Thankfully we had great company which made the experience bearable yet what was disappointing was not once having a manager come over to apologize or offer anything for the inconvenience. This place gets 5 starts for the incredible bartender, Jackson. Friendly and welcoming. Ask him for a lavender old fashioned, you will not regret it. Typical bar/restaurant in most aspects, I sat at the bar both times I visited. Had a good chicken salad sandwich the first night (which was very good), came back the second night simply for another of the lavender old fashioneds. The folks I sat next to at the bar were consistently friendly (even though I mostly prefer to read my book) and the place did steady in person and take out business. Every time I've eaten here (Davenport or Bettendorf) I've had great food and great service.

Stayed at a nearby hotel, and this was the only spot open late, so I gave it a shot. If the burger had been warm, it would have been great, but I was starving, so I couldn't care less. I sat at the bar at 10:30 PM (half an hour before closing) and stood there for a good 10 minutes while the clearly drunk bartender made two cocktails. I ended up leaving. But since I wanted to eat, I went back in and sat at the same spot. There were some tables with people hanging out after dinner, but nothing serious or busy. Finally, the bartender noticed me--out of that huge bar--and asked if I wanted a drink. I told him I was hungry. It took a while to place my simple order: a plain double cheeseburger with sweet potato fries. After 15 minutes, he said, "I'll go check on your food." Two minutes later, he brought me a cold meal and said, "It just came out..." ‍‍‍ Hey bud, enjoy that tip I still left--because I work in the same industry and know the difference between a busy night and staff getting drunk while on the job. ...Just saying. We just moved to the area and gave this place a try. So glad we did because it was so good! The nachos with moonshine barbecue pork were fantastic! The pork was so tender and the sauce so delicious, next time I will get that in a sandwich! I had the turkey/ham club - great a huge. We really enjoyed lunch here with some family we met up with in town. It was super-busy downtown, but we got all the attention we needed. The food was excellent. We enjoyed spicy cheese curds and fried pickles with wasabi ranch (get it!!). I think everyone enjoyed their food fairly well at our table. I personally really liked the Carolina burger and devoured the truffle fries I ordered with it. Our server was kind of a suggestive-selling king and had great recommendations for additions to our orders. I thought the Barrel House logo burned into the top of the brioche buns was a nice touch. We arrived here for a late night dinner after we saw a show at the Adler Theatre. We were greeted by a very friendly server named Jay. He was phenomenal. He went above and beyond and us all of his drink and food recommendations and made sure we knew about any specials. Jay was very attentive and made sure to refill our waters and drinks. He really made the experience enjoyable and is very passionate about his role at the restaurant. The food was phenomenal! We started with cheese, curds, and pretzel sticks. All the sauces were homemade for everything and they were delicious. My husband got a 2am burger and I got a veggie burger. We both enjoyed cocktails. He got a strawberry milkshake with booze in it and I got the special fall martini. We will definitely be back next time we visit. read more

We had planned to eat at another restaurant but plans fell through at the last minute and I'm glad they did! I looked up places to eat nearby and found Barrel House so we headed over. The menu is extensive and had something for everyone in our party of 6. The food was amazing, but what made our experience so awesome was the service. Allison was our server and she answered tons of questions, shared her personal supply of bug spray with my mom (we sat outside) , and when my dad's fish and chips came out not looking so great, she sent it back before we had a chance to mention it. My dad loved the fish and chips! I had the Diablo burger and it hit the spicy spot I was craving - went well with a IA brewed beer. Used to go here often. The last few times have been very disappointing. The last time I went with a family member who gets easily embarrassed so I didn't complain. Ordered a portobello and Swiss burger. Came with zero veggies or anything. I get that because most places that offer any sort of mushroom and Swiss combo have some sort of sauce. Not this one. A complete and utter disappointment. The drinks were dope but the quality of food was subpar. The nachos came out very sparse portions and the cheese was slapped on the plate. The shrimp tasted good, but they were claimed to be jumbo Prawn and I received 6 small Fried shrimp drowned in sauce. I was completely shocked and literally appalled. The patty melt was really really good, but not good enough to save the day. This is the first place we came to because we were are mining to the quad city area from NYC and was told of all the amazing food and Barrel House came up. I really have been impressed everytime we have eaten here. The service is great, the menu has a ton of great choices, and there lots of indoor and outdoor (seasonal) seating options. I like the firecracker meals, especially the shrimp quesadilla and the cheese curds. There are tons of beers on tap, many are on a rotator so it never gets old. Really great location for baseball and hockey games, its just a few blocks. Parking can be a challenge, but street parking was free. Overall, a great date or family gathering spot. Barrel House is great for a burger and a beer. I've essentially summed up the entire experience in a single line! They aren't trying to razzle dazzle. There's no smoke or mirrors, or flashy lights and gimmicks. The service was good and attentive, the menu is pretty diverse and includes everything from appetizers to burgers to even some Mexican style dishes, and it's all done fairly well. For lovers of shrimp, which I most absolutely am, their firecracker shrimp is pretty on point. Great flavor without overpowering or burning your taste buds. I of course went with a burger; there are over a dozen over the menu, most of which are Angus but they also have bison and lamb options. The 2am burger has eggs, bacon and hash brown. Honestly, what else could you want on top of a burger? And with what appears to be a mostly locals crowd, Barrel House lands solidly on my list of places to relax, catch a game, and have some beer and good food. read more
