I'll be dreaming about my meal here for months to come. By far the best overall dining experience I've had since moving to Nashville 2 years ago, and not for the lack of having tried countless esteemed establishments in the area. My husband booked a reservation for my birthday and dinner was truly a gift. We were seated at the bar and were able to see each dish being carefully prepared in front of us. Each team member made sure to introduce themselves before presenting us with detailed information about the following course. The various wine pairings were all amazing in their own unique way. There were several creative bites that stood out to me. A refreshing medley of melon and raw oyster to start out was surprisingly sweet and nothing like the usual acidic mignonette I've come to expect with oysters. The beef tartare with salmon roe and kiwi was well balanced and interesting in flavor, and interactive with modifiable textural elements in each bite. I would have never guessed that coffee and lemon would complement each other for a palate cleanser nor that a palate cleanser would be memorable the next day, but alas.... Finally dessert had one more unexpected combo with a spruce ice cream and jammy strawberries but it was perfection to end the meal. As impressive as the creativity was, the execution and attention to detail in the cook, plating and explanation of each dish as it was presented to us was even more appreciated. The delicacy and decadence of both the trout and Wagyu courses cannot be understated. I also adored the candle in the chess pie microslice. Well done, Bastion. I hope we will be back soon! read more

We came in on a Friday when the Big Bar was crazy busy. I was immediately overwhelmed and didn't know what to do or where to go for the dinner part. Thankfully, someone noticed me sitting and came right over to let me know they'd move us to the Little Bar once seats were available. I relaxed after that and enjoyed the ambiance. We sat at a cool retro two top video game console. That was fun - I'll definitely come back to enjoy nachos at the bar when less busy. The little bar was cool - we enjoyed how intimate it felt and the bartender was really nice. I do wish they had a few more cocktail options on the menu. Dinner was amazing. I was sad we didn't get to sit at the counter where the chefs were though. I had asked in my reservation but oh well, next time. Each course was unique and had a strange and bizarre mix of things you wouldn't think would go together (Mushroom cake, what???). But everything worked. The only dish I didn't enjoy was the raw trout and that's just a texture thing for me - the hubby loved it. Wow! What an experience! This was my first time at a Michelin star restaurant and it DID NOT disappoint! This tasting menu was amazing! Some of the best food I've ever tasted! From the Speak easy vibe of the restaurant, to the private bar for dine in only, to all the little details in each tasting! It was all so great! My top favorite was the salmon that was cooked over this hot coal oven. It literally melted in your mouth like butter. The salmon was also fresh from New Zealand. My favorite dessert was the sunchoke shaved cookie! I have never had something like this before! It was sweet but savory all in one bite! The presentation was 10/10! My favorite starter was between the tiger mussel and the oyster, but all were good! The oyster had this nice crunch from the bacon and the sauce tasted like the best Italian dressing you've ever had! Every dish was paired super well visually with the plating, perfect timing and wine pairing (if you got it). The dessert pairing wine was my favorite (brandy wine). It was so smooth and not too sweet. The servers and chefs were all amazing! Explained all the dishes and origins of wine tastings. Truly an u forgettable experience. The setting was super cool-- we loved the record player, plants, and urban aesthetic. The food left us speechless. My favorite bite was the kanpachi-- so fresh in a bright, earthy sauce. My partner and I had a lovely dinner at Bastion on Thursday night and highly recommend the tasting menu experience. It's been on my personal "want to try" list for a while, and I decided to go to celebrate my birthday. The location is tucked away in Wedgewood Huston, and like most places in that area...parking is always tough. The good news is Bastion validates for a specific lot caddy corner to their front door. The location is a bar up front with its restaurant tucked away to the side through a separate door. The overall vibes were VERY different between the two spaces. We were greeted promptly, and taken to a smaller, intimate (and quieter) bar after the entrance to the restaurant portion of the building. Here we chose a few drinks to relax and chat as we waited for dinner. I tried the Since Easter, which is a mixture of bourbon, potato chip (infused into the bourbon), Amaretto, and Armagnac. The drink was liquor-forward, served up, and the slight hit of salt from the potato chip was a nice add. After about 15 minutes, we were moved to the dining room, where we sat around a large counter and watched the preparation happen right in front of us. The space felt intimate, comfortable, and we received friendly greetings from the entire staff. Since we already had a drink in hand, we opted to split the wine pairing offered with the tasting menu. The team split each poor between two glasses for us, and it was plenty to take us through the tasting menu. The tasting menu is seasonal, and my favorites from this offering was the crab scallion salad, the black hawk tri-tip, and the scallop with hazelnut and buttermilk. Every plate was packed with flavors that complemented each other, yet also made it interesting and memorable. You could taste how much prep work went into every element that was put on each plate. The dinner is 174/person and you pay up-front when you book. This may seem pricy to some, but it INCLUDES service charge and tax. There is nothing else you are responsible for except for any beverages you order when you are there. For the experience, I think it's totally worth it. Set in a hideaway, in a light industrial area, it has a tiny but spacious dining area hidden behind a sliding corrugated metal door with a large outer bar , any six seat interior bar. Bastion was our Christmas dinner to one another this year, and it felt genuinely immersive. An intimate, private setting where the chefs cook right in front of you and are engaging, warm, and clearly proud of what they're creating. Every course was thoughtful and beautifully executed. Standouts for us: the tiger mussels, scallop with hazelnut and buttermilk, crab habanada with scallion, and the pear + sunchoke dish (still dreaming about it all). A lot of the dishes are like a magical explosion of flavor in your mouth that is hard to explain with words or pictures - you just have to try it! Phenomenal across the board. Minus the only thing that fell a little flat and lacked flavor was the truffle, goat cheese, kale. We enjoyed the Must Be Fate, Soft Light, and Blatant Desire cocktails - they were all incredibly complex and nuanced in their own and would order them all again, in that order. From the speakeasy-style sliding door entrance to the record player spinning in the background, the entire experience felt intentional - quiet luxury without pretension. Michelin star on one side and bar on the other. Honestly check out the Michelin side; however, pass on the bar side. Weho is growing and has so many other places going for it if you want a cocktail. The cocktails and drinks are good at Bastion but the service is rude. Cool space but rude service ruins the whole experience. Also the nachos are very overrated. Never never and Americano lounge which are almost next door have just as good of drinks if not better. Highly recommend those two over Bastion especially with the poor bar service. read more

came here a few weeks ago and I have not stopped thinking about my experience because I truly loved it here! when I arrived I was brought to a small area outside of the small bar which was super quiet and away from the hustle and bustle of the big bar. After a few minutes, I was seated at the small bar where I ordered a delicious cocktail. When my friend arrived we were then brought to the restaurant in the back. We had seats at the counter which allowed us to watch the chefs prepare each course which was a nice touch. The staff was so great and did an amazing job telling us about each of the course as they came. I could go into detail about how much I liked each dish, but then we'd all be here forever so I'll say that my favorite dishes were the chanterelle broth, the scallop, the crab, the romaine, the tri-tip, the ginger ice cream, the pear + sun choke, and the chess pie. What a meal! I went for a tasting with two food companions. We made a reservation about a month in advance. We showed up early for our reservation so we could have a drink from the little bar before our meal. The little bar is a small bar on the restaurant side of bastion. It's quiet, it has date night ambiance! Now the meal itself was incredible!!! Each item was delicious! The dishes had a great mixture of flavor, texture, meaty, creamy! The service was great as well and answered any questions we had about wine or the dish. Now for the cost. You will have to pay when you make a reservation and that includes tax and tip. That came out to be around $480. My food partners added the $85 wine tasting when we got there so then that increased the tax and tip a bit. What happens is when you get the bill after eating, it already includes the previously paid tax and tip paid for PLUS the additional amount that the bill was increased because of the alcohol. We got confused by that so that is why I share it here. The reason this was important was because we wanted to make sure we were tipping our servers appropriately. All this to say, this was a great experience. We were celebrating and had no regrets. The chefs come out before each course and tell you about the dish. Literally my most talked about bar. This is where I tell everyone to come. The drinks are amazing and if you don't know what you want, don't worry they will make something tasty! The ambiance is great when the music is bumping. Great place to go with a group of friends and hang and in a great location to bar hop. That being said, I've had Michelin-starred food in Paris for cheaper and this place aspires to be, but does not come close to Michelin quality. Sometimes fine dining restaurants can come off as a bit pretentious but everything felt very comfortable and homey at Bastion. You pay when you make your reservation. It came out to $501 for 3 people and when you get to the restaurant you get the option of adding a drink pairing. We stuck with ordering our own cocktails and the drinks (4 alcoholic, 1 mocktail) which came out to an additional $85. Tax and tip are included in everything. There is a paid parking lot for Bastion but it's best to snap a picture of your license plate and go in to ask about validation before paying on your own through the parking lot portal. Lovely tasting menu in the middle of Nashville! We arrived a bit early to our reservation, so we were taken to the "little bar," which is behind a door - has a speakeasy feel. Our bartender of the night, Eric, concocted some interesting drinks for us. We got the Wooden Wisdom (tequila, carrot, garam masala, lemon) and Founder of the Queen (Gin, Toasted cumin, and Verjus). Definitely some fun drinks! I enjoyed both of them. Then, we were led into the dining room, which is connected to the little bar. I loved the setup of the open kitchen with the diners seated right in front. We could see all the action of the chefs prepping and plating each dish. We opted for the wine pairing - Andrew, the sommelier, did an excellent job with the pairings! The appetizer courses were delicious - oyster, beet, walnut & apple, and poulet rouge chicken. In our second course - lamb and snapper sashimi - I thought that the lamb was super tender and done very well, whereas the snapper was too salty. The mahi, leek and rosemary combo dish was an excellent dance of flavors and textures, and we thoroughly enjoyed. The last savory dish, the Bear Creek Farms pork with lettuce and roe, was an absolute delight. The pork was tender and juicy, and I loved the addition of roe on top! Of the desserts, the smoked mascarpone cake with lime and basil sorbet was absolutely lovely, as the smoky sweetness of the mascarpone was mellowed out by the freshness of sorbet flavors. Overall, I thought that while some of the savory courses were a little lackluster, it was made up for by the other courses! [Review of restaurant upstairs] I've been wanting to go to Bastion for a while - the restaurant upstairs is small so reservations are a must and definitely something you need to plan ahead for! (Though I hear the bar on the lower floor has great pulled pork nachos so worth a visit even if you don't get dinner here). With a dinner reservation you are invited to have a pre-dinner drink at the mini bar upstairs if there is room, or you can wait at the downstairs bar if there's not. My friend and I were not lucky this time as the upstairs bar was full, but the drinks are still really great downstairs! I plan on returning to this bar portion of bastion sometime soon! Upstairs, there are a few tables and a long counter surrounding the small kitchen to eat at. I was excited to be seated at the counter, watching the chefs prepare each dish and being able to ask questions all night was definitely the highlight of the meal. If you are looking to enhance the experience, you can also add on a wine pairing to the meal ($80) which was extremely educational! I'm a lightweight so I just had a single cocktail with my dinner (order the persimmon/whiskey/gin/lemon cocktail if it's still in season/on the menu!!) Each course was artistically presented and very seasonal, apparently they will switch out ingredients and slightly modify dishes as often as every week. I enjoyed that they didn't just feed us squash and root vegetables for each course, because that's the direction a lot of restaurants go with winter menus. Overall, the meal felt light but satiating, in case you are looking at the pics and wondering if you will be full. Though if you're not, just head downstairs for those post-dinner nachos. Though I truly enjoyed the experience and service here, I wouldn't say I was wowed by the taste of anything. They were prepared for the crowd with appetizers and the bar was really quick with drinks. The music was pretty loud. I had to yell at my friend who was sitting right across from me. Unique and phenomenal tasting menu experience!! We came here to celebrate a birthday and got to sit at the bar. This was a 7 course tasting menu and we opted in for the wine pairing. Menu changes around. Each course was beautifully plated and so flavorful that you taste every little detail about the dish. My favorite dishes were the Duck (extremely rich flavor) and the Beef Tri-Tip (one of the best parts of this dish was the potato). The sauce of the dishes were phenomenal. I also loved that they served this refreshing cucumber kelp chocolate shaved ice to cleanse your palette. It was light and definitely got you ready for the final dessert. Lastly, they gave a small treat to-go, Miso Snickerdoodle. Whoever thought to pair miso and snickerdoodle, but wow I was impressed! Wine pairing: the wine paired really well with each course.
