or some hard substance in my duck taco. Strange? Always takes me forever to get a drink, the cocktails are yummy the food is great I just can't get over the poor service. Love love love this place. The ambience is fantastic, the food is delicious and has many options. Pricing is reasonable but prepared to pay a pretty penny for the drinks. The house margarita is fantastic, definitely a must try. They have a limited drink selection but it's more than enough for me. Also- the wait can be super long. Make sure to call ahead or get the app or you might be waiting a while. I recommend the duck tacos and the salsa verde for sure. It seems like they changed the salsa recently however, it hasn't been as good. Also the new chips they have are definitely no where near as good as the previous ones. Bartaco is the perfect place to come for a nice lunch, night out, just because etc! The inside and out decor/set up is so nice! They have a very open but intimate vibe. The food also lives up the building! The tacos are relatively small (street tacos) and when order all come on one plate. Their prices are shockingly not bad for the type of place it is and where it is located. I got the pork and steak tacos which were amazing. The pork was my absolute favorite. It was super juicy and drowning in flavor. I also added some sauces they leave on the tables. Not sure what it's called but it's the red one! To drink I got a nojito, which is a fake mojito. I added agave because it just wasn't sweet enough alone. Overall, I would come back when visiting the Tampa area! I will be adding this place to my blog website out my tampa trip. read more

Make sure to try the fried sweet plantains, served with a tasty green sauce. I would also recommend the coconut gelato. The service at Bartaco is good, every one is usually very friendly. If you are planning on heading over during peak dinner hours make sure to make a reservation, keep in mind, you may still need to wait a little while even with a reservation. BAR! taco!! So yum oh my gosh. First off, the vibes? Yes I felt like I was in cali eating near the beach. We sat inside which was a little noisy but also we were right next to the bar so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ could sit outside if you mind. The waitress and staff were so nice! They gave recommendations and actually cared what we thought of the food. They also asked about dietary restrictions which the menu talks about. All tacos are on corn tortillas so gluten girlies were good to go. The food itself was SO yum. Although don't waste your money on the avocado/Guac appetizer it was literally mashed up avocado? Not guac? Highly recommend trying 3 or 4 tacos tho to get all the flavors. They're small like they say which I love because I usually get stuffed by the two tortilla thing. I got the Ribeye, Lobster ($7 not $4 like the other fyi, and the Baja fish. Baja was my fav of that round but then I got the pork belly thank GOD. So yum melting in my mouth the sauce was immaculate. Came here for dinner last week with a friend, who has been hyping this place up for ages, and my overall takeaway in it was it's a cute restaurant, I like the decor, but it's basic. We put ourselves the waitlist when we left to drive here (20-25 minutes) and it still took an additional 40 minutes to be seated when we arrived. I loved the QR menu, and that you can order the food straight from your phone. Made it super easy to place an order, and somehow the waiters knew exactly what tables ordered what. You can also pay your bill this way, I hope they keep that feature. I loved my margarita, I found it to be pretty strong. The plantains were probably the best thing I ate. They were perfectly cooked, and I loved the dill sauce that it came with. I found the street corn to be too mayo-y, and it didn't have enough hot sauce. I didn't really like the salsa, or their version of tortilla chips. I ordered three tacos: I hated the sesame one, it was way too saucy and the flavor was overpowering. The shrimp one was OK, but I didn't like the slaw it came with. The pork belly was the best. I honestly wish I had ordered three of those.
