I usually have a good experience at this Guitar Center, but today left me in some doubt about their…read moreability to do business fairly. I came in to buy 2 D'Addario Humidipaks Maintain. They had a hard time finding them, but 9 were supposed to be in stock. Finally found 7, of which 5 had severely crushed boxes. Still full price! Should be marked down because of condition. I also wanted one set of NYXL 1046 electric guitar strings. Full price is $12.99 but the web site for Guitar Center listed them as on sale for $9.99. I asked the sales rep behind the check-out if they were on sale. When he said no, I told him the price on the store's web site. He checked it and I was correct. But he had to get the manager to verify and change the price. I told him that the advertised price was what he was obligated to charge. There were no restrictions at all listed. After he stepped away, another rep told me that only the Balanced Tension were on sale, and oops, they are out. He tried selling me up, but they were out of the Balanced Tension too. Finally the first rep came back and said that I was correct and the price for any NYXL strings was $9.99. He insisted on using his phone to ring this up and that was where the problem happened. So after he arrived at the total, I verified the price.."two Humidipaks for $25.99 each and one set of NYXL strings for $9.99?" He confirmed with, "That's right". On the way home I checked my receipt, and I saw that he charged me $11.99 for the strings plus tax. Too little for me to go back and get my money, but enough to really seriously aggravate me. My advice, check your receipt before leaving the store. And for this particular crew in the store today (12/11/2025) , take a class on customer service!!!

Due to a mix up, the amp was sold to someone else over the weekend. Matt came to my rescue and gave me a great deal on a brand new amp. Everyone I spoke with was happy, kind, and helpful!. Really a great store and group of people!

Not a bad selection (best in Boone), and prices aren't bad. However, I'm only giving 2 stars…read morebecause the repair work I've had done here was HORRIBLE. First, I took a friend's acoustic by for a setup. When it came back, it was actually worse. Buzzing on multiple frets and the already high action was higher. The electronics in the guitar had been disconnected as well, so I had to take it back and pay to get them soldered back in place. Next, I took a very nice Gretsch electric I just purchased for a setup (to give him a second chance). This guitar came back from the setup with no buzzing and a nice action, but the intonation was so almost a half step out on the higher frets. I couldn't play it because it sounded so horrible, and I had to take it down to Hickory to a very experienced luthier I know to get it straightened out. Finally, my roommate has a nice Martin ($2000 retail) that he took by for a setup a while back. The action was OVER " at the 12th fret, and his Fishman pickup (that he had post-market installed) was no longer working. I took the guitar back to my pro luthier in Hickory to once again straighten out the mess. Turns out, AMS for some reason placed shims under the bridge of the guitar to raise the action. These shims weren't allowing the undersaddle pickup to work, and had to be removed. After getting the guitar back from the pro luthier, the action was perfect and the pickup sounded great. AMS originally claimed that the guitar was not well made so that was as low as the action could go (at almost ¼"!!! and it was a nice Martin!!!). That being said, I will continue to buy accessories and strings from them. Their staff is very helpful and friendly, thus why I'm giving 2 stars and not 1. However, I will NEVER get them to do any work on my instruments ever again. (Just to clarify, I am perfectly knowledgeable and capable of setting up my own guitars, but I unfortunately don't have time to do so.)

They didn't have the finish I was looking for so he offered to order it for me and after a couple weeks I was just informed by the owner it shipped from the manufacturer today and I am thrilled to soon be holding my new favorite guitar! Thanks to Bobby and the guys at Appalachian Music! Fan for life here!
