    Salton Sea Visitor Center

The Salton Sea State Recreation Area Visitor Center was our first stop at the Salton Sea, driving…read moredown from Palm Desert. I wasn't sure if it would be worth the $7 fee or a waste of time, but it ended up being my favorite stop of the day. We actually came back again later that afternoon on our way north. The two rangers working when we visited were awesome. George Caruso and another ranger whose name I didn't catch were seriously amazing. Friendly, warm, welcoming, and a wealth of knowledge. They suggested we stick to the east side of the lake rather than trying to circle it, since the western side turns into more of a freeway drive with less connection to the water. That advice worked out perfectly and really shaped our day. The visitor center itself is great. Inside there are maps, artifacts, wildlife information, a short 10-minute video, and a small gift shop. It's not huge, but it's informative and gives helpful context before heading out. Outside, there's easy beach access with a long stretch of shoreline to walk and take in the lake. Up close, there is a bit of a smell, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. We saw a few small shorebirds, though not as many as I thought we might. Facilities are solid: clean restrooms, water, shade structures, picnic tables, and plenty of parking. The fee covers day use, so it's a good place to take a break and regroup. If it's your first time visiting the Salton Sea, this is a must stop right out of the gate. Definitely worth it. 5 stars!

Ask to watch the video from when the area was the "next Palm Springs." Car camp at New Camp (hot showers & flush toilets!). Walk a mile south to the next campground & back, when you slow down & walk, you really start to see things. Obviously think twice about visiting in the summer but definitely visit this winter. While you're there, drive down to Bombay Beach, and up over the dike to see the art exhibits. Visit the Sonny Bono Wildlife Refuge on the S/E corner. Find the mud pots & mud volcanoes. Eat at Chelo's at the Mecca Arco. And, pro tip, if you're camping at New Camp, buy tokens for the showers when you're at the visitor center.

From the incredible places we stayed, to the incredible people we met, both working with passion, learning about their way of living, From the sun rises to the sunsets, to the stars, twinkling in the sky and learning about the constellations, Kim did an incredible job of planning it all out. I love the independence that my friend and I had as we traveled, and yet we're taking care of every step of the way. Kim, you rock, and it was a perfect holiday with so much to see and experience. At first when I went to Africa, I thought I want to see the animals and we saw the big 5+ so much more. And then I finally got in the groove of it, and didn't just see them, but witnessed them in their natural habitat. the places we stayed were absolutely incredible. Each one had its own experience. The food was incredible at every single place we stayed. What more can I say.? Kim will take good care of you just do it. And don't forget to smell the flowers along the way.

Conservation and community development are a priority for World Tribe Tours and we experienced it first-hand with a visit to an elephant rescue and sanctuary included in our itinerary as well as a visit to a local school in Victoria Falls where we were able to provide school supplies and a soccer ball that Kim suggested we bring when we asked how we could contribute. Kim took special care in making sure our needs were met and we were taken care of every step of the way. Going to Africa can be daunting but we felt safe and like VIPs throughout our entire trip. Thanks Kim! I will definitely recommend my friends book their travel through you.

Barcelona started at a tapas bar where we chose tapas from a buffet in a rustic atmosphere of archways made of giant stones, Then a Barcelona tour that included architecture from the Roman era to Gaudi's creations and a view of America's Cup race in the Marina. A train took us to Alicante where we stayed in a Palace that was 100 feet away from the plaza full of sidewalk cafes! Paid a visit to the Miguel Cervantes tribute (Author of Don Quixote), the plaza, and marina. Next was Seville, where we took a tour and stopped at a Pizza restaurant -- walked around some landmarks, and prepped for our 4 days in Madrid. There we had an amazing Tapas and Wine Tour, visited Prado Museum, and other historical sites, and yes, discovered some amazing cafe/restaurants right around the corner from our hotel. Found the best Paella in Spain, discovered new wines, and found a restaurant "Jardin Secreto" overlooking the plaza. (from a list of hidden dining gems thanks to tour guide Patricia Willems.) There is no way I could have arranged or found everything myself. It was definitely a one-of-a-kind experience.
