HUGE bartaco fan over here! Idk if I'm the anomaly here, but I love their ordering system via phone. It makes splitting checks and ordering more rounds of things so easy. This location is really big and does get packed, but there are tables outside where you can wait and place orders from a limited menu. The tacos run from $2.50-$4 a pop, and they are small, so it's not necessarily cheap. And most of the tacos only contain a protein and a garnish. But they are GOOD. The pork belly one is my all time favorite, and I love the tuna tataki as well. You can get any taco lettuce wrapped and they're all delish. Drinks are good too, and strong! If I could give this place six stars or 10 stars I would. Go just go there just go. I went on a Sunday evening but I was a solo diner so it was easy for me to get a seat at the bar. Otherwise the wait would've been about 30 minutes which isn't too bad. I was immediately greeted by the bartender Bishop who was my taco guide for the remainder of my meal and did a great job of making suggestions. There is an abundant selection of appetizers, tacos, and full entrées. For drinks I had a Mojito and a sangria. Both were delicious and sufficiently strong. I initially got three tacos. They are small bites so three small bites or two big ones and you're done. I got the fish, the chicken, and the shrimp for Round one. All were absolutely super yummy. So then I needed more. My second round had pork belly, oyster, and another fish taco. OMG. The pork belly I can't even tell you how amazing that flavor is. A little sweet, a little savory, a little crunch. The mouth feel and the tongue happiness is epic. But no I wasn't done yet. I went for round three and got two more pork belly. I wish I lived in the area because this place would be a regular stop for me. I only give it four stars because the service can be kind of dodgy. I usually sit at the bar, which is so hard to find seats at, so maybe that's my issue? The food though is always a hit. The couple of times I did order a cocktail here, I remember the reviver being a smash, some kind of gin mango mojito vibe. The only saving grace of our dinner was the fish taco and the Green Margarita. Both of these were delish and near perfect. The rest of dinner not so much. The chorizo is fatty and unbalanced. The tuna didn't taste fresh. And nearly everything was spicy (and I like spice... but not EVERYTHING should be spicy.). The elote, guac, and the chicken taco were pretty decent. The staff were great and helpful, but service was not. Bar taco uses a QR code ordering system, which in the past has been fine but it was pretty bad this time. We ended up needing the paper menu. To access the QR code menu, we had to enter our phone number, get a passcode, pass a captcha, enter a passcode, then select how we were paying (even though we hadn't ordered), and then finally we were at a menu with no descriptors. We then tried to check out using the app and I would go through entering my information, selecting the tip, entering in giftcard info, and then it failed. Tried refreshing and logging back in, same thing. All of these took multiple clicks to even try to check out. We finally checked out with a server, but we couldn't get anyone's attention without having the "card" up on the table. I love the use of technology and team work, but we only saw our own "server" twice, then tried doing most of the work ourself on their technology which leaves the tipping situation weird. Do we tip even though we used a bunch of technology? How do we tip when three different people helped us? Technology makes things like that weird. Bartaco has been packed every since they opened in Tampa! Expect a wait most days of the week, but especially the weekends! The nice thing about their waitlist is that they'll text you when your table is ready which means you can walk around Hyde Park village leisurely. Their ordering system is pretty seamless. You can either order through the QR code on the table or by circling your items on a paper menu. If you use the QR code and order online, you can also pay online. All good and drink come out relatively fast. All the tacos I've tried so far have been delicious! They are reallyyyy small tacos though (I'm talking two bites per taco or three if you're trying to savor it) so be prepared to order a few if you're very hungry... read more

Aside from ordering, the food was okay. Everything I tried was spicy except the guacamole. The guac seemed like just avocado and lime, nothing else to add texture or flavor. Would not order again. The salsa was thick but very spicy. The ahi tuna bowl was also spicy. For $10.50 it was quite small. The ahi tuna could have been cooked a little less. I also tried a lobster taco, again very tiny. It was $6.25 for what looked like shredded lobster meat. I added avocado for $1.50, and it was maybe 1/4 of an avocado slice. The prices are shocking for tiny portions. Once we sat down the waiter approached us and said the way we order is through an app or on a piece of paper. Finally went to Bartaco after hearing so many amazing things about it. We sat at the bar and took advantage of happy hour (the bar is huge). The bartender made me a pomegranate mojito to start and then I had a Paloma Fresca. Both were AMAZING with good pours and fresh hand squeezed juices. They have about 6 hand press juicers at the bar. For food we got 3 tacos each and a small guac. I was sad when my pork belly taco was super crunchy. I heard that was a fan favorite but honestly it was my least favorite. Normally 3 tacos and guac would fill me up, but I was still hungry. So we got the duck birria quesadillas. The quesadillas were probably my favorite of the whole night. First time visit. I heard all the raves from my girlfriend, who's been trying to get us in for a while. The first piece of advice before going is to get yourself on the wait list via their website. They do not do reservations. A cool little hang out spot. Great music and vibe to the place. I can see why it is packed every time we try and go. In my opinion, the music is a bit loud and could be toned down a little so as you're not shouting across the table. Now to the food. You can either scan the QR code on the table or use the paper order sheet. We ordered 1 of several types. It was recommended that we try the duck birria. Nice presentation, but I thought it was a but on the greasy side, but that's to be expected with duck. I did not notice a duck flavor and thought it was unexceptional overall. My girlfriend raves about the fried oyster taco. I'm not big on shellfish and usually will pass on them. But in the spirit of trying things at least once, I ordered an oyster taco. I thought it was a bit chewy, and it reminded me of the texture of alligator. Not bad, but it wasn't what I expected. I was thinking more like a chicken gizzard texture. I tried her chicken taco and thought it was the best. I had my chorizo taco and thought it was good. The fish, on the other hand, was unremarkable. I think it would have been better grilled. The panachos were a weird concoction that we weren't expecting. Under the mind of cabbage and other veggies was a huge serving of refried beans. It was served up the small fried tortillas. It was okay, but it was probably something I would not order again. Their chips and guacamole was awesome, though. Their elote was over the top delicious! I could have eaten another serving of that. Service was fine and not overly pushy or bothersome. It was a bit difficult at the end getting our check. At the end of the meal, it was $50.00, not including the tip. Overall, I was not dissatisfied with the place. I did enjoy it and can see the appeal of this place. It was my first time here. There's honestly nothing better than the atmosphere of the location of Bartaco. I really liked the food. The tacos were super small so we ordered like 5-6 tacos each person, a few people I was with ordered 9. The tacos were okay.. my two favorite were the glazed pork belly and the spiced chicken verde. Honestly, I got 5 tacos and when I was leaving I said I wish I got 5 glazed pork belly tacos. They were honestly the best thing on the menu. They also have really great guacamole. Since we tried almost every taco, beware of the shrimp ones. They are delicious don't get me wrong, however, they are SPICY. I couldn't finish my taco it was so spicy and it took me until I got home from dinner for my mouth and stomach to calm down from the spiciness. The staff is friendly but you don't really interact with them much because you order through your phone. I think that kind of defeats the purpose of going out to eat with people because you end up on your phone for a majority of the time. On the business aspect of it, genius because ordering is literally in the power of your fingers. Margaritas were great, tacos were good. I love this place, but I will say it might be for a younger crowd. I took my mom (yes a boomer! :)) here and she was so confused by the concept. She couldn't figure out how to order and didn't understand who our server was. She also had a complaint about her food and had a hard time knowing how to voice her concerns. I'm giving 5 stars for me and my friends (30s and 40s) but just noting my mom's issues for the 60+ crowd with the QR code ordering and not having a true server. It can be confusing for older people. When we asked about how much longer for our food to come out all we got was "I don't know" and second we asked about an order not coming out she said "it not my problem" horrible attitude the entire night. But i noticed it was just my table. Not saying it has to do with race but it sure felt like it when she turned around and gave much better attitude to her other tables. I am also a server myself. The atmosphere of this place is super cute! Lovely area in Hyde Park. It gets very very busy here especially during Friday/Saturday nights so be wary of a long wait time. You can join the waitlist on their website but you'll have to still go in person to confirm check in with the front desk. We checked in online but did not get to the restaurant in time because we had to find parking first. Luckily, the system messed up so we got bumped up high on the waiting list and we only waited 15 mins! The others had over an hour wait! We got seated by the windows and you order the food on your phone through a QR code. I ordered 4 different tacos: chicken, shrimp, steak and pork belly. Also we ordered the guac and salsa to split. I also ordered some pork soup that I thought sounded good. My food came out so fast. Long before my friends who ordered around the same time as me. Awkward. I waited a bit too long for them to get their food so my tacos were cold by the time I ate them. Maybe that's why I didn't think they were that great. The shrimp was probably my favorite because it had a spicy kick to it. The chicken taco was meh. Barely tasted the pork belly and steak taco. At that point, it was cold and I was super hungry so I scarfed down those two. The prom soup came out lukewarm. I was hoping for steaming hot soup but it seemed like it was just sitting in a warmed up pot all day. Didn't taste very fresh. I would give it 6/10. The chips and salsa and guac were delicious. The green salsa was especially good. I also got to try one of the street corn on the cob. It was all right. A lot of the cream flavor but overall. Good. My wife and I visited Bartaco for lunch earlier today while shopping at Hyde Park Village. Rather than waiting about 30 minutes for a table we sat at the bar. To start I ordered the Bartaco Margarita which had a nice lime and tangy flavor. To eat we ordered a selection of tacos: Glazed Pork Belly, Roasted Duck, and Crispy Oyster. My favorite was the Pork Belly which was tender and smokey with a nice amount of crispiness and fattiness, topped with a flavorful sweet glaze and paired with tangy pickled onions. The duck was tender and shredded and mixed with crisp diced onions. The oysters were juicy and briny, surrounded by a crisp breading and paired with a creamy aioli. Came here just for drinks to buy some time before heading to date. The vibe is fun and the restaurant was so loud because everyone was having fun, plus it was so full. The bar area is first come first serve but if you want formally sit down and if you go during the weekend make sure to do a reservation before hand. Their drink menu is on fire! And they have plenty of alcohol and mock-tails. I did notice to order food you do it by way of a checklist. That's different for me. I did not have any food but the menu looked trendy, fresh and simple. Everyone was so attentive, from the hostess to my bartender. Will def return for the food! Stopped by BarTaco for the second time yesterday and we still enjoyed it, so figured I'd share what we've tried so far! Apps: Guac + roja + verde + chips. Guac and verde were delicious! Roja was okay, but on a regular day I'm not a fan of the chipotle flavors either way. Ceviche - DELICIOUS. I previously read reviews complaining about the size of the cod in the ceviche, but I thought that was the best part, and makes the $9 price tag worth the cost. If you're not a fan of spice, I caution you because the jalapeños did have seeds. Tacos tried: Baja Fish - portion was too small for my husband's liking, but the taco itself was tasty. Spiced chicken Verde - good, but not a favorite. Seared chorizo - I was not a fan of this one. Sesame Ribeye - Asian style ribeye taco, very good! Pork Belly - I cannot stress enough how many of these tacos you should actually try. Delicious. One of the best things on the menu. The service is what it is. You order on a menu using a scanned QR code and don't interact much with servers / managers with questions. Our first time was strange to navigate, but on our return visit we knew what we were doing! That made it easier for us. The music yesterday 12/2 was a little too loud when seated near the bar around 10:30ish. It was difficult having conversations with our friend sitting across the table from us, and when they turned the music down around 11:45 is when we knew it was time to call it a night!
