Loveeeee this place! Oh my gosh. My husband and I have walked and drive by this place a few times while in town visiting my parents- it looks so adorable from the outside. A picturesque porch, open doors to the inside, a big lawn, etc. So we finally booked a reservation for a fancy date night in August '20 and it exceeded our expectations! In the reservation, I requested a table on the porch, and we were sat immediately. We were given menus and picked out what we wanted - calamari, the wedge salad, and the veal parmesan. Every dish was amazing! The calamari was different than any we'd had before - lemony coating, fresh herbs, and the fried cherry peppers and jalapenos were such a genius addition! The dipping marinara was the best too! Ugh my mouth is watering as I type this! Then we had the salad, this was an adventure for my taste buds! Such delicious homemade blue cheese dressing, sweet crumbly bacon, and cherry tomatoes. Loved it!! Then our bigggg dish of veal parm! The veal was cooked perfectly, and it was cool to try it on the bone with spaghetti! It was a massive dish, so that we had leftovers from 2 of us eating from it! We were both stuffed! But...Then... The waitress asked if we had room for dessert, which I always have even if I'm full so we got the bourbon pecan pie, which also didn't disappoint! I would give more stars if possible. Date night with hubby without the kids, so enjoyable thanks to Barrel and Fork! First they were packed but the hostess was very gracious and tried to make every attempt to get us seated. I really appreciated that effort. We ended up getting a table on the patio. Now you have to know I'm cold natured but the heaters REALLY work because I wasn't cold at all. Brittany was our server and she was awesome, very friendly, attentive and represented the restaurant well giving us a wonderful impression as first timers. Literally everything I ate was delicious. Here goes: lobster Mac n cheese, asparagus, garlic mashed potatoes, calamari and chocolate torte. Bonus: the music. No there wasn't a live band. According to Brittany the music playing was the owners playlist. When I tell you that we were dancing in our seat, I am not kidding! It was all the old school mellow jams. I've been wanting to try Barrel and Fork since they opened, and what better opportunity to do so than during the COVID-19 pandemic when they were offering a sizable curbside menu! Online ordering was a breeze. Just know that the burger comes with fries, so there is no need to get fries as a separate side. They offer a Gouda option if you don't like blue cheese, and I just added that request as a note once I added the burger to my cart. Both my husband's blue cheese burger and my Gouda burger were cooked to perfection. The onion aioli and onion roll were great complements. They were out of curly fries, but I think I preferred their substitution - skinny, crispy Parmesan rosemary fries. So good! We also ordered the strawberry goat cheese salad and fried green tomato BLT appetizers. The salad was huge, and the BLT came as three perfect slices. There was so much flavor in that dish, and I'll definitely get it every time I can. Service was really great. I just pulled up to the side, and my order was out right on time. The Building has a Checkered Past but it's Great for Sunday Brunch This old house in Cornelius dates back to 1906 but in recent years, has housed several restaurants. Most were pretty good but one had an unusual distinction. The last Restaurant to occupied this space was Fork which was sold to the new owners just recently. The restaurant maintains many of the elements of Fork in terms of menu and ambiance with some noticeable new additions to the menu. It was the restaurant prior to Fork that has the checkered past. It was a Cajun/Creole Restaurant that never seemed to have much of a crowd and the cuisine was a poor approximation to NOLA. Turns out they were using to high electrical consumption to mask the fact that the upstairs was being used as a Marijuana Grow House. Not only were they not concerned by the low turnout, they probably would have preferred it if fewer people showed up. Food was not traditional Cajun or Creole but I'm told the Brownie's were fantastic. My wife and I decided to give them a try after Church yesterday. Church let's out at 10:30 am the same time the restaurant opens. We got there at around 10:45 am and the restaurant was already filling up quickly. Still we were promptly seated and our very capable server was there with the menu's shortly thereafter. She was excellent and from what I could observe, so was the rest of the staff. Management has a station right in the middle of the dinning room and pays close attention to rather customers are being satisfied. I ordered Black Coffee for my beverage and it was excellent with a nice dark color and rich flavor with no bitterness from being less that fresh. My wife had a glass of water and Unsweetened Tea which was good as well. It took a bit of reasoning and reading the product description to discover they have one of my favorites on the menu. That would be a BLT but made with Fried Green Tomatoes as opposed to regular red tomatoes and arugula as opposed to lettuce. Only other place where I can get anything close is Famous Toastery Came with Spicy Curley Fries which were good but almost too spicy. It was a no brainer as to what my wife was going to order and true to form, she ordered the Quiche along with a side of Fruit. She loved the Quiche but is allergic to bananas so guess who ended up with the bananas. Normally this time of year, sides of fruits end up being very heavy in cheaper melons but not the case this time. Excellent mix of berries and fruits in a nice presentation. Fork never had a theme that I could put a finger on but Barrel and Fork at least for right now has a theme celebrating the age of the building and coming out of prohibition. Needless to say, much more expansive bar that what Fork had. It does have a higher energy that Fork had at the end which is one reason we stopped coming in for New Years Eve Dinner. May give Barrel and Fork a try this New Years Eve if they are open but in the meantime, we're definitely going to make a point of coming for dinner sometime in the near future. read more

This place is fantastic. Bar area is great, small but so inviting. Bartenders are the most professional bartenders I've ever seen. They have every drink down to a legitimate science. It's a little pricey but rightfully priced for what you're getting. I had the elk cooked med rare and it was perfect not too gamey at all. Not embarrassed to say: I've been to B&F 3 times in the past week. It's a unique experience every time I come. I wanted to keep this little gem my secret...but...alas...you're welcome. The mixologists are the best I've seen. They make serving a drink a true experience. Jade makes in-house tinctures of every flavor you know and don't know. Lemongrass or Lavender scented dry ice accompany a prohibition era cocktail glass. Fire and smoke old fashions. Green Fairies tempt you to absinthe. What's next to explore?! Proteins are cooked over a wood grill. I love the salmon. The grill gives the outside a nice charred crust, cooked to medium rare, mouth watering, clean-plate-club goodness. All the food is delicious honestly. Really enjoyed the pesto gnocchi and bourbon pecan pie too. Indoor, patio and bar dining. Recommend reservations, first come / first serve at the bar that seats around 10-11 + 2 two-tops with a big open window to the outside patio seating. Adirondack chairs around a fire pit if you're just wanting drinks or waiting for a table. Service is top notch across the board. Friendly hostess, manager keeps a clean house and ever present in a subtle way, servers are knowledgeable and out-going, bartenders have showmanship and skill. Everyone makes you feel welcome. Pros: we had an awesome server and the drinks were great! I'd recommend the scallops as well. Cons: do not get the gnocchi or the bacon brussel sprouts. I can't even explain how tasteless the gnocchi was and the sprouts just tasted burnt. It was disappointing considering the price. There's not many restaurants in Charlotte that I can say compare to to many of my favs back home but Barrel and Fork certainly stacks up. The service is always amazing, the atmosphere is intimate yet inviting, the drinks and bartenders are top notch, and the food is great. Five stars. I've been trying to get here for weeks but they don't always offer takeout and I'm always nearby dropping my son off for workouts which only gives me enough time to grab some takeout before having to pick him up. Lawrence(I hope I got the name right) accommodated my request recently and he was so nice and made sure I not only was able to order but personally made sure my order was correct and my sauces were all included. I ordered the foster(brioche topped with bananas, cinnamon butter, foster sauce, mascarpone whip, and bourbon maple syrup) and of red pepper, onion and chive hash. Too expensive. I'm accustomed to paying up to $100 per meal, but my dinner here was not worth it.

First of all, from the phone call on our way to the restaurant to see if there were tables available, to the owner saying goodbye to us and chatting with us about the restaurants mission and origins, customer service was on point. We felt mot just warmly welcomed but that our experience was important and that we were friends not just customers while we were there. The food was excellent and the ambience was cozy bright cheerful warm and creative. We will definitely be back and have already told deserving friends about this wonderful little gem. Have been there twice. The first visit was decent with really good appetizers, main dish was good but nothing extra special. Drinks were great but took a long time to get. On our first visit we sat in a tiny table in the bar area barely big enough for the food we ordered. However there were two nice tables along the wall designed for 4 (almost) but both had two people sitting at them. They seemed comfortable at these tables and were out of the general traffic to and from the bar, which our table was right in the middle of. All in all, we enjoyed the visit other than the tiny table and the price was a bit steep for what we got. Add in the slow drink turn around and I would have given our first visit 4 stars. So, we booked a reservation weeks in advance for our 2nd visit. This time I specifically requested one of the tables on the side in the bar area for my wife and I that we saw two couples sitting in the last time. All was well until we showed up at 4:45 for our 5pm reservations, we were the first in line to be checked in. When the young lady went to check us in, it was clear they had not even looked at our request for one of those side tables in the Resy app. We mentioned it to her and she said she would need to speak to her manager. A snobby gentleman came out and basically told us that our request meant nothing to them and that we would have to sit where they placed us. I reminded him we had made this request weeks in advance and he reiterated that it was a complex seating system and we would get what we would get. He then marched us into a small room and sat us right in front of a window A/C at a tiny table. We told him that we would just go elsewhere and he didn't even apologize, just showed us the door. In the mean time, a couple that had just walked up (no reservation) had somehow gotten a bar table, totally blew our minds. Maybe it was someone the restaurant knew but they clearly stated they didn't have a reservation when they walked up right behind us standing in line. We didn't leave because of the table we ended up in, we left because of how we were treated. This place is lucky right now that its newer and popular. That won't always be the case and how people are treated will tell the real tale of how long a restaurant stays in business. The manager was just flat out rude and didn't really take even a moment to listen to our request. The poor girl checking us in gave us a look like "I'm so sorry he treated you this way". Sadly, this place has a lot of promise, but with management like this treating customers and their request like the don't matter, its not a recipe for long term success. There are way too many other good restaurants within 30 minutes north of Charlotte to be treated like this, we won't be back. Sadly, it ruined a nice evening out. This visit deserved a 1 star, I'm leaving 2 only because of the first visit. read more

Third times the charm they say, definitely. Another amazing dinner at Barrel and fork. This time in their lovely patio porch. My first after quarantine visit, looks like all precautions are being taken here. We had a server who was brand new, nervous but she got the job done well. We love sharing things here so we tend to gets apps then an entree then a dessert, and of course wine. Since I've been last they have upped their wine and cocktail list. They had some cool sounding cocktails but I couldn't begin to decide on one so just stuck with wine instead. The Austrian Rosé here is really good . Perfectly dry. They give really good size pours too. Started with our favorite the Arancini, with the short rib and smoked Gouda , the whole grain mustard , one of the best appetizers I've ever had. Had this every time here. Then we got the fried green tomato shrimp BLT, with a citrus aioli this was nice and surprisingly light, lots of shrimp, a great start with those two. Then we got the scallops entree, on a bed of orzo, with sweet potato purée, and asparagus, perfectly cooked scallops. Perfect for sharing or not ! We also got the broccolini which was awesome, nice Smokey flavor, still crunchy but cooked also. Perfect balance on the two. Then the exotic mushroom risotto. Nice and creamy and lots of mushrooms. You could eat this bowl by itself. But again perfect for sharing. This is one of favorite things we've gotten here. Finally dessert, key lime pie! With raspberry sauce, nice and tart, as our server had told us it was. Creamy and the crust was super light. Definitely get this if you go. Nothing short of a fabulous dinner. One of these stars is for the server- she was absolutely above and beyond amazing. The drinks are cold and better for people wanting stuff with hard liquor. The food is decent but not worth the 200 tab you will be leaving with. Portions are average and by no means large. If you want a side for your meal make sure you order the shareables. Half of my boyfriends meal was burnt and just covered in sauce to hide it. Come early for parking! read more

Well, I like to start off by saying the parking is awful. This was our first time trying this restaurant and we wanted to try something new. I did take a look at dinner and drink menu before arriving. I seen filet and I was like perfect I can eat here. After being seated at our table, we barely could hear each other speak due to the loud music playing above us. The server was great. She did tell us about specials and cocktails. But I only like Malibu Rum and pineapple juice. She told me the mixologist would make something comparable. The drink was awful. Tasted like a soda. Which I don't drink carbonated drinks. No pineapple or coconut taste at all. My husband likes all drinks. He got a smoked old fashioned. He liked his drink. But I guess this is why they have a drink menu and I knew all the alcohols on the menu I wouldn't drink. Not really girly drink menu. For dinner, I got a Filet, and he got Veal Parmesan. My steak was sent back to the kitchen 2 extra times for not being cooked right. And they didn't have any A1 steak sauce. I know you may think that horrible but that's what I like. We all like what we like. Never once said sorry and the guy that brought it to me said," It's gotta be right this time." On the 3rd time. Kinda thought that was rude. And never offer to take it off the bill or anything. Seen several flies flying around. And mid dinner a group came in with 2-3 small children. Welp that ruined our kid free date night. That we only get once in a blue moon. One the brighter side, Brussel sprouts were the best thing that we got. Also, always check your bill. I used a credit card but left a cash tip. After it being posted to my account, an additional tip was added when I wrote cash on the tip line. $45 more dollars to be exact. So always make sure to keep receipts and match to your statements. Are you looking for a WONDERFUL dining experience? Well, come here. This wonderful house turned restaurant used to be the home of Fork (no relation) and is so cozy and welcoming. Truly a more comfortable and intimate dining experience than visiting a regular restaurant. First, you'll probably need reservations. There are some cute adirondack chairs on the front lawn for waiting on your table that everyone seemed to be enjoying while waiting. All of the staff had on masks. They have indoor and outdoor seating, and when I visited for lunch today, we sat on the covered porch outside and listened to the rain patter on the roof. Perfection! I had the Wagyu meatloaf sandwich with Parmesan fries which was a lunch special today. That meatloaf is something special. The best I've had, if possible. The crispy onions added texture and a nice sweet and salty crunch to the dish. Service was incredible, and we lacked for nothing. Brought my parents here for dinner while in town, and boy we all loved it! They asked why I was hiding this place from them for so long. The atmosphere is great, lowly lit but you can still see the menu and the others you're with. Service was great, never had to wait on drinks and the food between courses had perfect timing. My only con was parking. I got a table by the bar and if you like cocktails, you should too! Been eyeing the cocktail menu for a few and ultimately is the reason we came. We started with the Son of the Soil cocktail (very yummy rye cocktail with fig jam, smoked lillet rouge (although, it was faint/didn't taste the smoke), house pecan bitters and egg white and my friend had the Fields Forever cocktail which was the most delicious combo of amari (/bitter liquers) and was so delicious with Campari, aperol, montenegro, zucchini, strawberry basil shrub and egg white. They were delicious and so satisfying for the cocktail nerds that we are! We started with the truffle fries and special duck breast salad as an appetizer. Then I had the rod and reel/fresh catch, which was bass and risotto + pickled salad which was sooo good and my friend had the pork loin special with asparagus and cauliflower. Next round was dealers choice: I requested mezcal, spicy and bubbles, my friend asked for cachaca and pecan bitters and boy, were we impressed. I ended with Cocchi di Torano, and my friend indulged in their warm cognac service and got a lovely flamed Armagnac! For dessert, we split a frozen strawberry mousse sandwiched with Graham crackers.
