I just moved to the East Bay and needed to find a new dentist. I went to another dental clinic first in February, and they quoted me $6K in treatment plans, which was outrageous. I've always kept up with my dental cleanings and exams twice a year when I lived in SF, and my previous dentist never recommended anywhere near that amount of work. So I was shocked! To make things worse, they asked me to pay $2k upfront in exchange for a 7% discount. That was the moment I decided I needed a second opinion. I did some online research, and that's how I found Dr. Singh. I explained my situation to him, and he was willing to take a look. I showed him the treatment plan from the previous clinic, and he thoroughly evaluated it alongside my teeth, taking X-rays and carefully working through each item on the list to understand whether the recommended treatments were actually necessary. We went through the entire plan together, tooth by tooth. At the end of my visit, Dr. Singh did not recommend a single item from that plan. He told me those treatments were not needed right now, that my teeth were fine, and that I was overall in really good health. He simply prescribed me a fluoride toothpaste, and that was it! Visited for the first time today. From start to finish, the care I received here was excellent. The lovely man in front called my insurance carrier for my account details (I didn't have my card), and personally walked me to the bathroom in the hallway (which he didn't have to do because his directions were spot on, but I still appreciated the gesture!). Meanwhile, Dr. Singh waited patiently. When I finally got to the chair, she was totally welcoming, kind and level headed. Rather than take the risk of incurring fees on my end for the second x-ray in the same year, she recommended that we wait. Excellent. She also gave me a great tip to focus my flossing on my top back molars. Done. This is exactly the type of lovely experience I had hoped for when I switched from HMO to PPO. Now, I'm paying about $300 for each bi-annual cleaning. Before that, I was paying about a quarter of that ($75), and unsurprisingly, the experience was awful. That office was crowded, rushed, loud and the doctor/patient rapport nil. It was well worth the extra bucks to feel really cared for. read more

I have a deep fear of dentists and had put off seeing one for far too many years until I broke a tooth. I was ashamed and embarrassed that I had neglected my teeth for so long, but Dr. Singh was wonderful and put me at ease immediately. She took care of the tooth and walked me though a full plan to get my teeth back to where they should be. She is kind, patient and actually painless. I've now been seeing her for a few years, and actually don't hate going to the dentist any more. She is truly caring, and of course a very good dentist. I trust her. Dr. Singh was great! She is sweet and truly made me feel comfortable. I usually am afraid of condescending dentists that make me feel bad about any cavities and such but she was so sweet, told me what needed to be done and things to look out for about my teeth in the future. She definitely wasn't there to get a quick buck- she understands students and she takes SHIP! The best thing is that she and the lady that works the front bent over backwards to make sure I got the work I needed! The earliest appointment I could get was on the Monday the week I was leaving Berkeley and they made sure they booked me the earliest available spot- even rescheduling someone to accommodate me. I've been yelping since 2014 and this is sadly my first ever 1-star review :( I've gone to Dr. Singh for 4 routine dental checkups since 2018, and the last two times I was stood up under some of the most deliciate circumstances. I had an appointment scheduled in June. Three days before the appointment, the receptionist called me to confirm my appointment (which I did). I reminded her I was 9 months pregnant, and would not be taking x-rays. Come the day of my appointment, the Bay Area is experiencing a 100+ degree heat wave. Given that I am too pregnant to drive myself and my husband is an essential medical worker, I was hesitant to drag me and my big ol preggo belly to the appointment on foot under extreme heat, but I did so anyway since I felt bad about having confirmed my appointment just days prior. Low and behold, I get to their office and the receptionist and her (friend??) were sitting there chatting without masks (during covid) and the receptionist hastily told me some excuse why the dentist was not in and I could not be seen despite having herself confirmed my appointment by phone just a few days prior. At this point it had been about an hour since I left home, was quite hot, and yet I was told I could not use the restroom because they were unavailable. And no water. I was surprised by how dismissive the receptionist was given that this was clearly *her* mistake ... and I was pregnant and a week away from my due date (mommas out there you feel my literal pain, right?) Buuuut... everyone makes mistakes, and I'm all for giving people the benefit of doubt. So... Fast forward 2 months and I call to have my appointment rescheduled before my insurance runs out at the end of the year, and since my teeth have taken a hit during pregnancy from calcium depletion. I ask the receptionist for an early morning appointment, since this is the only time I can get a part time sitter for my newborn baby (& nursing, etc etc). She seems sympathetic to my situation and schedules me for their 8 am on a Monday. Again, I get a call three days before my appointment (Friday) to confirm that I'll be there, which I do. Three days later, I show up at 7:58 am for my Monday appointment, and call their office to get access to their building. I'm standing outside their building for about 15 minutes and nobody picks up. I manage to get into the building, go upstairs to their 7th floor office, and knock - nobody is there. I wait and then eventually leave around 8:30 since I'm paying the babysitter by the hour, and it is clear that this office makes it a habit to schedule (and confirm!!!) fake appointments as some kind of sick joke to their patients with pressing medical issues. They didn't have to schedule my appointments, and they certainly shouldn't have *CONFIRMED* my appointments - *TWICE*, especially since I had very time sensitive issues (pregnancy, tooth decay) and both times I was left without the dental care I desperately needed for the entire year. If they weren't available, they should have just said so instead of taking advantage of someone who put their trust in their hands during a difficult medical time. I could have gotten the care I needed elsewhere, and now I wasted a year of dental insurance without being able to see a dentist. What's that saying? Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. Therefore, me and my family already rescheduled (no fuss!!) all our future appointments to one of the many other available dental facilities within a 1 mile radius that have 1) better reviews, 2) dedicated office/admin-only staff, and 3) newer facilities than this dental office: Dr Boeck, Dr. Kurtz, Dr. Tang, Dr. Smithers and many others with perfect 5-star yelp reviews. read more

My wife and I have been seeing Dr Singh for many years and our 3 kids have recently graduated from their pediatric dentist to Dr Singh. Kids are now (15,16 and 21). She is the most gentle dentist I can imagine. Very thorough and able to accommodate our work and school schedules. I called today because I popped a filling off flossing this morning. I was able to get an appointment to get it fixed, but what's more is there was genuine concern expressed by her receptionist. Dr Singh knows me as a person and asks about the kids each time I see her, she knows what my oldest is studying in school, etc. She is a very genuine caring person and just the perfect dentist. read more

The office is beautiful (beautiful views of Berkeley) and Dr. Singh is extremely kind and professional. I now recommend this office to all of my friends, and I will definitely be coming back. This is a pretty small and old office. There is a receptionist and the dentist, I believe the receptionist also doubles as the assistant sometimes. The space is quite cramped and the machinery looks to be quite old. I don't know, this office doesn't feel very modern or professional. That being said, I only came here for a routine cleaning and filling and I think, aside from taking a long time to do it, Dr Singh did a good job. She was clearly concerned about her patients and very caring. She also was very careful not to cause me pain when she worked on me, and the whole procedure was really painless. On the other hand, the cleaning took much longer than other routine cleanings I've experienced. Also, the entire thing felt a little sketch. For example, after taking the x-rays, Dr Singh held them up to the sunlight to view them. So that made me alittle worried - could she actually see what was wrong with my teeth? I probably wouldn't come here for a big procedure, but for routine cleaning, it was all right. Students who have SHIP though should definitely go to Campus Dental instead. read more

Dr. Singh is amazing! She is kind, gentle, and respectful. I've had some really poor experiences in the past with dentists, and I've been pretty anxious for dentist visits since. Dr. Singh certainly quelled any anxieties I had, acknowledging that my teeth were fine, and not blaming me for my overly-sensitive gums that bleed easily (which has become very standard for the past five years with other dentists). She did a thorough job and made recommendations for me to try on my own before we would proceed with anything else in the future; she definitely focuses on what you need, and in no way gouges you on unnecessary services. Dr. Singh is EXCELLENT. I was originally visiting another office nearby, but they told me that I need a crown for my cavity (for a cavity that doesn't look that big-- I had bigger ones before) and was charging me more than I needed to pay. I visited Dr. Singh and she told me that she can fix it with just a normal filling and she did it today, saving me a thousand dollars. Not to mention that she was really careful and didn't chip away more teeth than necessary. The best dentist I have had so far and will recommend to anyone. After seeing that Dr. Singh has taken over Dr. O's dental office, I MUST re-write my review here. In 2012, Dr. Singh had done a couple cleanings for me which were fine. She and the other woman were nice. However, in filling a cavity, Dr. Singh opted to not use local anesthesia. I didn't question her, I remember she thought it wasn't necessary. She finished the procedure and sent me on my way. Following that day, I felt that it wasn't 100% right, but time passed and I no longer lived in Berkeley. I continued to feel increasing sensitivity in that tooth. A year after that appointment, my new dentist took an x-ray and discovered massive decay under Dr. Singh's filling. He re-did it (WITH anesthesia!) and I haven't had any problems with it since!! To make matters worse, another Yelp user described the same experience from Dr. Singh. I want to CAUTION everyone about Dr. Singh's practices. (Or simply avoid getting cavities.) read more

I've been twice now for general cleanings. She accepts the UC Berkeley SHIP insurance, so cleanings are free. The appointments start promptly, she is efficient, professional and pleasant, and patients get a VIP view of the Berkeley hills and the UC Berkeley bell tower while sitting in the dentist chair. And, she gives little goodie bags of a toothbrush and travel-sized toothpaste when done. I haven't had a dentist do that in a long time. Anyway, 5 stars. read more

I have never waited more than 2 minutes to be taken in to get my cleanings. They accept Berkeley SHIP and will even tell you how much any additional procedures will be. Great office! Singh took over George M Oldenbourg Jr's business (he just retired). I'm a fan! I just moved to Berkeley, and it had been over a year since my last cleaning. I don't have insurance right now so I called around and asked for rates. It's a little hard to understand the receptionist's English but she stuck with me: They offered the best price I had found and they were flexible about letting me pick and choose my services (some dentists won't clean your teeth if you can't afford X-rays). With Singh the prices were reasonable enough though, that I could afford X-rays. Not only that but *she cleaned my teeth herself.* She was incredibly gentle and precise - I felt like a hippo with one of those little birds cleaning my teeth. It actually felt kind of good. I had my doubts about going to a less expensive dentist (what's the value proposition here?), and there are some things that people may find off putting: It's on the 7th floor of the funky old Well Fargo building (nice view of the Campanile), the light in the reception area is terrible and the little door that you communicate with the receptionist thru looks like something you'd find in Soviet Bulgaria. But, when as soon as I got in the chair everything was great. None of the selling products or pushing treatments that I don't need that I've experienced elsewhere. Just good dentistry. This is just a place trying to start up, that doesn't have the flash or dazzle or marketing savvy of other dentists. That means, if you still manage to find it, It's a pretty great deal. read more
