We took our car to Cliff Barney and gave him a large down payment of $10,000 to start the project. Cliff did not contact us regularly so we started asking for updates on progress at about the 6 month mark. We learned he had just recently moved the car into the back shop and we were able to meet with him and observed that at that point he had only disassembled the interior and cleaned out the trunk. My husband contacted him frequently asking for updates and was given one excuse after another why he wasn't further along or why he couldn't do the work and he would ask for more time. Eventually he stopped answering calls and text messages and would hide or not answer the door when my husband tried to contact him about the car. On one such occasion Cliff did not answer text messages or calls so my husband went to the shop and another "employee" let him in to look at the car. At this point Cliff had the car for a year and my husband verified that Cliff didn't get any further than the interior and trunk. My husband tried to contact Cliff several times to get the car and the money back, but Cliff refused to respond. We were eventually able to contact him by using a different phone number, and were able to get the car back, but he refused to refund any of the money stating that he no longer had it. He didn't seem at all bothered by the prospect of having a small claim filed against him which leads me to believe this is not the first time he has done this. We believe that once he spent our money elsewhere, he had no intention of completing the work on our car, and he basically stole our money. read more
