Within 45 min got a call from Tim saying he could send a Technician today around 4:30 pm. I had two other HVAC companies out, one said my thermostat was broken and I just needed to replace it but wouldn't replace it because it was a Carrier he suggested calling someone for a second opinion. Another told me it was needing a new compressor and capacitor and because it was a Carrier that would cost over $6,000 or replace the entire thing for $15,000 Nick came out was up front on everything: pricing, expected time spent, what he thought the issue was initially, once he figured out the issue he explained what he would do and offered his understanding of where other HVAC technicians went wrong diagnosing the AC problem. The Carrier website has a list of service providers and I went with them because of their rating. I rarely do reviews and only because i feel strongly positively or negatively. I went to go buy portable heaters from Lowe's which brought a little comfort. I saw this company "Optimum Air" a few times on my search and there were quite a few reviews. I'm normally drawn by the comments and reviews and I decided to give them a try. I called made an appointment and everything was professional. I even received a text confirming my appointment that day and later that day I received another text showing, "Michael from Optimum Air Co. its on the way." And it came with a link to track their arrival along with a photo of the person. This was really professional and loved the promptness. The tracker showed that his ETA is 2:03, which is right on time, and he came, right on time. I must say, Mike is very friendly, professional, and answered all my questions. The issue I was having was no power to the unit, and before then, the fan didn't turn off at all. He fixed both. He wired something, and showed before of the issue and showed me actually what he was doing. I was so pleased by the professionalism, that I requested a quote to replace my entire furnace and a/c, because I knew that eventually it will need to be replaced. I highly recommend them and I definitely trust their service. They weren't trying to be pushy and sell me anything or sell me a new unit. He just came, did his job, answered questions, smiled, friendly, and then left.

When questioned about if the unit was at the end of its life span, he told us that the unit seemed fine, and he didn't see why replacement couldn't be put off another few years at the very least. (it has been a year now, and we've had no further problems. We've been using Pape since the early 90's when they had to come out and fix a mess that Wolverton Air had left. Always very professional, and no matter which house we owned at the time they have always considered each call a REPAIR call and not an opportunity to try and talk us into a new unit. That coupled with their reasonable charges is why we don't hesitate to call them. Particularly now, when the unit we currently have has been repaired a few times in the last eight years, and just died again last night. Since it is original to the house, we are pretty sure it is at the end of its service life. But, I have no fear that Pape will not do right by tomorrow when they arrive to check it out.

Once the call was made it was "Boots on the ground" because Ms, Christy was able to get me scheduled that day(4-6pm). However, she did better and called me back to ask if she could send a technician within 30 mins. (Yay!!) I was inside my home with temp at 87 degrees. Mike and Tarion were professional as they diagnosed the issue. Mike did a great job explaining to me what the problem was and confirmed my warranty information. He also took pictures from the attic to show me what was going on with the coil. I was given a quote for the work. This is where I didn't quite understand why it was so pricey given Chat GPT was providing the average cost much less. I spoke with Tony, and he provided the breakdown for the estimate for the labor cost. The two men were good and I appreciate Drew and Sam for their hard work and willingness to make sure all my questions were answered. They were professional and friendly and very nice guys. They were quick because it took 2.5 hours to complete the job. Because of that, I overlooked the very expensive labor fee. :-) I would give the company a five star if I felt they showed complete transparency with their labor fees per hour. I know most companies do not want to disclose that information, but this provides the consumer with a sense of respect and not being taken advantage of the situation. I feel this would be a fair. All that to say is, I am happy to be back in a cool home. I now have a home warranty. All I pay is a deductible. :-)
