the front office people are very disorganized. i called to pick up some teeth whitning and was told no problem. when i went in, she then asked me if i was a patient. since i wasn't, i was asked to fill out a lengthy form and then she'd give it to me (i wasn't buying drugs, just teeth whitner), after that, receptionist #2 (the much much larger one) told me i needed to make an appt. to see the dr. for a consultation. eek! methinks not. i am unsure how good the dr. is since i am not a patient, but i can tell you, after doing research, this place is very, very expensive. while i was filling out my form, there was a patient arguing with receptionist #1 about his bill. i got out quick. read more

Got one of those phone calls that is a parents WORST nightmare. My sons school called and said he had been hurt bad in gym class.Came down as fast as humanly possible to find my boy with his two front permanent teeth broken. Dr.Kami does not do the surgery part that my son needed so he sent us to another dentist in Berkeley by the name of Dr. O'Callahan on Regent St off of Ashby who was as awesome as Dr.Kami has been to me. We then went to see Dr.Kami afterward ( and this is the part that makes Dr.Kami the awesome dentist that he is ) he and his staff waited for my son and stayed LATE to take care of the cosmetic portion of my sons injury. It crushes a parents heart to see your child hurt and potentially scarred physically and NOT being able to do any thing about it. BUT it also makes a parent so THANKFUL that there are others out there that completely understand the bad situation you are in and they are willing to do what it takes to see you through it. So my son has his smile back and other then some pain he will be in for the next couple of days , he is ALL GOOD. So I say , Thank you Dr.Kami and your staff. All of you are awesome. read more

Yup, still five stars after all these years. I discovered I had missing filling and called at 5pm yesterday. They got me in this morning at 9am and I had a new filling in less than an hour and a half. Melanie was the one who did the work and she was amazing! The filling was in my two front teeth so I was worried about how it'd look but it looks GREAT! Also, Dr. Kami is a crazy injection ninja! I had to have injections in the gums in the front of my mouth (eek!). He warned me that it was a more sensitive and painful area than others so I was expecting the worse. They numbed me up so well that when Dr. Kami gave me the injections, I seriously thought he was only dripping the Novocaine onto my gums! I even asked if that's what he did. I felt NOTHING and I am the biggest pain wuss in the Universe. I don't know how I got so lucky finding this fantastic dentist. Oh, yeah, you Yelpers helped. Singing His Praises! I have been extremely appreciative and grateful for Dr. Kami's care for the last 27 years. I came to him for my first crown in 1985 after another dentist had botched the job. Dr. Kami is compassionate, relentlessly supportive and cheerful, and most importantly, absolutely superb at his craft. I always call him a "magician" because he can fit bridges, make (at least 12, in my case)crowns, and do the most intricate work so that it feels completely comfortable in my mouth and lasts forever. And if something isn't perfect - one crown didn't fit perfectly -he immediately went about the business of redoing it. He stands behind his work completely. I have had many dental problems, and I know that without him, I would not have the healthy mouth that I have today. During the last 3 years, he put in 5 crowns for 5 implants that I had. Two were side by side in a very tight, very difficult position in my mouth, and they came out perfectly! Honesty, I cannot sing his praises enough! read more

Dr. Kami is the best dentist ever hands down, he has such a kind, loving, caring, spirit + his staff are awesome. I needed major cosmetic work done + my Orthodontist referred me to Dr. Kami + I called Dr. Kami's office + sheduled a consultation + I met w/Dr. Kami + during the consultation I inquired about services + prices, I was initially discouraged because his fees seemed a bit pricey. I continued to research other dentists, however, I just felt I could trust Dr. Kami + the photos he showed me of work he did on other pt's reflected great results, my intuition told me Dr. Kami was the dentist for me. I immediately stopped searching for a dentist, called Dr. Kami office + scheduled an appointment to proceed w/my treatment. I use to be so self conscious about my teeth, which kept me covering up my mouth w/my hand whenever I smiled. Now my teeth look great, I can't stop smiling + random people keep telling me I have a beautiful smile. I just started seeing Dr. Kami -- went in a couple of weeks ago for a cleaning (it had been a year and a half since my last cleaning although usually i go every 6 mos), and then back today to have a cavity filled. I find everyone in the office extremely professional. I don't think it really matters, but his office is by far the nicest looking dentist's office I've ever seen. But most importantly, I felt as though I got the most thorough dental exam and cleaning I'd gotten in years. (They insisted I had to have an exam first, and then a cleaning.) I really appreciate that thoroughness, and I feel as though I really know how my teeth are doing. The filling today was completely painless. read more

I've had cleanings and a filling done here and they did their best to make me comfortable, and make sure my insurance covers my services. Dr. Kami is the best dentist I have ever had! I have been going to him for about 6 years now. The first time I saw him, I had an emergency filling that needed to be done quickly because I was in so much pain and leaving for Kenya in only a few days. He jumped to it and was so compassionate. He even called me personally a day after he completed the filling, to make sure that I was not having any sensitivity and was feeling alright. He always remembers my name and asks me how I'm doing. I have been all over the world and basically, my experiences caused me to be terrified of dentists. I came to Dr. Kami's office because I absolutely had to, another dentist put in a disastrous crown (note my first sentence), and it needed to be removed and redone properly. The office was very pleasant and relaxing. Front desk staff welcomed me and had me fill out paperwork (apparently you can fill it out online before you come). Dr. Kami spent a good 15 minutes just getting to know me - chatting. It did wonders to relax me. An assistant took X-rays, explaining to me what was going on absolutely every step of the way, regularly asking if I was okay, if I needed anything. Dr. Kami came back, explained everything in intrinsic detail and asked me how I wanted to proceed. No pressure at all. I set up appointments at the front desk for several issues, and got a call back later explaining what my insurance would and wouldn't cover (turns out I have outstanding insurance woohoo)! Then I got emails and texts as appointment reminders. When I went back in, the assistants at the front desk knew my name and then I was taken back to have my crown removed and the tooth under sawed away at until all decay was gone. I got some numbing agent on my gum and Dr. Kami explained that the syringe for numbing was huge and painful and that there was no way around it - but he talked me through it, and I swear I had zero discomfort - let alone pain. He said I was tough, but I just think he's amazing. Then a crown expert took over and was also outstanding. I can't recommend this place enough - even if you're not in Berkeley. Their services are comprehensive - they don't have you running around to get X-rays or whatever. Find it, get to it. The entire staff are just good people, experts. read more

Dr Kami is fantastic! I just had to write a review of Dr Kami and his staff after my experience there yesterday. I needed a dentist for my son who had knocked his teeth a couple of days before and was in pain. I called up and got an appointment for the same day which was amazing in itself. The office was lovely (and has kids magazines and really good quality kids books)and the staff and technician who took the xray were great and really friendly. Then Dr Kami showed us the xray and said my son would be fine, and afterwards asked his assistant to give BOTH of my kids a little goody bag. These goody bags were incredible - each had a (character)toothbrush, toothpaste AND toy car AND pencil and notebook AND bouncy ball AND dinosaur flosser AND one of those sticky toys AND stickers and possibly more as well. And THEN when I went to pay, the receptionist told me THERE WOULD BE NO CHARGE!!! My jaw is still on the floor in disbelief. Truly unheard of and I have no idea why - but this has to be the perfect dentist experience, surely? read more

I'm usually rather unbrave when it comes to going to the dentist. In the case of Dr. Kami. i found him to be an awesome dentist. Dr. Kami's office is ultra modern and state of the art. The staff where of a most gracious and thoughtful nature , making me feel most at ease. Dr. Kami originally saw me on a next day emergency appointment. I was prepared for the worst and upon Dr, Kami examining my sensitive molars, he pronounced I needed a night-guard. I had a nightguard, from a previous dentist, in the past, it was expensive and intolerable to wear. Dr. Kami, assured me this new nightguard would be comfortable and to my amazement, the nightguard was pro-bono. I came back the following week , and true to Dr. Kami's word , the nightguard fit like a second skin, What also made Dr. Kami, so awesome was his good natured acceptance of my Service dog. All in all , I will be seeing Dr. Kami till the good Dr. retires. No question , Dr Kami is the dentist to see. read more

As a child I was never a fan of dental appointments. It had been forever since I had seen a dental exam, so I came onto yelp.com and searched for a DDS in the area. I read the reviews for Dr. Kami, so I booked my first appointment and came on in. I was running late, the staff was very understanding and welcoming. The dental assistants explained everything that was going to be done in detail, they answered the questions I had for them. Then comes along Dr. Kami. I have to say he is the kindest nicest person ever! He recognized the name I put as an emergency contact as one of his patients. He said " Oh that's my patient, how did his surgery go, tell him I said Hello". I was so surprised, being that he must have so many patients because he is always booked that he even remembered my bf's situation!!! He isn't just a DDS who is there to make his share. He is a human being who cares about his patients. He gave me advice on what to do for my best dental health and said, "Well if you were my daughter, I would recommend that you make a pact to take these steps to better health". I was so taken back.. being that throughout my childhood, I was on Medi-Cal and the dental providers were horrible. They had no compassion when it came to pain or advice. Anyway, if there is a dental visit that you are needing to make, Dr. Kami will definately be the best!! You won't regret it and your search for the perfect DDS will end with him! read more
