I stopped here after spontaneously adopting a 3 month old kitten after my sudden unexpected loss of buddy so I needed some good food dry and wet for a kitten and her new forever home bed. I have been to Bark n Scratch Outpost many times pre-covid I have always loved their local/sustainable approach and the customer service/prices are always top notch. During the lockdown, my pup stopped eating. She wasn't acting any differently and I understood the drastic change in schedule was probably upsetting her. However a few months into it and she still isn't eating... I decided to switch up her food. I did some research online before calling the store to be sure I knew what I was looking for. The gentleman on the phone was very patient with me and walked me through the different options and what was best based on her weight/age/etc. Once I decided on a brand, I was able to pay over the phone and pickup curbside. Bark 'n' Scratch offers an amazing array of high quality pet supplies, including an expansive selection of organic and grain free cat/dog food. I'm a big fan of their cat litter products. They have an all natural herbal cat attract clumping litter that (paired with the covered litter box with charcoal filter that I purchased here) keeps my cats going where they ought to and furthermore keeps my house cat odor free. It's a total game changer. They also have an amazing variety of grain free treats. Oh! And, bully sticks for the pups. I never knew this store existed but I'm so glad I do now! I found out about it because they are the closest store to me that carries raw cat food, specifically a brand I heard about in a Jackson Galaxy video. (Small batch cat food FYI) The employees were EXTREMELY helpful, answered all my questions, showed me many different products for my cat with a sensitive tummy and hairball issues. We ended up buying plenty of food and some treats (they have whole freeze dried minnows for cats, which is awesome because it's definitely something they would catch in the wild!) Is it a bit pricier than the supermarket or online? Sure but not by much and you get personalized help from people who care about animals and attend seminars about them, etc. They even gave me some awesome print outs to take home with some helpful info! 10/10 recommend coming here for all your cat and dog needs. We had been concerned when our original pet food store, McPets, closed about where we would find more Wolf King kibble for our beloved girls... Admittedly, there are a few choices in Milwaukee if you're looking for natural pet food and treats, but having called quite a few of them we decided the professionalism and courtesy these guys extended us over the phone warranted further investigation. Of course, we forgot their hours were different from McPets' on our first visit, so showed up at 6:40 on a Friday night.... Luckily, it wasn't a wasted trip: when I went to the door, the owners were working behind the counter, saw me, and opened the door. They even allowed us to buy that kibble we'd been looking for--AFTER hours! Plus, they were both extremely friendly and knowledgeable, sharing their experience with their Bichons health story success after recognizing food allergies and switching to a raw diet. These guys also have a frequent buyers club, as well as sponsoring classes for further education on various of their products, so I now have a new favorite spot to keep my Huskies healthy and happy. read more

Solid place to get pet supplies. We go for our buddy boy Ralph. He loves coming in the place. Everyone is helpful and attentive. They carry a lot, and I mean a lot of various pet supplies. If they don't have it they'll get it for you. Prices are also reasonable. They also have products you can't find anywhere else which makes them unique. My only gripe would be the return policy. When you return something you get store credit not a refund. I get it but at the same time no, give me my money back. Make sure you know what your getting and want it. Like any other specialty shop that sells quality products, you may pay a little more for your purchase. The satisfaction of knowing you're getting something healthier than what you'd buy in the pet food department at Wal-Mart justifies that. For example; my cat has a hereditary urinary tract condition. The vet strongly suggests he maintain a very specialized diet to control "flare ups" of his illness. He's 8 years old now and has had no recurrences in 4 years. This place is the 'Outpost Natural Foods' of dog food stores. A great local pet store. The owner is generally behind the counter and is extremely helpful if you have any questions. They carry lots of natural products and accessories/accoutrements for dogs and cats. Many of the toys are unique and can't be found elsewhere. The best part of this store are the bins of bulk doggie biscuits. My dog goes crazy for these and a good sized bag costs less than $3. They also have a good selection of training treats and raw food for dogs. The food is a little pricey compared to the chains, but they know their stuff and are very knowledgeable about every brand they carry. Personally, I always go for the Fromms Family brand, which is all natural and, best of all, made locally. The hours are consistent, but they aren't open long hours. However, once I showed up early in the morning when they were closed. The owner saw me try the door and let me in to buy some much needed dog food. That action alone justifies spending a tad more on food! read more

I was worried that my big orange boy was showing symptoms of feline diabetes, so I stopped in to see if they had any food that helps control this. I explained what I was looking for and was recommended two brands of food. I ended up going with the one that was considered the best brand for managing diabetes. I was impressed with the selection and the knowledge of the staff. The store is well-organized and everyone was friendly. They have a very generous return policy, too. I love this store! Everyone seems very knowledgeable and friendly. I came in confused about what type of food would be right for my cat who has food allergies (I know right?) They not only explained what was in the different foods, they explained why some ingredients are healthier and more beneficial to my cat specifically. They offer many options like raw and wet foods in various "flavors" and always have helpful and logical answers to my (many) questions. My cat is nutso about the food they helped me choose. It is clear when you visit that the staff cares about your pet and their nutrition as well as the longevity and quality of their life. I'd recommend B&Scratch to anyone! The prices are fair compared to other stores I've been to and you definitely get more than what you pay for. The staff was friendly, helpful and really knew their stuff. After my first visit, I was hooked. My dog's behavior changed, and I finally saw her happy as her allergies got better. This store has changed both of our lives for the better. I've watched this store evolve from a hole in the wall to over doubling this size. I feel good spending money in this store, it's a local business, and many of its products are also from Wisconsin businesses. This store's foods are all so moderately priced, many foods are the same price or even cheaper and of a much higher quality than what you'll find in the grocery stores. I've found more than just food here, they have all sorts of accessories that I haven't seen elsewhere. The people who work here really care about what they do. Felt compelled to share my great customer service experience. I started going here after City Pet closed and it's the closest place to my house to buy dog food. The staff is always very friendly and very helpful. Today was exceptional. I wanted to switch dog food because my 2 large dogs go through bags of food very quickly! I went with the intention to just walk around and compare prices but one of the employees offered his help. After sharing some great advice for feeding and caring for my pups, he then carried the 40 lb. bag of dog food to the front counter and then to my car! I didn't even have to ask. You just don't get service like that these days. And to top it off, the price was very fair. Just $36 for a 40 lb bag! They have the most friendly staff, awesome natural treats and great (likr impressively great) prices! One staff member in particular went out of her way to answer all of our questions and educate us on calming sprays, essential oils and treats for our car-anxious Weimaraner. She was so personable and very helpful... So much so that we ended up making an additional purchase! Our pupper is going to be so excited when we get home and show him his new goodies! Because your pet is worth it. We buy Fromm's for one of our dogs and American Natural Premium for the other. We've shopped around and even priced them online. I've never found the exact same brands for less. Overall their selection is amazing. From food to treats, to chews, to toys. All shapes and sizes, but only the highest quality. You can tell that great care goes into selecting what they stock. Often times you won't see the same items anywhere else. We have been buying Himalayan Yak cheese (not a gross as you think) chews for our GSD here. I have only them them online, and for the same price. These are about the hardest "dog bones" you will find. My dog loves to chew and has the bite strength of a salt-water croc. You can also get grain-free treats in bulk as well as all of your pet medicinal needs. The help here is knowledgeable and friendly; true animal lovers!
