I really had no idea that this locationneven existed until today. It's kind of hidden from the main mall area, and that's probably thereason why. I hadngottnlen ised to their other location at Patomac Yards because I've spent manuly days and weeks working there in the cafe. Based on the online pictures it seemed likentheynhave tables and chairs and most lokely WiFi which arenthe three essentials for me to do work. I found out that this store is missing something else that's important, namely outlets to plug into. I found two outlets in the entire store way innthe back where they had individual cushioned chairs. Nowhere even close to the cafe area. That would have been ok however I couldn't even use my cellphone hotspot because it's so deep inside of the building. Why hotspot data? Ahh it's becausen their Internet wasn't working either. I basically left very dissappointed and walked across the street to the mall. It seems that other comenters have complained about the same issues and the management hasndone nothing to make corrections. That being said, I doubt I will ever waste my time there again.

For perspective over 109,000 layoffs were announced across the country in January. So, while the slaughter at The Post makes headlines, the overall trendlne for layoffs is not good. The world's second or third wealthiest man Jeff Bezos probably got tired of losing 100 mil a year since he bought the paper from the Graham family for 250 million in 2014 having to endure a cratering in circulation and advertising (both down 40%+ from the time of his purchase.) As a former digital subscriber, I franky grew tired of editorial based entirely on chronicling the "resistance" to Trump but going curiously mute to the foibles of the home team (90% of WaPo's journalists are registered Democrats.) I have no problem with savaging the GOP who no doubt richly deserve the lash when they behave badly but... the axe should swing both ways. It has been said that Bezos can easily absorb the losses as a civic duty since he can carry The Post for five years on what he makes in a single month. He could -- but maybe he's looking to reinvent the paper hewing closer to the on-demand podcast, YouTube model where the vast majority of Americans now get their news. Or, he could just be a rapacious plunderer looking for a quick exit. Whatever the case, the era of Woodward and Berstein was over a half century ago -- something clearly needed to change. I think I'll resubscribe just to keep tabs. Five optimistic stars.

I then gave him a positive shout out for taking an hands off approach and allowing the Post to continue printing an enjoyable, trustworthy and fact based local newspaper. My one star review reflects my great disappointment as time has past his hiring of right wing pals--one directly imported from England with limited experience in writing for a rag publication there. The absolute last straw was Bezos personal interference with the Post Editorial page recently by having the nascent editorial endorsement for Kamala Harris for President of the United States pulled suddenly and at the last moment. The Editor of the Editorial Page has since resigned in protest---and I, too, write in protest. Is Bezos afraid of Donald Trump's threat of investigations and retributions or is Bezos bending the knee currying favor to Trump to enhance his opportunity to gain even more power, prestige...and money. Here is Western writing about the Middle East, here is Egyptian history, here is dramaturgy and poetry arranged by country. I have traveled in many countries in the Middle East and am always on the hunt for modern Arabic fiction, and the state of Arabic bookstores in general is Abysmal. Dusty bookstores in the Arab world are full of nothing but religious tracts and outdated translations of English self-help books. Al-Hikma is a magnificent collection of every single type of Arabic writing, both religious and profane. You can find every single thing under the sun, far better than the majority of bookstores you would find in an Arabic speaking country. And rather than the few online bookstores available, you have that truly unique and wonderful human experience of browsing shelves and shelves of Arabic titles without having to know exactly what you are looking for. Located in an unassuming stripmall outside of Washington D.C., Al-Hikma probably does more to bridge the gulf of ignorance between inside-the-beltway Middle East expertise, and the true heritage of Arabic thought better than the State Department and the C.I.A. combined. Everytime I visit DC I try to make it to this palatial collection of Arabic writing. On my personal tour, Dhiya told me that he named his bookstore after the great library in Abbasid Baghdad. His bookstore is certainly a worthy inheritor of the namesake.

Heads up! They close at 8pm during the week! The hours are not updated!…read more I drove down here which was over an hour away from Fort Meade to pick up an order that no other store closer to me had. I really wanted this item but how horrible to arrive to the store only to find out it was closed. My confirmation email and their phone recording message states they're open until 9:00 p.m. I later found out as if it wasn't obvious, the message was not updated so I had to drive back home. Over a 3-hour drive and did not receive my order. The next day I called customer service to explain what had happened and the first response I received was I could go back to pick it up. Are you kidding me? I already know that but seeing how I already spent three hours of my time the night prior trying to pick it up, that does not suffice me. After my customer service representative spoke with the store on the phone who agreed to hold the item for me until I could come pick it up, I still was not satisfied. How was this helping me? I had to suggest it being shipped to me. I then realized my customer service representative wasn't too bright. When they got back from hold speaking with the store they informed me that the store cannot personally ship it. So I had to ask my representative if they could ship it from their warehouse or wherever. The representative finally looked and saw there wete no more available. They were completely sold out as well. Now I had no choice but to go down to the store to pick up my item. Why all this hassle over an item? This was the only original I could find after searching the internet for 2 weeks. I let my customer service representative know this was still not okay and I wanted to be compensated for my time and gas. They had to speak with their manager who agreed to give me a $10 gift card towards my purchase. Since I had no other option to purchase an original anywhere else, I decided to go ahead and make the drive back down to pick up the item. We did learn since it was sold out everywhere else the price had decreased again and my item would end up being pretty much free. Experiencing rush hour traffic this time, convincing my son to drive, and using my EZ pass, we finally arrived again at the mall to pick up the item. I'm able to walk into the store this time because they are open and notice they do have a good selection of Harry Potter items that I couldn't help looking at but had to put down because they were a little expensive. Very unique but a little expensive no less. I go to the counter to pick up my order and when the cashier retrieves it and puts it on the table I am in shock and disbelief! The item I ordered was not what was pictured on line as the original but a version I could have purchased anywhere else. I could not believe it! Of course there was nothing that they could do, although she did confirm this you was the same as my order number. I did show her the picture online of the item and how it did not match the picture I had but of course there was nothing else she could do. Wow! I took the item and my son and I roamed around the mall to await the traffic. When we finally left it was raining and of course that meant even more traffic for our drive back home. This was a catastrophic experience. Yes it definitely could be worse but is that what we want to tell ourselves as consumers when we purchase an item we've searched for and already had difficulty obtaining? No!

The store is interesting in the aspect that it is divided into two section with stairs. A lot of confusion could go on with that. I went to the fiction section because that is where I figured the book series would be. However, it was not. My next venture was to go to the Young Adult section to search. I just wasn't finding it. I made my way to the register to find someone to help. Because I didn't see anyone on the floor that looked like they worked there. When I told them what I was looking for, and I was specific here with it being a series, they proceeded to take me to the section to a single book. I was like, yeah, great. I had to act like I was appreciative that they brought me to a single book and not the series. When I asked about the series again I was finally told they didn't have the complete series. They basically wasted both of our time by taking a journey to a section that didn't have what I wanted. I can see why so many of these are closing up shop.
