Solid neighborhood hang! To call it a bar is somehow selling it short. It has a bar with lots of beer and liquor. But it also has a robust bourbon menu that is ripe for tasting if you're into that sort of thing. It has what you might call "bar food." And yet, the food is a cut above. Cheeseburger is delicious, patty melt is excellent. French fries so thin and crispy even Ronnie McD is blushing. This most recent trip I dove in and had myself some lemon pepper wings -- excellent. An anomaly. A bar that goes for a rugged rough around the edges look and yet delivers such a wonderful experience. Catching up on reviews. This one is about Barrel Proof in Germantown. Have been here a few times and enjoyed every moment. Atmosphere is a bit dark. Music fairly loud, but not overbearing. I love the general vibe of the place. I saw someone else talking about validation for 2 hours for parking, which is good. You can also find free parking a few blocks away in Germantown. Sat at the bar and the bartenders are very attentive. No issues with the service. I had the chicken sandwich, as it was highly recommended. And this is a huge sandwich for the price. Very succulent bird. Another positive is the fact they have ponies for $2 (at least they were when we went months ago). THey also do a decent espresso martini. A friend and I came here to celebrate. She's a big scotch fan, so this seemed like a perfect place. Their selection is enormous! When first arriving, things are a bit confusing. There was no host and no servers. You order at the bar and then you go to the kitchen window to pick up your own food when your pager goes off. I had a frozen margarita: delicious! For food I had a burger and fries. The fries reminded me of McDonalds. The burger was cooked just right. I'd give the burger a 4/5. I went here for a post work happy hour and was so pleasantly surprised! The big Nashville question first - parking! There is a lot behind the building dedicated to parking and will provide validated parking for 2 hours. We ended up staying more than 2 hours and the bartenders were so kind about getting another validation code so we could stay longer. Drink/food choices - I appreciated the fun Dry January cocktails! My drinking friends also enjoyed their cocktails. We got some snacks - the wings, the loaded fries - and all were great and fast. We were there on a weeknight but it was easy to find a table and will be even better when it is patio weather - will definitely be back! read more

Crazy strange atmosphere. Went on a busy Saturday night and the place was packed, long lines for the bar, bartenders clearly just wanted to move through people, and it was super loud. We lucked out and got a table big enough for our group but wouldn't have been able to play pool, I think there were 30 people waiting to play. Didn't get food but the drinks were ok. Mixed reviews on the old fashioned, people liked the margarita, no one liked the espresso martini (from a dispenser). If I come back it will probably be mid day. Pros - it is dog friendly! read more

We were looking for a good cocktail spot while in Nashville, and this one came up on Yelp. Upon walking and getting to the place it looked very familiar. After going inside and talking to the bartender, we then realized that this is a sister location of the barrel proof in New Orleans. We were very excited to hear that because the one in New Orleans was amazing. Even though it was New Year's Eve, they were very attentive to us, and answered all of our questions. They still hadn't had their grand opening and we're just open for a little over a week. However, everybody was on top of their game, and they made some amazing cocktails. We walked in, sat down, and were ignored. The place only had 3-4 customers. Bartender made eye contact, grabbed 3 menus then set them down and proceeded to have a casual conversation with a regular. Great little bar in Germantown! My wife and I stopped in for a cocktail before a Nashville Sounds game. They are just outside the stadium and it is a great place to grab a drink before heading to the game. We visited during happy hour. There was a small crowd, but nothing crazy. The bartenders were all very friendly and helpful. Jackie took care of us, and he was great! My wife had a happy hour mini frozen margarita, which was very tasty. I opted for an Old Fashioned, and it was one of the best I've had. Oh, and it was just $7 during happy hour. As I watched Jackie make my cocktail I knew it was going to be good. These folks obviously care about their craft and it shows in their level of service and the quality of the drinks. Another couple sitting near us were also in for the first time and they commented on how great everything was. This will be a go-to spot for us whenever we attend a Sounds game or when we are just exploring Germantown. read more

Not a complete whiskey connoisseur but man do they have a selection... and the best part is there was not pretentiousness about it. The place is dum lit and has a good amount of bar seating with space to stand behind. Great atmosphere and cocktails for the whiskey lover and those who are dragged along. I feel like it would have been a better experience if I hadn't come on a Saturday evening. I was expecting a lower-key, & more serious whiskey bar, but the atmosphere was more club-ish, with loud music aimed toward the Millennial (not an insult - I am one!) crowd. We were visiting from Dallas to check a Nashville Predator game off our list, and my husband to buy a guitar. I really enjoy bourbon and was looking forward to trying some while in Nashville. We walked to the tailgate brewery from our Airbnb for some local brews. We enjoyed trying their different local beers and Sam from the tailgate recommended us to try barrel proof knowing I liked bourbon. By the way, the ladies at tailgate brewery were also pretty amazing. And Sam was right, we absolutely loved this bar! It was a little confusing at first when you're standing behind the packed bar full of locals, and the bartenders are all really busy, so you're not sure how to get their attention. But they seriously have the best bartenders that are extremely friendly and devote their time to you like there is no one else but you, but yet stay very active and treat everyone equally. They must have a fantastic owner to give them such freedom to enjoy their work. I honestly wished I remembered all their names but there was a long blond haired lady there that I just loved so very much. She is such a pleasant person that I am so mad I can't remember her name. I don't even have a picture of her, but she has a couple pictures in the pics that yelp has posted from other people. I'm telling you that girl was fantastic. She was so patient with me and helped me with multiple local selections to try. One of the male bartenders that is in the picture holding the shot glasses actually helped make us comfortable when we first got there by waving a menu up above all the crowd so we could see that he sees us. After that we were planted for over 2 hours. While there, I complemented the man to the lovely lady that was helping us and when she told him he came over and took shots with us. I honestly wished we had this bar within walking distance of my house like we had from the Airbnb. Well maybe not, I think in the two nights we went there over the four we were in Nashville, we probably spent $500 bucks because of all the different bourbons and drinks we tried and we tip well too. This place is a perfect balance between Neighbors and Geist - more casual than Geist but less dive bar than Neighbors. The perfect place to stop by for a drink before a sounds game or show at Brooklyn Bowl. The cocktails and delicious. We went for happy hour and tried the mini frozen margarita and it was so refreshing! We also ordered the loaded fries. We stopped in for some food and a drink around 11pm. The bartenders were friendly and attentive. You order your food at a little window by the kitchen. Great, easy set up. The only option was burger and fries. The burger was hands down the best burger I've had in Nashville. I thought the prices were decent and the place had a fun, light vibe. Food was good however the menu is confusing. The menu online is different from what's in house. The way you're supposed to order is weird as well. "Ring bell and order" no waiter/waitress. The bell you are supposed to ring was hidden because the kitchen didn't feel like working. Not really a bourbon bar at all. They were out of all the staple bourbons like eagle rare, buff trace, and EHT. Seem as if they cater more towards the night life than what is advertised. Overall disappointing. BP exhibits top notch service, pro bartenders, a classy yet warm environment from this New Orleans based concept. This may be skewed a bit positive by the fact that Sam Adams Octoberfest was on tap ( and an even better deal at happy hour) but in addition as a rye/ high rye bourbon fan I can say that a very nice variety was on offer so for those curious or new you could have some fun trying a couple pours you might not find readily available at your local store. Spacious and comfortable seating and the very pleasant staff complement the experience. Highly recommended for drinks away from the hectic Broadway scene yet only steps away. read more
