What an awesome little local book store. They have a great selection (obviously someone is doing some serious curation). They also have some stationary and journals and an attached kids store. Prices were reasonable and the staff were all very friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable about their collection. We will definitely make this a regular stop when we are in town. If for no other reason to avoid Amazon....

The best bookstore in Alexandria that I came across. The exterior is the cutest. Located on the corner with some outdoor seating. Once inside there is shelves of books an other products. I even saw some signed copies of books. I enjoyed a wide selection of books. They had stuffed animals, calendars, stickers and much more. Oh, if you are wondering if they have that good book smell, they do. The employees were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They were around helping out many other customers and directing them to areas to purchase certain books. I love how the children's area is separate from the other area of the book store. The store is perfect! I plan to return when I am in the area.

I popped in here because I heard dogs were welcomed! I was greeted by several folks working in the store and asked if I needed assistance. I told them it was my first time here so they gave me a tour and explained all the sections they have! I ended up getting the Dog Tarot Deck, a dog and book sticker and a history book! They have a great selection of books, stickers, art novelties, cards, and genres. They also sell some apparel too! I love a good bookstore with great aesthetic vibes, it was super cozy in there and yet it was hopping. Hard to find a good bookstore nowadays that isn't a chain. Well worth my money and the long walk from the metro!

I loved this little bookstore! For the size they had a great selection and I loved their display setups! The cashier was friendly and gave us some great recommendations. 100% recommend checking this shop out if you're in the area!

Amazing neighborhood book store. Great collection of local authors and all kind of books. My 13 year old love it!! An entire room for children and young adults. Employees are very friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend!!

Good selection of books and various other gifts. Staff was friendly and they allow dogs inside too!

Old Town Books is small, but mighty! It's in a historic building and has two rooms filled with well-curated books from cookbooks to a great kids selection. They are about to open a rare books section that looks very cool. If you want great books from a well-loved independent bookstore, go here!

I love this cute bookstore!! I'm a huge fan of local bookshops and this fit the bill. I was not aware that they also had book club events as well! Super well organized store by sections and there are some hilarious books by the checkout counter. They also sell merchandise like mugs and shirts and other cute stuff! They also carry puzzles, stickers, some other knick knacks. Spend at least an hour here!

The sign says it all. This place is no Amazon! Small shop. Small selection. If you can't find it...I bet they'll get it for you!

Cozy neighborhood bookstore. Great selection. Easier to find good reads here than at B&N. Please support Old Town books!

I initially stopped by to pick up the latest release from one of my favorite authors, but somehow left with two books instead. (Book lovers will understand!) I was warmly greeted when I arrived, and the welcoming atmosphere immediately made me want to linger and browse. What I appreciate most about MahoganyBooks is that it does much more than sell books. The bookstore is intentional about creating space for authors of color to be seen, celebrated, and supported. From book signings and author events to community activities and wellness-focused gatherings, it's clear that they're building community through literature and culture. After browsing the shelves, I visited the small café inside the bookstore for a smoothie before taking my new books down to the waterfront. Finding a bench by the water and reading a few pages while enjoying the beautiful views of National Harbor was the perfect way to spend the afternoon. Between the thoughtfully curated book selection, welcoming atmosphere, café, and beautiful waterfront location, the experience feels like much more than a trip to a bookstore.

My wife and I happened upon this bookstore on December 7, 2019, while walking in Old Town. It was…read moreour first visit. It's an independent bookstore run by Bernard, a nice guy. I have a constructive compliment and a constructive criticism. The compliment: The selection of books, cards, and posters is diverse and impressive. I bought two books, Freedom Riders and The Assassination of Fred Hampton. The criticism: Prices should be clearly marked because they aren't. The jacket price of the book Freedom Riders is $15.95. But after I got home I noticed I was charged $20. There was nothing on the book rack or the book itself that listed the price difference. (Please note that I would have happily paid $20 if that was the listed price.) I called and/or stopped by five times after December 7 to ask Bernard about the price difference but my VMs weren't returned or the store was closed. Finally on February 12, 2020, the store was open and I spoke with Bernard. I told him that my issue was notice of the proper price. I did not ask for a refund of the price difference and I kept the book. He said he heard what I was saying and his explanation for the price difference was that the book is hard to find.

I had an inquiry about my second order, and I reached out to their email address on June 17. Rachel responded to me a day later, and also informed me my books were on back order, so they would take some time to get and deliver. OK, no problem. Totally understandable, and I was happy that they were getting so much business. I waited until July 9 to follow up as none of my books arrived and I had no communications about my order since that June 18 email. I replied to Rachel asking if she had an update on my order (since I was charged already, and so was understandably wondering what happened to my orders). Nothing. July 22 I reached out on their Instagram account with a Direct Message. Nothing. I've called and no one picks up and the voicemail is full. It is now July 28 and I have yet to hear a response about the four books I ordered. I am extremely disappointed, because I really wanted to support this business, but it's now been a month and a half since my order. I would be more understanding if they at would at least reply to me to let me know what's going on and were keeping me in the loop, but so far they have consistently ignored a customer. I really hate leaving this review, but short of just walking up to their store and beating on the glass (which I'm sure would make me look like a lunatic!), I honestly don't know what else to do.
