We would have loved to try several of the beers listed, but sadly they were sold out. So we went for some very interesting mixed wine barrel beers in a low alcohol situation. Perfect for a hot summer day! Go for a flight of 4 and try what they have. The owner was great, the service was tops, and setting outside on the chairs under the fans was so relaxing. Awesome small farm brewery. I found this place on the way back from Virginia Beach. I've been here twice now. The beer selection is decent and beer pretty good. The brewing operations and two room are all under the same roof behind the bar so you see everything. Very friendly staff as well. Great service and beer here. I came in on a random Saturday evening and stopped by to try it out and was very happy. I explained how I'm not a big fan of IPAs, but my server was like "We got you covered!". They specialize in Belgian style beers, so I was in luck. I did a flight then a pint of my favorite - the Motley Prince Belgian Imperial Wit. I don't remember seeing much of this style in Virginia. Tasting it makes me wish I did. A group of 7 us visited Barking Rose Brewing Co. + Farm this past weekend. The official name of the brewery - according to their web site and signage is: Barking Rose Brewing Co. + Farm To date - Yelp refuses to update the business name to the correct name - despite supplying them with verifiable business name information. Barking Rose Brewing Co. is at the end of a gravel road - take care coming down the road - as the road is not really two lanes - so you'll want to watch for oncoming vehicles. Barking Rose Brewing Co. is in a brand spanking new facility. The brewmaster - Matt - used to run another local craft brewery - Forge Brew Works - which was located down in the Lorton, VA area. You'll see a couple of the Forge Brew Works signs inside Barking Rose Brewing Co. I visited Forge Brew Works back in the day - and sampled all their beers - I find Matt's approach and philosophy to brewing - is one that resonates with my palate. He really understands nuance and flavor profiles. And on top of that - he is a super nice guy! The brewery is currently operating under a "soft opening." The current beer lineup is 3 beers: Use Your Melon Saison (4.2% ABV) (2.5 stars on Untappd) Farm Use Patersbier (4.4% ABV) (3.5 stars on Untappd) 029 Jump Street IPA (6.8% ABV) (4.25 stars on Untappd) I'm not a fan of Saisons - which is why I did not rate that one so highly, but Saison fans will enjoy the rendition - it's thoughtfully crafted and well executed. I can't say I recall ever trying a beer with the style "Patersbier" - but it was a nice ale. Finally, the 029 Jump Street IPA was really good! As I recall - it has 3 hops - I want to say Amarillo - and two of the Pacific NW C's (I want to say Centennial and Cascade). A delicious, hoppy, piney ale, with a nice bitter finish. After my tasting flight, I went back for a full pint of the 029 Jump Street. More beers are on the way. Matt has a lot of expansion capacity tap-wise - I can't wait to see what else he comes up with. The only two things I will ding them on: (1) They need more seating (more tables and chairs) (2) The floor is a raw concrete - hard to keep clean. I think they should put down an epoxy coating on the concrete - it will look way nicer and is easy to clean! Swung through Friday and had a couple flights. Some of the beers had higher ABVs than were befitting their styles and we didn't want to finish a few beers in each flight. Belgian-styles lacked Belgian characteristics (a bronze medal isn't a bragging point...basically means you came in last), which we found odd since this was a Belgian-focused brewery. Octoberfest (their Rosefest) was very thin and lacked body and flavor and the Flemish Pumpkin Sour was a pour-out. The saison was excellent however and the pure IPA (not the one with added grapefruit and orange flavor) was good too. The Berliner Weisse was also good, although there was nothing we wanted to get a pint of. The turn off 29 is pretty tight too and signage is sparse (you will feel like you are going the wrong way....until you get there). We prefer Death Ridge Brewery in terms of beer selection and ambiance. read more

I'm not a beer reviewer, someone will be along in a day or so to do that. I'm a business reviewer and I've got to say, Barking Rose is the kind of place that I like to do business. My wife and I spent an hour or two tonight chatting with Matt, the owner and master brewer. Matt knows beer. I've never met anyone that knows more about the various beer styles. Obscure beers from the Czech Republic? Matt knows. Small brewery in Pennsylvania? Yep, Matt knows. Belgian beers? Matt REALLY knows. Tonight was the first night of the soft opening and there were only 3 beers on tap but I was still impressed with Barking Rose. I plan more visits in the future, and can't wait for the selection to increase to a dozen or so as Matt plans. read more

Because I have celiac disease, I only took one sip of beer. It was Farmers something. That one sip was amazing enough that i bought a growler to take home to my daughter and her husband. It was a big hit with them, just as it was for my husband. We were there for an after-funeral gathering. The staff were kind, efficient, and went out of their way to provide great service to a crowd in need of a pint or two. If you can drink beer, I highly recommend this joint! read more

I changed my review as nothing has really changed since I went opening weekend. They are still making beers with Belgian yeast so all the beers tasted the same minus the coffee stout. That stout I give them 3.5 stars and not just 3. I was none to pleased to see that a gratuity of 20% was automatically added to our tab. Great brewery. Nice beers and nice people. I don't know which I like best, the nice "big boy" beers with a higher ABV or the laid back nature of the place. I typically go for the Alastair (Brune at 8.4%) or the Kesenator (Dopplebock at 8.6%). My wife likes the Use your melon (saison at 4.2%). They don't have food but they do occasionally have a food truck. They are open til 9pm several days a week which is simply awesome. Last trip we say a deer, squirrel, and some turkeys walk across the property. Pretty cool. Love the setup inside to help with reducing the spread of COVID-19. Tables are well spaced. Lot's of room and tables outside as well. Employees always wear masks which is cool. Bathrooms are clean and you can open the door with your foot on the way out so ya don't have to touch anything. Barking Rose is the latest addition to the Warrenton area, but they aren't new to brewing. Previously they operated out of lorton under the label Forge Brew Works. The have a barn where all the beer making is on display on the back wall. They had ten beers available and room for a bunch more. My wife and I got two flights of four each. I liked brown ale, saison, wit and Abby the most on my visit. The IPA had a West coast taste and we both felt the stouts were too burnt for our liking. I read an article about this place and decided to check it out on a Saturday. We all got flights and found a picnic table outside. Beers were good. Ended up getting a growler. My issues were more atmosphere... almost stepped in dog crap that was right outside the door to the lawn, tons of woods mosquitoes so we had to go inside and once inside, the music was so low we felt like we had to be quiet so as not to bother others. No real food options on a Saturday at one, which was disappointing. I'll give them another try but check for food trucks before we head there. read more

Barking Rose is a gem of a Virginia farm brewery, conveniently located on the US-29 corridor. Master brewer, Matt Rose, also works the weekend taps and takes great pride in his brews and farm (which has at least four chainsaws, a tractor, and a water tower). Beers tend toward time consuming and exquisitely crafted Belgian styles, and rotate to match the seasons. On or most recent visit (November 2021), a nine-month Bourbon barrel aged stout was the highlight of the taps, with a flavor more complex than either the malt or oak could manage alone. Their award-winning "Conviction" Belgian Blonde is the best of its brethren in the Mid-Atlantic, better even than Steinhardt's Orange Punch. A playful and unexpected Flemish pumpkin (yes, that's right, a pumpkin sour) named "Out of my Gourd" was an unexpected treat, with funk up front and earthy goodness after. And the Imperial Wit is strong and spicy, yet smooth. Our biggest surprise at Barking Rose is the lack of a crowd. This brewery is a destination! There should be a line all the way from Warrenton, but hey people, if you don't want it, I'll happily go drink it myself. But I really shouldn't have to... so see you there soon! read more
