Acrylic covering my cuticles, not filed well, irregular shape. Today is Saturday, my nails were done on Wednesday
Mia S.

Sophy did my nails the first time and they were about a 6/10.The second time a gentleman (not Barry) did them and the quality of the work was poor. He glopped on the acrylic and it is just a blob on my nails. The shape is weird too. Both times I didn't get a hand massage or any cuticle trimming and it's also very expensive. 70 for a basic acrylic set. Probably my last visit to Barry's.

I have Given this salon 5 attempt and the last time is the last time. I got my nails done for Valentine's Day at 11am 7 days later the thumb nail began lifting. This isn't the first time it happen. The nails look beautiful however they will barely last you a week and for 60 dollar I don't think it's worth it . There is no customer service so if you are used to a salon where you get greeted it's not going to happen here they will look at you carry on with their conversation then be like "appointment?" They never listen I asked for nude I get nude with glitter I ask for pink they give me purple they never have any of the colors you see on Instagram. I wouldn't recommend this place nor will I go back ! I've attached pictures so you guys could see

Sloppy paint and file job

Urgh! I was so excited when my friend told me there was a Black owned nail salon in Queens. Though 25 minutes from my house, I hurried over right after she recommended it. All I wanted was a gel manicure 1) I asked for round nails, she filed my nails down to stubs, and they're square (and some random shapes). While I looked down and saw and was visibly upset, she did inquire about what was wrong. But at that point what can you do so I left it alone. 2) They used a nail polish that kept bubbling under the UV light. The technician already painted super slow, and a bit sloppy. She first tried to send me under the UV with half a nail painted. So this made it a longggg process. 3) The way she filed my nails they're completed frayed and will chip in a few days I'm sure because of this. 4) This ugly manicure took almost 1 hour 45 minutes. How? Why? Beats me. 5) The smell of nail products is super strong in there. Salons that don't have proper ventilation can make people dizzy, esp. if you're prego. I normally leave salons right away with this strong smell but I assumed I'd be in and out in 30 minutes since there's no line. I genuinely hope this salon improves, I was eager to super my people but will be looking for another black owned salon until then. Update: It's now a few hours after my manicure and the gel cracked! Will be calling for a full refund in the morning.

Pretty job, painful process. If you zoom in, you can see cuts around my nail fold.

I just want to make a disclaimer that I am not writing this review to slander Barry's Beauty Bar in any shape or form but the truth needs to be told. I went there yesterday with my mom because I booked an appointment to get my nails done for prom. The appointment was at 11 AM so the atmosphere was calm and it was not crowded. I waited for the nail tech to get prepared which wasn't a long wait. I told her how I wanted my nails and she started right away. At first, it didn't seem painful but I did have slight stinging with some filing and what not. Then, I noticed she started to push up my cuticles. Now, I'm not professional with nails in anyway but I do know that pushing, clipping or removing your cuticles isn't the best thing to do. It didn't hurt but then she started to push too far back to a point where my skin was getting pushed also. I flinched a bit and all she said was "hush" (typical Jamaican response when they hurt you; I'm Jamaican American so I know). I thought the pain was over until she look out the e-file. It was too high at first and she realized my "ows" and flinching so she turned it down. I still felt it grazing and burning my skin a bit. Fast forwarding, she starts to put on the acrylics and she STILL pushes back my cuticles/skin some more. Let's not forget the edges of my nails too. PAIN. At this point, she sees the grimace on my face and explains that she's doing that because "my cuticles are really small and soft so she has to move them out of the way". If they are so small, why are they a problem? After that horror was done, I went to wash my hands. Right as the soap and water touches my hands, I felt burning and painful sensation around my fingers. I was on the verge of crying. I stayed in the bathroom for a while to run cold water on it to ease the pain. My mom came back from outside and asked me what's wrong. I told her about and the nail tech realized and asked me what's wrong. Then she told my mom the same excuse like she told me, causing my mom to be lenient and not seeing a big deal out of it. Now it was time to polish my nails. After all the pain and trauma my nails went through, the nail polish made around my nails sting very badly. I exclaimed with "ouch!" and she took out a stick to wipe the excess polish (which still made it hurt). Overall, the nail job was pretty but it was very painful. She saw that I was in pain but she didn't ease up. She still filed my nails very roughly and damaged my cuticle along with my nail fold. I know they would heal with time but I hate when around my nails/nails are cut up or damaged. Getting acrylics should not hurt. Period.

I was pretty iffy about this place at first because of some of the reviews i had read , but i was looking for a new nail tech at the moment . The Nail tech i had did such a wonderful job on my nails , she took her time and made sure they were what i wanted. I felt comfortable . The only thing was it was so expensive i paid $95 which i felt like i was being overcharged . But overall i loved my nails .

Such a poor job

Absolutely a waste of time and money. Got regular acrylic nails by the owner Barry himself. I wasn't impressed ,nails chipped two days later, polish got dirty, couldn't even get a fill in because the nails were coming off themselves . It only had been two weeks and it looks like I had the nails on for months. I always like to support the black businesses, but this establishment is just bad,no customer service,a bit dirty, and expensive. Definitely go somewhere else.

FUNGUS ! Never returning back here again!

Fungus on my nail from this salon. I'm disgusted. My first set ever was with Curt back in February. One nail lifted with him. Went back to Sharon for my birthday March 29th, today a nail started to lift and when I looked under it I seen it was fungus . Took all my nails off to find that I had fungus under 3 nails . Won't be returning back here . You think you pay all this money and you're getting the best put on your nails, Clearly it isn't good products being used . I will pass on the designs and pretty nails if I'll grow fungus under on my natural nail .

My worse nail salon experience ever! The girl that did my polish change on my toes paints like a 5yr old. I had to keep asking her to redo it. They do not use standard industry practices for doing nails such as soaking gel polish off with acetone. Instead they use the drill which is painful and to top it off I saw 2 baby roaches near my feet while I was getting the polish taken off my nails. I left immediately. Definitely not what they appear to be by the website.

I found found this place on Instagram and thought I would give it a try. There was a long list of stringent rules to make an appointment which was a turnoff (and not followed by employees because there were kids all over the place there). I decided to give the place a shot as a walk-in. I was seated right away with Curt. He was pleasant and fast. I was going to get one on the designs on the Instagram but opted for a simple stiletto so I can judge the quality of the techs' work. It was ok, I will update on the durability . Update: Very good quality no lifting lasted three weeks with no problem

if i could give this place 0 stars i would.. Yesterday i went to get a ombre full set and my thumbs were 2 different lengths and the ombre was poorly done. Than today I call to complain and Tania one of the supposedly " good nail tech" says i can come in and get them redone. But did horribly once again . I asked for long square nails & i get my left hand short and coffin shaped & my right hand longer than the left. I complain to her about my left hand & she says i should've told her before and catches an attitude to then tell me i can get my money back. Normally I would've said yes but my friends birthday is in two days & i didnt wanna go in with no nails but it looks like thats what its gonna be because the paint job is terrible and im leaving there unsatisfied and in pain because my cuticles is red and swollen . Overall horrible experience especially for 85 plus tip ! PLEASE LISTEN TO THE REVIEWS ON THIS PLACE ! I TRIED TO OVERLOOK THE BAD FEEDBACK BUT PLEASE DONT .

This has become my semi-regular place recently (I'm still slightly holding on to old faithful). I've been here about 4 times, all different days if the week and times of day and have yet to have a bad experience. I'm a stickler for cleanliness so the fact that they use disposable liners for pedicures is a must. I always do the spa pedicure which includes a leg mask, foot soak, 10 minute massage, paraffin treatment and callous removal. I do wish they used a timer for the massage, because depending on who you get they may slack a bit. My nails always come out beautiful, the polish isn't thinned out and the gel always lasts. The pricing is a bit better than my usual place which is in Long Island but the ambiance is less spa-like; it's what you would expect in Queens so it doesn't bother me. I've come here at opening on a Saturday once and the ladies waiting with me were all polite in letting them know the order of arrival, which is more than I can say for some places so I appreciated that. Overall, I'd definitely recommend.

Especially when trying to get it removed they properly cleaned my eyelashes before putting a new set on. I went two weeks before and the guy there did my eyelashes and instead of using the removal, he ripped off the eyelashes and when i checked my phone, it was a bunch of dirt and stuff and i asked him if i can get up and go clean it off and he said there's nothing there and started to put the new eyelash on it was fine but about 4-5 days my left eyelash was starting to come loose. Today I came in to get it removed and hopes for a new set which was $38 which is fine, but sad to say I won't be coming back to do eyelashes anymore. He applied way too much glue to them to the point i was in pain trying to get it removed. My eyes after it was done, was all red it looked like i was crying.
