My husband and I took our first trip to Bark 'n' Scratch this morning, and I am pretty sure I found my happy place! They have the most friendly staff, awesome natural treats and great (likr impressively great) prices! One staff member in particular went out of her way to answer all of our questions and educate us on calming sprays, essential oils and treats for our car-anxious Weimaraner. She was so personable and very helpful... So much so that we ended up making an additional purchase! Our pupper is going to be so excited when we get home and show him his new goodies! Because your pet is worth it. We buy Fromm's for one of our dogs and American Natural Premium for the other. We've shopped around and even priced them online. I've never found the exact same brands for less. Overall their selection is amazing. From food to treats, to chews, to toys. All shapes and sizes, but only the highest quality. You can tell that great care goes into selecting what they stock. Often times you won't see the same items anywhere else. We have been buying Himalayan Yak cheese (not a gross as you think) chews for our GSD here. I have only them them online, and for the same price. These are about the hardest "dog bones" you will find. My dog loves to chew and has the bite strength of a salt-water croc. You can also get grain-free treats in bulk as well as all of your pet medicinal needs. The help here is knowledgeable and friendly; true animal lovers! Usually I have have found people in the natural foods business to be friendly and welcoming - the people who work here were anything but, over multiple times that I was a customer this past year. No one greeted me or asked if I needed help, and they were generally cold and unfriendly when I was checking out at the register. Their stock was adequate for what I needed, but the (lack of) customer service was a big turnoff. read more

Extremely knowledgeable and not out to upsell you - just to make sure you're equipped with the information to take the best care of your pet as possible. We own two dogs and visit this place monthly. If they don't have it they can order it for you. I gave them four stars instead of five because their return policy is pretty strange but I can forgive them for this because their friendly service and willingness to find information for you is stellar ( not to mention they are a small local business). We just stopped by this place today. The gentleman who owned this place with his wife was very knowledgeable. We asked about our dog we recently got from the Humane Society . We didn't even have to buy anything and he was willing to give us information on food and behavior training. My husband and I were very impressed with the amount of information. I've been here a couple of times and they have a great selection and the staff are very helpful and friendly. They helped me find some stuff to help my dogs paws as well as check out the dog backpacks which I hope to get soon. They also have great seminars, two of which I've attended. Both were basically about keeping your dog busy and not bored, which is perfect to help with my super energetic Border Collie. They were very interesting and helpful! read more

This store sells specialty pet products, which---by virtue of being "specialty" products---are NOT cheap. Still, I feel their prices are reasonable/competitive with other specialty sellers. The staff is very patient, knowledgeable, and helpful. It's not fair, but to be honest, I'm not my best self when I come in here---frustrated and upset by chronic pet allergy issues---but the staff has always been sympathetic and understanding. The only reason I withheld a star is because I fear a small, small portion of the products they offer are questionable--buyer beware, read labels, ask Qs, etc. I'm specifically thinking of a tiny expensive bottle of cat fur "cleanser" that I bought, which--upon further investigation--seemed to be mostly water. Live and learn, I guess. read more

I like that Yelp allows you the 'A-OK' at 3 stars, because the ole Bark & Scratch is that. Here are the pros and they are good ones... they are conveniently located and have good hours, they have a large selection of natural pet food lines and related items and know their stock, they are independently owned, and also offer online ordering for some of their products. The things they could improve on a bit are their return policy - make sure you pay attention to it because they can be militant - and the air by some staff of judgement. We jokingly refer to it as the 'Bark & Judge Outpost' - it doesn't bother us because we find it hilarious. As pet owners our whole lives who live a natural lifestyle, you don't have talk down to us or scold us for imagined transgressions against our furry friends. But again, it's pretty hilarious. My advice is to lighten up and meet your customers where they are - and to ease up on the return policy - trust me, the one or two jerks who this policy was written for don't represent the vast majority of honest folks that will frequent your store. read more

The only reason I'm not giving this excellent business 5 stars is because it is not accessible to disabled customers. The parking lot is small and street parking is difficult. Having to climb steps to enter the store and having no shopping carts to walk the uneven floor of this store make shopping here uncomfortable and somewhat dangerous to those who have problems walking. This is a wonderful store with very knowledgeable employees. I wish I could shop there and I will miss the quality and the service they provide. read more

I have only been here twice but the times I did, I was extremely satisfied. They are so knowledgeable and genuinely care about animals. They carry high quality products and have a large variety to pick from. I am currently a foster parent of a dog who's in the final stages of lymphoma. I brought him in to Bark 'n' Scratch today. The gentleman behind the front desk went above and beyond to steer me in the right direction for my big guy. He showed me high protein food options and gave me advice on beneficial food additives. His passion and sympathy for my sick buddy was absolutely heart warming. The people here are really helpful. I made my first trip in there a couple of weeks ago to buy some food and I was asked if I needed help and the person was very respectful of my shy dog in training. I was given lots of information about the food that they carry and given samples and reading materials as well. They carry both Fromms and Sojos at some of the cheapest prices I've found and are willing to order specific flavors if they do not currently have them in stock. This will be my new go to place for dog food. read more

I am not sure why some think the prices are higher. I found that the prices are lower on most items. Also they carry the raw or smoked bones...my babies love them and my 11yr old golden has beautiful white teeth with no brushing..yippee. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The free seminars are really worth checking out too. They have the best selection and their products are always fresh.This is the best pet store I have been to. Not sure how fair it is to give a small business a 4 instead of 5 because of somewhat higher prices that Big Box. BarknScratch are superb in knowlege and service...they even delivered when I couldn'tdirve after surgery. They can't be expected to compete on price...but you get what you pay for: extra service, knowlege, wider selection, commitment to their community...the money from local businesses stay here, not to corporations out of state. read more

So... I'm glad everyone else seems to love it. I don't. After adopting our first pet, a lab, we went in to Outpost because the Earthborn website showed B&S as a retailer. We shopped there a couple times. My wife went in one day and asked someone for help with a dog toy that would help with Luca (the lab) chewing while we were away. She explained that he was a lab and aggressive with chewing. The associate quickly recommended the Kong for medium dogs and went on his way. My wife bought the Kong and upon getting home read the informational insert. It clearly stated that Labs needed the heavy duty one because of their chewing (there's a chart). Because we have 3 kids and a dog, and our life doesn't revolve around returning items to the store, I returned the item AFTER the 10 days. I was met with the policy of how you CAN'T return dog toys ever. And you're past the 10 days. "So you did 2 things wrong." This is verbatim... The item was mint condition. She said that my wife should have read the info before buying. I explained that she was helped by an associate. That doesn't matter. I was pretty upset. I went to ask another associate who the manager or owner was and they told me that it was the person that they'd just seen me speaking with. I was dumbfounded. I'd left the Kong at the registers and went back up to ask for the toy back and attempted to leave. I was clearly upset. Honestly, I probably would've returned at some point in the future after I'd gotten over the experience... But no... just then the OWNER OF THE BUSINESS engaged me from across the store in a confrontation. My hand was on the door when she addressed me from behind the register. "I tried to help, I don't know what's wrong with you." I attempted to stay calm, I was kind of in disbelief. I attempted to state that I didn't want to be told as a customer that I was wrong--but I couldn't get the words out. She was talking over me already. So I left. I would rather feed my dog a bag of needles than support a small business that doesn't respect all of its customers. And I found my Earthborn at Pet Warehouse on S. 27th. In her defense, I do run a large business that does awesome (mainly because of our customer focus) but I don't look like it. In fact that day, I needed a shave and I had on flip-flops and a ripped tee. So it was probably okay to treat me that way. I'm sure she thinks that she had a customer who had the audacity to bring back a dog toy today and I showed him. What she did was lose about $100 a month in revenue. I have fired a manager for a similar incident. But she owns the place. read more

When my fat, grain-sensitive cat encouraged me to learn about proper cat nutrition, I was very pleased to find two pet stores in town that carried all of the good brands, including commercial raw foods. Though I initially shopped mainly at the other one, the owner's friendliness drew me back in here. Though they are perhaps more dog than cat-centric, I can find all of the healthy brands of food I could ever want to buy. Everyone is always friendly and helpful and will go out of their way to assist you. And if you happen to wander in their unlocked door before they're even open, they'll still let you shop...not that I ever did that! Not only that, but they offered to open up for me on one occasion when I was desperately looking for a particular food. You really couldn't ask for anything more from a pet food store. As for prices, I'm long over the sticker shock of good quality pet food. I love going in there and not seeing Science Diet or Iams. You know that you could walk in blindfolded and come out with good food. read more

This store was fine and I made purchases here regularly with out a problem. This past week I purchased a freeze dried treat from a company that I have relied on for years. When I opened the treats when I got home the package was different from the the other treats. The sizes where all random, some big some small and I would have to cut them for my small dog. I would have done this but some of the treats appeared to have some hairlike things sticking out of them. I tried to return this package and was prepared to purchase the same brand but the treats I was used to. The "return department" employee examined the treats and said they looked fine to him and the woman with him said she would give them to her dog and they couldn't return them until they received approval from the manufacturer. I put the package that I was going to buy beck on the rack and I told them I would never shop here again. The woman told me I was rude. I have made many purchases here but as a warning, if something seems not right with your purchase, be prepared. read more

I have been a loyal customer to Bark n' Scratch for a while. I have ALWAYS received service with a smile. And have had more than one employee approach me to help. I recently visited the store on 10/31/2015 with a coupon sent to me by Honest Kitchen. I was not allowed to use it. The owner of the store, Carrie was so rude to me I almost left without my purchase. She asked my name and looked up my previous purchases. She stated I was only allowed to use ONE coupon every three months...so because I used one 2 months ago, also sent to me by Honest Kitchen she wouldn't allow this one. She also stated she has had to fire employees for not following this "guideline" of hers. The purchase I was making totaled $54. I came in the store with another person who also was sent the coupon. Carrie was going to not allow her to use HER coupon because we "were together" and charged her full price until I pointed out her total was too high. I used to work in the retail business. I know how coupons work. I also know the store is reimbursed by the company for coupons. I do not consider using ONE coupon per visit 2 months apart anything to bat an eyelash at especially to keep a loyal customer. I also did not need the food I was purchasing yet, but the coupon expired THAT day. I can honestly say, it was about the treatment I received from Carrie that I will never be back to that store. I would rather pay actual shipping and handling to Honest Kitchen, than be treated like a criminal or coupon "scammer" trying to make my ...what would have been had Carrie allowed it...$46 purchase. I have never been treated as rudely. read more
