I love coming here. The margaritas are the best in the city. They use fresh squeezed lime juice and they're not sweet at all. There is a happy hour list, but the margarita isn't on there. Such an amazing spot with a really fun vibe for a second or third date. There are outdoor benches which can make it more intimate, since it is very loud inside the restaurant. Be prepared to WAIT. I waited almost 2 hours for a party of two around 6 pm on a Saturday night and I do not think it was worth my time (reason for 4 stars, not five). However, great location and plenty of things to do while you wait for your table, and you are able to grab a place in line on YELP beforehand, so make sure to utilize that feature. read more

Tacos - Ok presentation, tasty but pretty small portion. Glazed Pork Belly, super tender and tasty. A must! Chile-Lime Shrimp, generic shrimp with no taste. Ok Sesame Ribeye, a bit dry with no sauce. Pass Roasted Duck, plain with nothing extra. Ok Panachos - Need love with presentation, too much jalapeño on this dish and flavors don't really match with all the extras. I have been going to Bartaco for years, but this latest was the first during Covid restrictions. I'll start with the good. This place has a great vibe with music and decorations that takes you to laid back places, mostly beach related. They were all wearing masks and there is no waiter/waitress. You scan the QR code and order and pay your bill directly through your phone. They are available if you need assistance by putting a card in a stand on the table and of course they bring the food out. Now what makes this four star instead of five. The portions are super small. My first visit I ordered two tacos and no chips during lunch. I left needing to stop at another restaurant for more food. Now I order three tacos and a chips with salsa (the later which is not complementary like many Mexican restaurants)....and the bill is pricey for lunch, especially when a tip is added. And I still leave hungry! So, this restaurant is not recommended for people with big appetites. Parking also should be mentioned. There are basically three parking garages around Hyde Park that offer free parking, but they are a bit of a walk from the restaurant, so add that to your timing. Always nice walking through the village on the way to/from the car. Another caveat that I don't like mentioning because I don't have a problem with, but others might: due to popularity the tables are not spread out for social distancing. Bartaco is one of my favorite places to go to when I'm in Tampa. It is in a popular area, central to walk to around shopping, dining, and more. Parking can be tough, but it's worth it. Go to the parking garage. I recommend getting on their waitlist as they can be very busy despite their large indoor and outdoor venue. The ambiance is nice to look at, tropical rustic would be my description (I'm no interior decorator). The service is amazing, and your food comes out very quick. That's why it took me so long to try out Bartaco. I looked at their menu and decided that I'd stick to my usual places (Taqueria Emanuel is my local favorite, but Loli's will do in a pinch). However, Bartaco is opened later than my places, and they do work with some of the delivery services. And they have duck birria on the menu, and I just had to try duck birria. The order was small, but it's enough for a couple to share as an appetizer. There are two small tacos that are cut in half. The tacos are well pan fried in the consomme, and the crispiness of the shells held up despite being boxed up and delivered. The duck meat was fine. There wasn't a lot of it, and with the strong pepper, cilantro and onion flavors, I generally couldn't tell I was eating duck as opposed to any other rich meat. I think I had one bite where I could clearly taste that I was eating duck. All in all, I'd order this particular dish again, and I'd feel confident that I could order it for delivery or take out and still get a good product to eat at home. read more

The food here is amazing! The service looks a little different while we are all practicing social distancing. Once you get to your table you are given a table number and are told to login to their website and place your order online and enter your table number so they know where to bring your items. You do this for everything including drinks, apps, mains etc. while you place one order upfront and pay before you eat, you can place another order should you want more beverages or another taco/dessert. They did a nice job of still spacing out or order. We did an order of gauc before our tacos and I feared it would arrive at the same time but it came out first which is preferred. The guac was fresh and not spicy but you could taste that fresh jalapeño! It was served with tortilla shells that you break apart and eat. Super fun! Our tacos were just delightful and each were so creative. I had the Baja fish (crispy), tuna on a lettuce wrap, and carnitas. I loved the soy and flavors of the tuna on the lettuce so I think that was my favorite but the carnitas gave the tuna a run for their money! My boyfriend had the duck, fish and pork belly tacos. He said I missed out on the duck and pork belly! Next time I will have to try! My only con to this experience was the longer wait time than quoted. When we arrived they said 30 mins and it ended up being an hour. We still would have waited an hour but would have liked to shop around some more instead of just standing by the door. Okay so this place has to do better. I came here for a work event on a Tuesday and I just wasn't impressed. We had a big group of maybe 12 people and the food is served more tapa style. They gave us a sheet to check off what we wanted and then we give the sheets back to the server. My entire table got about 3-4 dishes out before I even got my first one. I ordered a salad and some appetizers and when they did finally bring my food, they brought it all at once. Also, the tacos...they are not the best in tampa. I got the shrimp and steak ones and they lacked so much flavor and were very bland. It's casual and mobile and you can still enjoy conversation without the rush of ordering while your server is waiting. I ordered: Fish Taco Glazed Pork Belly Taco Spiced Chicken Verde Crispy Oyster My absolute favorite is the fish taco. It's fried to golden perfection and the slaw brings the perfect balance to the heat. The pork belly taco was a very close second. The sweetness and flavor of the pork belly were appreciated but there was a bit of toughness that I wasn't used to. The spicy chicken verde and crispy oyster tied for third. I was a little underwhelmed by the two flavors. The spicy chicken was spicier than the flavor. It was still a good option but I don't think I'd purchase it again. We waited a good hour and change before we were seated so don't come here hangry! What's cool is the fact that you can check out all of the little shops and boutiques. Now onto the food! I tried both the key lime and the tres leches. They are both served in a small jar and have all the flavors in that single jar. They have mobile ordering from your phone, but there is still a server dedicated to your table if you need anything. They have cards you can place on the table if you need to signal your server for something. This is certainly ideal if you like the hands off approach of feeling bad about flagging down a server for an extra side of guacamole! As for the food... I love the Al la carte style of ordering! I took my gf here for a Monday night date night. There was a small amount of people waiting around 730pm. Even with putting my name on their app's waiting list 30 minutes prior, we were told it's an hour wait. About 30 minutes later, I looked in the restaurant and there were 4-5 tables open and no line. The couple next to us must have done 1 large order bc it took a while for them to get theirs and everything came out all at once. So yeah, place small orders. We got guac, rojas, and verde dip, plantains, mango margarita, spicy margarita, pork belly, baja fish, chicken, duck, shrimp tacos. OMG! Very delicious especially the pork belly tacos. They were out of this world! Baja fish and the shrimp tacos were very good too. I didn't like the duck bc I thought it was a bit dry and tough. The plantains were so yummy. Went to bartaco on a Friday night. Big mistake. We called ahead and got on the "call ahead list" only to be told that we would still have to wait an hour and a half. There is absolutely no parking and we ended up valeting in the very crowded downtown area. We ended up waiting and sitting in the "window bench seats" out front and ordering margaritas and chips and salsa. You have to order them on a QR code menu - no staff comes out there. We finally got our table only to see that again there is no actual wait staff and again you order everything on your phone. The tacos were yummy ( very small ) But good! Meh. It's an amazing vibe and was 5 stars in 2019. Hasn't been the same since corona. I enjoy their margs a lot! But honestly I'm so not a fan of the mobile dining experience. You scan a QR code that's glued to your table to order on a app/website hybrid. When I go out, part of the fun is being served with a dedicated server who build a relationship with our table over the course of the meal. Here, all staff kinda just circulate and check on everyone when they get a chance. Not sure who was in charge of the business decision to do this, but if it would have been me I'd def not have done that haha Tacos have also gotten drier every time I come. Street corn was 4/5. A little creamy for my taste, since I didn't order creamed corn. Manager was great though! I sent back a chorizo taco and he was very kind about replacing it with another ribeye taco Favorites are the ribeye and chicken (surprisingly) Guac was pretty good. Again, nothing spectacular. Bartaco has outdoor, dog friendly seating, which is the reason why my husband, our little girl dog and I came here to meet a friend with 2 dogs of her own, for lunch. We came here on a Thursday, a little before 1 pm. We were seated immediately outside after inquiring for a table for 3 adults and 3 dogs. After looking over the menu, we ended up getting: Chips + Guac, $9 prior to tax- This starter is served with a few flat, fried corn tortillas that you would break to make chips (the base of what you have for a tostada, if that makes sense). The guacamole was good but did have a little kick to it (just wanted to make mention for those who do not eat spicy foods, like myself). Portion is fine to share with 3 people (and a few bites for 3 dogs). Lunch tray special, $11 prior to tax- I got a rice bowl with baja fish and a chopped salad. However, when my food was brought out to me, I was served glazed pork belly instead (which was not an option for the lunch special). When I asked the server about it, she told me she could replace the pork belly with fish. I said it was fine and just ate it. The pork belly was good and tender. I liked the sweet glaze that was on it. I also liked that I had the option to get my rice bowl with brown rice and it was served with sliced bell peppers. There are also sliced purple onions served as well. The chopped salad was a good portion to go with my meal. I felt satisfied after eating everything. Lunch tray special, $11.25 prior to tax- My husband opted to have 3 tacos, one of which to be served on a bibb lettuce, for an addition $0.25 charge. He got baja fish, mojo pork carnitas and portobello (this one served on bibb lettuce). I didn't try any of his food but he liked it. My spoiled (or privileged) dog had to sit on the floor (please note that she only was sitting on the bench to take the photo with food since she is an honorary Yelp member) but there was spilled milk under the table and did not want to be under the table. Another employee brought out a blanket for her to sit on, which was very nice (even though I told her there is milk on the floor, the employee didn't seem to mind that the blanket would get wet and dirty) of her to provide for my little dog. They have jalapeño ones too (so refreshing if you like a little kick). There salad is unbeatable and I wish I could recreate it at home. The lightest, cleanest, most refreshing salad ever. I was really surprised by the lobster ceviche I ordered it was really really good. I had the chicken Verde tacos and some shrimp tacos as well and I believe I had some sort of beef with kimchi that was not very good to me. I didn't really tasty kimchi. The quesabirria was good with lots of duck meat-- the consomme that came with it was pretty heavy on the tomato imo and not the like consomme I've had in LA. I'd likely order it again if I was back, although my friend thought it was too oily (so be warned). - Drinks: Both my friend and I ordered margaritas which took some time to come out. In fact, our tacos (which we ordered after the drinks) came before our beverages. Bartaco is one of our happy places in Hyde Park! I always, without fail start off with their freshly made Bartaco margaritas and fresh guacamole. When Covid hit and it was closed I missed them so much I found out their recipe to make at home LOL. Only 4 ingredients all fresh!! Another delicious one that has been my new favorite is their Mezcal margarita, YUM! The vibe reminds me of a more coastal than Mexican restaurant which I dig and the staff is always friendly and attentive. I also love that the food prices are very reasonable. My sister, my aunt and myself went out for a quick dinner over at bartaco and were fluently impressed, the food was amazing and our server Zoey and mkenna were outstanding with introducing us to the way the restaurant worked and what was good! I had the Baja fish tacos which were excellently paired with the cucumber salad. A lot of the food had a kick of spice however I'll definitely be coming back :)! I visit here at least once a month and it is always a great experience. Even if something isnt perfect they are gracious and they make it right. So many places are hit or miss today, I feel like a consistantly great experience should be recognized. I went here with my daughter after work last night for some quality time. We had Guacamole to start. I reccomend the large portion if you have more than two people. It's very good and has a little kick. We ordered 4 Tacos . The Rock Shrimp Taco is a must try. It's got a great flavor and the lemon , parsley slaw is fresh and adds texture. The Pork Belly is my favorite. The menu says it's in a spicy arbor chili sauce, however I do not find it spicy, just amazing. Carne Asada is another "go to" taco and the Cauliflower taco gives vegetarians a unique, slightly spicy option. We tried the Duck for the first time and we really liked them. I was initially surprised the meat was shredded, however, it makes sense when you think about making sure the duck absorbs the flavor of the tamarind glaze. They do not have sour cream and it doesnt matter, the aioli amazing to add moisture and flavor to the tacos. The staff is friendly and our waiter Robert C deserves a gold star for being attentive and customer focused. There is also a manager running around everytime I have been here. Well, Yelpers, you came through again! I researched where to eat in this area, and you hit the nail on the head for an excellent Taco Tuesday! After exploring Hyde Park Village for a bit, i headed over to Bartaco. My original plan was to sit on the cute outdoor seating area, but no one was out there and I really didn't want to make one server have to remember someone was outside. So to the bar I went. I had studied how ordering worked and quickly filled out my lunch order special - for $11, I ordered the chicken tortilla soup and three intriguing tacos - the chicken chorizo, portabello mushroom, and cauliflower. My bartender came over with a tasty pinot noir, and i enjoyed a little people watching and browsing through my phone. Some area businessmen came in as well as some families and groups of friends. It was a quiet Tuesday after Thanksgiving, but I can tell it must get busy in the evenings and on the weekends. Not too long of a wait and my food arrived. WOW - the soup had generous pieces of chicken and was just the heat needed on a slightly chilly day. On to the tacos! Wow - keep in mind, these are street tacos, they're smaller than the overservings you get at a Tex-Mex place. They also have a lot more crafty flavor tucked into them. The cauliflower was a fun taste with a little kick to it. The portabello was meaty and flavorfull, and the chorizo was a fun texture with some smokiness. I wish I could go back to try the many other types they have, as well as some of the delicious looking appetizers. My server helped direct me to different areas, and he was most helpful and friendly.
