While driving through Warrenton, VA, I stopped by the downtown area which is really quaint and wholesome. I stopped by Altered Suds. The sign may be hard to see but once you walk down the stairs, you will find a lot of space to have a drink or play shuffle board. Some of the beers were a little fruity for me but the Zozobras Mexican lager was amazing. I didn't eat, but I know they have a good menu. The staff is very friendly. Recommend. read more

Altered Suds just opened this past week in Old Town Warrenton. They are located one floor beneath Molly's Irish Pub. There is a door off of Main Street that leads down into the brewery. There is also a side entrance on South 2nd Street - which currently does not have a brewery sign on it. My friend Andrew and I visited today early afternoon to sample their ales. We tasted all the brews in two separate flights: First Flight: Stuck in Half Life Kolsch (4.8% ABV) (3.25 stars on Untappd) The Legless Scouser ESB (6.2% ABV) (3 stars on Untappd) Sugar Magnolia Milk Stout (5.8% ABV) (4 stars on Untappd) Second Flight: Mr. Balloonhead Pale Ale (6.2% ABV) (5 stars on Untappd) Assemblage Point IPA (7.5% ABV) (4.25 stars on Untappd) Late to the Party Hazy IPA (7.2% ABV) (4.5 stars on Untappd) Honkey Red Red Ale (5.7% ABV) (5 stars on Untappd) As we began tasting - we met the Brew Master - Jay Bergantim - and had a lengthy and enjoyable conversation with him about his approach, philosophy to beer making, etc. In our opinion as craft beer geeks - as we were about to discover, he is very talented. I'm not typically a fan of Kolsch or ESB - but these were both interesting beers and well executed. The Milk Stout was also good. Things got really interesting when we got into the second flight - as we both really appreciate well designed and executed Pale Ales and IPAs. Everything in the second flight was just outstanding. I was blown away by how good the Mr. Balloonhead Pale Ale was, as well as the Honkey Red Red Ale. There is a ton of table seating inside, as well as some spaces at the bar. You can order food from a menu from Molly's Irish Pub, and the brewery will deliver the food to your table. Very comfy atmosphere. Love this new addition to the Northern Virginia craft brewing wars! Altered Suds is located in the space below Molly's Irish pub. In downtown Warrenton. It's an interesting spot with an old time tavern feel. They keep around 10-12 beers on tap with the majority being German styles or hazy IPAs. On this last visit I was hoping to find something sour but they were out, bummer. I've previously enjoyed their strawberry marshmallow sour, very tasty. I settled on one of the IPAs and then tried the English IPA. I also sampled the saison. And while I wasn't blown away by anything I had, I also can't say that anything was a miss. I'll continue to stop by in hopes of coming across some of their more interesting creations. read more

All I can say is this place is incredible! The beer is excellent. The atmosphere is very cool. Friendly staff... You can't ask for more. I tried two of the IPA. Both were filled with hops and delicious. These guys really know how to brew. My wife had the scotch ale, which had a prefect balance of malt. This is some real good beer. I am actually surprised (and frankly pleased) to see that these guys have not become bigger. You walk away saying wow... that was really good. I am trying to do a new brewery in the DC area every week. I just happened to be going through on the way back from Shenandoah and found Altered Suds on my GPS. I never knew this place existed and have never heard of it before. Altered Suds is in the basement under an Irish pub. You would not know it is there unless you were looking. Two doors - one on the side street and the other is on the main street and down the stairs. My highest recommendation - if you are in the area and into good craft beer and a great small brewery that you will remember as a favorite, you must check this out. read more

Altered Suds is a beer bar that exists in Warrenton underneath a hotel. If you are looking for it, you may just walk on buy because it sign is mixed in amongst several others. Open the door and proceed down a couple of flight of stairs and you will be present with the bar and a large seating area. The bar itself is rather small but centrally located. First up, I'm not the beer hound in the family I leave that up to my husband but I did find Stuck in Half Life - Kolsch Style Beer - tasty enough to have a few with our lunch. Limited food menu and the food comes from Molly's upstairs, but the pickles were super tasty and we split a Ruben and Fish and Chips. I held a Welcome Party for out of town wedding guests at Altered Suds and we could not have had a better experience. With its beautiful natural wood bar, plenty of tables and the game room, it had the perfect ambience. Kevin and Nick were friendly and efficient behind the bar as well as keeping the flow of food and drinks going throughout the crowd.
