Had been a long time customer if this business. Verlie knows dig breeds and does an excellent job grooming them. However, the lady time I took my 3 dogs to her, she decided to charge me more for each dog because they required more care (they are geriatric dogs, but she knew this as she had been grooming them for years). I felt this was WRONG. She should have told me upfront before she started grooming them instead of after. Have not been back since nor have a recommended her services. read more

I love Verlie! She is my go-to person for professional dog grooming when I want to splurge on my year-round shedder. I used to pass by her location (right on 130th) every day on my way to work and decided to give her a call one day to ask her if she takes large dogs (I have a 70-lb Bernese Mountain Dog mix). The first time I took Rudy there we had a meet-and-greet and I filled out some forms to give her a little bit of history about him since he's an adult rescue. She calmly put him in a crate (the shelter couldn't even get him into one!) while she finished up with the other dog she had there. I came back to get him about an hour later (she texted me pictures of him in the bath) and for only $50 he got a shampoo, blow-dry, de-shedding, nail trim, gland expression, ears, teeth, and even a cool bandanna! That's a phenomenal price for his size. When my boyfriend brought his Basset to her for a simple nail trim (her quicks were extremely long so trims were always very stressful for everyone involved) Verlie remained calm and careful the entire time, even giving him some advice on how to reduce the length of the quicks by getting her nails trimmed every four weeks. Her hours are flexible and she is very understanding about Rudy's issues with other dogs/cats so I usually book ahead with her to make sure he doesn't end up there at the same time as a cat or other anxious dogs. She's been doing this for nearly 30 years and it shows! read more

(I defy you to find a better price--literally half the price of what I have been quoted by other groomers.) Our little rescued rat terrier mix hates having her nails cut! She makes these screaming noises and tries to bite groomers. It's stressful for everyone involved. Well, not at this place. The lady here is so soothing and calm. Our dog puts up very little fuss and seems really relaxed. I'm super impressed! It's in a basement of an older home and it's not fancy. Still, I would highly recommend this place to anyone with a dog that gets stressed out by nail trims or is skiddish with body handling. We just moved to West Seattle and now I'm trying to find a new groomer. :( read more

I called Bark & Meow to get information on cat grooming services and pricing. As far as I can tell this is a one woman business, and the woman I spoke to was very short with me and exasperated that I called for information. She sounded busy so I asked if she had a website, thinking she would prefer me to look there if calling in was inconvenient. She cut me off, sharply saying "I'm going to be honest. I'm way too busy. I do NOT need a website. That's the last thing I need." Ok... so I asked for her to give me info over the phone. She refused, said she was too busy, she does dogs and that is "a stressful environment for cats" and told me to go to someplace in Edmonds instead. I told her that was too far but thanks anyway. She recommended another place in Seattle but before I could acknowledge what it was called, she hung up on me. Why call it Bark and Meow if it sounds like you only take dogs? She didn't bother to ask how my cat is with dogs. She didn't care to know more information. Sounds like she's got a good client base, but she was extremely rude on the phone, and seemed rushed and disorganized. I wouldn't put my pet in her hands, much less pay for a service here. It is more important to me that my beloved little Scottie is treated well than it is that he get a good haircut, but with Verlie he gets both! She lets him play a bit when he gets out of the bath and rubs him up with a towel, which he loves. He is so excited when he gets to her house that he tries to jump out of the car as soon as the door is open and runs to Verlie with his tail wagging. His haircuts are excellent, which is not easy with a Scottie, whose haircut is quite complicated. He had a dandruff problem and Verlie tried different shampoos to fix the problem. She always gives me a report on what she did and what she noticed. He got into foxtails one time and I took him straight to Verlie and she removed them all and even noticed that some of them had worked their way into his car riding seat belt so she took pliers to get them out. He was very skittish about his nails because he had had a bad experience prior and Verlie worked with him until he now sits quietly and lets her trim them which is amazing! He also boards there occasionally because Verlie is the only person I trust to look after my boy! I've had lots of experience with groomers over the years and all I can say is "thank goodness for Verlie!" I think for Verlie this isn't just a job, she's a dog person.... read more

I do not know what we would do without Verli. We love her. She has groomed and cut the nails of our incorrigible airedale rescue--he's still naughty at almost 7. She watched our other sickly little schnauzer rescue come back to decent health, as Verli was one of the few people he liked, he actually wanted to go to get groomed. She's awesome with terriers. Our new schnauzer puppy loves her too. If anyone ever says anything less than stellar about this place, without reservation I know something is overly negative with that individual. Wonderful! I have a Persian, and it can be difficult to find good groomers for cats. Verlie did a lovely job with my kitty and took great care of him. I move a lot for work, so I've taken my kitty to a number of groomers across the country. She, by far, is one of the best. Just writing an update.. we've now been having Verlie groom our 2 goldendoodles and our American Eskimo dog for a year and a half. She grooms them about once per month (we try to keep the schedule regular at about every 4 weeks). Verlie continues to be fanstastic, treats our dogs really well, and always asks for special instructions or notes. Our two goldendoodles tend to be pretty active, and the one with the thicker coat tends to get mats. I always tell Verlie just to cut the mats out instead of torturing the dog to try to comb them out, and she understands how I feel about this. I really appreciate that! Our dog walker was commenting on how great our dogs look a while ago and asked for a referral. He now has one of his other customers visiting Verlie too! We're just thrilled with her and we won't bring our dogs to anyone else. The most important thing to me is that she doesn't treat the dogs like "just a job". She genuinely cares about treating them well and getting to know each dog and his/her personality and needs through each visit. It definitely doesn't hurt that they always look fantastic after visiting her. I get lots of compliments from neighbors and friends after grooms. read more

Verlie did the best job ever that our dog Wilma has had in her life. All for reasonable price and an afternoon's worth of boarding. She she made sure that Wilma looks just stunning. She has our business. It was a lot more work grooming Wilma than she thought and we knew that when she quoted the price over the phone, but she was going to stick to it when it came time to settle the bill. Kayu and Ursula have been coming to Verlie for 3+ years and Wow! Are they ever handsome pups! As terrier mix rescues the opportunity for issues is never ending. Whenever we go to Verlie's house, Ursula pulls me (um, she's 13 pounds and never pulls on the leash) all the way down the walk and then she never wants to leave. She's usually a nervous girl, but falls asleep as Verlie grooms her. Kayu is friends to all humans, but is quite vocal with his distrust of other pups. Not at Verlie's! He's quiet and respectful always demonstrating his best manners. We can't imagine going anywhere else. Verlie is the best! read more

I've finally found a great dog groomer. Verlie is the best. Her place is quiet and calm as she only takes a couple of dogs at a time. She has very flexible hours which works great for me since I have an odd schedule. When I go pick Charlie up, he is so calm, which is unusual for him. I just brought my two Lhasa mixes in for the first time. They are four years old and have never been to a groomer. I've been giving them home haircuts and shaves in the year since I adopted them and it showed. I didn't think Verlie would be able to accomplish much with this first visit but I was so happy with the results. She trimmed their faces beautifully. She preserved their hair length where I requested it and was able to make everything come together. Their nails are much more nicely trimmed than when they go to the vets. My husband picked them up and they came home happy and relaxed. He's a new fan too. Verlie was informative, and reassuring. Her prices are much less than what I would have expected and will make it easier for me to come regularly, which I intend to do. My geriatric Golden, at 17+ years of age, is beginning to show his age: he is bony, physically weak, and his eye sight and hearing are almost gone. He trembles when he walks, many times tripping over his own feet. He is a very precious dog and I give him the special care he needs. I'm also notoriously overprotective of him. Last year, I thought he'd gotten too frail for a bath. But without a bath and proper grooming, his hair became mangled, his body grimy and smelly. This caused him skin irritations which lead to scratching. His nails were so long I could hear them clacking when he walked; ears were clogged; eyes had gunk; and bottom...you don't want to know. He was in bad shape...I needed help yet I did not trust that I would ever feel comfortable leaving my dog in anyone's care. But passing by the Bark & Meow saloon day after day, I became curious. Without any real intention, one day I stopped. Verlie greeted my dog at the car and helped him out. I asked her if she can work on him. She did not flinch, or hesitate one bit. She only greeted him and welcomed him into her saloon. Already I was beginning to see how careful and sensitive she was toward his needs. I continued to observe... Long story short: Verlie is amazing! I am so pleased at what a thorough job she does in cleaning and grooming. After Verlie's treatment, my dog looks and feels brand new. But more importantly than meticulously cleaning and grooming my dog, Verlie always uses her thoughtfulness and intuition to ensure he's comfortable throughout the grooming.
