Finally tried Barry's Bootcamp about 5 years after everyone else. To give context for comparison, I generally work out at SoulCycle and Rumble Boxing once or twice a week, and at Equinox. I was on a vacation (staycation) from work and saw a promotion (3 classes for $70 for first timer), so I figured why not. First time experience - the entire studio of Barry's Bootcamp Tribeca was incredibly welcoming for me as a first timer. I don't know what the other reviews are talking about. The front desk greeted me and explained where everything was. The shake bar filled up my reusable water bottle no problem, and asked me how my first time was after the class. Instructor - Kat was sooo awesome. I highly recommend her class. This was the only group fitness class that I've ever been to, where the instructor came over to me on my first time and explained how everything worked. She also gave personal attention and feedback on form during the work out, and asked how I felt after class. Work out - I went on Chest, Back and Abs day.. this workout was tough (in a good way)! It has been years since I've worked out my chest muscles to failure where I couldn't even do a push up, but by the end of the class I couldn't even do a push up. I felt good muscle soreness (the kind that leads to growth) for 3 days after the class. Studio - There are only 2 showers in the Men's locker room. There are 38 spots in the class. I live 3 subway stops away from this location. This is the main reason I probably won't become a regular at Barry's Bootcamp Tribeca. I sweated a ridiculous amount in this class, to the point where I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving the building without a shower. I was able to get one, but I went on off hours (Wednesday 10:45am) because I was on vacation from work. Overall, I really liked my experience at Barry's Bootcamp. The number one reason I would be back would be to take more of Kat's classes, and the friendly staff. The smoothie after class was also very welcome and delicious (I got Chocolate Peanut Butter with egg white protein - no dairy). The only thing holding me back is the lack of showers. It's hard to choose to wait in line for shower, when other classes in the $36 per class price range have 4-6 showers with no wait. However, if you live within walking distance, it's a no brainer, this is a great studio. I will be back (definitely to use my remaining 2 classes), and maybe occasionally after that when I'm free on off peak hours.

Probably one of my lesser favorite locations in the city. The layout is very cramped, no surprise as this is NYC, it it seemed excessively so. The red room itself was also by far the smallest studio I've experienced as well. Obviously, these things have no impact on the workout which is what matters! Checking in was easy enough and I found a panel of lockers on the lobby floor to put my stuff. We went in and our trainer proved to be dedicated, tough, and very clear about instructions and form. It was definitely one of the tougher workouts, it was arms and abs day (smaller muscle groups = less calories burned) but I ended up burning more than I do in a total body workout. I took a quick shower afterwards, and while the locker room is absolutely tiny and the showers were dated, all the amenities were there as usual. Will probably continue to go to my regular locations, but I'm glad I've finally visited every Barry's in NYC!

Difficulty: 5/5 Fun: 4/5 Atmosphere: 5/5 Cleanliness: 5/5 Recommended Prerequisites: Some prior expsure to interval or strength training My Tagline: The Gordon Ramsay of Workouts LOVE Barry's Bootcamp. Challenging but if you push yourself and keep going, it is extremely rewarding. The Tribecca one is my favorite branch so far. I've taken classes in Chelsea and in Boston but I didn't find them as challenging (of course also depends on the instructor) Either two or three sets (totalling around 30 minutes) of cardio on the treadmill then 30 minutes of strength training on the floor or with the TRX (if you're taking that class). The trainers are hard asses. They really push you and yell at you to motivate you. The atmosphere is great. The room is spacious and dim- lit red lighst. Almost gives a feeling of an underground club- makes me feel really bad ass. The studio is great, and professional. The bathrooms and locker rooms are very clean. There are plenty of showers, sinks and lockers so there's never a wait for anything. I highly recommend the TRX for an extra challenge. You feel the burn deep! Try it out. I think everyone ought to do the full Barry's experience with both floor and treadmill work. Hurts oh so good. REMEMBER TO PACE YOURSELF. You are pushing yourself to the limit for a little under an hour. Don't give it all away your first round. I've seen people almost faint because they did gave too much too fast.

Only 2 shower stalls. That's the one drawback for this club.

I started with the Solido class which was amazing and targeted glutes and abs. It literally flew by and I was sweating! Next I tried Savage, which rotated between 4 minutes of different weight training and sculpting moves and then 4 minutes of treadmill work. Their treadmills have handy guides for athletic levels and intensity and the incline and speed are easily adjusted. I liked this class and according to my Apple Watch, burned a TON of calories here, although I do not recommend doing this class fasted as jumping back and forth and the starting and stopping from moves and sprints made me quite dizzy at times. This class was on the first floor. Finally, I tried a Tonic class, which was very weights focused and had active breaks in between the working portions. This class was on the lower level of the studio. Each class has an instructional video ahead of time and moves demoed on the screens the entire time with a timer for the moves and timers to show your progress in the class which I really appreciated. The music in every class I took was always super fun and a mix of EDM, hip hop and Latin music. They also offer a spin class I believe called Stride and a boxing class called Jab The studio itself is amazing with lots of neon lights to set the mood, plants, tons of reflective details in the locker rooms and on the lockers and gorgeous seating in the lobby. The lobby has a bar with tea, coffee, some waters and pre packaged protein drinks. I do wish they had more of a selection of pre and post workout choices but I'm sure those will come! They let me know soon they'll be offering alcohol as well and free wine if you take a class on Friday! You get a hand towel for class and if you want to use their showers, they provide towels. The bathrooms are gorgeous and have amenities provided. Some of the best studio showers I've been in with plenty of room to hang your toiletries. The staff was super polite and outgoing and everything was clean and tidy. They even have a clothing shop with unique and cute workout sets from a Latino owned brand. I can't say good things enough about this studio and hope they expand their class offerings!

First time it happened I thought a homeless person broke into the studio. He also was hyper-fixated on me especially when I was rowing - I rowed through college & have done many a Regatta, I know what i'm doing - and didn't focus on any of the other 20+ people. He singled me out to make me feel uncomfortable and when I filed a complaint nobody did a thing about it. He's probably the person telling his staff to cross boundaries with personal information. A guy in the FiDi location kept texting me begging me to buy a plan I said no I travel a lot and can't afford a package when i'm out of the country so much AND he continued to harass me and even made fun of me when I rushed out because I had to go pick up my Mom from the hospital. He literally texted me laughing and being abrasive when I said I had to get out of there I have something important to get to. Sweat440 continues to harrass, cross boundaries, and illegally share information without consent. I'm sick of it and officially never going back i'll find a new HIIT option.
