We stopped here, because it's on my list to go to, because I like BBQ, food carts, and they have good ratings! Hubby ordered the Full Rack of Pork Ribs and Half a Pound of Brisket. And also some sides, potato salad, baked beans, and cole slaw. I liked the Brisket, very tender, but not so much of the ribs, nor the sauce. I thought, it was too dry! I like my ribs, falling off the from the bone. This was not one of those. The cole slaw, very unusual, I didn't like the fat thick part of the cabbage, and I got lots of them! The beans were nice & tasty. I didn't care for the sliced pickles, they were spicy, and gave them to hubby. I was tempted to order the chocolate banana pudding, but maybe the next time, if we buy from them again. His order was taken promptly. The wait was about 10 minutes. Bbq isn't typically my jam but they've started doing wraps and sandwiches on Wednesdays and they've become my go-to lunch spot! The cornbread croutons crumble slightly and give the wrap a super yummy texture, and the sweetness from the cornbread adds a sweet & salty element that I'm loving. The chicken is slightly smokey but not over powering and the lettuce is always fresh (which isn't always the case with wraps from other places). The owner is super passionate about what he does and uses quality ingredients from local businesses and I love that. The portion is huge. 10/10 very satisfying. read more

Found in the back of a food truck lot at @the heist pdx is bark city barbecue serving up some awesome barbecue. I want to say Portland is an awesome food truck city. The aroma of the smoke as you come walking around the back wafting your way out of the two offset smokers that are very tightly fit with barely any space between fire boxes. I ordered today the Pitmaster's Nap platter that has a little of all the main meats and on top of that I got come extras. The brisket was wonderfully fatty and moist. With it the coffee sauce was wonderful adding a little bitterness and sweetness. The jalapeño cheddar sausage just had this wonderful snap when I bit into it. I do like having it sliced sometimes but nothing beats grabbing a whole sausage and chomping down to feel that snap. The turkey was definitely my favorite regular menu item. So moist and paired with the white sauce. The beef rib laid on a bed of buttery potatoes was so rich and the chimi sauce added the pop of herbiness I needed. It made me think I was eating my veggies in all this protein lol. I scarfed that down so fast I got some of the sauce on my shirt. (Spent some time in the restroom cleaning it off). Better yet, the maple bourbon garlic glazed double smoked pork belly burnt ends!!!!! It's a mouth full and a tasteful. The soft pieces of garlic had none of the pungent flavors just leaving the sweet nutty profiles on top of the sweet maple. It's such a great sauce that I licked the parchment paper clean. Those pork belly burnt ends I could eat all day. The different flavors I get that deviate from the "traditional" keeps it interesting and I loved every bite of the meal. :) read more

Bark City BBQ is one of the food carts associated the The Heist. My Son and I were here last Sunday. I ordered a toasted Brisket Sandwich (with melted cheese and caramelized onions), while David chose the ribs. He gobbled his portions down quickly and then got up to find dessert at another pod. I found my sandwich to be very good overall, albeit a little fatty on the meat. We dined in the indoor Heist common room over our favorite adult beverage. On the cloudy and sometimes rainy (what else would I expect?) day, enjoying my sandwich and a Red Zeppelin beer at a window table was a great combination. read more

(If you're someone who hates eating a messy sandwich, make sure you grab a knife and fork!) I definitely plan on going back to try the brisket. The mac n cheese side was tasty. The food and service were great. The Smoked Caesar Wrap comes in two options, brisket and chicken. I got the chicken and it was darn good, all that was missing was some tots or fries but it was darn good. The Jalapeño Mac was alright, it's good on its own and comes off heavy as a side. Decent bark on the brisket, but overcooked to the point its texture was unappetizingly mushy. Seasoning was mild for Texas bbq - light pepper flavor. One of the only briskets I haven't finished. Ribs were solid. Cooked to fall off the bone, which is great for ribs. Lightish on seasoning (even more than the brisket), but good meaty, smoke flavor. Disappointing upcharge for everything ($3 for white bread? I've never seen that before.). It's also a food truck so expect minimal service and ambiance. Decent effort - but until they work out the kinks, it's an "if I'm in the area" kind of place vs destination bbq. Will return periodically to see if it improves. read more

Fortunately, there are other great options at Heist. My go to is the Mexican cart. Never made note of its name , but it's the black cart on the east side a little more than half way back. The service is friendly, helpful, all of that. But the food? Outstanding. Hands down, the best pulled pork I've ever had. We also had the ribs and the house made jalapeño sausage. The bark on the ribs was perfection, meat falling off the bone. As sides we had the cheesy grits and the bbq beans. Such a delicious combo. That was more than enough food for the 2 of us on the 3 meat tray. We took leftovers home. Oh and the house made pickles were also delicious! We went back and bought some of their turkey to take home for dinner with our kids for later. Texas bbq is one of my earliest food memories. I spent nearly 25 years of my adult life in the Austin area eating bbq there. Franklin, Snow's, all the Muellers, Kreuz's, Smitty's, Interstellar, etc etc. All this is to say that I have a platonic ideal of what central Texas bbq should be, and so this review will be focused on Bark City's Texas bbq offerings I ordered the two-meat plate with brisket and sausage. The brisket is from the flat (aka lean brisket) and was very tender, but not falling apart. I would have liked more pepper and thicker slices given how tender it was. I also think the fat cap could have been trimmed a bit more so that it renders to almost nothing. I'm not sure if there was an option for fatty brisket, but it wasn't offered to me. The jalapeno sausage I was more mixed about. It was juicy and the casing had a good snap, but I didn't like the strong cumin flavor. It reminded me of chili or fast food tacos, which I think is an injustice to the sausage. I also tried the ribs. The flavor and texture were both good. I think fall off the bone ribs are overcooked ribs, but these still had a good tug. Lastly, I enjoyed my mac and cheese and potato salad very much. The mustard-based potato salad in particular is spot on. My only complaint here is the bread. It's too fancy. The bread served with bbq should be the cheapest, whitest bread whose only purpose is to mop up the last bits from your meal. It can also be used to make a sandwich, but it should melt the second it hits your mouth. If Bark City were in Austin, it'd be what I'd consider good "everyday" bbq--that is, it's good, but not a place I'd wait in a long line for. Texpats will understand when I say it's about as good as Rudy's back in the day. But Bark City isn't in Texas nor does it claim to be just central Texas bbq. For that, I'll give it five stars. I'll be back to try some of the other styles on the menu. read more

This food cart has AMAZING bbq. I grew up in the Midwest, and don't eat barbeque as often as I used to. Wow, their ribs were unbelievable! Huge, tons of meat, and seasoned super well. The meat fell off the bone! Their bbq sauce is a fantastic complement to the flavors. Vinegar based, just FYI, for those who are super particular about the flavoring style of bbq. Their brisket was unreal too. Great smoke ring on the meat and it melted in your mouth! This is my new favorite place to get bbq in the whole city for sure! Holy smokes. ;-D read more

I suck at reviews so bare with me. The owner is super nice. I usually go for the s.c. pulled pork sandwich, but they changed up the turkey sandwich and its amazing so i think that my new go to. You can't go wrong with the sausage links either. Dont forget to order some beans. Ive been going to this place since he was on sandy and also johns market place. Way over priced. I looked them up online before going and expected it to be 18.00. I got the " 1/2 pound" of brisket and they gave me two slices of mushy brisket with two bbq cups for $19.00.... I weigh my food at home, and it did NOT look like 8oz at all, not even close. He told me their "side" was some jalapeño/onion mixture. I don't like either of those things. Come on, at least throw a roll in there with a pat of real butter, something! Felt totally taken advantage of. Felt lied to (rather they did or not)... Horrible deal. Very disappointing.
